Joel Del Rosario enlisted in the Marine Corps in 2005 because a girl asked him to. She left him with a Dear John letter while he was deployed to Iraq. Then an IED nearly killed him. His mother received an incorrect killed-in-action notification and believed her son was dead for 24 hours. When Joel came to after the blast, shrapnel in his body and a traumatic brain injury that erased most of his memories, he was not relieved. He was angry that he survived. That disgust with his own reaction became the turning point. He chose ownership. Nobody forced him to enlist. That was his decision. And from that moment, he committed to 21 years of service instead of coasting to the exit. Joe De Sena sits down with Joel to talk about growing up in the Dominican Republic, a tough Latina single mother in Providence, the blast that rewired his brain, and the law-enforcement fitness mission he now runs alongside his wife, Rebecca, through Iron Stronghold LLC and MCHN. Things You Will Learn: Why taking ownership of a bad decision matters more than the decision itself. The difference between surviving hardship and choosing to build from it. A simple daily framework for building mental toughness without needing a traumatic event. Tools & Frameworks Covered: Daily Hard Thing Protocol: Pick one hard thing each day and do it. Hard is relative. Consistency compounds. Ownership After the Blast: Stop blaming the circumstance. You made the choice. Now make the next one count. Recovery as Performance: Sleep and recovery are not optional. Emotional regulation, resilience, and physical capacity all degrade without them. If this episode moved you, do not just listen. In this episode, we use the recent SAGES guidelines to tackle one of the most common and controversial questions in general surgery. Through a case-based discussion, our experts review the evidence for intraoperative biliary imaging, discuss strategies for difficult anatomy, and compare IOC with other imaging modalities. Join us as we translate the latest recommendations into practical lessons that can be applied in the operating room.Take Home Points: Routine IOC is supported; however, this remains a conditional recommendation that should be individualized based on anatomy, surgeon experience, and available resources. Use a selective approach to IOC in special populations, including pediatric and pregnant patients, where risks and benefits may differ. Alternative imaging modalities including ICG fluorescence and laparoscopic ultrasound have complementary roles. Routine IOC may help maintain surgeon and team proficiency, and trainees should learn both IOC performance and interpretation Hosts: Jason Bingham, MD – General and Bariatric Surgeon Nicole L. This is a free preview of a paid episode. To hear more, visit www.politix.fmDonald Trump, in his haste and corruption, has wrecked the historic reflecting pool that spans the Washington Monument and Lincoln Memorial. In this episode, Matt and Brian discuss:* How this lazy and corrupt endeavor went to shit so quickly;* Why it serves as a useful metaphor for Trump's Iran war, and just about every initiative he's undertaken autocratically;* Whether this should also be a cautionary tale for Abundists, who often see the appeal of sweeping aside red tape and process to Get Things Done Fast. Then, Brian briefly ventures into amateur architecture and engineering with some proposals for fixing the reflecting pool for all time. (Surely no one's thought of THIS before!) But we mostly assess the damage done by Jewish-American Iran hawks, via their effort to make Israel an appendage of the GOP (currently controlled by a corrupt con artist) and steer the U.S. into a losing war. Will they ever reflect on the harm they've caused? Is schadenfreude the order of the day? Or is that just whistling past the graveyard? And are there lessons here for leftists who are now tempted to make common cause with Trump against Israel?Answers are available in full to paid subscribers—just upgrade your subscription and pipe full episodes directly to your favorite podcast app via your own private feed.Further reading:* Brian on the self-righteous, right-wing American Jews who were being cavalier with Jewish lives all along. * Matt on how Trump's (autocratic) war on state capacity is coming home to roost.* Brian again, on how Trump switching sides in the war he lost doesn't make him a Palestinian liberationist. * Matt, again, on how Trump's “reflecting pool” foreign policy is “violent and cynical and bad.”
YoutubeThis week on a very weird combo episode of Funbearable, we talk: Trix losing its vibrance, a new cereal mascot, a revelation about testicles, a quick revisit to the NOFX doc we've talked about, and the best wedding song of all time! But most importantly, a discussion on the Balki-verse (yes, the Balki from Perfect Strangers, of course). AND THEN - for a very special reason - we talk about the wonderful and prolific Hank Azaria from the Simpsons, as well as Weird Al. You'll find out why during the episode. Enjoy it!Video edit by Craig Depina@funbearablepod / funbearablepod.com#hankazaria #balki #tgif #trix #weirdal #podcast #lol

The pair made a decision to travel to Switzerland to help him end his life. Bloom’s latest book is different. “Blunt Instrument” is a vivacious, and often hilarious, murder mystery that’s set in the world of academia. And it’s partly inspired by Wesleyan University. In this programme we report from the show, hearing farmers' views on the Scottish Government's plan for a supermarket price cap on essential food items, speaking to the new Cabinet Secretary for Climate Action and Rural Affairs and hearing about the hardest job on the showground... ice cream tasting!Meanwhile in the south west of England, we hear about an emergency by-law that's been passed in Cornwall, to restrict the number of boats coming in to fish for octopus. The ongoing octopus bloom has been described as a 'gold rush' as huge sums are being made - two weeks ago Brixham fish market experienced a record catch of 103 tonnes, worth £400,000. But the octopus are also causing problems - eating crab and lobster and devastating that industry locally.Presented by Caz Graham Produced by Heather Simons

More than one-fifth of the 150K+ convenience stores have spoken, and they shared some interesting opinions about the growing energy drinks category. And even if you aren't familiar with every insight regarding this beverage category, I'm sure you intuitively recognize that convenience is the most important sales channel (by sales dollars) for energy drinks in the U.S. market. But here are my top “categorical” takeaways from the most recent Goldman Sachs Beverage Bytes survey. Firstly, c-stores are preparing to allocate more space for the female-focused, better-for-you energy drink brands…with 87% stating they'll find more room for Bloom between now and January 2027. Similarly, after just lapping its first year in-market, Phorm Energy is expected to earn more “cooler space” between now and the start of next year. Finally for my category “inflation watchers,” around 81% expect pricing to increase across the energy drinks market throughout the year…with 25% believing price hikes will be “significant.”

Nutrabolt CEO Doss Cunningham has spent more than two decades building Nutrabolt and the C4 brand into global household names, doing it almost entirely from behind the scenes. In Episode #222 of the PricePlow Podcast, that changes, and we get to shine a light on the visionary leader. Doss sits down with Mike and Ben for our first in-depth podcast conversation together, covering everything from C4’s origin story to the strategic reinvention of Cellucor. Changes for Cellucor, C4 Energy’s Growth, and Expansion Beyond Bloom The trigger for the conversation is what’s happening right now. Cellucor wiped its social media slate clean and launched Cellucor Longevity Creatine + NAD as the opening move in a new Active Health & Wellness direction. But Doss goes much further here, covering the hard lessons from failed brands, the Bloom investment and portfolio vision, C4 Energy’s push to own the “Everyone’s an Athlete” performance lane, and what’s coming next across the Nutrabolt lineup. Most people come to a wealth manager for one reason: their finances. But what if focusing exclusively on financial wealth is actually making it harder to achieve? Nurturing the various types of wealth (social, physical, mental, time, and financial) is the central idea behind Sahil Bloom's book, The 5 Types of Wealth. In this episode, host Chris Galeski sits down with Wealth Advisor Bruce Tyson to reflect on Bloom's framework. The conversation weaves together philosophy, personal experience, and practical wisdom, including Bruce's own story of losing his home in the Palisades Fire and how decades of intentional relationship building showed up exactly when it mattered most. Key Takeaways Financial wealth is the starting point, not the destination. Focusing exclusively on money at the expense of your health, relationships, and time can make the very life you are building toward feel empty when you arrive. The five types of wealth work together as a system. Social wealth is the one most likely to get sacrificed — and the hardest to rebuild. People who spend years prioritizing work over relationships often retire to find their social circle has quietly disappeared. The time to invest in relationships is before you need them. Curiosity is one of the few things that can permanently raise your baseline happiness. Most achievements — awards, promotions, financial milestones — produce a temporary lift before happiness returns to its baseline. Intellectual curiosity is different. It compounds. Time wealth is what most people are actually trying to buy. The goal of financial planning is not a number. It is control over your time. Understanding that early changes how you save, spend, and make decisions throughout your life. Living within your means is not a limitation — it is a foundation. The pursuit of wealth that exceeds your actual assets is a reliable source of stress. Knowing what is enough, and being honest about it, is one of the most underrated financial decisions a person can make.
An emergency by-law has been passed in Cornwall, to restrict the number of boats coming in to take advantage of the ongoing bloom of octopus on the south coast. It's been described as a 'gold rush' as huge sums are being made - Brixham fish market recently experienced a record catch of 103 tonnes - worth £400,000. But the octopus are also causing problems - eating crab and lobster and devastating that industry locally. It's hoped the new by-law will help those stocks recover. The Royal Highland Show is taking place this week, so we're taking a closer look at Scottish agricultural policy. It's devolved, so the Scottish government has developed new post Brexit farming and environment schemes which we'll talk more about later in the week - but one aspect is it's support for organic farming. The latest figures, from the UK government show a 115% rise in Scottish land farmed organically in 2025, accross the UK there was a 7.3% rise. The organic certifiying and campaigning group The Soil Association says political backing and the scrapping of an upper limit on farm size for organic grants has helped. Presented by Charlotte Smith and produced by Sally Challoner.

"A letter is a joy of Earth — It is denied the Gods —," sez Emily Dickinson (#1672), and THE MAN WHO READ EVERYTHING: The Literary Letters of Harold Bloom (Yale University Press) proves it! Heather Cass White rejoins the show to talk about editing Harold Bloom's letters for the book, her history with him and what she learned about him over the course of the project, and how the letters revealed a less determined Bloom and how she empathized with the struggles he went through in his career. We get into the people whose correspondence she included — Alvin Feinman, Northrop Frye, AR Ammons, John Hollander, John Ashbery, James Merrill, Henri Cole, and Ursula K Le Guin — and all the writers and critics she wishes she could have included, the books and projects Bloom proposed but never completed (or started) over the years, the fun she had writing the footnotes, the one person Bloom was intimidated to meet, Bloom's role in the Canon Wars 30-40 years ago (and my practice of checking off books from The List at the end of The Western Canon), where he fell on Ashbery vs. Ammons, and whether marriage is the true subject of literature. We also discuss how her next book on the correspondence of Elizabeth Bishop and Marianne Moore is the opposite of this one, her go-to books to teach American fiction, why she dropped out of Knausgaard before the finish line, how students have & haven't changed over a quarter century of teaching, her late arrival to Surfjan Stevens' music, how I solved her long-standing question about a moment from Bloom's memorial, and a lot more. Third-party IVF is getting bigger, but are clinics actually getting better at it?Or are some efforts to streamline the process creating new risks for patients?Dr. Allison Bloom of Main Line Fertility and Dr. Daniel Shapiro of Reproductive Biology Associates (RBA) discuss what separates a clinic that offers third-party reproduction from one that truly excels at it.We dive into:The push to streamline third-party IVF (and where corners may be getting cut)The technology stack donor & surrogacy programs needThe gaps in today's EMRs and what needs to changeEmerging trends around known donorsNew thinking on anonymous vs. de-identified donationOne thing each physician believes clinics should start (or stop) doing to become a third-party IVF powerhouseAs third-party reproduction becomes more common, the operational, ethical, and technological challenges become harder to ignore.

Footballguys The Audible - Fantasy Football Info for Serious Fans
On this episode of On the Couch, Sigmund Bloom sits down with Patrick Daugherty to dig into one of the most important — and misunderstood — questions in football: Are NFL general managers actually getting better… or are we just grading them on vibes and results. Pat's annual GM rankings spark a wide‑ranging conversation about team‑building, risk‑taking, politics inside front offices, and how fantasy managers can learn from the best (and worst) decision‑makers in the league. From blockbuster trades to quiet roster construction, Bloom and Pat break down what separates the sharp GMs from the ones who are just surviving. This one goes deep — team philosophy, talent evaluation, organizational psychology, and how all of it trickles down to fantasy football strategy. watch on YouTube -> https://youtube.com/live/uk8W88gMTDQ ⏱️ Timestamps 00:00 — Is John Schneider coming for Howie Roseman's crown 05:00 — Will the AJ Brown trade go down as a Howie masterstroke 10:09 — Is AJ Brown going to be happy in New England 13:08 — Does losing AJ Brown expose Jalen Hurts 19:13 — Why Monti Ossenfort ranks dead last 27:21 — What we know (and don't know) about the three new NFL GMs 32:06 — Does the Myles Garrett trade redeem the Ty Simpson pick for the Rams 38:29 — Why great NFL and fantasy GMs must take risks 43:40 — Why political GMs might actually be the worst GMs
