Thursday, July 18, would be a short day of work for operator Josh Gentry, starting at a leisurely 10 a.m. in Fort Payne, Alabama, outside the Quality Inn in town. There, Gentry met Overdrive Radio host Todd Dills to get rolling, the pair starting the day in Gentry's Chevrolet en route to the site of an old auto dealership in town that, since the mid-1980s, has been the home base of the fan club for longtime country-rock group Alabama. It's also home base for the group's tour truck, in which Gentry was about to set out on a run. Josh Gentry is son of one of the last two founding members in the band, bassist and harmony singer Teddy Gentry. Josh, after years pursuing music himself, then hauling grain around his home region (some of those years as an owner-operator), today serves as hauler of Alabama's touring operation, moved in a single truck and 48-foot Great Dane show trailer emblazoned with the band's insignia and the "Roll On II North America Tour" logo. That truck, a 2021 Kenworth T680 detailed in this week's podcast, rekindles an old partnership between the Alabama group and the Kenworth company, dormant after an official farewell tour in the early part of this century. As you'll hear on this run to Nashville to load in for Alabama's July 19 show at Bridgestone arena, Kenworth's relationship with the band tracks back to the 1980s, when the tour operation was as many as four trucks and trailers, and the band was at the height of its popularity with big hits like "Mountain Music," "Tennessee River" and, yes, the classic "Roll On (18 wheeler)," in past named by Overdrive readers in the top five for best trucking song of all time: https://www.overdriveonline.com/channel-19/article/14875984/these-are-the-top-10-trucking-songs-of-all-time Gentry's come full circle with his growing involvement in the tour operation, after a childhood spent enamoured by all things trucking and immersed in his father's band's music. Despite that long history, though, there's still opportunity for new experiences. By 11 a.m. Thursday last week he and Dills were pulling out with a lightly loaded trailer toward the Soundcheck facility's docks to pick up more gear situated a very-short haul across the river from downtown. As the truck and trailer merged onto I-59 toward Chattanooga from Ft. Payne that morning, just as Dills readying his audio recorder for the talk with Gentry, a voice came over the radio -- "Roll on, Alabama!" -- invoking the classic trucking song. Gentry called tour manager Jeff Davis to mark the moment and give him an update on progress toward Nashville for load and staging. Yet the over-the-air atta-boy wasn't the very first bit of attention the wrapped truck and trailer have gotten over going on two years Gentry's been guiding the tour, taking him as far as, most recently, North Dakota and into Manitoba and elsewhere in Canada. Dive into Josh Gentry's trucking history and otherwise in this first episode featuring Overdrive's talk with the operator, the principal interests of his life to date all coming together now in live entertainment hauling with the family business. Catch more views of the truck and trailer, and from the Friday, July 19, live show in Nashville here: https://www.overdriveonline.com/overdrive-radio/podcast/15680069/roll-on-alabama-ft-paynenashville-with-trucker-josh-gentry Find all episodes of Overdrive Radio via https://overdriveonline.com/overdrive-radio

It's been quite a roller coaster lately. I've been coordinating events left and right and all of them have been learning experiences.I got to chat with my gal Salome Valdez for our 2 Chicks & a Mic episode about our last event and how it brought so much awareness into our process of choosing what worked and what didn't work for us.During the chat you will listen to how Salome had a lot of “aha” moments and what she became aware of in making the choices for herself as a team player.I am incredibly grateful for these open minded conversations! IN THIS EPISODE, I TALK ABOUT:What is choosing vs making a decision? When creating choice there is awareness. How can we live in curiosity without making concrete decisions? Good Morning it's Tuesday January 5th and this is Slices of Wenatchee. We're excited to bring you a closer look at one of our top stories and other announcements every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. Today - How the hospitality industry has been affected by the pandemic, and how they're coping. Today's episode is brought to you by Equilus Group Incorporated. Equilus Group, Inc is a Registered Investment Advisory Firm in the states of Washington, Oregon, and Idaho. Equilus Group, Inc- Building Your Financial Success. Learn more at Equilusfinancial.com. Member SIPC and FINRA. Now our feature story… It doesn't take an industry expert to deduce that our hospitality industry has been decimated by the COVID-19 pandemic. With all travel ill-advised, indoor service at restaurants barred, and events canceled - hospitality has inevitably been impacted. The question is, by how much? For restaurants and hotels around the state, the economic harm has been staggering. The Wenatchee Valley Chamber of Commerce recently hosted a roundtable for members in the hospitality industry. According to the Washington Hospitality Association or WHA, over 100,000 jobs in the industry have been lost. They predict a 45% permanent restaurant closure rate across the state. And a survey done by the American Hotel and Lodging Association found that almost half of lodging properties will go into foreclosure. Leavenworth's tax receipts show business experienced dramatic drops early on — a 76% drop in March, 97% in April and 53% in May. Chelan, however, is the outlier. Chelan is above 2019 dollars by 1% — through the first nine months of the year. That's mainly because of the tourism swell from June through September — to which anyone who visited the lake town over the summer can attest. The city was packed to the gills with Seattleites, out-of-towners and local Wenatchee folks looking to escape the mundane for the campgrounds, vineyards and Lake Chelan. But a busy summer didn't necessarily outweigh the hotel/motel tax revenue drops were stark in March, April, and May. While Campbell's Resort and Midtowner Motel President Tom Campbell conceded that they had a good summer, overall the COVID-19 pandemic has been devastating to his business. He said that the net effect on their business has been nothing short of a disaster for us and the industry. Aside from the summer tourism, Campbell said a lot of their room bookings come from conferences, events and government meetings. Leavenworth, which is also known as a resort location, is in the same boat. Even without a Christmas Lighting Festival this year, people are still coming to Leavenworth. On the opposite end of the spectrum, Wenatchee has been down in lodging tax dollars all year. Even in the two months prior to COVID-19 Wenatchee was below 2019 revenues by about 17%. Jerri Barkley, the marketing director at Wenatchee Valley Chamber of Commerce said that the average daily rate of a room has dropped by almost $30 and only 54% of rooms rented. While Barkley said she hasn't tried to predict whether certain hotels would close, what makes her nervous heading into 2021 is the fact that three more properties are already under construction and planning to open - adding 300 hotel rooms to the inventory. And conventions - Wenatchee area hotels' bread-and-butter - are still a question mark heading into 2021. Freyda Stephens, general manager at the Coast Wenatchee Center Hotel, said they're not anticipating bigger meetings until late 2021 or 2022. Steve Tramp, the owner of the Wenatchee Comfort Suites and Quality Inn said he's been running about 50% of the business they did last year. So, why open a hotel now? Tramp admitted that you might say it's crazy now, but they have the building, they have the permit, and there is no better time to learn than during the slow season. Tramp expressed optimism though when looking ahead, he's a glass-half-full kind of guy. Tramp said that despite everything, there is some good stuff too. We have a tendency to look at the things that don't appeal to us and miss the positive things. Next, a virtual event is coming up where actors will portray formative women from Wenatchee's past. Actors will be dressing as formative and influential women from Wenatchee's past at a Wenatchee Valley Museum & Cultural Center program on Thursday the 7th. The virtual People of Our Past event is a continuation of the museum's series on women's suffrage, celebrating the female voice. Amy Edwards will play the role of Elsie Parrish, a chambermaid who sued the Cascadian Hotel for unpaid wages and helped to create a minimum age for women after taking her case to the Supreme Court. Kristy Clare will play as Wenatchee's first female doctor, Katie Renggli as the first female attorney of the Chelan County Bar Association and Julie Kuntz as an influential local educator. Each session of the virtual event will feature a video about one of the local historical figures. The event will take place at noon on January 7th, 14th, 21st and 28th. You can make reservations at wwrld.us/wenatcheewomen or by calling 888-6240. In 1906 a man named Andy Gossman came to Wenatchee from Minnesota. He set up the C&O Nursery, supplying fruit trees to growers planting orchards. That year 60 carloads of fruit, mainly apples, were shipped out of the Wenatchee Valley. Thanks for listening. We'd also like to thank our sponsor again, Equilus Group, Inc, a Registered Investment Advisory Firm in the states of Washington, Oregon, and Idaho. In this episode of Movers & Shakers Josh & Gino interview Chris Petrakis. Topics touched on include: How having skin in the game gave Chris the push needed to do his first deal Why Chris is doing multifamily after successful career Chris covers how he shifted from working hard for his money to having his money having work hard for him How Chris was able to go from educating and kicking tires to implementing and getting results. Chris’s Bio: Chris Petrakis is originally from Gulf Breeze, Florida but currently resides in Birmingham, Michigan with his beautiful wife and two young daughters. After graduating with a degree in Marketing from Lipscomb University, Chris began his 22-year career in Medical Sales; currently, he is an Aortic Field Sales Associate specializing in Endovascular Aortic Aneurysm repair working with Vascular and Cardiothoracic Surgeons for W. L. Gore & Associates. Chris started his real estate investing career in 2002 when he bought his first of five rental properties in the Virginia Beach area. In the meantime, several corporate relocations for career advancement opportunities took him to Baltimore, Boston, Washington, DC and finally to the suburbs of Detroit, where they moved to August of 2019. Moving to his wife’s hometown has surprisingly given Chris the chance to make a leap of faith by committing to multifamily investing. In December of 2019, four months after moving to Michigan, Chris decided to join the Jake and Gino community. It turns out that joining the group was the push he needed to begin his new venture in larger real estate investments. Two months after joining the Jake and Gino community, Chris closed on a value-add Quality Inn and Suites Hotel in February 2020. Currently, he has his first 8-unit MF deal under contract in his home market of Birmingham, Michigan. In addition to real estate investing, Chris and some of his business partners recently opened a speakeasy-style bar in the downtown Main Street section of Plymouth, MI, and he is also a part owner of the restaurant above the bar, Greek Islands Eatery, a family-owned operation. While he’s willing to entertain most any investment opportunity that comes his way, Chris believes he has found his passion in Multifamily Real Estate.

Today we're going to talk through the history of Airbnb. But more importantly, we're going to look at what brought the hospitality industry to a place so ripe to be disrupted. The ancient Greeks, Romans, Persians, and many other cultures provided for putting travelers up while visiting other cities in one way or another. Then inns begins to rise from roads connecting medieval Europe, complete with stables and supplies to get to your next town. The rise of stagecoaches gave way to a steady flow of mail and a rise in travel over longer distances for business gave way to much larger and fancier hotels in the later 1700s and 1800s. In 1888 Cesare Ritz became the first manager of the Savoy hotel in London, after time at the Hotel Splendide in Paris and other hotels. He would open the Paris Ritz in 1898 and expand with properties in Rome, Frankfurt, Palermo, Madrid, Cairo, Johannesburg, Monte Carlo, and of course London. His hotels were in fact so fancy that he gave us the term ritzy. Ritz is one of the most lasting names but this era was the first boom in the hotel industry, with luxury hotels popping up all over the world. Like the Astor, the Waldorf Astoria, the Plaza, the Taj Mahal, and the list goes on. The rise of the hotel industry was on its way when Conrad Hilton bought the Mobley Hotel in Cisco Texas in 1919. By 1925 he would open the Dallas Hilton and while opening further hotels nearly ruined him in the Great Depression he emerged into the post World War II boom times establishing a juggernaut now boasting 568 hotels. Best Western would start in 1946 and now has 4,200 locations. After World War II we saw the rise of the American middle class and the great American road trip. Chains exploded. Choice Hotels which acts as more of a franchiseier established in 1939 sits with 7,000 locations but that's spread across Extended Stay, MainStay, Quality Inn, Cambria Hotels, Comfort Inn, and other brands. Holiday Inn was founded 1952 in the growing post-war boom time by Kemmons Wilson and named after the movie by the same name. The chain began with that first hotel in 1952 and within 20 years hit 1,400 Holiday Inns landing Wilson on the cover of Time as “The Nation's Innkeeper.' They would end up owning Harrah's Entertainment, Embassy Suites Hotels, Crowne Plaza, Homewood Suites, and Hampton Inn now sitting with 1,173 hotels. The Ramada would start the next year by Marion Isbell and has now grown to 811 locations. Both of them started their companies due to the crappy hotels that were found on the sides of roads, barely a step above those founded in the medieval days. Howard Johnson took a different path, starting with soda shops then restaurants and opening his first hotel in 1954, expanding to 338 at this point, and now owned by Wyndham Hotels, a much later entrant into the hotel business. Wyndham also now owns Ramada. The 1980s led to a third boom in hotels with globalization, much like it was the age of globalization for other brands and industries. The oil boom in the Middle East, the rising European Union, the opening up of Asian markets. And as they grew, they used computers to build software to help and cut costs and enable loyalty programs. It was an explosion of money and profits and as the 80s gave way to the 90s, the Internet gave customers the ability to comparison shop and the rise of various sites that aggregated hotel information, with Expedia, Travelocity, American Express, even Concur rising - sites came and went quickly and made it easy for AccorHotels to research and then buy Raffles, Sofitel, Novotel and for Intercontinental and others to user in the era of acquisitions and mergers. Meanwhile the Internet wasn't just about booking hotels at chains easily. VRBO began in 1995 when David Clouse wanted to rent his condo in Breckenridge and got sick of classifieds. Seeing the web on the rise, he built a website and offered subscriptions to rent properties for vacations, letting owners and renters deal directly with one another to process payments. Vacation Rentals By Owner, or VRBO would expand through the 90s. And then Paris Hilton happened. Her show The Simple Life in 2003 led to a 5 year career that seemed to fizzle at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2008 with the release of a critical documentary of her called Paris, Not France. The mergers and acquisitions and globalization and being packed in stale smokey rooms like sardines seemed to have run its course. Boutique hotels were opening, a trend that started in the 90s and by 2008 W Hotels was expanding into Europe, now with 55 properties around the world. And that exemplifies what some of this backlash was against big chains that was starting to brew. In 2004, CEH Holdings bought a few websites to start HomeAway.com and in 2006 raised $160 million in capital to buy VRBO and gain access to their then 65,000 properties. homeaway.com would be acquired by Expedia in 2015 for $3.9 billion, but not before a revolution in the hospitality industry began. That revolution started with 2 industrial design students. Brian Chesky and Joe Gebbia had come from the Rhode Island School of Design. After graduation Gebbia would move to San Francisco and Chesky would move to Los Angeles. They had worked on projects together in college and Gebbia bugged Chesky about moving to San Francisco to start a company together for a few years. By 2007 Chesky gave in and made the move, becoming one of Gebbia's two roommates. It was the beginning of the Great Recession. They were having trouble making rent. The summer of 2008 brought the Industrial Designers Society of America's Industrial Design Conference to San Francisco. They had the idea to take a few air beds from a recent camping trip and rent them out in their apartment. Paris Hilton would never have done that. They reached out to a former roommate of theirs, Nathan Blecharczyk. He's a Harvard alum and pretty rock solid programmer and signed on to be a co-founder, building them a website in Ruby on Rails. They rented those three airbeds out and called their little business airbedandbreakfast.com. They thought they were on to something. I mean, who wouldn't want to rent an airbed and crash on someone's kitchen floor?!?! But reality was about to come calling. Venture capital was drying up due to the deepening recession. They tried to raise funding and failed. And so far their story seems pretty standard. But this is where I start really liking them. They bought a few hundred boxes of cereal and made '"Obama O's" and "Cap'n McCain's" to sell at the Democratic National Convention in 2008 for $40 per box. They sold $30,000 worth, enough to bootstrap the company. They would go to South By South West and visit events, growing slowly in New York and San Francisco. The money would last them long enough to make it into Y Combinator in 2009. Paul Graham and the others at Y Combinator has helped launch 2,000 companies, including Docker, DoorDash, Dropbox, GitLab, Gusto, Instacart, Reddit, Stripe, Twitch, and Zapier. They got $20,000 from Y Combinator. They changed the site to airbnb.com and a people started to book more and more stays - and not just with airbeds, but rending their full homes out. They charged 3% of the booking as a fee - a number that hasn't really changed in all these years. They would get $600,000 in funding from Sequoia Capital in 2009 when they finally got up to 2,500 listings and had 10,000 users. Nothing close to what homeaway.com had, but they would get more funding from Sequoia and added Greylock to the investors and by the close of 2010 they were approaching a million nights booked. From here, the growth got meteoric. They won the app award during a triumphant return to South By South West in 2011 and went international, opening an office in London and expanding bookings to 89 countries. The investments, the advertising, the word of mouth, the media coverage. So much buzz and so much talk about innovation and disruption. The growth was explosive. They would iterate the website and raised another $112 million dollars in venture capital. And by 2012 they hit 10 million nights booked. And that international's expansion paid off with well over half being outside of the United States. Growth of course led to problems. A few guests trashed their lodgings and Airbnb responded with a million dollar policy to help react to those kinds of things in the future. Some of the worse aspects of humanity can be seen on the web. They also encountered renters trying to discriminate based on race. So they updated their policies and took a zero tolerance approach. More importantly, they responded that they didn't have to think of such things given the privilege of having a company founded by three white guys. They didn't react with anger or displacement. They said we need to be better, with every problem that came up. And the growth continued. Doubling every year. They released a new logo and branding in 2014 and by 2016 were valued at $30 billion dollars. They added Trips, which seems to still be trying to catch up to what Groupon started doing for booking excursions years ago. During the rise of AirBNB we saw an actual increase in hotel profits. Customers are often millennials who are traveling more and more, given the way that the friction and some of the cost has been taken out of travel. The average age of a host is 43. And of the hosts I know, I can wager that Airbnb rentals have pumped plenty of cash back into local economies based on people taking better care of their homes, keeping fresh paint, and the added tourism spend when customers are exploring new cities. And not just visiting chains. After all, you stay at Airbnb for the adventure, not to go to shop for the same stuff at Forever 21. Even if you take out the issues with guests trashing places and racism, it still hasn't all been sunshine and unicorns. AirBNB has been in legal battles with New York and a few other cities for years. Turns out that speculators and investors cause extra strain on an already over-burdened housing market. If you want to see the future of living in any dense population center, just look to New York. As the largest city in the US, it's also the largest landlord of any public institution with over 400,000 tenants. And rent is rising almost twice as fast as incomes with lower income rents going up faster than those of the wealth. Independent auditors claim that AirBNB is actually accountable for 9.2 percent of that. But 79 percent of hosts use their Airbnb earnings to afford their apartments. And if many of the people that count on AirBNB to make their rent can't afford their apartments. AirBNB argues their goal is to have “one host, one home” which is to say they don't want a lot of investors. After all, will most investors want to sit around the kitchen table and talk about the history of the city or cool tidbits about neighborhoods. Probably not. AirBNB was started to offer networking opportunities and a cool place to stay that isn't quite so… sterile. Almost the opposite of Paris Hilton's life, at least according to TMZ and MTV shows. San Francisco and a number of other cities have passed ordinances as well, requiring permits to rent homes through AirBNB and maximizing the number of days a home can be rented through the service, often to about two thirds of a year. But remember, AirBNB is just the most visible but not the only game in town. Most category leaders have pre-existing competition, like VRBO and HomeAway. And given the valuation and insane growth of AirBNB, it's also got a slew of specialized competitors. This isn't to say that they don't contribute to the problems with skyrocketing housing costs. They certainly do. As is often the case with true disruptors, Pandora's Box is open and can't be closed again. Regulation will help to limit the negative impacts of the disruption but local governments will alienate a generation that grew up with a disruption if they are overly-punitive. And most of the limits in place are easily subverted anyways. For example, if there's a limit on the number of nights you can rent, just do half on VRBO and the other half on Airbnb. But no matter the problems, AirBNB continues to grow. They react well. Gebbia, now the CEO, has a deep pipeline of advisors he can call on in times of crisis. Whether corporate finance, issues with corporate infighting, crisis management, or whatever the world throws at them, the founders and the team they've surrounded themselves with have proven capable of doing almost anything. Today, AirBNB handles over half a million transactions per night. They are strongest with millineals, but get better and better at expanding out of their core market. One adjacency would be corporate bookings through a partnership with Concur and others, something we saw with Uber as well. Another adjacency. They now make more money than the Hilton and Hilton subsidiaries. Having said that, the major hotel chains are all doing better financially today than ever before and continue to thrive maybe despite, or maybe because AirBNB. That might be misleading though, revenue per room is actually decreasing correlative to the rise of AirBNB. And of course that's amplified at the bottom tier of hotels. Just think of what would have happened had they not noticed that rooms were selling out for a conference in 2007. Would what we now call the “sharing” economy be as much a thing? Probably. Would someone else have seized the opportunity? Probably. But maybe not. And hopefully the future will net a more understanding and better connected society once we've all get such intimate perspectives on different neighborhoods and the amazing little ecosystems that humanity has constructed all over the world. That is the true disruption: in an age of global sterility, offering the most human of connections. As someone who loves staying in quirky homes on Airbnb, a very special thanks to Chesky, Gebbia, Blecharczyk, and the many, many amazing people at Airbnb. Thank you for reacting the way you do to problems when they arise. Thank you for caring. Thank you for further democratizing and innovating hospitality and experiences. And most importantly, thank you for that cabin by the lake a few months ago. That was awesome! And thanks to the listeners who tuned in to this episode, of the History of Computing Podcast. Have a great day!
On today’s show we’re looking at some of the recently announced or completed hotel conversion projects. These projects are happening all over the country. Hotel News Now maintains an online database of all the hotel conversions that are announced across the United States. You can download the entire excel spreadsheet and look at the details of each project. In 2019, there were a total of 47 hotel conversion projects across the US. So far in 2020, seven hotel conversion projects have been announced across the country. On today’s show we’re going to showcase a few of those conversions to give a flavour for the types of projects that are getting funded in today’s environment. Some of the hotel conversions are merely a refresh of an old and tired hotel, along with rebranding the property with a stronger brand. There are a few examples where a property switched from a Quality Inn to a Ramada. The Vegas Hard Rock Hotel is now going to be a Hilton Curio Collection property. Some went from a private label like Turnberry in Miami to the JW Marriott brand. In one case, an Intercontinental hotel in Milwaukee Wisconsin removed the brand affiliation and chose to go the independent route. The improvements in a hotel conversion go beyond a fresh coat of paint, rectangular floor tiles and quartz counters in the bathroom. Today’s traveler wants the best of both worlds. They appreciate the unique experience that comes from staying in a boutique hotel. It’s far more memorable for a visitor to stay in a hotel with art deco interior, Venetian chandeliers and brass handrails on the stairs, than telling friends and family that they stayed at a nondescript Holiday Inn. But travellers also want the security of knowing that the property will adhere to international hotel standards for comfort and amenities. This is where the major hotel companies have been launching so many new brands. In particular, they’ve been launching brands that allow for boutique hotels to maintain the brand strength of the parent brand whether it’s Hilton or Hyatt, while embracing the unique aspects of the property. For example, Baywood Hotels purchased the downtown 14 story Oil and Gas office building with a plan to convert the property into a 175 key Canopy by Hilton hotel. This building was built in the 1950’s and was given heritage status in recent years. The hotel plans to open in 2021 after an extensive refit which was started this month. It’s hard to start with an old bank, or a post office and make that hotel conversion meet the specifications of a Hampton Inn. In fact, it would be silly to try. It would create confusion in the marketplace. The Hampton Inn brand would add very little value to a unique boutique property. When you are starting with an existing building and you would like to incorporate the history or the unique characteristics of the area into the building, it needs a distinguishing name that is in keeping with the character of the neighborhood. At the same time, travellers want to know that they can expect a fridge and coffee machine in the room, that there will be a safe for their valuables, a place to charge their electronic devices, the bed will be comfortable and that they will have high speed internet service for free with their hotel loyalty program membership. All of these things come with being associated with a major brand in one of the new boutique collection hotels. While these boutique hotels make up a small percentage of the overall portfolio of hotels in the market, they are a growing trend. The boutique hotels don’t demand all of the same architectural specifications that a brand like Sheraton might require. So the construction cost can be lower in a lot of cases. Those savings make for a more profitable hotel while maintaining the brand strength.

Live recording from January 1985 of my band performing our cover of The Tracker, a John Hadley song recorded by Country Gazette on their album "All This And Money, Too." The Gazette version changes key for the musical outro. We couldn't pull that off. I believe this recording is a direct output to tape from the PA head. For about 6 months we had a weekly Thursday night gig at the restaurant/bar attached to the Quality Inn in Bowie, Maryland. It was some time during this run that we changed our name from Takoma Valley Band to Nothin' Hokey. Why, I'll never know.

As the snow melts in Bayfield County, and our rivers and streams are at their highest, spring is the best time to make a trip out of visiting the waterfalls in northern Wisconsin. Director of Bayfield County Tourism Mary Motiff describes the tallest and most picturesque waterfalls and introduces the new brochure that includes maps and descriptions of the waterfalls in this episode or Bayfield County Wild. Plus, Co-host Nancy Christopher talks with Ryan Brady, a conservation biologist, about birding and why it’s so popular in Bayfield County. Flowing Falls There are more than 20 waterfalls in northern Wisconsin within Ashland, Bayfield, Douglas and Iron Counties. Iron County has the most, followed by Bayfield County with five waterfalls. The tallest is Big Manitou Falls in Douglas County. Mary says it would take a good week to explore and hike all 20 of them, but you can make multiple trips and see one or two at a time. A new brochure is now available that features all of the waterfalls with photos, descriptions and an overview map to make the most of your journey. You can order the brochure online at www.travelbayfieldcounty.com The Best Birding is in Bayfield County A conservation biologist and bird monitoring coordinator for the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, Ryan Brady says his life is for the birds…literally. Ryan talks about the world’s #1 sport, birding, and its significance in Bayfield County. According to Ryan, this is one of the best regions in the U.S. to spot birds because of the wide variety of habitats. Bayfield County has water, wetlands, shorelines, grasslands, forests and even Pine Barrens, which are globally unique. Plus, a lot of this is public land where people can come and enjoy the birds along with all the trails and other wildlife you might see. Spring is Ryan’s favorite time for birding because the birds are singing and in their most colorful plumage. This time of year, we see lots of migrating birds and waterfowl such as sandhill cranes, swans and blue heron, followed by insect-eating birds like the Orioles. Bayfield has seen an increase in several bird species, including Bald Eagles, Peregrine Falcons, Trumpeter Swans, Turkeys and Canadian Geese. Among the declining species are the Eastern Whippoorwill, the common Night Hawk, Evening Grosbeaks and Meadowlarks, Bobolinks and grassland birds. The decline in these species is mostly because of changes in habitat. Bayfield County has seen some rare species like the Whooping Crane, Piping Plovers, Scissortail Flycatchers and Lewis’ Woodpeckers. The rarest, however, were the Wilson’s Plover, Tropical Kingbird and Ross Gull, which has only been seen once in 2001 and comes all the way from the Arctic and Bering Sea. Ryan says there are things we can do to draw more birds to our backyards. Birds are looking for water, food and shelter, so he recommends having water bird fountains and shallow ponds. Planting trees, shrubs and other plants will help to attract insects and arthropods as food sources. Brush piles are also great for providing natural shelters for birds. If you would like to get involved in helping birds, Ryan also recommends a number of clubs and associations that encourage membership like the Wisconsin Bird Conservation Initiative and Wisconsin Audobahn Chapters. You can also become a volunteer by getting involved in one of Wisconsin’s many citizen science projects. Lastly, if you are already birding, you can share your bird counting on Ebird.org or get involved in the 2019 Great Wisconsin Birdathon by either collecting pledges or simply donating to the cause. Birding & Nature Festival For 13 years, the Northern Great Lakes Visitors Center has been hosting the Chequamegon Bay Birding & Nature Festival. This year’s event is being held May 16-18. The festival offers 3 days of birding and nature activities on the southern shore of Lake Superior at the peak of spring migration. On this episode of Bayfield County Wild, Director of Bayfield County Tourism, Mary Motiff, gives listeners all the tools to start researching Bayfield County’s 30-plus campgrounds. Co-host Nancy Christopher talks with Dede Eckels about her family’s legacy in the Bayfield Peninsula Arts movement and Mary ends the episode with a round-up of great events in February and a preview of what to expect in March. Camping This Summer? Start planning now. Mary says the tourism department has three great tools to help visitors research their favorite campgrounds. First, the TravelBayfieldCounty.com website has a graphic link to an interactive map on the home page that can help you locate campgrounds and visualize where they are in relation to the communities throughout Bayfield County. If you know what campground you are looking for, the website also has a business directory that is searchable by name, by area, or by topic. The listings have descriptions and contact information for each campground including links to their websites. Plus, Mary’s office has just updated its camping brochure which lists all of the campgrounds in the area by type (County, Municipal, Private, National Park Service, US Forest Service). You can choose from very rustic, wilderness-type camps that you’ll find on the Apostle Islands or full-service campgrounds with all the amenities like at Legendary Waters Resort & Casino. If you are interested in reserving campsites with the national park system, reservations can be made now at recreation.gov or wait until April to reserve sites at County campgrounds. The family business was started by Dede’s dad, Bob Eckels, and Glenn Nelson in 1960. Then called Eckels Pottery, the studio was affectionately nicknamed “the Pot Shop.” The building was moved to Bayfield in 1962, where it remains today. Bob Eckels was hired by Northland College to start an arts department. A potter, sculptor and jeweler, Eckels was a key player in the growth of the arts movement on the Bayfield Peninsula. He was deeply involved with the Bayfield Chamber, started the Tri-State Art Fair (now the Bayfield Festival of Arts) and helped start the Bayfield Artist Guild. He also established an arts apprenticeship program which drew students from all over the country. He ran the shop until his death in 2004. Dede followed in her father’s steps, becoming a talented potter and owner of the gallery. For more than 40 years, she has made functional, one-of-a-kind pieces and is most known for her signature wildlife and Northwoods imagery. Dede is always experimenting with new glazes and techniques while working with porcelain clay and she describes the process for us in enough detail to give us a true sense of how much work goes into each piece. Dede loves to create very involved surfaces that actually become small paintings on functional pottery. After an initial firing in the kiln and further artistry, the piece undergoes a second firing before it is finally finished. When Dede married her husband, Pete, the gallery underwent a major change - the couple started to invite other artists to showcase their work in the gallery. No longer just pottery, the gallery now includes jewelry, garden sculptures, wood carvings and hand-blown glass, so the name was changed to Eckels Pottery and Fine Craft Gallery. Every summer, Dede and Pete open their studio during Arts Week in Bayfield (the week prior to the Festival of Arts in July) to teach the public the Raku technique of how to decorate, glaze and fire pottery that they can actually take with them when they leave that day. Raku was a process originated by Korean potters. It was later adopted by the Japanese to make Raku cups for their tea ceremonies. In the 1950s and 60s, Raku was “Americanized.” Dede loves the Raku process because its results are immediate, turning clay into a beautiful piece of pottery in just two hours. Eckels Pottery and Fine Craft Gallery is located on the south end of the Bayfield city limits. You can’t miss it because there is a giant stoneware jug, weighing two tons, out front. For more information about the gallery, you can visit the new website at Eckelspottery.com. Episode 141 of the Jason & Scot show was recorded on Tuesday, August 7th from the eTail East tradeshow in Boston. http://jasonandscot.com Join your hosts Jason "Retailgeek" Goldberg, SVP Commerce & Content at SapientRazorfish, and Scot Wingo, Founder and Executive Chairman of Channel Advisor as they discuss the latest news and trends in the world of e-commerce and digital shopper marketing. Transcript Jason: [0:25] Welcome to the Jason and Scott show this episode is being recorded live at the e'tae least trade show in Sunny Boston on Tuesday August 7th I'm your host Jason retailgeek Goldberg unfortunately Scott had a personal conflict and wasn't able to make this show so you guys are stuck with just me but we have some great guess this week and first up we are excited to have dr. Laura's mark delete from cooked tail on the show or as is head of Behavioral research cook tail and she's going to share some fascinating psychological research that that she's been conducting about online Shoppers and their behaviors welcome to the show with us. Liraz: [1:10] Thank you I'm very blessed to be here. Jason: [1:12] The president Charlie R's one thing I was like to do to get things started on the show is just for a little bit of background about the guest so maybe you could take just a minute and tell us how you came into the doesn't seem like online marketing is necessary the first place you think of her psychology. Liraz: [1:29] So interesting the fact that there is no such a degree in web sites out or web psychology or digital say Call of Duty and people keep coming to me and ask, how can I become a psychologist and there is no one answer so for me I have a PhD in Psychology. Specialize in decision-making processes and cognition also Game Theory and over the past 5 years I've been utilizing model from cognitive psychology neuropsychology and behavioral economics how we can understand and identify customers behavior and did you deter work because we know that there is a slight difference and you don't like it's not so slide, there are differences between how people behave online and in the physical world and they are communicating frankly even their personality trait. James like if someone is an extrovert become an introvert and vice versa so I think there is a huge need to understand how people behave in those Windows media and those Arenas so a disability. Jason: [2:37] That's very cool and I'm excited to dig into it before we go too deep maybe we should tell our listeners just a little bit about cooked tail for anyone that's not for me. Liraz: [2:45] Sure she looks so cute Bella is an experience analytics company so what we do is that we, how to analyze and understand the customers Behavior the motivation for example what makes them motivate them to purchase certain products and why they would has it, before clicking on a call to action their Journey at the differences we can have different Behavior patterns we're talking about, thousands of visitors all together so we can take a view of individual visitor of thousands of visitors all together and this is how we can have heat inside into what's going on in your mind before deciding to purchase or to leave website or what is there Experian. Jason: [3:32] Wonderful in the way I sort of think of it there's lots of tools out there that I'll call Page analytics tools that sort of keep track of how I consumer moves from page to page and what unique about could tell as in my mind you were one of the very first tools that were what I'll call on page Analytics and you could actually see all the micro behaviors of the consumer wow they're spending time on a page so are they you know are they scrolling are they hovering I mean not I know there's a small part of it but like. Gray superficially I think people always think about the heat maps and understanding where like the real fold is on the page how far down is the consumer really going. Liraz: [4:10] Exactly so there is a common mistake that we are a heat map company goes much deeper than heatmap so if you think about it I can understand how you feel I can understand what you are going to remember from The Experience only based on how you interacted with the different pages I can under, if you're going through shift from positive to negative negative to positive and I can take, into consideration all your behaviors and actually see who you are or your personality traits are you crying to mine said so there is a whole lot of things we can detect only based on your micro-level behavior. Jason: [4:49] I feel like I'm never going shopping again I love online shopping and now I'm terrified that all my deepest secrets are going to be revealed by my my my mouse behavior. Liraz: [4:58] It's so now it's all I have. Jason: [4:59] Just made me very self-conscious. Liraz: [5:02] I have actually I can use it up for you because I don't care where you are I mean I care a lot about you. Like from we can we are not going to save the information about you the gender only based on what you doing what you did online so that's it and it means that I don't know who you are I can only see what you're doing online. Jason: [5:26] And that is it that is another interesting thing like a lot of times when people think about personalization or even, I I care more about relevancy necessary then personalization they think about like storing and collecting data and knowing who is user is individually and accumulating more insight that you can somehow use to change the experience one of the things that's that's cool about this field is you can use kind of contextual signals in a single session so I can be entirely Anonymous Shopper or shopper you've never before and you can instantly start getting some signals you can use to make the experience more relevant for her. Liraz: [6:03] Exactly exactly so is I look at it ice I've used the language model meaning that at the bottom of the mother we have the letters of course so these are like. Peaks and espola to have hers and then you go one level up and then we can talk about words for example if you click and butt before you click to hezzy. So I will call it hesitation are you at school really fast or really slow and then at the app we have the mindset for example if you are gorgeous. So I would see a direct action and then click so meaning that you know exactly what you're looking for and how to accomplish. On the website so I can actually understand your mindset if your focus if you're frustrated so this is like the the sentences in Thai language. Jason: [6:51] Very cool and it's this is maybe a silly analogy but the the expanse I feel like Moe's online consumers have had that makes this sort of apparent is the the little button I am not a robot. Right and everything goes well that's stupid like if I were a robot I would be able to quit that. I am in what what you're not realizing is that that which it is watching how you move your mouse, the button and the the unique way that a human being moves the mouse is different than the perfectly linear way and I'll order them is likely to do a. Liraz: [7:26] This is the magic word actually the house because actually my whole research is focus on the how customers behave and not what you're doing and also you know there are many many companies today. Dad or like your your detect that you use bad. I think that it doesn't matter because you know 70% of our day-to-day interactions are actually based on nonverbal signals meaning. Hope you're saying to one another so I can ask you if you like to come over and you will say yes because you are being polite but from the way you say from how you say I can infer that you really don't like to come over so it's about our body gestures and her facial expression when we're talking about the physical world but when were talking about the online it is also about the how is that it as you described right now. Jason: [8:14] Yeah it's super exciting let's jump right into it now you've done for the three big areas of research and I want at least be able to touch on all of the the first one is when we talk turn it down on the show we talk about this thing we call the mobile Gap right and in general you got all the traffic on the web is predominantly moving to mobile devices but if you're an e-commerce site people don't tend to shop as frequently and successfully on mobile devices that used to on desktop so you so that's a scary Trend and we're always talking about how sides can do better what we can fix in the customer experience and you know frankly you have a chance to settle up our way in on his dispute Scott and I always have without putting words in Scott's mouth while he's not here but he's not here so I might as well. He thinks some of that Gap is in friends and that it just harder to shop on mobile devices in the screens last. Liraz: [9:08] I would like technical issues. Jason: [9:10] Yeah not all of it I don't think you would say but I think he would you know just say hey it's West convenient and and I argue that a lot of it is inferior experiences and execution that as we get better we can remediate and and that we should expect to see. The mobile Gap certain Arab so I love to hear your perspective on that and tell us tell us a little bit about the study and what you learned. Liraz: [9:36] So yeah I'm sorry Scott but I will have to go with you or with your assumptions about it, if I say we we are calling it The Mobile man mindset meaning that I think exactly as you described we have a different mindset as we go on mobile and if you think about it it is done unconsciously it start with her body posture meaning that when you when you browse. Add to desktop when you add to your table to your straight up so he's actually affect who you are what you think what you do and when we on our mobile device where usually on the go and for us I would mobile we have an association between our Mobile in our social social life and we are. Conscious about about what we do and that is why we like to buy more precious thing on the mobile and you know our mobile is like an extension of our body so we treated completely differently you know. I thought that was conducted about people how they treat their mobile they found it if I will give you my mobile people we always start being jealous at you for touching my mobile if they make us feel more emotional about her mobile so also it from wanting that we have discovered is the three of you in completely different types of corn. [11:04] Lake Murray Sports Bar social media on our mobile Facebook and Instagram for for Generation Z and the desktop so. Most of us will also feel most secure like to complete the purchase so like there is a processing cycle you start with your mobile your brows for things and you landed at your desk but they also because we feel more emotional. When we are holding our mobile so we will be more people's purchaser meaning we we are not going to think about it too much we're not going to use a rational system because you know we have two different systems operating in or my system 1 system too so system to is the rational system. [11:50] And 61 is the emotional it is more at o matic so it is based on war base you don't. Too much so this is exactly how you behave on your mobile you don't, too much you play out of habit so this is a habit forming most of the mobile website or the mobile apps these are habit-forming apps and when you are like you lost yourself you don't think too much so that is why we will buy more I will be engaging more impulse purchase and for the desktop we are more self-aware and we are price-conscious and the reason address, because you have this big screen so so are exactly is called said so because you have this big screen this is an illusion that you can see clearly you can see all the details so I'll for some people most for the elderly guys out if they feel like they feel more safe to purchase order this. Jason: [12:48] Very cool and so and I imagine it's all somewhat relative like so for example I always talk about how in ux design Everyone likes to, to act very rational right and you know my promise is the overwhelming majority of all purchase decisions are made with that fast system they're made with the irrationals not that I work the subconscious portion of our brain and and so what you're saying is on the mobile device it's even more so. Into one of my takeaways from that is what you there's been this big Trend and they slightly misused word but we'll talk responsive-design like one one experience and it's just kind of fluid in a liquid so it can, Flex to fit a big desktop screen or small Mobile screen and well that's certainly better than have any experience that doesn't fit the screen it's probably not the optimal experience because your point, there there could be more emotional triggers that I want to deliver to someone on that mobile device and there might be more. Rational objective information that I want to deliver to that. Liraz: [13:56] Yeah definitely that's what I keep saying to our client it's not about the designer design shouldn't be different what you'd be different is the content. Contact because on the mobile we are on the ghost so mostly we are not, to be interested in all the details and information we want to to see images we want to be to have an access to the information and we want the more emotional con. Like like for example if you're talking about our social media so we want to be connected to our social media we want to know what my friend bought before me but on the desktop this is completely different on the desktop you want to review all the details, very carefully we want to have access to two Idol reviews so yeah it's not about the design it's about the content to be completely different and it should feed our minds at her mobile or desktop. Jason: [14:49] Yeah that's pretty cool until I think of that is sort of like on the desktop I might want a deep dive into all the reviews in the numerical rating. On the mobile I want to see a picture of the person from my social network that I know that that bought this product and had a good outcome yeah that's that's super interesting and exciting part of me it's sad because I feel like most designers work on these super expensive giant monitors and if anything they they did say their best most emotional visual experience is. For the big screen and then when they say hey what's the mobile experience they're like oh it's much smaller I'm just going to give him a thumbnail and give him. Attacks and and what you're funny cuz that's exactly opposite of the. Contacts to the user very interesting I can talk about mobile with you all day but I'm super interested to Diamond to the the next two studies and the next one that we were talking about is this. I think it's a huge opportunity for people to improve their customer experience it's shopping stress. Liraz: [15:56] Exactly so you know there are different tips to the shopping stress there different finding so first we know that for some of us, is like an addiction it's like you like to go shopping the same as you like to smoke it's relaxing and fun and you get to forget about yourself and just be like. When you play a mobile repair like mobile game so for some people it is exactly the same mostly women but. [16:25] I also some men that like to shop ever. Although we know that is supposed to be fun and enjoyable it can be all so it can also be stressful especially when we're talking about the checkout process and especially for men because what we have found that you that we can we have. [16:44] Different mindset for men and for women I think the differences between how men shop and how woman chokes is extremely important here. Because we said that men they want to find what they want to go shopping they know what they want. Ahead of time and they want to find it as quickly as possible looking for similarly related items and they are a price conscious and it's not about the fun it's not about the pleasure fat woman it's not about the end result so we found it sometime woman will enjoy the process itself they derive pleasure from The Experience they say calf and sensory stimulation when they are shopping so it's all about applying the associative thinking so they can start with I don't know why I baby back in skin care and they will find out go find himself they're going shopping for bags for example, so it's all about the pleasure in the fan and the association so you can see why it is less stressful for women if you are going to focus on the experience itself but for men if you are looking for something and you cannot find it especially play in the holiday season or if you really need something so then it become pretty stressful. Jason: [18:00] And it is interesting to me I often feel like the best opportunities to improve experiences and in increase conversion is shockingly sometimes it lasts about. More tools for task completion in more about this stress avoidance that like the low-hanging fruit is usually what can I take. Out of the experience that's causing the stressors and releasing like all those hormones into the bot like it's it's a. Liraz: [18:30] Espressos yeah exactly because what we see is the people the designer for example about the customer State of Mind what do you need like what would I need to find out they don't think about the actual experience so let me give you one example we found that the most stressful thing for some people is that they are entering a voucher or there is a voucher and they don't have it so they keep comparing himself to the other people because we are all engaging social comparison so oh my God. I could have this item in the lower price and I can't have it even if it is even if it is not so we need to think about this ecology over customers because those types of things they are what make them stressed. Jason: [19:22] Yes and that that particular use cases a huge pet peeve because not only is it it hideous it's at the exact wrong point it's at the very end of that purchase. They're 99% of the way through and you just said a new anchor change their pricing perception and made them feel like they're stupid if they make this purchase. Without a and none of us none of us like to feel that way another one that I talk a lot about is just the underlying Speed and Performance of the the site and it's shocking to me how much stress it induces just when the page loads slow or a button someone clicks. Liraz: [20:01] Because you feel wasn't what went wrong and oh my God what about my money because whenever it comes to your money because if you think about it. Long I mean of course we have the internet for many years now but still like the money is going somewhere we cannot see it's not like we can feel the actual money so everything about what's going on with the transaction can make a really really stressful even if you just like a slight error and everything because and then even if it was a slight error and everything comes back to normal afterwards we will still. Have a negative feeling about experience this is the. Jason: [20:42] Yeah that memory effect from that so there's a steady out and I'm terrified some was going to do bunk this study because it's one of my favorite studies in the space but they weren't they were studying, the the level of stress induced meant from different experiences and the Baseline was watching a horror movie and and they actually found that like, the average subject was releasing more cortisol and having you no more of a stress reaction to a slow mobile page. And watching a horror movie and I think that's hysterical like the most talented creative people in the world that are intentionally trying to stress you out. Just having a slow web page can accomplish the same experience on the part of the user. Liraz: [21:28] Exactly and you know what's the interest another interesting finding was that when I talkin about the holiday season so when you need. To buy to buy something you will feel much more stressful and then we can see more at disoriented behavior and because when we shop about a stand when any told about the van and we don't have a certain purpose purchasing then it could be relaxing and fun and we can avoid everything else in the neighborhood but when we need to do something it becomes press for, and we need to pay it. Jason: [22:00] And again like when you're getting practical advice to people and you're saying like so maybe that that best experience during a particularly task-oriented season like like a holiday season or your big annual sale needs to be different than the browsing experience that. Yeah any other like cheap pieces of advice that you give clients based on the emotion research. Liraz: [22:24] Yeah based on day is stress research so we know that we were actually analyze how men and women shop and we found that men that don't like the broad selection and Foot Woman if they don't have the road selection it's like they did in the if for example I'm going to buy seven jeans and I find exactly what I wanted like the exact same size as the exact course I will feel a frustrated because. It so if it's all about the shopping I like to have a road selection it's part of the fun to try it out in the brake and rotors service also when I talkin about the online experiences we need to have the accessories and we need to have a broad selection and we need something that fits the hours to see a patient so are we really need to create a different experience for men. Jason: [23:14] That that's super interesting and like so there's this a book in a principle that's out there in that a lot of women are familiar with the Paradox of choice right I think Dan ariely. Yeah and. Really smart guy lots of super interesting insides I feel like that particular inside is now. It has been difficult to repeat like that the whole notion that that the original test for westerners it maybe don't know is you bring a shopper to a Shelf with a bunch of jellies on it and if there's more. Liraz: [23:52] 54 vs 6 the word to two flavors are like they were trying to have the septic station of gems so in the grocery store that was at 21st flavors of jam and only six people of course came to the 24 but when I talking about how many purchase. Purchase three times more only six flavors. Jason: [24:18] Which is fascinating right inside the original inside there was. Liraz: [24:22] But this is Walden Diner really this is what she not anger but yeah he's talking about yourself. Jason: [24:27] Yeah he is talking about her study and he made it very popular by writing a consumer book and any is very approachable and joy is his reading quite a bit but. The takeaway from there was like oh my gosh Apple they have 47 different kinds of laptops and when Steve Jobs made them normalize it down to three laptops it reduce a lot of shopping stress and did all these things and and they sold a lot more and so they were suddenly this huge Trend towards curation. And I think what we've seen in further studies is there are context in which, that that affect is very real. Your point you know from the differences between men and women. Liraz: [25:08] Exactly depends but not for everyone. Jason: [25:10] Text where it's actually a mistake to assume that curation is. Liraz: [25:15] So it's all about Sigmund Tatian is all about I mean when I talk about personalization what is prisonization it's actually the realization that we have different types of customers so we have to provide them with different types of experiences and you know the two words that I hate the most in all these, online arena is. What are best practices we have a common basis for everyone we don't we don't we need to treat everyone as an individual and on state taste and this is the opposite of press. Jason: [25:54] Yeah but the actual technical definition of best practices is whatever I say. I'm totally teasing yeah but you're course right right in and it's I mean that's a cognitive bias to write like the clients are overwhelmed with all these decisions that they have to make and sometimes it just easier to Advocate some of these decisions and say hey what have people done before. And had a good outcome and what they don't understand is there's an unlimited number of variables that affected that outcome that are not the same. Liraz: [26:27] Sometimes you're not aware of all these variables. Jason: [26:29] Can't be in many cases it's it's it's fascinating but still for my clients just feel free to just take my advice. And is my clients hopefully no I don't recommend that either right like it's interesting to have hypothesis is but like it's it's really good to test those and pierpoint the old model of one-size-fits-all something and then you know that's why I like frankly we had all this a b testing and multivariate testing in the world for a long time and there's this interesting phenomenon. Conversions no better than it was 10 years ago everything regresses to the mean in mini case. And part of it's because the the experience that succeeded for Shopper age does not succeed for sure. Liraz: [27:16] And it's not only that because if you actually mentioned maybe says there is not a problem with a B test because when I talk to designers or two product analyst and they're trying out some tests they don't really have the notion. Maybe like the evidence we should maybe three work maybe it's not but it's not based on a committee the Samsung it's not based on psychological research and at the end of the day we are dealing with human being so it's not about okay so I have an idea let's try that it's about how people will behave in about reading the secret vehicle research and I know that you don't have time for this but it will at the end of the day of the long run we save you so much. Jason: [27:56] Yeah and it and then side note because most people are using his test to validate a preference rather than actually learn permit test like they're all so they're there generally the math is horribly flawed and people don't don't use proper sample sizes in the Simpson but we don't have time to talk about that you have a third study which I've only recently just wondering about an emotion so tell us about that. Liraz: [28:22] Right so we know that for example in the reported first a reason to release day Road brands that want to break away from the pack should focus on emotions, and you know what the part is I like the most is how an experience makes customer feel is a big influence on the loyalty to abandon Effectiveness series of using nearly every industry. And you know what we know it's not only Foster over the past five years we have been hearing about the significant fall off emotions and driving engagement and experience and brand awareness organization. No one really knows and no one really tells you how what is the mechanism behind it you know what's the relationship between emotions and experiences and how emotions can be utilized to drive digital experiences so this is exactly what we said to do and what you need to ask is how our brain, memorizes daily experiences and what do we need to be discussing his emotion emotion as a gateway to our memory. [29:23] Let me check with you a personal storage is to demonstrate it so it was a few minutes ago we were sitting in your family after Friday family dinner we were sitting in the living room and then my oldest daughter she turns to me and asked how we met her daddy so I told her the story I told her that I went because of my friends to a dance club and as we entered the club I saw him standing there the battery cover. And he was so good looking and then we went to the dance floor started dancing and after a few flat it looks he came over cancel my friend and ask if he can see me away from them. [29:57] And this is how we talk again and he is there sitting there listening to me telling the story and says oh my God liraz it was nothing like. [30:05] And for a minute there I was doing. But you wasn't eating and you know today after starting the dynamic nature of our memory I know that you wasn't kidding because our memory is greatly influenced by. Our recurrent mindset and our private stations in our emotions of course and that is why and this is very important lesson it doesn't matter what we need happened to the digital experience what matters is what we're going to remember from The Experience right so in order to study emotions in the digital world we have developed this mother According to which the emotions evoked are the result of our private stations and a recurrent mindset. [30:48] And by private spectation I mean the actual wrong. Interacting with digital work we have developmental model that guide our XP patient is to what to expect from different online experiences and what do I mean by mental model for example you are going to rest. [31:05] You know how to behave you know this need to wait for the hostess first date you know how to behave so we have mental after interacting with him so he's the actual interaction play online interactions meets our expectation it is considered to be an an event and no emotions are involved so for example if I want to buy a certain the product this is what I expected, and that's it but if the actual interaction at least below our expectation meaning that is -2 what we expected then the experience would be associated with a negative emotion however if their experience rises above our expectations then we can do, talk about Peak experiences and delight and then the experience will be associated with a positive emotion so it is extremely important to understand our products spectation in just to give you an example, there's something that we need to understand about our brain a brain did not develop as fast as our technology, in one of the basic human needs is the traffic control and the response to the loss of control is the same and it doesn't matter. [32:20] If you find the jungle fighting for a life if we are trying to possibly the street or if we are on stage in front of a big crowd so recently we have one of our clients music station do analyze the customers behavior on the pages and they were trying to push video content by having them load automatically. [32:36] On your pages so what me so when we observe the behavior is it whenever the customer and to the website and counted the video immediately clicked on the pause button. [32:46] 85% of the customers think I called you the video and click on the start button because clicking on the pulse by then put the control back into their own hands so it's not about the video was click and well-designed it's not about the video it's about our private station and our emotion and you know different emotions affect. Whole different functions today influence information processing in-memory in different ways and it is extremely important to understand it. Jason: [33:16] Andrew thinks of that autoplay video took the control away from me my expectation was birth control so there was this negative Delta of the experience versus my expectation and the. The further the Delta is from the the expectation positive or negative the more likely that emotion is to be preserved in our memory. Liraz: [33:42] I need it depends because if you think about it from ever and evolutionary. Negative experiences are quicker and more likely to form long lasting memories because. It is much more valuable to hold on to those negative experiences and there is something that we need to know about our brains memory system Brands memory system work something like a pen in and out. So for a brief time before the ink dries it's possible to smell what's written. Did the memories Consolidated it changes very little so you need to be self-aware about the emotions that are revoked in your websites and products. Jason: [34:21] Yeah and that's exactly what happened to you and your husband at your meeting right is you you both had this expectation and smudge the memory. The time and now they're heavily imprinted years later and I'm sure your memory was the accurate one by the. The another thing that's odd about that emotional memory that I've heard and tell me if I have this wrong but I've heard that sequence can also have some impact so we've always had this this piece of common advice that like the first and last experience in a a path are more likely to be imprinted in that memory than some of the inner. Yeah okay. Liraz: [34:57] So for example if you go on vacation so when let's say that you are visiting to different states so the shift. Between when you move from one state to another then you're going to print it as well. And I you know the continent has a really great analogy about emotion he says that in one of his letter in the Q&A session there was a man and the man says that he has been listening to Symphony and it was absolutely a glorious music I need the very end of the recording there was a dreadful stretching song, and any of the really quite emotionally it's ruined all experience for me I think about it it hasn't had to experience it had 20 minutes of Glorious music. Accounted for nothing because he was left with a memory the memory was ruined and the memory was hold your garden. Jason: [35:49] Yep and so I think there's even things like I have a three-year-old at home and you know going to the doctor or stressful and they give you all these immunization shots and now they like they give you a dose of sugar. At the end of the shots and I I presume that part of that is so that like the last. Liraz: [36:07] Find Alex. Jason: [36:08] Final experience that kid has is like a nice nice dose of Sugar Rush which I feel like every time I go shopping if someone would just give me a hit of caffeine at the end I feel like that would be a really smart. That's why I think it's interesting cuz I talked with plants a lot about. The the role of brand and Tumi brand works both ways there's a psychologist at Stanford Professor Samsung that does. Is a principle called the absolute value and essentially it's hey brand has often been a surrogate for Quality when we can't judge the quality of products we associate quality with the familiar brand but they didn't the modern world it's much easier to judge, the true quality of products we have access to all this information at our fingertips and in an environment where it's easy to get objective information. Brand becomes less important as a surrogate for Quality Inn. Liraz: [37:06] Yeah I think that it's not about the fact that Brands become less important it's about that people. Meaning of the growing flag of information goods and services the emerging middle in our memory and we cannot separate one brand from another and that is why, when our brain needs to choose a product for my multi to the product that are more that's the same characteristics the deciding factor will always be the emotions that are, so deciding to buy a certain brand has nothing to do with the features of and benefit of that product, think about your own smartphone how many of you can celebrate yours on the differences between your smartphone to the competition maybe if you like, most of us choose based on emotions that are attached to that bread so if there is an association between dead product in a positive emotion you think about the benefit you. You feel and you know Gladwell wrote in his book playing about the emotional shortcut hero they're the only way that you meant being could have ever survived the species for as long as we have, is that we have developed another kind of decision-making apparatus that is capable of making very quick judgment based on very little information, so if you have these emotional shortcut you don't need to think you just need to feel. Jason: [38:25] Yeah exactly and that's always liked it when I do that to Value thing to a very famous brand they're always just hard in like oh my my friends is valuable in and then that's my Counterpoint no brand still has super important roles it's it's a it's a shortcut to these emotions. Liraz: [38:42] Play The Association. Jason: [38:44] I can be permanently associated with these emotions now the one downside of that is the relative to expectations. The expectations. Go up with that brand and then it it becomes increasingly difficult for Apple which is already beloved if they make a product that like disappoints customers in anyway it's a negative association versus. Yeah Samsung where we're at. Liraz: [39:12] Yeah I wouldn't expect too much and yeah and it is very easy to disappoint our customers I think this is the most easiest thing in the world. Jason: [39:21] And in you mention that like you know most of us like pick our phone and couldn't, describe why we we pick it up I would even argue it's worst most people will try to describe it the rationalize it. And not even realize that actually those rational reasons you just ate it had nothing to do. With why you until I always like on the internet where this big Echo chamber and you know you follow my Twitter feed and you'll see thousands of studies and all these studies are like surveys of stated preferences and I hate those two studies because again those are consumers that are rationalizing why they did something instead of observed study. Liraz: [39:59] Yeah we keep seeing these in psychological studies there is a God. People weekly inhabited really feel and you know what it's not because you're lying to you. Not lying it's because we just don't have it true regarding what motivates our behavior and there is a great experiment that was recently conducted the demonstrated so customers brainware scan using fmri device. And this technique measure changes in blood flow to correspond to increase and decrease in mental activity and the interesting finding all that customers were showing different products is part of the go-to-market strategy of these brother and interesting be if customer declares that is going to purchase a certain product but it was not an increase in the emotional brain Terraria those products usually felt, so it's not about asking people it's about trying to find out a different measurement to understand how they felt. Jason: [40:52] Very cool and that's actually going to be a great place to leave it because it's happening again we've used up all our a lot of time. We stay at them around the South and across the United States: Day’s Inn. Best Western. Quality Inn. But there is a food world behind the scenes at some motels that most people are unaware of. In this episode of Gravy, a partnership with the Post & Courier in Charleston, South Carolina, we delve into that world. Hanna Raskin brings us the story of how so many motels came to be owned by families from the Gujarat region of India, and the secret cooking they do to keep their culinary traditions going here in the United States.

The Fat-Burning Man Show by Abel James: The Future of Health & Performance
Special episode for you this week, folks. This is a selection adapted from first draft of my new book, The Wild Diet about 10 Hours on Tour with Tim McGraw & the Fittest Band in Country as they came through Austin. Comment below and let me know what you think. Scroll down to the end and you can even hear me sing! :) - Abel As Alyson and I stepped aboard Tim McGraw's tour bus idling outside a Quality Inn in Austin, Texas, I realized that the real food movement is catching on. Instead of passed out groupies, elicit drugs, and broken furniture, the spotless bus had a zen-like calm about it as the smell of strong coffee wafted through the cabin. The bus was brimming with fresh produce, raw nut butters, seaweed, protein bars made of grass-fed lamb, and an imposing 5 pound sack of Brazil nuts. Fresh off filming the Today Show in New York City (see video below), the band seems bright-eyed and bushy-tailed. Denny, enjoying an unprecedented 20-year-stint as bandleader and guitarist for the country superstar, is 57 and looks half his age. Denny's rippling biceps and sturdy frame remind you that he's not to be trifled with, despite his gentle and pleasant demeanor. Denny, a past guest of the Fat-Burning Man Show, has been following The Wild Diet for just over year (see below for before and afters). On a hearty diet that includes plenty of butter, bacon, and eggs, he's dropped 46 pounds (from 240 to 194) and gained a fair amount of muscle by hacking with fasting and feasting. Impressed by Denny's transformation, several bandmates joined the journey to better health and vitality. “Our keyboard player only decided to try your diet because he's allowed to eat coffee cake,” Denny grinned. “My kids love eating this way“ Dean-O the fiddle player adds. “They can do whatever they want when they're away from the house, but they know what's bad for them and usually don't eat pizza and junk carbs. They don't have a problem eating veggies. And they're totally into organ meats… head cheese is their favorite. Their friends think that eating brains is cool.” Eating brains is cool. Despite a demanding tour schedule that often includes multiple shows in one day, the Tim McGraw Band eats well. Recent feasts while on tour with Faith Hill include: grass-fed bacon burger (bunless, of course), snapper with poblano sauce, grilled chicken and asparagus, roast beef with vegetables, shellfish platter with oysters, crab, lobster, shrimp and ahi poke along with a beet and endive salad. When he's not fasting, Denny's favorite breakfast is steak and eggs. “It's really not that complicated once you get the hang of it - you just listen to your body and eat when you're hungry. I love it. I'm full of energy and feel 15 years younger. Eating better even makes me want to drink less.” And that's good, because this band doesn't drink before the show. They swing sledgehammers and throw gigantic tires around in the parking lot. Band Gone Wild: Tim McGraw's Prison Yard Workout Featured this month's cover of Men's Health after his own 40 pound weight loss, 47-year-old Tim McGraw is a specimen. He credits his rocking biceps and six-pack abs to his band's intense outdoor workouts that focuses on core training, strength and balanced movements to build up the muscles between the ribs and connective tissues. The Tim McGraw Band even tours with a separate trailer dedicated to workout gear, lugging heavy chains, sledgehammers, and sandbags across the country. “Tim is a beast, man, he keeps me on my toes,” says Denny. The band's recent workout included weighted pullups, push-ups, dips, and man-maker lunges followed-up with sprints in the parking lot. When they can find a gym, workouts focus on heavy, functional movements like deadlifts, barbell rows, and overhead presses. Band members unwind with mobility exercises, meditation, long walks, and “earthing” with bare feet on whatever grass they can find. "It keeps us off the bus and it keeps us out in the fresh air instead of staying in a cave all day long," McGraw said on The Today Show. And from watching the band play up-close from backstage, I can tell you that the Tim McGraw band puts on a dynamic show. And it's in large part their physicality that makes the band incredibly fun to watch. The Tim McGraw band is doing just about everything right. This band doesn't work out and eat real food to “look better naked.” They swing sledgehammers in the parking lot because they know that it makes them better at their job. Being in shape with wild workouts gives them the stamina and energy to give their fans a world-class show. Other performers, athletes, and movie stars are catching on. Others to “come out” as Paleo / Wild / Ancestral include: Uma Thurman, Jake Gyllenhal, Matthew McConaughey, Jessica Biel, Miley Cyrus (for better or worse), Joe Rogan, Adrian Rodgers, Tucker Max, Dwayne (the Rock) Johnson, Grant Hill, and Hugh Jackman to name a few. Biohacking Paleo X-Men. Coming Soon. And oddly, these worlds are colliding. The day before the Tim McGraw band went on The Today Show, I was in New York with my friends J.J. Virgin and Dr. Sara Gottfried right after they stopped by The Today Show, as well. Healthy is getting hip. It doesn't matter if you're Paleo, Low-Carb, Raw Vegan, Fruitarian, or anything else - real food works for everyone, and the word is starting to spread. If Denny beat the odds to lose 46 pounds on the road playing stadiums around the world, imagine what you can do. Just by embracing real food and enjoying a good sweat from time to time. Come join us. One quick ask: if there's someone you can think of who needs to hear this message, please share this post with them using the share buttons on the side of this blog post or whatever way you can. Watch Tim McGraw Work Out on The Today Show (filmed the day before): Bonus: Watch Abel and Denny Jam on Guitar! In between filming "The Today Show" and headlining at Circuit of Americas, Denny came by the house and we drank tea, feasted homemade muffins and quiche, and sat down in front of the podcast mic and just jammed, man. This is what happened. Steamroller Blues (Abel Sings!) Woody Overton and Jim Chapman tell the story of Casey White and Vickie White who just last year led authorities on an 11 day manhunt following Casey White's escape from prison in one of the most adrenaline filled escapes in United States history.#CaseyWhite #VickieWhite #PrisonEscape #Podcast #WhenEvilEscapesCheck out past episodes on our website by clicking hereFULL TRANSCRIPTJim: Hey, everyone. Welcome back to another edition of Bloody-Woody: -Angola.Jim: A podcast 142 years in the making.Woody: The Complete Story of America's Bloodiest Prison.Jim: And I'm Jim Chapman.Woody: And I'm Woody Overton.Jim: And we're back with a new episode.Woody: We're back, y'all. And, hey, patrons, thank y'all so much for supporting us. And as any show does, eventually, we took, what, a two-week hiatus? Jim: Yeah, we dropped just for patrons for a couple of weeks.Woody: Right. But we've had meanwhile-- it's funny, we take the little break, and we go to number five again and we're kind of going viral on Bloody Angola and we won't take much time off, y'all, but sometimes it is what it is. That being said, we want to thank everybody and we welcome all you new listeners to this edition of Bloody Angola. What we told y'all, or I've told y'all in every episode of Bloody Angola, is you're always going to get something different. Today's case is really different, because while the story is not directly related to Angola, I can tell you it's directly related to Angola.Jim: [laughs]Woody: The case is about a guy named Casey White, who was a convict, and Vicky White, who was a correctional officer. And we're going to get into it but let me tell you this. I can tell you, I've seen it, I've arrested people inside the prison for doing it. What it boils down to is correctional officers and inmates fucking. Jim: Yeah.Woody: You wouldn't think, Jim, that that would happen, but it probably happens more than inmates doing it. I think the convicts use-- certainly some of the people locked up in prison are geniuses and they are master manipulators for whatever the crimes may have been. They find that weak person, male or female. We've done an episode on Bloody Angola about the lieutenant who was banging a convict. But it happens, male and female. So, it's a very real deal inside the prison. I told you, anytime you go behind those gates or the walls, that that normal rules don't apply. And it is what it is.Y'all, I've actually seen it. I'll tell you one case that really sticks in my head. There was a politician's daughter, and she was an attractive female, who was a correctional officer. Now, naturally, he got her the job and they gave her a cush job. She was in the canteen. She worked where they got all the snacks and shit from. She had an orderly who worked with her when-- we called him, really working her from behind, literally. Jim: [laughs] Woody: And somebody else had snitched on them. So, we set it up and waited for the opportunity and busted in. They were butt naked, and he was balls deep. She didn't get arrested because of who she was, but she got fired, and he got swung to the working cell block. Jim: Oh, very nice.Woody: But this story is super, super interesting. You know what? I told you correctional officers, some of the best people in the world, and then some of them that you work with that are worse than inmates. This story really shows how the human psyche can roll out, because you can be the best correctional officer for years and then sugar turns into shit. Jim: That's right. This is a good example of it. As Woody just told you, it's one hell of a story. The best place to start is, I want to give you guys and gals an idea of the background of these two subjects that we're going to talk about. The first one is Casey White, y'all. Now, to call this guy a stone-cold killer would really be putting it mildly. The first thing you notice when you see Casey White is his size. He's just flat out a giant of a human being. Woody: Like a freak of nature giant.Jim: Freak of nature, 6'9", weighed 330-- [crosstalk] Woody: There's not that many players in the NBA that are 6'9". Jim: There's probably not a bunch of people on Earth that are 6'9" and 330 pounds. And, y'all, this ain't fat. This is solid prison muscle. And prison muscle, as you've heard Woody talk about many times on Real Life Real Crime, is different than free people muscle. [laughs] Woody: Jim and I have been here before, and somebody came in to be a guest on the show, and I was like, "Oh, shit, that's prison muscle." Jim: Oh, yeah. You spot it right off, and that's what he had. The next thing you'll notice about this guy is his tattoos. Now, he has tons of them, but this isn't your typical barbed wire or if you're in the navy, you've got an anchor on your bicep or something. These are mostly white supremacist related tattoos. He was associated with the Alabama-based white supremacist prison gang, Southern Brotherhood. So, not a nice individual. In addition to being a freaking Jolly Green Giant. Woody: We need to cover this one day, and we will on prison gangs, different ones, maybe episode on each one. Let me tell you about the Aryan-based prison gangs. They're like the military. On your yard time, you have to work out. They work out in formation. They stay to themselves, etc. The prison muscle deal, if you don't work out and you're not swole, they'll beat your ass. If you don't do what they order you to do, they'll kill you. But at 6'9", 330 pounds, I bet you he was a shot caller.Jim: Oh, yeah. What we're trying to do here is paint y'all a picture of how intimidating this guy is before you even know even a shred of his criminal record. Now, you may wonder what's that look like. Well, get ready for this. Woody: Well, in 2006, Casey White was arrested on a domestic violence charge. But, Jim, it wasn't his wife. Domestic violence doesn't mean it's your spouse. In this case, he was arrested for beating his mama's ass. His own mother. Four years later, in 2010, he pled guilty to attacking his brother, another domestic violence, with an axe handle, and was sentenced to six years in prison. And, y'all, in December 2015, Mr. White went on another crime spree where he tracked down and tried to kill his ex-girlfriend. The rampage spanned both Alabama and Tennessee as he held victims at gunpoint, shot one woman in arm, killed a dog, and carried out a home invasion and staged multiple carjackings before he was finally captured in a dramatic police chase. Now, this spree unfolded on the morning of December 1st, 2015, when he broke into a home and stole two guns. Later that night, he turned up at his girlfriend's house armed with the stolen guns and opened fire on her and two men inside the home.Jim: Didn't even hesitate.Woody: He had it on his mind. After that, White then broke into another home and stole a man's car and another gun. Around an hour later, he shot another woman in the arm in an attempted carjacking in Tennessee before carjacking another person at gunpoint.Jim: This is all the same freaking weekend.Woody: He's just rolling. I mean, he's just straight up thug life. White was finally captured in a dramatic 100-mile-an-hour police chase that ended in a standoff back over the border in Alabama. Now, he's in a standoff. And during the standoff, he demands to speak to the sheriff and threatened to shoot himself in the head. He asked for a pack of Marlboro cigarettes and a Sun Drop soda before he surrendered. Jim: [laughs] Got to have them Marlboros. Woody: Got to get me them reds. Jim: That's crazy.Woody: Got to get that voice right. Well, he knew he was going back to prison. In 2019, White was convicted on multiple charges over the rampage, including attempted murder of his ex-girlfriend, and he got 75 years in prison. Jim: So, that's what kind of guy we're dealing with here. Woody: Real winner.Jim: I guess you could say, walks the walk and talks the talk when it comes to it. Woody: When you tat yourself up with Swastikas and shit, you're pretty much not going to get a job as a whatever, as an accountant. I mean, you're in for the thug life. He's proven it, and he has total disregard for the law and anything going on with it.Jim: Yeah, so he's right where he belongs. And while serving this 75--Woody: He's the reason they build Bloody Angolas. Jim: Yeah, that's right. While serving this sentence of 75 years, he's also awaiting a trial for the 2015 stabbing and murder of a 58-year-old mother of two named Connie Ridgeway. Now shortly after he got locked up for that 75-year stint, he provided a confession for that particular murder. Now, she was found stabbed to death in her apartment. This was in Rogersville, Alabama on the 23rd October of 2015. The case went unsolved for five years until White sent a letter to the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Office confessing to the crime. During a subsequent interview with authorities, he allegedly gave details about the crime that had not been made public which only the killer, y'all, would have known. Prosecutors say he was paid to carry out that hit. Woody: Got to make a living. Jim: Got to make a living. Look, his whole life, that's how he generated money, I'm sure. In 2020, he was charged with two counts of capital murder. Now, after confessing to the murder in which he initially pled guilty, he changes his plea to not guilty by reason of mental illness. Woody: See how that works out for him.Jim: Yeah, primarily because they were going for the death penalty if he was convicted in that case. So, there's no way at that point he's going to plead just straight up guilty. Now, if that's not enough to paint a picture of how evil this guy is, there's also the mysterious disappearance and death of his 2008 girlfriend. Casey White's then girlfriend, back in 2008, Christy Shelton, was shot in the chest by a sawed-off shotgun inside an Alabama home belonging to White's mother. Woody: The same mother he beat the shit out of. Jim: Same one he beat the shit out of. Ms. Shelton, who was 31 at the time, died at the scene. Now, White was in the home with her at the time of the shooting, but somehow, Woody, was ruled out as a suspect. Woody: Ah, look at that.Jim: That was his history. Back then, officials ruled the 31-year-old deaths as a suicide and the case was closed. So, he probably made it look like a suicide somehow. Ms. Shelton's family, of course, always doubted that version of events and it was never solved. That is the crimes, Casey White was convicted of and the ones he still faced justice for in 2022 when the incident we're about to tell you about took place. Woody: It's just a long, long storied history of being a piece of shit. Jim: His whole life. Woody: A hardcore piece of shit. Jim: Start out beating his mother and his brother. Woody: I mean, he's just the gift that keeps on giving. But again, that's why we build prisons, for murderers and pieces of shit like this. Let me tell you about the other side of this story. And that is about Ms. Vicky White. Now listen, they have the same last name, y'all, her and Casey White, but they're not related at all. They weren't married, not blood related, nothing. Just chances, I guess. White is a pretty common name. But Vicky White was a total opposite of Casey. At 56 years old, Vicky White was almost getting ready to retire from her career as a correctional officer. Rick Singleton, the sheriff in Lauderdale County, Alabama, was quoted as saying she was a model employee in all her coworkers. All the employees in the sheriff's office, the judges and all had the utmost respect for her. Now, Vicky White was a widow with no children and never had so much as a speeding ticket in her entire life. She was clean as a whistle. She is 5'5" and weighed 145 pounds. Now, we told you about him, 6'9", 330.Vicky, in 1997, she joined the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Office and she went on become the office assistant director of corrections. That's something special for a female. I mean, that's a big deal. In 2002, she and Tommy White got married. Now, that's not Casey White, y'all. That's her husband. They got married and she was six years younger than him, and they raised cattle on a farm. She later left him when his drug problems got out of hand in 2006 and she divorced him. But she was so respected and well liked. In fact, between 2015 and 2022, her peers voted her as supervisor or employee of the year four times.Jim: Wow.Woody: I mean, she was just jam up. After her divorce with her husband, Tommy, she remained friendly with him. In January 2022, he died from complications related to Parkinson's disease. She's getting ready to retire. She's 56 years old. She's put in almost her 30 years. She's risen as high as she can get in corrections, sans a warden, I guess. Then, she's liked by everybody. Jim: Yeah. Just a stand-up citizen in all--Woody: All aspects. Jim: Total opposite of the other guy. Now, I know you're wondering, you're probably saying to yourself, "What happened? How the hell did these two completely different individuals just get intertwined?" Well, in 2020, while serving down his sentence at the William E. Donaldson Correctional Facility, which is in Jefferson County, Alabama, Casey White came into contact with Vicky White. Let me tell you how they came into contact. He was at a state prison, but they would transfer him to her jail whenever he would have court appearances. He'd get transferred to the jail, he'd see Ms. White and he wanted to get him a little something-something, probably wink at her or whatever. Look, this is a big dude now. He ain't blended in nowhere. Woody: Yeah. I'm sure he started out, he floated her a little wink or something and she didn't reject it. So, that opens up his can of worms. Like, "Every time I'm going down, I'm going to try to lay a little smackdown on this girl."Jim: That's right. Woody: If can be honest with you, I'm totally confident in my sexuality, I could say this. But I think you look at a 6'9" guy that's 330 pounds, and you think everything is big on that dude. [laughter] Woody: He probably got 14-- [crosstalk] Jim: An anaconda in his pants? [laughs] Woody: At 14, his anaconda, but he don't fold it in half for anybody. [laughter] Jim: Indeed. And I'm sure she was thinking the same thing at the time.Woody: She's 56 and [crosstalk] husband for a while. That's still cracker. Jim: So, they would see each other. Speculation now is that the flirting started, and she started calling him. She would call him at his state prison, and they just shoot the breeze. Look, this became a two-year thing.Woody: Yeah. Once I submit to you on that first phone call, it's going to be a shitty--Jim: Yeah. "What are you wearing?" That was what that question was on that first phone call. "Is it red panty night?" [laughs] [crosstalk] Woody: That may have been the second phone call. The very fact that he got it across that line of calling me-- now, I'm sure they say, "This is a collect call from an inmate at correctional center, da, da, da," she had to take the charge. Jim: That's right. They start this kind of phone thing and visiting thing, and it becomes a two-year ordeal. As a matter of fact, during the next two years, they formed a relationship and other inmates-- and look, inmates talk and inmates after the fact, after all the dust settled and this case became obvious, they came forward and said he would get extra food and special privileges from Vicky White every time he was at that jail. And they were pissed. They're not going to rat out the 6'9", 330-pound beast for sure. Now,in the months and weeks leading up to what will become his escape from prison, aided by Vicky White, and of course, unbeknownst to officials, Vicky was preparing. Vicky announced plans to retire on April 29th, 2022, which incidentally, y'all, was the same day of the escape. She sold her home on April 18th of 2022 for $95,550. Now, that's important because it was well below the market value of $235,000.Woody: Yeah. She wanted that quick money. She had plan.Jim: She wanted that quick money. Yeah. First person looked at it, "What if I charge you 95,000?" They were like, "Okay." She ended up selling it for a third of its value. She then moved in with her mother, Pat Davis, for about five weeks after selling that home. She started taking money out of the bank. She had a number of different banks. She was taking cash out of everywhere. So, she was preparing. She even went shopping for men's clothing at a local department store, Woody Overton. Then, she goes to the adult store.Woody: The men's clothing, she had to look in the big and tall section. Jim: Oh, yeah. You had to get probably some special stuff there. She goes to the adult store even and buys lingerie and sex toys. Woody: We had to put on the kinky.Jim: Yeah. Woody: [crosstalk] Jim: Yeah. This is all going on the weeks before the actual escape, and she even purchased, which would become an important point, a 2007 Ford Edge that was orange under a false name. Woody: Right. Now, we set it up for you. You know who he is, what he's about. The two faces that she put on, the professional face and now she's got-- well, they had a common face. She's lining it all, and he's telling her to do all this. But I think $95,000, we can get by, have some good times on that. On April 28th, 2022, Vicky White stayed at a Quality Inn hotel in Florence, Alabama. It was this day that she positioned the orange Ford Edge at a parking lot about 10 minutes from the detention center. On the day of the escape, at 09:30 AM, Vicky White told another deputy that she planned to take Casey White to a mental health evaluation in court and then would seek medical attention because she wasn't feeling well. While the jail policy states that inmates are always accompanied by two deputies, because she's who she was, Vicky White, and everyone loved and trusted her, no one even second guessed her decision. That's really using your power and your authority and your reputation.Vicky White then took Casey White, who's wearing an orange jumpsuit and shackles, and put him in a patrol car, and she drove away. As they left the prison, Florence City Council member, Bill Griffin, was outside shooting a commercial for his council district, and he saw Vicky drive past him with Casey White in the backseat. Well, not unusual. Griffin knew White and waved at her, and she waved back to him twice before driving off. Just a day at the office. She drove the patrol car from the detention center to a nearby shopping center parking lot and left the vehicle there. They then got into the orange Ford Edge that had been left there the night earlier and drove away. The patrol car was found abandoned in the parking lot around 11:00 AM by someone on a lunch break. Imagine that, right? Jim: Yeah. Woody: When we say patrol cars, even every jail or prison, especially sheriff's offices, they have jail units. It looks just like a patrol car, like a uniform deputy patrolling in. But they have jail units that they can transport one inmate or time or go do whatever jail functions they need to do. That's what she did in this case. Officers at the jail became concerned and tried to call her but her phone kept going straight to voicemail. Then, they realized that Casey White had not been returned to the jail. The Ford Edge was found locked and abandoned in the middle of the road in Williamson County, Tennessee, about a two-hour drive north of Lauderdale County. Unaware of its origin, a tow truck driver, Robert Keynes, transported the vehicle to a local tow lot. At about 03:30 PM, officials realized Vicky and Casey White were missing. Now y'all remember when she bought the Ford Edge, she did it under assumed name so it's not tied to her. Once they realized that Vicky and Casey were missing, the Lauderdale County sheriff's office put out an alert on their Facebook page just before 6 o'clock in the evening. Jim: Wow. You can imagine the panic, y'all. This guy was a stone-cold killer. He just escaped your jail. I mean he is the worst of the worst. There's probably going to be violence at some point. Now in addition, you're assuming Vicky is a victim. Nobody is thinking at this time Vicky helped this guy escape. They're all thinking he must have overpowered or got out of his handcuffs or something. So, you call the cavalry. And that's just what they did. On May 1st, the US Marshals offer up to a $10,000 reward for information leading to the capture of Casey White. Vicky White was described as missing and endangered.Woody: In case you don't know, anytime there's an escaped inmate or convict, the US Marshals, they have a specialized division just in tracking down escapees. Everybody else would have been looking for them also, the sheriff's office and all the state police. But when you call in the US marshals, this division, all they do is eat escapees. Jim: Yeah. As Woody said, they start investigating and they figured out, and they figured out pretty fast. As a matter of fact, by the next day, they figure out that Vicky White was somehow involved in aiding him in this escape. On May 2nd, a warrant is issued for Vicky White, charging her with permitting and facilitating escape in the first degree. So, something happened. Woody: I'm sure they figured out that he actually didn't have doctor's appointments. She made all that shit up. Jim: Absolutely. And some other things. Actually, she and Casey White were caught on camera as well, which in reality, look, that was going to happen sooner or later. People don't realize it, but all of us are on camera. An average, y'all, you, whoever's listening right now, all of you, you're on camera an average of 70 times per day, whether it's going in and out of stores, pumping gas, sitting at red lights, whatever. Woody: Considering the Chinese spy balloons. Jim: Yeah, that's right. [chuckles] The particular video of the two that kind of tied it in for them shows Vicky White driving the patrol car straight from the detention center to the parking lot where it was found. She made no stops in between and that was an indication to police that there was some planning involved. On May 3rd, the Marshal service releases images of the orange Ford Edge that the fugitives were last seen driving, what they picked up in the parking lot. They left the patrol car, they got in the orange Ford Edge and the marshals added a $5,000 reward for information leading to the capture of Vicky White. So it's up to 15,000 now. The subject should be considered armed and dangerous and may be armed with an AR-15 rifle or a shotgun, the marshal's office also reported.Woody: And that would have been out of the marshal unit, y'all, the jail unit, they keep them in the trunk. Jim: It was at this point and still not discovered by police that Casey and Vicky ditch the Ford Edge and they pay $6,000 cash for a Ford F150. It is also at this time that they purchase a Cadillac, and they continue their escape with one following the other into Indiana.Woody: Interesting.Jim: Yeah. Look, this was actually well planned. Just to set the scene for, y'all, there's panic now. This guy is as bad as they get. He's on the loose. Now, you've got a former employee on the loose with him, because I'm sure she got fired quick. Casey and Vicky White drive that car into a car wash in Evansville, Indiana.Woody: That's a long ways from Alabama. Jim: Yeah, that's right. Their last location before that that was known was Tennessee, a place called Williamson County, which was 175 miles north or south of Evansville.Woody: And then, to Indiana is a long ways from there.Jim: Yeah. Period. Woody: He's smart. They're putting in miles. The more miles in, the less news coverage and all that. Jim: There you go. So, they pull into that car wash. They leave the F150 sitting in the car wash stall, and they get into the Cadillac, and they drove away from the car wash. Now, at this point, law enforcements still assume they're in that orange Ford Edge. Woody: Right. Well, what they did not know was that tow truck driver had towed the Ford Edge two days earlier after it was left in the middle of a roadway. When he saw a news report on May 5th looking for that vehicle, he recognized it, and he called the cops and told him what tow yard it was in, and he brought them to it. The US Marshals found the Ford Edge in the tow lot and confirmed it was the one used by Vicky and Casey White. On May 8th, a few days later, another big break in the manhunt took place when investigators were notified about the Ford F150 abandoned at the car wash and its possible connection to the fugitives after the curious car wash attendant viewed surveillance video to try to find out who left the truck in his car wash and then recognized the fugitives. Jim: Naturally. Woody: And they're pretty easy to recognize. Remember, it's anaconda and shorty. [chuckles] Woody: So, on May 9th, US Marshals release images dated May 3rd from the Evansville car wash surveillance camera of a man believed to be Casey White in the Ford F150. Y'all, they're also established in what direction they're headed, basically and that they're swapping vehicles. And the car wash surveillance video showed the suspects leaving the F150 and getting into that Cadillac. Jim: So now, they know what they're driving, at least at that point. Woody: Right. At this point, the Evansville police, where the two were last seen, had the Cadillac burned into their brain and they were looking everywhere for it. An Evansville police officer spotted the Cadillac vehicle at a Motel 41 and alerted other investigators. They began the surveillance of the motel and observed Vicky and Casey White exiting the motel and getting into the Cadillac. Police began to pursue the Cadillac and the fugitives fled north on the US Highway 41 in Evansville in the Cadillac. In the pursuit, Casey White and Vicky White drove onto a grassy field and parking lot near an industrial area of the city. A law enforcement officer rammed a vehicle into the car, flipping it onto its side in a ditch. It's like movie shit. You can't make this up, right? Jim: Yeah. And this was the Evansville, Indiana police. Woody: That's called a PIT maneuver. And maybe they didn't do it correctly. They flipped a Cadillac, dude. Officers reached the duo in the car, and they took Casey White into custody and found Vicky White with a gunshot wound to the head, and what investigators believed the time to be a self-inflicted or suicide y'all. She died in the hospital that night from her injuries. The Indiana coroner's office ruled the death as a suicide. During the arrest, Casey White referred to Vicky White as his wife and said he did not shoot her. They were not believed to have been married, talking about Vicky. Jim: Yeah, he just called them. They weren't legally-- Woody: Hell, he might have got an ordained minister through the thing or whatever, he might have married them in the hotel room. It's funny, it's not the Motel 6. It was the Motel 41. Jim: Motel 41. Only the best for that guy. Woody: Investigators found four handguns, a semiautomatic rifle, three magazines. That's not GQ magazines. People commonly refer to them as clips, magazines with bullets. They found wigs and about $29,000 cash in the vehicle. Casey White spoke for a lengthy period with investigators and said that they had planned to have a shootout with the police. The fugitives had been staying at the Motel 41 in an attempt to lay low for a while and had paid for a 14-day stay after paying a homeless man $100 plus the room cost to book the room for them. So, they had somebody else book it for them. Jim: Yeah. A homeless man at that. Woody: Now let me tell you this, anytime I had a BOLO for somebody that might be in my area, guess where I'm going to check first? The Motel 41 or whatever the local one is. In Albany, it was the Albany or whatever. I mean, you're going to cruise those places first. What they didn't know was cops had the Cadillac. If they didn't have a Cadillac, they'd have got away with it. If they didn't have the Cadillac on video like you're talking about, we're all on video so many times. Jim: That's right. That was a big key. There were a lot of questions to be answered, especially in regard to Vicky's death. We're going to play the 911 call for you now. One thing we didn't tell you in what we just told you was that right before the Cadillac got rammed, Vicky placed a 911 call. However, the operator picks up and she doesn't respond to the operating. They pick up, they say, "911, what is your emergency?" Normally, someone would say, "I'm in a chase with the cops," or something. "We don't want them shooting at us." She doesn't respond to that. It sounds like someone that would have dialed the phone in their lap and just left it sitting there so that the operator could hear what was going on. This is my impression, but I'm going to kind of let you gather your own impression. Right now, we're going to play that audio for you. This is Vicky White calling 911.Vicky: Hi. Operator: Evansville 911. Vicky: Oh, my Good. Operator: 911.Vicky: Please stop, the airbags are going to go off and kill us. Operator: Hello?Vicky: Casey. Oh, God. Airbags are going off. Let's get out and run. We should've stayed at the fucking hotel. [screams] [police sirens going off] [background noise] Operator: Hello?[police sirens going off][background noise] Jim: You hear things in that audio like, "Wait," "Stop," "Airbags are going to go off and kill us." Soon, you hear a loud noise. Now, the first of at least four loud noises to happen in about 15 seconds. It's unclear in each instance what the noise represents and it's kind of unclear from the audio when the car was rammed, when it rolled over and when the gun was fired. You do hear a woman, which is Vicky, saying, "God, airbags are going to go off. Let's get out and run." And she even mentions a hotel. The second noise you hear, you hear kind of shriek. And at least two more noises follow, followed by another shriek. You can hear sirens in the background. But this is the question I want y'all to ask yourselves, and that I certainly asked was if you're about to kill yourself, you're not worried about airbags going off, you're certainly not worried about getting out and running. So, I kind of call bullshit on that.Woody: And you wouldn't have dialed 911. Jim: And you wouldn't have dialed-- yeah, I call bullshit. Woody: I personally think what you're thinking is at some point in her pursuit, she realized, "Holy shit, he's going to kill me. I want 911 to at least be able to listen to it." Basically, what you just played is Vicky, a voice from the grave saying-- naturally, she knew she was culpable in all this, and at some point, she realizes, "Holy shit, he's going to kill me." Jim: Yeah.Woody: Jim, you may be 100% correct, but while Casey has not been charged with pulling the trigger against Vicky, he is being charged with felony murder in connection to the death of Vicky White and he's been indicted. The indictment says Casey White is responsible for Vicky White's death because it happened during Casey White's escape. Well, I get that, and that's a whole lot easier to prove than the fact that he killed her in a car. But I'm saying that he killed her in the car. Y'all want to read you a news release from the Lauderdale County Alabama's District Attorney. This news release is titled "Casey Cole White indicted for the felony murder and the death of Vicky White, July 12, 2022." On July 6, 2022, a capias warrant was issued for the rest of Casey Cole White for the offense of felony murder regarding the death of Vicky White. The warrant was issued based on the grand jury indictment. White, who is in the custody of the Alabama Department of Corrections serving a 75-year sentence due to the convictions from Limestone County, was served with the warrant yesterday at Donaldson Prison. He is also charged with capital murder for the 2015 murder Connie Ridgeway. The felony murder indictment alleges that during the course of an in furtherance of committing escape in the first degree, White caused the death of Vicky White, who died from a gunshot to the head. As are all criminal defendants, White is presumed innocent of the charge. No further information will be released by this office at this time. Chris Connolly, Lauderdale County District Attorney." Jim: That's pretty interesting because even though they're still saying that she killed herself, they're saying because of his involvement with her, that was almost the cause of it.Woody: It's the same thing. I go to rob a bank and you're driving a car and I kill somebody inside the bank, you're getting the murder charge also. In this case, because of the pursuit and whatever, she wouldn't have been in that situation.Jim: Right. Very interesting. One thing I will throw in here is a little caveat and a fun fact for y'all. The Motel 41 that you brought up, get this. Six months after that murder, tt was completely booked up. The same room that they stayed in for all that time. Woody: Yeah. Jim: Yes, people love it. "Yeah, I want Casey White's room." They could actually say that they slept in Casey White's room at the Motel 41. Woody: That's crazy. Jim: So, Motel 41 was loving it. [laughs] Woody: They're probably still loving it. Jim: Probably still loving it.Woody: They're going to love it after this episode. Jim: Yeah. Go check out the Motel 41. Maybe they'll sponsor Bloody Angola. [laughs] Woody: Yeah. Right. They can give us a free room when [crosstalk] Casey White room. We do a TikTok. Jim: The Casey White honeymoon suite. Woody: Very unique story. Jim: It really is.Woody: It happens every day. Think about all the ones, especially Angola, where these people, 6000 of them, certainly a certain percentage have to be masterminds and master manipulators. I've dealt with a lot of them. Like David Constance. He's not as dumb as he looks. He looks like a little troll, but the dude's a genius. Not formally educated, but he's a genius on playing people. It happens. Correctional officers are begging inmates, correctional officers are the largest reason that inmates get contraband, whether it's cell phones or dope or whatever. You can get more dope in prison than you can on the street. And it's probably cleaner, less fentanyl. But the sex part, everybody is here because two people screwed. Everybody on this earth, they just happen to find the vulnerable ones. Jim: That's right. Woody: And do what they do. Jim: You may wonder what's next for Casey White. I mean, he lived. He's back in jail. Well, in August of this year, 2023, he'll finally go on trial for the 2015 rampage that we told y'all about.Woody: Yeah, he should get death penalty.Jim: In that particular instance, he's charged with killing two people. As Woody discussed earlier in this podcast, he will most assuredly spend the rest of his life, if not get the death penalty for that.Woody: Some people just don't-- a rabid dog need to be put down because if he gets out-- he's proven, if he ever gets out, he's going to kill and maim and do whatever. This dude's definitely living for the moment. They found $26,000 out of the $95,000 something she sold her home for. He's living for the moment in the end. He planned on shooting out with cops anyway. He's like, "I'm going to be the--" [crosstalk] Jim: He told them that in interviews after.Woody: "I was going to shoot it out with y'all. I was going to kill as many of y'all as I can." Basically, he wanted to get killed too. Jim: That's right. Woody: He wanted to be that bad ass motherfucker, right? Jim: Yeah. The thing is, Woody, he's even said many times that had the vehicle not been flipped, he would have had that shootout. He just couldn't get out. He was pinned in.Woody: So, that 6'9", 330-pound anaconda. [crosstalk] Jim: Monster, man.Woody: Big dude. I don't know if I've ever met anybody-- Well, Shaq, I think it's a little taller than that, but that's a monster of a dude. Think about this, y'all, for every extreme case like this where they help him escape and all that, think about all the correction officers that are getting laid every day by convicts that never get found out. Jim: Never get found out. And you mentioned Shaq. Look, we're going to deviate just a second because I got a good Shaq story for y'all that I'm going to tell y'all, you may like. For those of you that may not realize, we record out of Baton Ridge, Louisiana area. And, of course, Shaquille O'Neal, Shaq played for LSU and back when he was in his college ball days, he was very well known around here. And much like Casey White, and it's worth pointing out those sized people stand out no matter where they're at. So, the first thing that I wondered with Casey White was he never would have been able to ever, ever, ever go in public anywhere for the rest of his life anyway because he stands out like a sore thumb. Just look for the guy that's 6ft 9in tall with tattoos. Woody: With swastikas.Jim: Yeah, I mean, it would have been obvious in that situation. But back to my Shaq story. I was in the mall and at the time, I was dating a girl and she was like 5ft tall, literally. I was probably 17 at the time. He might have been a sophomore at LSU. We're walking through a mall in Baton Rouge, and there he is. He's like looking at watches like in the breezeway there. I was coming out of Dillard's with my girlfriend. I asked the lady for a paper bag and a pen. So, she gives it to me. I told my girlfriend, I said, "Go get Shaq's autograph." She walks up to him and gets it but, y'all, Shaq is like 7'2". Standing next to my girlfriend, he's signing this thing, this is before cell phone cameras, sadly, but I saw it in person, it was like a two-year-old standing next to a full-grown adult. That was the size difference between those two.Woody: I got a couple I'll throw on you real quick. The same time, Shaq and Chris Jackson and all of them [crosstalk] I was at LSU. Reggie's, which we talked about on the last episode of Real Life Real Crime Daily, it's where Madison Brooks got overserved, that used to be called the Tiger. I lived in the first apartment right behind the Tiger. I'd go to the Tiger every night. Shaq, he was in the bar, and I went up, stood beside him, he was like a mountain of a man. Jim: Yeah. And Woody's tall. Woody: Yeah. I'm 6'2". But fast forward, I don't think anybody knows this. Shaquille O'Neal was a commissioned officer with the Killian Police Department. Jim: I forgot.Woody: Now I am going to tell you why. Not only did he have a house down there, but he is a big diver, scuba diver. He bought all the scuba diving equipment and the boat and everything for Killian Police Department. They're on the water down there on the [unintelligible 00:46:52]. He was instrumental in funding the dive rescue team and recovery team. Jim: Really? Woody: Killian Police Department. Yeah.Jim: I didn't know that.Woody: And he's [crosstalk] with them. Super, super cool guy, down to the earth. He's getting up there in age like me. But it is what it is. One of the best. Now, how we got on that from Bloody Angola, I don't know. Jim: [laughs] Well, we're talking about height and how these people stand out and that was just a few little for me and Woody, but just an enormous human. Woody: You're right. They absolutely would stand out like that. But this dude took it-- I'm talking about Casey White, took it to the whole next level, on getting tatted up with racist tats. Who's going to come up to him and say shit? Shaq might have said something to him but anyway.Jim: He is, Woody, the prime example that you can point to as someone who never, ever needs to be out of prison, ever. Woody: Yeah. Absolutely. Jim: Just a horrible human.Woody: They build prisons for that dude. Jim: They build prisons for them. Woody: Patreon members, thank you so much. Jim: Couldn't do it without them. Woody: I couldn't do it without you. Y'all, if you want to be a Patreon member, there's a ton of episodes locked up and get commercial-free early releases. Jim: And let me say this, Woody. I had a few people reach out, and I just want to explain this. They were asking with the regular episodes weren't dropping them every week. I just want to explain, and we appreciate all of you. Look, I love it when people say, "Where's the next episode?' I love that. I want everyone to understand, when you're a patron member, you don't miss any weeks. We're going to give you something, whether it's just Woody, whether it's just me, whether it's both of us, you're going to get extra and you're going to get bonus stuff. Sadly, this stuff is not free. And it is expensive for us to produce this podcast. It requires a lot of time, a lot of research. And so, with the regular feed that is just absolutely free, we unfortunately have to limit what we can put out there. If we were to a point where Nike would sponsor us or something, look, we're all over it. But if your Patreon member is $10 a month for the starting tier, and you get episodes every week.Woody: Even the higher tiers, I came in yesterday to record, you had a stack of packages that were going out. Jim: The Warden Team members. Woody: Warden Team members. I'll be looking for those. [crosstalk] Jim: I've got some good little swag this time. Woody: We give you a lot of benefits in that, and that's just a way to help us keep going and we give back, whether it's in the form of the commercial-free episodes or the episodes that nobody else is getting, the ones that are locked up. Look, some of those, I consider to be my favorite, the ones that are locked up haven't been released to the public. Jim: That's right. We've got probably about 10 of those now. If you're not a patron member yet, look, you can go to Patreon right now. It's $10 a month for that opening tier, and you got 10 episodes in there you ain't never heard.Woody: And you get commercial-free early releases. Basically, you get episodes if we have weeks of not dropping them.Jim: That's right. Don't forget about the other things we do. Woody, Real Life Real Crime Daily, Real Life Real Crime.Woody: Real Life Real Crime Daily. I would have let the cat out of the bag here first. Real Life Real Crime Daily has been such a success, about to take it from three days a week to four. Jim: Boom. Woody: Starting-- that's next week.Jim: Big deal, y'all. That means you're going to get either a Real Life Real Crime original or a Daily every day of the week. Woody: Five days a week. And Bloody Angola. It's a lot of recording, it's a lot of time. But you know what? The numbers don't lie. Y'all are the best fans in the world, and we appreciate you. Jim: That's right. We love doing it. Woody: And we're blessed. Jim: Yeah, don't forget about the app. Bloody Angola. You can get episodes straight through the app. Woody: That's the Real Life Real Crime community app. Jim: The Real Life Real Crime community app. So, you can download that on Apple Podcast. You can also do it on whatever Google's-- for Android. Woody: Yeah. Jim: Google Play Store. Woody: Yeah, just go you go to the App Store and download it. Jim: Yeah. So, that makes it easy, y'all, you can get it there. Woody: Respond to everybody in one place. We just have so much other social media, it's almost impossible now. Jim: That's right. Woody: It's a good problem to have, Jim. Jim: Yeah. [crosstalk] Woody: Y'all are a great problem to have. We love you. Jim: We love you very much. And until next time, I'm Jim Chapman.
