Back to school season is just around the corner, and Brian From sits down with Julie Messina, principal of St. Peter Lutheran School in Schaumburg, Illinois — a school that has been educating families for 189 years and sits on 30 acres in the middle of the suburbs. Julie talks about what makes a private Lutheran school distinctive: daily prayer, weekly chapel, classroom buddy programs pairing older and younger students, and class sizes averaging around ten students per teacher. She pushes back on the assumption that private Christian schools offer less than public schools — St. Peter has Lego club, chess club, cross country, volleyball, basketball, cheer and dance — and shares what alumni consistently say when they come back: "High school was a breeze. You prepared us so well." Brian also highlights the school voucher program available through AM1160 at elevensixtyhope.com for families concerned about tuition, and Julie points to the Kirsch Flat scholarship fund — supported by an annual golf outing — for additional financial assistance. In this episode of “At Your Convenience,” CSP Editor Chuck Ulie talks with Liza Salaria, senior vice president – category management and foodservice, at Chicago-based W. Capra, about crafting promotions with purpose. The two spoke at CSP's Foodservice Forum on June 11 in Schaumburg, Illinois. On the podcast, Salaria offers suggestions on which strategy or strategies to use when promoting an item.“If you find yourself in a situation where maybe transactions are soft and trips are down in your store, you may elect to run a heavily discounted product, like maybe fountain, with the sole purpose to drive incremental trips into the store,” Salaria said.In addition, if customers are visiting a c-store less often, “We need to get them to buy more when they are in our stores, and that's called increasing the basket size, and there are certain promotions we do to particularly accomplish that,” she said.Retailers also need to get creative on how to develop new daypart missions, Salaria said.“How do we create new reasons for customers to break in the middle of their day, get away from their computers and come to the local convenience store for maybe something unique, like maybe it's a smoothie, or it's a hot cookie, or some new reason?” she asked.“At Your Convenience” brings industry experts and analysts together with CSP editors to discuss the latest in c-store news and trends. From mergers and acquisitions to foodservice and technology, the podcast delivers the story straight to listeners in short-format episodes, perfect for the morning commute or a quick break at the office.

Floppy Days 164 - The Sphere, Part 1 with Ben Zotto Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/FloppyDays Sponsors: 8-Bit Classics Arcade Shopper and https://thekeep.net FutureVision Research Tuc's Workbench Hello!!! and welcome to episode 164 of the Floppy Days Podcast, for June, 2026. My name is Randy Kindig and I'm your host for this joy ride through the rewarding hobby of vintage computers and computer history. I have to start off by apologizing, as I'll actually be stepping back in the computer timeline for this episode. Sometimes it happens. My goal from the beginning of this podcast was to go through computers in the approximate order they were released (at least by year). And, I've largely done that with this podcast. However, sometimes a machine comes up that I didn't know about or didn't recognize its importance at the time I put together the list of computers to cover. This month that computer is the Sphere, which was introduced in 1975. That's right, I said 1975. That was the same year as the Altair and even before the Apple 1. What was the Sphere and why do we care? The Sphere was the first "personal computer," defined as such by Byte Magazine due to its consumer focus and built-in keyboard and monitor. Now, I know that many computers can claim the moniker of first "personal computer", and rightly so, but this one has the endorsement of an early, well-respected, long-running computer magazine and they have good reason for feeling this way about the Sphere. Once you hear the details, you'll see just how ground-breaking this machine was at a very early period of computer history. Not only that, some of the personal stories behind the machine are simply downright fascinating. Ben Zotto is the undisputed expert on the Sphere in these times, after finding an abandoned machine sitting on the sidewalk and deciding to adopt it and learn more about it. He recently wrote a comprehensive book on the Sphere called "Go Computer Now!" that I mentioned the last episode I had acquired. Well, I ended up reading that book cover-to-cover and really enjoying it. So much so that I decided to contact Ben and see if he would be willing to come onto the podcast to talk about his book and the Sphere Computer. Thankfully, he was. This podcast actually serves two purposes: first as an interview with Ben to learn more about him and his book, and secondly as an overview of a computer I didn't cover back when I started this podcast back in 2013 with the Altair 8800 and the Apple 1. So, this will be a 2-part journey on the Sphere. This month we talk in great detail with Ben Zotto about how he ended up going down the Sphere rabbit hole and all the great things he's done to promote an important machine that was forgotten in the annals of history. Next month, Ben and I go through all the usual topics about the Sphere: history, tech specs, using the machine, current Web sites and a great deal more. I really hope you enjoy hearing about the Sphere and meeting Ben Zotto! Hello to you listening in Schaumburg, Illinois! Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Story Prompt Friday and your host, Diane Wyzga. One summer afternoon Nasruddin was relaxing under a massive walnut tree. He looks up at the tiny walnuts hanging above him and then to a nearby garden patch of ripe watermelons growing on small vines. Nasruddin looks up to the sky and says, “Lord, your creation is wonderful, but sometimes illogical. Why would you hang tiny nuts on a giant tree, and huge melons on a thin, frail vine?" Just then, a walnut falls from the branches and hits him squarely on the head. Nasruddin says, “Forgive my desire to be right. If you had hung watermelons on this tree, I would be dead!" Maybe like me you've had practice with being a know-it-all, all the time. Let's face it: the need to be right is exhausting! So, why do we cling to being right? Culture, schooling, religion, family, and community all play a part in teaching us that being right is all about being perfect and perfect is desirable. But what has perfect ever done for you? Over time I've come face-to-face with this: I don't really know as much as I think I do. I concede to watermelons on the ground and walnuts in a tree. Story Prompt: Think of a time when you were okay to let go of the need to be right, to know it all, have it all, and be it all. What happened next? Write that story and share it out loud! You're always welcome: "Come for the stories - Stay for the magic!" Speaking of magic, I hope you'll subscribe, share a 5-star rating and nice review on your social media or podcast channel of choice, bring your friends and rellies, and join us!

What does it truly mean to live with purpose and how can our everyday actions shape the lives of others? In this episode of Daily Influence, Gregg-Brooke Koleno sits down with Rabbi Mendel Greenberg of Chabad of Schaumburg to explore the idea that influence isn't reserved for a select few, it's something we all carry, no matter our age, title, or stage in life. From his upbringing in Shanghai to his work strengthening community today, Rabbi Greenberg shares powerful stories and insights on how even the smallest moments - a conversation, a smile, or a simple act of giving—can create a ripple effect of positive change. Together, they discuss: • Why you're never too young (or too small) to make an impact • The connection between values, faith, and responsible influence • How consistent, intentional actions shape who we become • The importance of time—and using each day with purpose • Practical ways to start influencing others today This conversation is a reminder that influence isn't about position, it's about intention. When we show up with purpose and act with care, we have the ability to make the world a better place one interaction at a time. This week on Inspire Change, Gunter discusses resentment. Resentment is one of the most misunderstood and quietly destructive emotional experiences we carry. In this solo episode of Inspire Change with Gunter, Gunter explores resentment not as explosive anger, but as a slow, chronic emotional accumulation that can shape identity, distort perception, and quietly erode relationships and personal well-being.Through psychological insight, clinical observation, and deeply reflective guidance, Gunter breaks down how resentment forms, why it persists, and how it manifests mentally, emotionally, behaviorally, and even physically in the body. Most importantly, he offers a structured, compassionate roadmap for transforming resentment into clarity, agency, and emotional freedom. This episode invites listeners to examine where unresolved wounds may still be influencing their present lives — and how releasing resentment can become a powerful act of self-liberation.Key Themes & Discussion PointsUnderstanding Resentment Beyond AngerResentment as chronic, unresolved emotional buildupHow resentment often disguises itself as moral righteousness or principleThe connection between resentment and unexpressed truths, unmet needs, and unspoken boundariesThe Three Structural Components of ResentmentPerceived Injury – When expectations, trust, or fairness feel violatedInhibited Expression – When emotions cannot be safely or openly communicatedMoral Accounting – The internal ledger that tracks perceived imbalance in relationshipsHow Resentment Shapes Our Inner WorldThe mind's tendency to replay and reinforce grievance narrativesPolarization of perception that reduces people to their mistakesThe illusion of strength resentment can provide while quietly draining emotional resilienceBehavioral and Relational ManifestationsPassive resistance, sarcasm, withdrawal, and communication breakdownOver-functioning and people-pleasing patterns that create hidden emotional debtScorekeeping in relationships and how it erodes intimacy and connectionThe Physical and Somatic Impact of ResentmentChronic tension and stress responses stored in the bodyEmotional states that influence sleep, mood, and nervous system regulationUsing bodily awareness as an early indicator of unresolved resentmentThe Deeper Psychological and Existential EffectsHow resentment can distort worldview and identityThe role resentment plays in avoiding vulnerability, grief, and personal accountabilityWhy resentment can paradoxically maintain dysfunctional relationshipsMemorable Episode Insights“Resentment is anger that has nowhere to go, combined with the story that it shouldn't have happened."“Resentment is often a protest against helplessness — the psyche saying this mattered.”“Resentment is the guard dog at the gate of grief.”“When you track love like a spreadsheet, intimacy goes bankrupt.”“Letting go of resentment isn't about excusing the past — it's about releasing internal captivity.”Why This Conversation MattersResentment is one of the most common yet unspoken emotional burdens people carry. Left unaddressed, it can limit joy, restrict vulnerability, and shape how individuals relate to themselves and others. This episode encourages listeners to approach emotional healing with precision, accountability, and compassion, creating space for deeper connection, authenticity, and personal transformation.GratitudeHello to all our listeners, we thank you for tuning in and promoting positive social change. "Episode 252 - Walleye Fishing Tactics That Actually Work with Joe Henry | Reading Water, Finding Fish & Chicagoland Fishing Expo" In this episode of the HuntFishTravel Podcast, I welcome back Joe Henry, Executive Director of Lake of the Woods Tourism, to talk all things Chicagoland Fishing Expo and walleye fishing tactics that actually work. Joe breaks down the seminars he'll be presenting in Schaumburg, including how to read the water, where walleyes live and why, and how to apply the same tactics across different lakes and regions. We get into practical strategies like doing your homework before you ever hit the water, identifying high-percentage spots, running a "milk run" on new lakes, and adjusting your approach based on wind, water color, light conditions, and fish behavior. Joe also shares real-world tips on efficiency, boat control, and small adjustments that can make a big difference whether you're fishing shallow or deep. Along the way, we talk about learning from others, being willing to ask questions no matter your experience level, and how mentorship and community play a huge role in becoming a better angler. From personal fishing stories to the importance of giving back and helping others succeed, this episode is a reminder that fishing isn't just about catching fish, it's about growth, relationships, and time spent on the water. 00:00 Welcome and Expo Overview 01:22 Motivational Kickstart 05:09 Fishing Techniques and Learning Experiences 10:58 The Importance of Continuous Learning 15:37 Upcoming Seminars at the Expo 21:57 Fishing Conditions and Strategies 28:41 Fishing Memories and Family Bonds 29:34 The Importance of Veteran Organizations 31:29 Paid Forward: A Healing Fishing Event for Veterans 33:32 Understanding Veteran Experiences 38:01 The Chicagoland Fishing Expo: What to Expect 44:39 Building Community Through Fishing Events

Many of the 800+ SFN Mentor Fathers, who are raising kids with special needs, have said: "I wish there was something like this when we first received our child's diagnosis. I felt so isolated. There was no one within my family, at work, at church or within my friend group who understood or could relate to what I was going through."SFN Mentor Fathers share their experiences with younger dads closer to the beginning of their journey raising a child with the same or similar special needs. The SFN Mentor Fathers do NOT offer legal or medical advice, that is what lawyers and doctors do. They simply share their experiences and how they have made the most of challenging situations.Check out the 21CD YouTube Channel with dozens of videos on topics relevant to dads raising children with special needs - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCzDFCvQimWNEb158ll6Q4cA/videosPlease support the SFN. We set up at the Abilities Expo in Schaumburg for a fast, unpolished conversation with Brandon—part survivor, part builder—about what it takes to turn a life-altering crash into a life with direction. No studio polish, just honest talk about spinal cord injury, early rehab victories, the detours that come with school and work, and the strange comfort of finding your people in a crowded hall of adaptive tech.Brandon walks us through the moment everything changed, the grind of physical therapy, and the real-world choices that shape long-term recovery. We dig into the power of community at events like the Abilities Expo, where peer knowledge travels faster than brochures, and a five-minute demo can upend a tired limit. We talk practical resilience: how to stack small wins, protect energy, and turn experience into service without slipping into empty hype. There's humor too—travel from Nashville, first-podcast jitters, and that universal cringe of hearing your own voice. Underneath it all lives a grounded perspective: life flips in a heartbeat, gratitude rebuilds in inches. If you're navigating injury, disability, or a hard restart, this speedcast is a reminder that progress rarely arrives in a straight line. It shows up as community, courage, and the next honest step.Tap play, share it with someone who needs momentum, and if the conversation resonates, like, comment, and subscribe. Then tell us: what small win moved you forward today?
We're on-site at the Abilities Expo in Schaumburg meeting Samantha, a freshly graduated 18-year-old heading to UIC who speaks with clarity about independence, dignity, and the everyday design of an accessible life. This isn't inspiration theater. It's practical courage: how to choose a major, compare campuses, and advocate for accommodations while keeping joy and curiosity in the driver's seat.Samantha walks us through life with a rare distal SMA, explaining her mobility in simple, honest terms and the mindset shifts that help her move from can't to how. She opens up about navigating high school among mostly able-bodied peers, finding friends who lead with respect, and attending MDA camp where perspective deepened into gratitude. We talk candidly about ramps and elevators, yes, but also about the less visible layers of access: seating layouts, syllabus flexibility, communication with professors, and the social cues that make classrooms feel human. Her plan to start at UIC and possibly transfer to UIUC illuminates the real calculus many students with disabilities face—community versus proximity, services versus cost, growth versus comfort.Family runs through this conversation like steel cable. A sister who turns visibility into pride, a mom who scouts tools and options, and a veteran dad whose philosophy is simple and strong: you can do hard things, differently.Samantha's message is one to carry: you're not alone, it might be harder, and you are more than what meets the eye.Press play for a grounded, hopeful take on college accessibility, disability advocacy, and resilience you can use. If this resonated, follow the show, leave a review, and share it with someone who needs proof that independence has many paths—and all of them start with your voice.

Chance encounters can create the most powerful connections. When the Quadfather met Sabeeh at the Abilities Expo in Schaumburg, their shared experience as ventilator users instantly created a bond that transcends the typical podcast conversation."We've got stories to tell," says the Quadfather early in their exchange—and indeed they do. Sabeeh, at 35, reveals her lifelong journey with a rare genetic condition called PAX7 gene, a form of congenital myopathy that has required ventilator support since she was just three years old. Meanwhile, the Quadfather shares his own path to ventilator use following a military car accident nearly a decade ago. Despite these different origins, they discover immediate common ground in using the same LTV ventilator model, both expressing the same fear about switching to newer technology. What makes this conversation remarkable isn't just their medical similarities but the glimpse into everyday life as ventilator users. From the practical challenges of attending a Taylor Swift concert (complete with portable generators for medical equipment) to finding joy through online shopping during difficult days, Sabeeh and the Quadfather demonstrate that disability is just one facet of their full, complex lives. Their casual mention of Sabeeh's memorable meeting with Taylor Swift reminds listeners that behind every medical device is a person with passions, interests, and remarkable experiences. The genuine warmth and instant connection between these two strangers-turned-friends serves as a powerful reminder of why representation matters. When Sabeeh says "your strength really gravitates towards me," it highlights how seeing ourselves reflected in others can validate our experiences and inspire resilience.Like, comment, and subscribe to help amplify disabled voices that deserve to be heard, and as both hosts remind us at the end—take a breath for those who can't do so independently.
