Musical instruments, fashion, farming or cars? There is a Tassie Devil loose on the Gold Coast and the clock is ticking! How can we track down Mary and what do we do if we find her?! Queensland days is this weekend, so the team give their Podiums of QLD and for the first time ever, everyone has the same thing on their podium – Steve Irwin, obviously! Damian Bush felt fit, coached footy, hit the gym, and weighed 80kg. Then a routine check found his resting heart rate sitting at 137 and he was in emergency heart surgery the next day.Damian has been a Jim's Mowing franchisee in Tasmania for nearly 10 years and supports the Tassie network alongside running his own crew. He joins Joel on the Jim's Mowing podcast to share the health scare that nearly took him out, and the business systems that kept his income running while he recovered. The conversation covers why franchisees service their machines but neglect themselves, the income protection gap most operators have no idea about, and how Damian turned every Tasmanian customer into a fortnightly retainer across all four seasons. Damian also breaks down the personal brand standards he runs his business by, how one local franchisee got 18 five-star Google reviews in two weeks, and why sponsoring local sport teams and raffle prizes still outperforms digital ads for long-term franchisees. If you run a service business or you are looking at a Jim's franchise, this one is worth your time.0:00 Diversifying services and winter upsells0:45 Meet Damian Bush, Tasmania franchisee1:10 The health scare that changed everything3:14 A resting heart rate of 137 with no symptoms6:23 Why franchisees skip their own check-ups9:25 Income protection and personal cover12:11 Diversifying into a full-garden retainer model14:24 How to get off Jim's leads and build referrals19:07 Personal brand standards every franchisee needs22:30 Setting your own non-negotiable standards24:34 Upselling, networking, and Google My Business33:00 Why one franchisee gets requested by name38:16 The 30 doors a day local marketing tactic40:21 Sponsoring sport teams and raffle prizes46:31 Building referrals through community trust
Knuckles sits down in Launceston, Tasmania with Cam Hay from Mustr Racing for the first ever Proper True Yarn pod recorded in Tassie. Cam runs Mustr Racing with his two brothers Michael and Tom — a micro-share syndication business making race horse ownership accessible to everyday Aussies. The boys yarn about Cam's failed-professional-punter grandfather, his dad's first horse share bought off a hot day at the races, and how Mustr has partnered with Alpha Blokes, Hello Sport, and now Knuckles himself on the new horse — Buckeye. Cam breaks down how a one-off $255 buy-in covers training fees, vet costs, race day events and a merch pack for the entire career of the horse — no surprise bills, no monthly invoices. Just the fun of being an owner without getting smashed by ongoing fees. Part 1 of 2 — next episode dives into how Cam and the boys actually pick the horses they syndicate.

We start today's pod with stretching tips from Mark, he's discovered a new technique which is working wonders. And Dan shares with Nick and Mark is shonky shoulder, and that he's been recommended dry needling to fix it. We're all falling apart at Talk Birdie HQ.Onto some comments and questions from wolfpackers. Steve has just returned from playing a bunch of the big Tassie courses, including 7 Mile Beach and gives his review. Era Golf enjoyed the chat about commentators last week, but felt that it was an oversight to not mention Sandy Roberts and the great Jack Newton....we can't recall if we did or not, but if Era Golf says we didn't we'll cop it.Passion has a slightly different take on Hole in One's and when they do or don't count. Do Nick and Mark agree?Sven has heard a rumour about Tiger and his pace of play, and is curious as to whether the boys can confirm it or not. During this chat, Nick reveals a hat that he was recently given which he says, aside from at home, he will never wear in public. We'll work on it.And Jim is excited for Dottie Pepper to come on the show....as are we Jim !!!! We've now locked her in, it'll be in about a month. After the turn, Kristin wants to clarify Nick and Marks comments about some American courses being 'cookie cutter', she says that may have once been the case but is no longer. And a few messages about shooting your age from Mark in New Zealand, Bruce in Ballarat, and Matt in Ocean Grove.A fun question from Craig in Montmorency who wants to know what clubs and gear is tucked away in Nick and Marks garages...he envisages it being like a mini Golf Clearance Outlet....and then.....this leads to Mark telling a story about being wooed by Top-Flite many years ago, and ending up with a specific club that he used in the Australian Masters when he finished Top 5......but the club may have been non-conforming. He explains why. There may need to be an inquiry, and perhaps the record books need to be written to reflect this heinous error. We're live from Titleist and FootJoy HQ thanks to our great partners:Hostplus, Talk Birdie To Me's official retirement partnerBMW, luxury and comfort for the 19th hole;Titleist, the #1 ball in golf;FootJoy, the #1 shoe and glove in golf;PING will help you play your best;Golf Clearance Outlet, they beat everyone's prices;Betr, the fastest and easiest betting app in Australia; And Southern Golf Club. Rebecca Gross has been sending updates from the road all year and After cycling from Austria to Australia across something like 30 countries this is the final one!In this update Rebecca talks us through cycling theTassie Traverse, a relatively new bikepacking route running from Hobart up to Launceston through the Highlands and along the east coast. She covers a detour to Maria Island (wombats everywhere, no cars, highly recommended), a night in a tent that was decidedly not waterproof, a private waterfall at sunset after the worst day of the whole traverse, and a Huntsman spider making a last-minute appearance on her handlebars on the final day into Melbourne. She also reflects on what it feels like to come home after a year on the road and why the whole thing already feels like it happened to someone else.
