Jamaica's Data Protection Act will be coming into effect on 1 December 2023, but myths and misconceptions have persisted. With Grace Lindo, an attorney at law at Carter Lindo in Jamaica, we tackle some of the misconceptions along with exploring compliance in a variety of different scenarios. Among other things, Grace also discusses the potential implications and obligations under the new dispensation: * When using certain technologies and platforms, such as WhatsApp, Artificial Intelligence and ChatGPT in the workplace; * In the ethical use of data, particularly for research; * In direct marketing; and * When data breaches occur. In our increasingly digital world, there has been a growing vigilance by countries worldwide, including those in the Caribbean, with respect to national security. In many jurisdictions, it has resulted in the creation of agencies that have broad and deep powers to collect and retain personal data – not only on their citizens, but on anyone who gets caught their net. Attorney at law, Grace Lindo, discusses the uneasy tension that exists between a State’s concern about national security and an individual’s right to privacy, with a particular focus on what obtains in Jamaica, and the challenges that are being experienced there. Let ¼ cup of plain yogurt with live cultures come to room temperature. Temper the yogurt with the warm milk. Add tempered yogurt to the pot of warm milk. Mix. Pour into two quart sized canning jars and place in a cooler filled with hot tap water. Let set overnight or at least eight hours. Line a large colander with a flour sack cotton towel set over a container to catch the whey. Tie up the four corners of the towel together and suspend over the colander/container to drain. Let drain until reduced by half. Refrigerate the thickened yogurt and the drained whey separately. Use the whey to thin the yogurt if needed or when making baked goods. Otherwise, pour over your hydrangeas to acidify the soil. Sweeten the yogurt, if desired, with stevia and berries.
