The Orlando Pride have won an NWSL match for the first time since June 13. The Pride went to San Diego and not only remained unbeaten there, but also got a winning goal from Carson Pickett after Jacquie Ovalle's first goal for Orlando was canceled out three minutes later when Anna Moorhouse gifted Dudinha an easy goal at the other end with a careless giveaway. We discuss a win for a change, check on our score predictions from last week, and make our selections for Player of the Match. This week's mailbagbox gave us a trivia question and asked us about Pickett as a striker, the end of Orlando's curse, and more.

Ele balançou as redes 35 vezes e deu 14 assistências. Então, havia nove do PSG.

Building athletes who are strong, healthy, and resilient requires more than sets and reps, starting with a shift in mindset. Christi Edson, Head of Performance for the Orlando Pride in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL), shares how she integrates strength and conditioning with sport science to sustain athlete health and performance. She reflects on the field’s evolution from the well-known “Bigger, Faster, Stronger” program to a training culture emphasizing resilience, active recovery, and durability. Drawing from her experience coaching high school athletes to NWSL professionals, Edson highlights the adaptability and creativity coaches need. Those qualities help her to develop athletes who can thrive through a demanding 11-month season. She details how tools like GPS, force plates, and velocity-based training sharpen communication and reshape expectations in the gym. Her story points coaches toward the future of athlete development: collaboration, precise load management, and long-term health as the foundation of strength. The Certified Performance and Sport Scientist (CPSS) credential can help you expand your qualifications, open new career paths, and strengthen cross-department collaboration.Show Notes“I think that would be a good example of how I fell into the sport science side, is I was trained up as a S&C coach and then was given technology to figure out after the fact. One of those technologies being force plates, which I have come to love. They're so diverse in what I can do with them in the gym.” 9:15 “I tell my athletes that all the time. You're not here for me. You're not here for me. You are here to play soccer. And my job is to help you stay healthy, to play soccer. We have some words up in the gym, which I finally got. It was strong, healthy, resilient. […] I want you to be healthy mentally and physically, because I don't need you to just slog through a season. I want you to feel good going into the weekend. But then resilient, you're going to take some knocks. But can we bounce back from that? And that strong foundation, I think, is a big piece of that.” 17:25 “Keep your ear to the ground for internships. […] Get those NSCA certifications in early because they are becoming more required. And the organizations that you work for have their ear to the ground. They understand what the minimum standard should be.” 24:10

The Orlando Pride could not build on their Concacaf W Champions Cup win over Alajuelense, as a poor night of shooting and a mistake at the back combined to allow Bay FC to escape Inter&Co Stadium with a 1-1 draw. It was Bay's first-ever result (and goal) in the series, and it couldn't have come at a worse time for the Pride, who need to stop the bleeding and get a win. We look back at our score predictions, which one of us got right, discuss the key moments and plays of the match and provide our selections for Player of the Match. This week's mailbagbox asked about the Pride's energy level, the starting lineup, the team's defense, and more. The Orlando Pride comfortably beat LD Alajuelense in the club's first-ever Concacaf W Champions Cup match, but the good feelings didn't last long. The Pride were completely run off the pitch by a Chicago Stars team that has improved recently but had not won a match in a long time. It wasn't just a win for the Stars, it was a 5-2 dismantling of a Pride team that somehow survived an oddly disjointed-looking starting XI for 45 minutes, taking the match to halftime scoreless. In the second half, the wheels came flying off and despite a good answer to the Stars' opening goal, the Pride fully capitulated afterward. We look back at our hilariously wrong score predictions, which were once again too optimistic, discuss the key moments of the match and our overall thoughts, and make our selections for Player of the Match. This week's mailbagbox asked us about the Pride getting shut out of the NWSL's Best XI teams at season's end, Carson Pickett's goal-scoring prowess, when we might see fewer players seemingly deployed out of position, and more. Remember, you can ask us anything by hitting us up on Twitter at either @TheManeLand or @SkoPurpSoccer and using the hashtag #AskSkoPurp. We'd also appreciate any ratings or reviews you can leave wherever you get your podcasts, and if you do that on Apple Podcasts, we'll find them easily and read them on the show. Finally, we discussed the Pride's upcoming home game against Bay FC. We would normally say this is a winnable game, but the recent form of the club suggests it could be otherwise. We presented the series history, discussed the key matchups, and made our score predictions, which again were probably too optimistic. We also touched on a trip to play Panamanian side FC Chorillo early next week when W Champions Cup play resumes. If you'd like to support our independent writing and podcasting efforts, we'd love to have you as a subscriber or donor over at our Buy Me a Coffee site. Here's how Episode 100 went down:0:15 – The Pride scored two goals at Chicago but gave up five. The Orlando Pride did not turn things around against a struggling Gotham FC side. The Orlando Pride are winless in five games, and that's the longest such skid since the final six matches of the 2022 season. You may recall that the Pride were not a good team in 2022, finishing 10th out of the 12 NWSL teams that competed in the league that season. The Pride return from an unsuccessful road trip that saw Orlando claim just one of a possible six points in two away matches, with a late goal conceded at Angel City costing the club one valuable additional point that could have been won. Not only did the Pride fail to score again, but they managed only one shot attempt in the second half — one that Ally Watt pinged off the near post. We break down another awful offensive display and a worrying loss that has Orlando teetering on the brink of going from NWSL Shield contender to playoff hopeful. We look back at our score predictions, discuss the key moments of the match and our overall thoughts, and make our selections for Player of the Match.Making matters worse for the Pride is the loss of star striker Barbra Banda for the remainder of the 2025 season. Banda's hip injury is a serious one, and she'll need months to recover. Without a viable scorer (but more on that in a moment), the Pride could slip below the playoff line if some adjustments aren't made.Speaking of adjusments, Haley Carter made a big one with the signing of Lizbeth Jacqueline Ovalle from Tigres in Liga MX Femenil. Ovalle is a gifted winger who can set up goals or score them herself. Her signing was a huge deal, and it comes with a huge price tag, as Orlando set a world women's transfer fee record to get her, reportedly at least $1.5 million. Ovalle would have been a tremendous asset when paired with Banda, but now she may have to carry the entire offensive load herself. Marta isn't scoring, Summer Yates isn't scoring, Watt isn't scoring, Julie Doyle isn't scoring, and Angelina isn't scoring. That's a lot of non-scoring.This week's mailbagbox asked us about Banda, Ovalle, back-to-back road games, and more. Finally, we looked ahead to Orlando's match against NJ/NY Gotham FC Friday night at home. Had it not been for the last four or five games, this would be another big game against a tough opponent. As things stand, this is a must-win match for a Pride team that badly needs to stop the bleeding. Ovalle likely won't yet be in the team, and the Pride will be without Banda, so it's anyone's guess as to how Orlando is going to score goals, but the team will need at least one to win. We look at the all-time series, provide our key matchups, and make our final score predictions. If you'd like to support our independent writing and podcasting efforts, we'd love to have you as a subscriber or donor over at our Buy Me a Coffee site. Here's how Episode 98 went down:0:15 – The Pride haven't scored a goal for themselves in three matches. [Note: This episode was recorded Monday evening, prior to the reports breaking that the Pride were in advanced talks to finalize a deal for Lizbeth Ovalle, so there is no mention of that on the show.]The Orlando Pride extended their winless skid to four matches with a scoreless draw at the Kansas City Current. However, there's a big difference between home draws against Utah and Louisville and a road stalemate with the league leaders. What was troubling about the draw was that Orlando didn't score a goal and Barbra Banda had to leave the game due to injury after landing awkwardly following a shot attempt. The Current, unlike Louisville a week ago, did not score a goal against themselves for the Pride. That was rude, but it's also why the Current lead the NWSL. The match itself was a defensive battle and neither side created much all night. Whether the three-and-a-half-hour delay for extreme heat had anything to do with stifling the offenses is debatable, but ultimately the Pride will take that point from Kansas City and move on.We looked back at our pessimistic score predictions, discussed the game, and made our selections for Player of the Match. No attackers were chosen. This week's mailbagbox asked us about the Pride's offensive struggles, and how much of them can be attributed to a myriad of different players being deployed by Seb Hines this season. Remember, you can ask us anything by hitting us up on Twitter at either @TheManeLand or @SkoPurpSoccer and using the hashtag #AskSkoPurp. For the Glory KC is back with the 143rd episode of the show!Weather was top of mind in the two Kansas City versus Orlando matches as both games experienced three plus hour delays.Sporting Kansas City initially looked like they were going to keep some of the positive vibes from the San Diego game going when they had a solid first half against Orlando City. Then the second half happened. While the lightning delayed the game, the second half absolutely lacked electricity for Sporting KC.Personally, I think the tactical changes were all wrong and a lot of it went down to the substitution patterns and decisions. Maybe it was because all three center forwards started the game, so there were none to bring off the bench. However, it felt like it all centered around team captain Zorhan Bassong. As soon as Bassong was forced to move to left back for a fatigued Tim Leibold, everything fell apart. Sporting KC interim manager Kerry Zavagnin switched to a very conservative midfield by bringing on Nemanja Radoja and Jacob Bartlett and flipping into the 4-3-3 out of the team's second attempt at a 4-4-2. If the team wanted to push for a win, a back three likely shores up the defensive weaknesses and keeps Bassong and Jake Davis in the midfield together. It may not have worked, and hindsight is 20/20, but the decisions made were a disaster. Or maybe it was just the players inability to execute. If instead it was a back three of Jansen Miller, Alan Montes and Robert Voloder, the team could have gone much more attacking with the wingbacks and not ruined the defensive chemistry of that Bassong/Davis double pivot. Sheena and I weigh in on that, and a lot more from the 3-1 loss to Orlando. In the SKC round-up we have stories on Gianluca Busio, Latif Blessing, SKC II and a lot more. The KC Current had weather issues of their own on Saturday. As many pointed out when the schedule came out, a 3:00PM start time in August for the Orlando Pride match-up was never going to work. The league should have realized it wouldn't work far before they left fans sitting in the stadium for hours with updates every 15-minutes before a larger delay was announced. When the game was finally played, the product on the field suffered and KC broke their eight-game winning streak and earned their first draw of 2025. All while failing to score for the first time ever in CPKC Stadium. It's hard to maintain your homefield advantage when so many fans had left due to the heat.In the Digital Crawl, we hit on a few more topics, including:The US Open Cup Semifinals are setKC Comets legend Nacho Flores retiresAnd Premier League Mornings Live is coming to Kansas City! Here is a rundown of topics and start times:Sporting KC Collapse in Orlando - 2:38SKC Round-Up - 33:05Heat Ruins KC Current vs. the Pride - 47:55Digital Crawl - 1:02:48Upcoming GamesKC Current @ Portland Thorns, Sat. The Orlando Pride are now winless in three games, and without a late own goal by Racing Louisville, would have been swept in the season series by the Kentucky-based side. Making things even worse were the two missed penalties Orlando had, giving the Pride ample opportunity to take all three points at home. Unfortunately, the hosts politely declined two of those points. We looked back at our score predictions, broke down the key points from the game, and made our selections for Player of the Match. It wasn't an easy decision. This week's mailbagbox was huge! Our listeners wanted to know about the Pride's offense, our memories from the first day of school, NWSL officiating, and more. We'd also appreciate any ratings or reviews you can leave wherever you get your podcasts, and if you do that on Apple Podcasts, we'll find them easily and read them on the show. Finally, we previewed the Pride's battle Saturday at the Kansas City Current. The match will not have an effect on first place as it has in the past few meetings, but it's an important opportunity for Orlando to make a statement if the Pride are not going to roll over and let some other team claim all the trophies this season. We break down the matchup, provide our key matchups, and make our final score predictions. If you'd like to support our independent writing and podcasting efforts, we'd love to have you as a subscriber or donor over at our Buy Me a Coffee site. Here's how Episode 96 went down:0:15 – The Pride can't score from the penalty spot and required help from Racing Louisville to grab a point.14:55 - The mailbagbox is supersized this week!41:38 - The Pride head west to take on the NWSL's top team.

For the Glory KC is back with the 142nd episode of the show!Sporting Kansas City didn't get the much-needed win against San Diego FC. It's not unexpected when a team well below the playoff line plays the best team in the conference it may not work out. Sure, they lost 2-0, but I'm here to tell you they actually executed their gameplan exceptionally well. Their chances just didn't go in. The dominated the expected goal (xG) battle, but the only number most will care about is the final score. However, there are positives that can be taken away from the loss and things to look forward to in the final nine games of the MLS season. Sheena and I will get into more detail in the episode, but those things are:The Jake Davis/Zorhan Bassong double pivotSantiago Munoz and Dejan Joveljic starting togetherThe return of Robert Voloder (he made such a difference)As a bonus category, we look closer at the 4-4-2 and decide if it should be that, or another formation for the rest of the year.Beyond those keys, we also discuss the flopping of San Diego FC, the poorly officiated game from Pierre-Luc Lauziere (which may have literally led to injuries), updates on other injuries (Erik Thommy in particular) and a bunch of other topics from the game.In the SKC Round-Up, we covered the newest Sporting KC signing (Alan Montes) and his brief debut, the departure of Dany Rosero, some Mike Burns transfer window quotes and the news my colleague Thad Bell broke that the $500k in GAM from the William Agada trade does not expire. The KC Current played twice since our last episode, both of which were wins. First, they beat Racing Louisville then they took down the Utah Royals. Both were victories on the road. But there was a ton of other KC Current news:Vanessa DiBernardo is pregnant and on maternity leaveAlly Sentnor arrives in the biggest trade in NWSL historyKatie Scott is out on loan to Racing LouisvilleKayla Sharples re-signed through 2027 with an option for 2028and Temwa Chawinga is up for the Ballon d'OrIn the Digital Crawl, we kept it brief on a few more topics, including:SKC II's first two winsSean Nahas is fired by the North Carolina CourageBenny and the Roots slip against Colorado SpringsHere is a rundown of topics and start times:Sporting KC dominate, and lose - 5:49SKC make a signing with more to come - 49:23KC Current win twice and make a ton of news - 59:47Digital Crawl - 1:24:34Upcoming GamesKC Current vs Orlando Pride, Sat. In today's episode, LDG interviews USWNT and Racing Louisville FC Midfielder Taylor Flint!!!Taylor is a midfielder for Racing Louisville FC, who has also represented the USWNT. Before joining the professional ranks, Taylor played collegiate soccer with the Colorado Buffaloes, scoring 39 goals throughout four seasons. Taylor was the third pick in the 2020 College Draft by the Orlando Pride, and she combined with Marta, Alex Morgan, among others, as a 10, impressing fans. She moved with Alex Morgan to the expansion side, the San Diego Wave, taking on a larger role and earning a senior call-up to the USWNT. Ahead of the 2024 season, Taylor joined the Louisville side and switched positions from the ten to the six without missing a beat. This season specifically, Taylor has shone, placing her as a frontrunner in both the NWSL Midfielder of the Year and NWSL MVP races.Tune in to hear Taylor talk about the personal differences between the youth and senior international realms, playing youth soccer with Cat Macario + Tara McKeown, and why Racing was (and still is) such an attractive project to join.Additionally, be on the lookout for questions on Taylor's experience playing on the senior USWNT, her first season being interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic, and her time at San Diego/Orlando!In the rapid-fire section, we get to learn more about Taylor off the pitch. The Orlando Pride returned to NWSL play Sunday night but things hadn't improved much since their 2-0 loss at Racing Louisville back on June 20. While it wasn't a loss, and the Pride scored a goal, the result against the league's bottom-dwelling club at home can be seen as nothing short of disappointing. The match could have ended as a 1-0 win if not for another highly suspect goal conceded early in the match, as Anna Moorhouse was caught napping well off her line by Mina Tanaka. Prisca Chilufya got the Pride on level footing, but Orlando didn't create a lot of clear-cut chances, and couldn't put away anything after the Zambian's goal. We looked back at our incorrect predictions of a Pride victory, broke down the key points from the game, and made our selections for Player of the Match.Following our match recap, we discussed the ESPN report that Ally Watt has been dealt to Denver Summit FC and loaned back to the Pride for the rest of 2025. It hasn't been officially announced, but Jeff Kassouf is a solid reporter and cited multiple sources. Watt, who is currently injured, has been an integral part of the locker room culture the past few years in Orlando and was a big part of the Pride's run to the double in 2024.This week's mailbagbox asked about our feelings regarding Watt's apparent (eventual) departure, where the responsibility lies with Sunday's result, Marta's best role with the club, and more. We discuss the series history, provide our key matchups, and make our final score predictions. If you'd like to support our independent writing and podcasting efforts, we'd love to have you as a subscriber or donor over at our Buy Me a Coffee site. Here's how Episode 95 went down:0:15 – The Pride played with their food a bit too long against the Royals, and Ally Watt may very well be on the move after the season.21:10 - The mailbagbox is not filled with contentment.45:50 - The Pride look to regain their form against Racing Louisville.

The Orlando Pride will finally be back in action this weekend after a lengthy midseason stop for international tournaments. We are also back after a couple of weeks off as the club was quiet for the bulk of July. We open this show by discussing how several of the Pride players spent the "break." Six of those players all spent a lot of time with their national teams in Europe, South America, and Africa. We discuss Anna Moorhouse's team winning the Women's Euros, Zambia's run — featuring Barbra Banda, Prisca Chilufya, and Grace Chanda — in the Women's Africa Cup of Nations, and Marta and Angelina representing Brazil in the Copa America Femenina. We'll also discuss which players won't be back in time for Orlando's match Sunday against the Royals. This week's mailbagbox asked about Orlando's openness to an Adriana return, national team kits, whether the Pride could beat up Spain in a (soccer) fight, and more.
