We have hit the dog days of summer, but the recruiting news never stops, especially with Mario and this staff! Cam gives us all of the latest news on the class of 2027, and we look ahead to the class of 2028. The Beast wants to know why a player in the state of Florida would choose any school other than Miami. FSU has it tough right now. We aren't upset. Segment two brings us to a poignant question: If Miami can negotiate well, and the financials make sense, should the Canes stay in the ACC simply because the road to the playoff might be easier than in the B1G or SEC? Also, what the hell was the Big 12 thinking? Their Monster energy drink deal seems......underwhelming. And we give you the latest on the Canes baseball team, including some additions. Please check out all the great work Cam and his staff do at StateOfTheU. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. The countdown of Florida State's 40 Most Important Players for the 2026 season has concluded. Diving into the yearly exercise is always worthwhile to get a better sense of the roster and how we perceive strengths and weaknesses. This list was highlighted by a crystalizing moment midway through sifting among the candidates as it felt like depth fell off a cliff. It was an interesting experience to discover in real-time. This is what we came up with as Trey Rowland led the charge, Brendan Sonnone set the parameters, and the X's and Noles fellas sorted the order with Kolby Crawford chiming in. Here's a listen to how we composed the 40 Most Important Players. You can subscribe to On The Bench, X's and Noles, and Beyond The Bench on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts and Spotify. As always, five-star reviews and comments on Apple Podcasts are appreciated! Also, you can watch the show on YouTube now. Host Dave Fiore sits down with Jim Hunt, founder of Serve Strong and a familiar presence in Tallahassee's business and civic community for nearly three decades. Jim will tell you he is a relationship person first. The job titles just kind of followed. Jim grew up a military kid, moving every four or five years before his family settled in Melbourne Beach. He came to FSU planning on law school and took a part-time teller job at Capital City Bank that turned into a career that lasted two decades. Then one thing led to the next — the commercial internet before most people knew what a website was, time in marketing at the Moore Agency and 223, and even a stint helping bring cloud computing to Tallahassee. Along the way he chaired United Way of the Big Bend, led Leadership Tallahassee and served on boards across the city. Not because it was good for business, but because he watched his parents serve their community growing up. Last year he launched Serve Strong, a leadership and strategic advisory, and landed his first client before he had told anyone what he was doing. Dave and Jim talk about service, community and what it looks like to build a career around other people and then figure out what comes next.
