Hannah Maloney has perhaps the most enviable job in the world - and she knows it - as a presenter on Gardening Australia which she calls a "dream gig". Hannah's journey to the small screen however started in, inner city Brisbane where her parents had a small herb nursery. Leaving this behind at 18, Hannah travelled the country (and world) ending up right back where she started - working on small scale farms and this led her to the world of permaculture. Hannah now lives in a pink house on a hill, overlooking Hobart, TAS  which she shares with her husband and daughter as well as a menagerie of goats, chickens  ducks and bees. Hannah set up her company "Good Life Permaculture" to allow her to bring education on permaculture (which she is formally trained in) to those searching for it with the aim of developing community and designs that helps create good lives and landscapes. She is a best selling author and self described activist and in this podcast talks about her journey, what permaculture is and how that transcends from the garden through to everyday life. She also tells us of how what she does is led by her values and how "having fun" and "doing things that make her smile"  is a conscious part of her philosophy - something which led to her pink house and pink hair. Hosts: Sam Baff and Jayde Timms from Grown Not FlownGuest: Hannah Maloney - Good Life Permaculture and Gardening Australia.Website: www.goodlifepermaculture.com.auInstagram: @goodlife_permaculture

Over the last few years I think a lot of us had to look at our food supply chain with very honest eyes and realise that some things need to change.  7.3 million tonnes of food is lost or wasted every year while 5 million Australians go hungry  17% of total food available to consumers in 2019, went into the waste bins of households,  retailers, restaurants and other food services The average Australian family throws away $3,800 worth of groceries per household each year The average Australian household is sends roughly 4.9 kilograms of food waste to landfill each week 75% of all food that is sent to landfill comes from our households This week's guest Is Hannah Moloney of Good Life Permaculture where her and husband design permaculture landscaping for their clients and run workshops on radical home making. You may even have seen Hannah on Gardening Australia - she's the one with pink hair who lives in the wild pink house in Hobart. This week we talk about food production, waste reduction, living a slow life of joy and how it's it's pronounced 'ca-len-jewel-la' not 'cal-en-dool-la'.  This week's bonus is a mega permaculture resource list with podcasts, experts, books and blogs. Join me in this episode of Sense-Making in a Changing World, as I chat with Hannah Maloney - Nipaluna/Hobart-based permaculture writer, designer, educator, film-maker and change-maker who has just released her first book, The Good Life: How to Grow a Better World - a positive book about how what you do everyday is climate action. I first met Hannah's dad when we were starting Northey Street City Farm in Meanjin/Brisbane. Lots of the original herbs came from his nursery. She grew up in this inner city herb nursery and inherited a love of plants  and met many amazing mentors along her journey into a permaculture life. For the past 15 years, Hannah as been creating permaculture projects of all kinds with the bigger picture always of contributing to a climate safe future, and establishing her own urban permaculture home and garden on a steep hillside. In 2015 she was awarded the Tasmanian ‘Young Landcare Leader Award' for her work with Good Life Permaculture and co-establishing Hobart City Farm (since closed). In 2018, she took part in the Tasmanian Leader's Program and in 2019 started appearing as a guest presenter with Gardening Australia on ABC TV and featured in the Women Of The Island project.
