She has always loved to cook, and began experimenting with allergy friendly cooking when her children were young, due to health issues. She began her blog, Quirky Cooking, in December 2008, as a place to share her recipes and tips for healthy cooking, especially for those with diet challenges. Her first cookbook, Quirky Cooking, was published in May, 2014 and quickly became a bestseller. She is now working on a second cookbook with wholefoods chef and food writer, Fouad Kassab, called ‘Life-Changing Food’. Two years ago, Jo and her family embarked on the GAPS diet to help their son Isaac heal from anxiety, depression and OCD. They saw amazing improvements not only in Isaac’s health and well-being, but in their whole family’s health. Jo has become very dedicated to helping her readers learn to use food for healing and has released an online program to teach cooking for the GAPS Intro diet. As well as her blog and books, Jo has a podcast called ‘A Quirky Journey’, runs various online support groups, regularly speaks at seminars around Australia and overseas, on podcasts, radio and online webinars, teaches private and public cooking classes, answers questions from readers on social media daily, and is an ambassador for the MINDD Foundation. It's my pleasure to introduce a Wild Human: Fouad Kassab is a whole-foods chef and author of The Food Blog. He's a man who understands what living in flow is all about, and how we can re-connect to our wild ways to achieve this. This podcast interview is a wonderful insight to the power of food on our lives, and an amazing story of overcoming challenges and finding a better way to live. Growing up in a war-torn Lebanon, Fouad spent his formative years dodging bombs and feeding on food rations. As a youth he had a range of auto-immune diseases, was overweight and extremely unhealthy. So he was pumped with antibiotics and had a diet dependant on international aid, heavy with highly refined flour, sugar and skim milk powder. After moving to Australia he continued to battle health issues. Medical practitioners continued to offer no other options but to take endless rounds of medication. Fouad began an inner journey to health. He began exploring more natural ways of healing, with food as his medicine. In 2011 he lost 34 kilos, healed many chronic illnesses and greatly reduced symptoms of lingering ailments. He now helps others water the seed of wildness, create a relationship with food and nature, and by doing so... heal the wounds that separate us from our true selves.
