Today's Headlines: Donald Trump signed an executive order renaming Lake Ontario to Lake America — yes, really — musing that maybe he'll rename the Atlantic and Pacific next, while Canadian PM Mark Carney responded that "Ontario" is a 400-year-old Wendat word meaning "the lake is beautiful, the lake is big," which is a more dignified response than the moment deserved. Back to actual issues, Iran has been running an AI-powered disinformation operation on Instagram and Facebook, posing as average Americans to spread political misinformation about immigration and the Israel-Palestine war, with Meta taking down 35 accounts — which is a lot of effort from a country we're supposedly defeating militarily. The military situation is genuinely alarming across every front: a sailor who jumped off the USS Abraham Lincoln in what his wife describes as a suicide attempt — after his paternity leave requests were repeatedly denied while his wife gave birth — is now facing disciplinary action for "malingering" and AWOL charges for being medically evacuated. Pete Hegseth fired the Army's top general days after the general was advised to drop an investigation into how Kid Rock got a military helicopter fly by so he could wave at it on social media. Oh but there's more, Jennifer Hegseth, Pete's wife and former Fox News producer, has been attending classified intelligence meetings with foreign officials with no confirmed security clearance — she was in the Houthi PC small group chat. Five service members told MSNBC they're being asked to violate international law by targeting civilian infrastructure, and applications to leave as conscientious objectors have surged since the Iran war started. The US is also "beyond critically low" on Patriot missile interceptors in Europe — because of the Iran war — right as the CIA director had to fly to Moscow in person to tell Russia not to attack NATO. A Navy engineer's rape lawsuit against the ship captain who allegedly entered her room with a master access key was dismissed by a judge who said it should be treated as a workplace compensation claim. To add to the overall craziness, ICE arrested 49,000 people in July alone, with less than 4% having any prior violent conviction. And finally, Fauci's prosecution is apparently going nowhere, which is the best news of the day. Barbara regarding President Trump's executive order issued on his first day in office, which seeks to limit birthright citizenship under the 14th Amendment by denying automatic U.S. citizenship to children born in the United States if their parents are undocumented or present on a temporary basis. Justices from across the ideological spectrum asked pointed questions about the order's interpretation of the phrase "subject to the jurisdiction thereof" in the 14th Amendment and whether the executive branch can unilaterally alter long-standing practice and precedent on citizenship. President Trump attended the arguments in person, the first time a sitting president has done so. Lower courts previously blocked the order as unconstitutional. Wow! This is a fun interview. As a matter of fact, we had so much fun that we're going to do it again because we barely broke the surface of the band's rise to fame. Bones tells great stories of gigging around the metro Detroit area. How did Jimmie get started, and what influenced his love of music? "Well, way, way, way, way back, man, long before you were born, I saw this band on the Ed Sullivan show debut, and they were called the Beatles. And I kind of, I think I was maybe five years old. And I can't say it blew my wig back, because my mom used to shave my head back then, like this really 60s brush cut. But it kind of, yeah, did that to me, you know. And then later on, I saw the Rolling Stones on there and a lot of the other British invasion bands. So that had an impact on me."That was just the beginning. From there, Bones told me about his path through the Detroit ranks to meeting Kid Rock. The White Room Studios is where their paths crossed, and they've been bandmates ever since. ABOUT SWAMP DOGG R&B cult favorite Jerry “Swamp Dogg” Williams is best known as the co-writer, with Gary U.S. Bonds, of the cross-genre classic, “She's All I Got,” which became a Top 10 R&B single for Freddie North and a #2 country hit for Johnny Paycheck in 1971. Williams' career began in 1954 when, at the age of 12, he made his first record, “HTD Blues.” He found success in the 1960s, recording the Top 40 R&B hit “Baby You're My Everything” under the name Little Jerry Williams, and writing songs for other artists, including Gene Pitney's Top 20 Pop single, “She's a Heartbreaker.” He became Atlantic Records' first African American staff producer in 1968 but left the following year to pursue independent projects in Muscle Shoals, Alabama and Macon, Georgia. By the 1970s Swamp was an in-demand producer and songwriter, penning Top 40 R&B hits for Doris Duke, Arthur Conley, and Dee Dee Warwick.  Around the same time, he reinvented himself as Swamp Dogg, releasing a series of eccentric soul albums with lyrics marked by frank sexuality, biting satire, radical politics, and provocative social observations. His debut LP, Total Destruction to Your Mind, was eventually certified Gold, while subsequent releases, including Gag a Maggott, I'm Not Selling Out – I'm Buying In, An Awful Christmas and a Lousy New Year, and The White Man Made Me Do It garnered considerable accolades among underground music lovers and earned Swamp what one journalist described as “a cultural niche somewhere between Rudy Ray Moore and Frank Zappa.” In recent years, his vast catalog has been sampled by Kid Rock, Talib Kweli, DMX, and others. Having just turned 84, Swamp shows no signs of slowing down. Drop us a line or two . . .This episode opens the way the best ones do — mid-ramble, mid-life, totally unrushed. Queenie and TT kick things off with a digression about estate sales and thrift shops, specifically the unsettling realization that the stuff of their childhoods is now being tagged and priced at church basements across America. Harvest gold Tupperware. Avocado canisters. Country geese with blue bows around their necks. Roosters. Wallpaper you could strip with a steam iron and seventeen years of your life. They're not mourning exactly — more like doing that thing where you laugh because the alternative is sitting with the actual weight of time passing, and who has the energy for that.Queenie is riding a sativa-leaning hybrid from Ghost (a brand she's clearly developing brand loyalty to), and TT is working through a hummy gummy situation. Both are in decent spirits. TT has also been gifted, by her son and his partner, a book called *420 Things You Can Draw While High*, which has become a legitimate source of joy — she drew a Girl Scout brownie in a crystal sundae dish, which is genuinely perfect, and a spliff rocket, because she knows how to make a spliff and wanted to put that knowledge to use. Queenie suggests she share her drawings on the pod. We are on board with this.From there, the news portion arrives, and it's a bummer, as news tends to be. TT brings up a Louisiana bill signed by the governor that tacks on up to a year in jail and a thousand-dollar fine for anyone caught smoking, vaping, or consuming cannabis within two thousand feet of a school — which, given how schools are distributed across a populated state, essentially means a significant chunk of private homes qualify. Dorms too. Both women note the particular absurdity of layering additional criminal penalties onto something that's already illegal in Louisiana, seemingly in service of a "drug-free school zone" philosophy that has historically functioned less as child protection and more as an excuse to put people back in jail. Queenie points out that New York allows cannabis consumption anywhere cigarettes are permitted, and both agree that the Louisiana approach has a lot more to do with politics and performative toughness than any genuine public safety interest.This slides, as it reliably does on this pod, into broader political territory. E. Jean Carroll comes up — TT and Queenie both clearly appalled by what they're watching unfold with the retaliatory lawsuit behavior. Then: the Kennedy Center, the gilded bronze horses on the Arlington bridge (twenty-two-point-four carat gold, paid for by taxpayers, which Queenie cannot get over), the reflecting pool, the UFC fighting ring being erected on federal grounds, the music festival that now apparently features Kid Rock and a lot of empty slots. Queenie delivers what may be the episode's thesis: "There is no bottom for this guy. There is no bottom." They eventually, consciously, make themselves stop. There is a lot they could say. They choose not to spend all their energy there.Then comes TT's Choice, the either/or/what-if game. TT pulls number 33: *What if you could unmeet one person from your life? No hard feelings, they just never happened.* TT goes first and doesn't hesitate long — she wants to unmeet Lou, a man who entered her family's life as a business partner for her husband and proceeded to steal the company out from under him. She's still carrying rancor about it. She admits she was charmed by him at the initial meeting — charismatic, smooth talker — and believes she might have talked her husband out of the deal if she'd never met the man. Queenie nominates a former daughter-in-law, and the word she uses is "unredeeming," meaning the person brought nothing — nothing — into the lives of anyone around her. Whole family affected. She doesn't need much time to arrive at this answer either.What's interesting is where the conversation goes after the nominations: both women start circling the idea that holding onto this kind of bitterness is, functionally, still letting those people win. Queenie quotes her mother — "he who angers you controls you" — and means it. They land somewhere honest: it's hard to let go, but anger takes energy, and energy is finite and worth protecting. TT resolves to do a little ceremony. Burn something in effigy. Smudge it out. They've both mostly let it go, mostly. The "mostly" is doing a lot of work there, and they know it, and that's okay.The Fuck It List lands on high heels, and it's a full prosecution. TT wore chunky heels to an outdoor ceremony recently — had to dig them out from the top of the closet, climb a stool to reach them — and spent the day tottering around paying for it. Her new Skechers have elastic laces and she is evangelical about them. Queenie surrendered heels years ago on account of her feet and has not looked back. Together they trace the whole origin of the heel as a beauty construct: it's about making women's legs look longer, which is about appealing to the male gaze, which connects to makeup, to plastic surgery, to everything related to looking "good"! Trump responded by posting he has "no interest" in the Kennedy Center anymore and threatening to cancel his own America 250 celebration, which is already in freefall after nearly every performer dropped out once they realized it was Trump's birthday rally and not the legitimate congressional celebration — leaving Vanilla Ice, Kid Rock, and eventually Trump himself as the headline act for anyone who paid $1.5 million for a VIP package expecting a concert. On the Iran beat, Trump is requesting edits to the deal his own negotiators already agreed to, with a senior official explaining the response will take three days because…caves. The Delaney Hall ICE detention center in Newark escalated to a mandatory curfew for the surrounding half-mile, with ICE in riot gear pepper spraying protesters while detainees continue a 10-day hunger strike over conditions that remain uncorrected. Pam Bondi's Epstein testimony was exactly as useless as expected — she blamed Todd Blanche, refused to answer Trump-related questions, and wasn't under oath — so the House Oversight Committee is now going after Blanche directly. In AI-is-a-scam news, a Pizza Hut franchisee is suing corporate for $100 million after a mandatory AI rollout tanked delivery times, and Starbucks scrapped its AI inventory system after nine months because it could not count milk — hallucinating bottles that weren't there — which is a real thing that happened with technology that costs more than a person with eyes. But of course, he did: Trump is having the DOJ launch a criminal investigation on his rape victim, E. Jean Carroll. But of course, it is: This investigation is a major headache for Senate Gops. A judge has temporarily blocked Trump from ladling out slush to his Jan 6 troopers, while fraud charges are being investigated against him.  Kilmar Abrego Garcia is not guilty again and again, while probably never to actually go free. Joe Biden has plenty of reasons to sue the DOJ and has picked one. Trump refiles his lawsuit against the Wall Street Journal, because he can. Shhh… Samuel Alito's son has been quietly working for Trump's Treasury department. History's biggest pyramid scheme might not be propping up America's economy for much longer.

Trump threatens to attack Oman, intervened to score another $640 million for Junior, and $13.1 million for his pool boy. He wants to jail his rape victim, E. Jean Carroll.

The Supreme Court heard oral arguments in the case of Trump v. Barbara regarding President Trump's executive order issued on his first day in office, which seeks to limit birthright citizenship under the 14th Amendment by denying automatic U.S. citizenship to children born in the United States if their parents are undocumented or present on a temporary basis.
