From September 13, 2017: NBC News correspondent Katy Tur talked about her book UNBELIEVABLE: My Front-Row Seat to the Craziest Campaign in American History.ABOUT KATY TUR AND UNBELIEVABLE: My Front-Row Seat to the Craziest Campaign in American HistoryCalled "Disgraceful," "third-rate," and "not nice" by Donald Trump, NBC News Correspondent Katy Tur reported on-and took flak from-the most captivating and volatile presidential candidate in American history. Tur lived out of a suitcase for a year and a half, following Trump around the country, powered by packets of peanut butter and dry shampoo. She visited forty states with the candidate, made over 3,800 live television reports, and tried to endure a gazillion loops of Elton John's "Tiny Dancer" -a Trump rally playlist staple. From day one to day 500, Tur documented Trump's inconsistencies, fact-checked his falsities, and called him out on his lies. In return, Trump repeatedly singled Tur out. He tried to charm her, intimidate her, and shame her. At one point, he got a crowd so riled up against Tur, Secret Service had to walk her to her car.None of it worked. Facts are stubborn. So was Tur. She was part of the first women-led politics team in the history of network news. The Boys on the Bus became the Girls on the Plane. But the circus remained. Through all the long nights, wild scoops, naked chauvinism, dodgy staffers, and fevered debates, no one had a better view than Tur.When Trump became an unexpected presidential success story, Tur became NBC's unexpected darling of political journalism. Ripped from her expat life in London as a foreign correspondent, she lost a lifestyle (and a boyfriend) but joined a family tradition. Tur's parents were the helicopter journalists who filmed the LA riots and OJ Simpson's fleeing White Bronco. They helped invent the live-obsessed news industry that Trump used for his rise.UNBELIEVABLE is Tur's darkly comic, fascinatingly bizarre, and often scary story of what it was like to be on the inside a no-rules world where reporters were spat on, demeaned, and discredited. "During the campaign, whenever anyone asked what it was like to cover Trump my go to answer was 'wild ride,'" she says. "Well, now I can tell you what I really thought. And what really happened when the cameras turned off."Katy Tur is a correspondent for NBC News and an anchor for MSNBC. Tur is the recipient of a 2017 Walter Cronkite Award for Excellence in Journalism. She lives in New York City.

The true story of Theranos is stranger than fiction. From its conception to its downfall, this Silicon Valley startup reveals truths about human nature and questions about its founder. In Bad Blood, John Carreyrou exposes Elizabeth Holmes as a fraud and crafts a narrative about the power of FOMO, the fear of missing out. You don’t have to like nonfiction, business, science, or medicine to enjoy this story. It’s a page-turning tale about human nature, privilege, and justice. We read and loved Bad Blood over summer, and it got us thinking about the appeal of investigative journalism in general. Sally Warhaft and Katy Tur — Photo: Jon Tjhia Katy Tur, sometimes known as ‘Little Katy, third-rate reporter', is an award-winning NBC News correspondent. She covered Donald Trump's campaign from day one and quickly made an enemy of the future president. Tur travelled to 40 states during the campaign and made more than 3,800 live TV reports. Trump didn't appreciate her direct interview style or her scrupulous attention to facts, and took to singling her out at rallies. He repeatedly named her, called her ‘disgraceful' and ‘not nice' and encouraged his supporters to boo her. Tur's book, Unbelievable: My Front-Row Seat to the Craziest Campaign in American History, is about her bizarre, exhausting and sometimes frightening days on the campaign trail. It's also about America's increasingly hostile political landscape and about the established and shifting standards of Tur's own chosen profession. For this episode of The Fifth Estate, this indomitable journalist talks provocations, presidents and facing facts with host Sally Warhaft.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Award-winning TV journalist Jeff Greenfield sits down with NBC's Katy Tur – author of Unbelievable: My Front-Row Seat to the Craziest Campaign in American History – for a discussion on the current political climate, the President, and the future of the press. The conversation was recorded on March 18, 2018 in front of a live audience at New York's 92nd Street Y.
In this episode, NBC news correspondent Katy Tur joins Jim Mustich to talk about her experience on the Trump campaign trail in 2016 — including her frequent role as a target of the future President’s taunts — as chronicled in her recent book Unbelievable: My Front Row Seat to the Craziest Campaign in American History. She tells us about how as a foreign correspondent she “fell face first” into an unlikely job covering what would become one of the most astonishing, exhausting, and consequential events in American political history.
MSNBC anchor Katy Tur talks with Recode's Kara Swisher and SKDK's Hilary Rosen about her new book, "Unbelievable: My Front-Row Seat to the Craziest Campaign in American History." While she was at NBC News, Tur was the first reporter assigned to cover the Trump campaign full-time, and one year since his unlikely electoral victory, she says many in the media who considered him a joke before haven't learned the right lessons from 2016. Tur explains how her parents' pioneering TV journalism gave her the resolve to weather threats during the campaign, and says journalists covering President Trump need to stop being indignant about little things, and focus instead on the big stories that matter. This week, we're back with a very special interview with Katy Tur. As most of you know, she's known for her Phish banter on air, and probably better known as the host of MSNBC Live, which airs every weekday afternoon at 2pm ET. She also occasionally fills in on MTP Daily and other NBC news programs. We had a great conversation with Katy, that ranged from her favorite Phish tunes to a history of a fandom, and to her book, which comes out today, September 12, Unbelievable: My Front-Row Seat to the Craziest Campaign in American History.
