In this electrifying episode of Over the Ball, hosts Kevin Flynn and Dave Gallego team up with Kyle Foley, the dynamic beat writer for the Orlando Sentinel, to dive deep into the world of soccer. The trio explores the phenomenal rise of the Orlando Pride women's team, breaks down the US Men's National Team's latest performances, and examines the transformative influence of superstars like Kaká and Messi on Orlando's soccer scene. The conversation heats up with lively debates on the Copa America and Euros, speculation on potential candidates for the US Men's National Team coach, and a shared disdain for the nail-biting tension of penalty shootouts. They also highlight the booming success of soccer on television and don't hold back in slamming Kid Rock's misguided comments about the sport. This episode is a must-listen for soccer fans craving insightful analysis and spirited discussion.

Producer/Host: Natalie Springuel Happy New Year from our team at Coastal Conversations where we are launching season 8 of our show! For our first show of 2022, we are once again teaming up with The First Coast and the Island Institute to feature the final episode in our series about innovative people in Maine who are sustainably harvesting and growing products from the sea. First up, we're talking about Maine's groundfish fishery, past and present, and the potential that exists, for both fishermen and consumers, to support a diverse local marketplace and help support our fisheries. Then, to wrap up our series, we learn about the mysterious, internationally regulated, strong, and powerful Atlantic Bluefin Tuna, a fishery that leaves a lot of consumers puzzled. Listen up as we untangle these fishing stories and meet some of Maine's leaders in the seafood marketplace, on the waterfront and at sea. These stories were produced by Galen Koch of The First Coast as part of an Island Institute podcast called “From the Sea Up.” The podcast is made possible by the Fund for Maine Islands and a partnership between the Island Institute, College of the Atlantic, Luke's Lobster, Maine Sea Grant and the First Coast. Kyle Foley dropped by this week to talk about worship music, video games and millennials. Is video game culture really stopping this generation from getting jobs?  Terrible Opinions: Matthias: Worship music has crushed out actual church music. Old hymns set to new tunes are fine, but stop replacing them with wishy-washy emotional songs that have no theology. Jordan: The “relationship contract” explained in a New York Times column isn’t a bad idea. It’s better to err on the side of over-explaining your relationship than to just wing it and not be on the same page. Kyle: I hate Chipotle. How many video games is too many? Are millennial men really staying home and playing video games instead of getting jobs? Kyle, Jordan and Matthias talk about whether or not they’ve noticed this trend anecdotally and analyze how much video game time is too much. An avid gamer, Kyle mostly likes “social gaming,” video games that you’re playing with friends rather than on your own. Jordan compares video games to Netflix or another entertainment medium – it’s important to find balance and not invest too much of your time into it. To fire or not to fire … We wrap up with a debate about whether or not it’s damaging to society for people to be fired for participating in protests and having infuriating and offensive opinions.
