Zomertijd is aangebroken!
Hi everyone, happy Tuesday! I'm not a huge gamer, but even I know what a big deal Ashly Burch is in the video game world. She has voiced so many beloved and iconic characters, including Aloy in Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West, Chloe Price in Life is Strange and Tiny Tina in Borderlands 2 and 3. She's also had a fascinating career as an actor, writer and director starting when she created Hey Ash, Whatcha Playin'? with her brother Anthony and progressing to writing and/or directing on Side Quest, Mythic Quest and Adventuretime, among others. She is crazy talented and also so smart when it comes to her work and the future of the industry. We talk about AI, mental health and what it was like to grow up in Arizona the daughter of an immigrant and fall in love with video games. I had such a good time talking to Ashly and I hope you enjoy our conversation! Be sure to stick around for the Hindsight, where Jeph and I talk about the parallels between the Sci-Fi and video game fan culture and answer some of your questions from the Mailsack! We're taking you from the streets of Dallas all the way to the mountains of Kovir in our last side quest of the season. Newly returned from a trip to Texas, we discuss why we were there (it involves a bit of Witcher and a whole lot of whiskey) before we tear into this year's Witcher-less Tudum. After that, we enter the world of gaming with a ten-year tribute to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and why even now we just can't say no to Cerys. Finally, we wrap things up with a deep dive into the gorgeous new Witcher 4 tech demo in which we savor the breathtaking graphics as well as Ciri's newfound sassiness. It's a fun, free flowing episode that unlike a certain recent streaming live event, is filled to the brim with Witcher goodness! Hold music: "Local Forecast - Slower" by Kevin MacLeod

In 2021, Witcher fan Ja'Nya Hashi found themself flying overseas to spend four days at The Witcher School, the long-running, now sadly defunct Witcher Live Action Role-Playing (LARP) experience set at a remote castle in Poland. Was dressing up and pretending to be a Witcher-in-training something that was thrilling, confusing...or just a whole lot of cringe? In our newest side quest, we welcome Nya to our studio to find out! Over a couple of Old Fashioneds, Nya discusses their Witcher School experience, from sneaking around the castle's secret passages late at night, to the surprisingly terrifying Nekker hunt, to surviving the oddly relaxing Trial of the Grasses. It's a fascinating, fun glimpse at a Witcher experience unlike any other—where survival (at least for your character) isn't always guaranteed.

Behind every pixel, mechanic, and character design lies a hidden battlefield where intellectual property law shapes the games we play. From energy drinks to tattoos, the unlikely legal showdowns that define modern gaming are stranger than fiction.Play IP Sidequest Showdown. An escape-room-style game inspired by this episode. Drop a comment if you cracked the code. Monster Energy's aggressive pursuit of any game title containing the word "monster" forced Ubisoft to abandon "Gods and Monsters" despite zero connection to beverages. When NBA 2K rendered LeBron James's tattoos with perfect detail, the copyright holders demanded millions—only to have the courts rule that realistic depictions qualify as fair use. And who knew that the shattered glass texture in Resident Evil was actually a photographer's copyrighted work, leading to one of the largest copyright claims ever filed by a single artist against a game studio? The patent wars are equally fascinating. Nintendo secured a $30 million settlement from fellow Japanese developer Colopl over touch controls—yes, the way your finger moves across a screen can be proprietary. Sega claimed ownership of gacha mechanics where duplicate characters fuse to unlock abilities. And Palworld's "Pokémon with guns" approach triggered Nintendo's legal team to pursue patent infringement rather than the expected copyright route.Even legends aren't immune. Diego Maradona discovered his likeness in Pro Evolution Soccer without permission, leading to a lawsuit that transformed into a sponsorship deal. Meanwhile, Call of Duty successfully defended using Humvees in-game without a license, establishing crucial First Amendment protections for realistic depictions in interactive entertainment. These cases reveal the invisible forces shaping what makes it to our screens. Next time you're playing your favorite game, remember that behind every design decision might be a legal battle that determined not just how the game looks, but how it fundamentally works. The gaming industry's most consequential battles happen in courtrooms, not on our screens.Ready to explore more? Remember to try our IP Sidequest Showdown game on our website and see if you can navigate the legal labyrinth yourself.Send us a text

You can watch Austin play through this section of the game right here. After T3-M4 and 3C-FD (who we're all sure will be very important throughout the game) managed to repair the Ebon Hawk, it and its unconscious crewmembers--the so called "last of the Jedi" and a mysterious robed woman named Kreia--have come to in the abandoned Peragus Mining Facility. Well. Mostly abandoned. There is the matter of the sneering (but surprisingly aware) scoundrel Atton... and the droids. So many droids. Hallways and hallways of droids. Taking a break from talking about terrible movies based on video games, Mark, Nick, Chazzee, and Andy explore the world of video games released to coincide with movie releases - their history from the the 80's through the golden age of the 90's and into the doldrums of the 2000's, why they aren't made any more, and what are our favourites. This episode of Light Gaming is La Croix: Medieval flavor at best this week when Jerome and Alex discuss of Nancy Drew: The Haunting of Castle Malloy, and only because the writers went absolutely medieval on this extremely loose adaptation of The Bike Tour Mystery. To liven things up, they bring back an old favorite and talk about some of their Side Quests! Hint: they're both very French, except for the one that's not.Enjoying Light Gaming? The squad welcomes UC Joff (aka Oochie Walle) to the studio, kicking things off with an inside look at his experience on Artlette's viral "Pop the Balloon" YouTube series before diving into his upcoming music projects. The ice breaker sparks immediate debate with a provocative parenting question: Would you rather have a daughter who's a "2/10" or a "10/10" on the attractiveness scale? The responses reveal much about each host's values and concerns. The music scene brings heat: Millyz delivers with "Blanco 7," Wiz Khalifa revisits a classic with "Kush And OJ 2," Mozzy gets introspective with "Intrusive Thoughts," Davido drops "5ive," Kanye keeps it in the family with "Cousins," and Tommy Richmond links with Sexyy Red for "Acting Up." The news cycle is wild: Ye controversy erupts, R. Kelly's unusual phone performances from prison raise eyebrows, Shannon Sharpe faces legal troubles, the world mourns Pope Francis, and the NBA playoffs keep everyone talking. Things get deep in relationships as UC Joff joins the squad tackling some thought-provoking questions: How family dynamics influence toxic relationships, how many heartbreaks one can endure, the politics of competitive play with your partner, the risks of ex-friendships, and finding the balance between compromise and identity loss. With UC Joff bringing both entertainment industry experience and musical perspective, this episode delivers the perfect blend of insider stories, music analysis, and relationship real talk that's made JSC your weekly must-listen! #JSC #PopTheBalloon #RelationshipTalk #kanyewest #celebritynews #drake #musicindustryinsights CHAPTERS: 00:00 - Intro 00:54 - Joe Budden Podcast Ensemble Review & Queenz Flip Blocks Ape on Social Media 05:28 - Welcome OOCHIE WALLE! 06:49 - Oochie on Arlette's Pop The Balloon Show (Episode 45) 16:36 - What Type of Drake Do You Like? 30:00 - Would You Rather Have a 2/10 or 10/10 Daughter? 39:30 - Tommy Richmond & Sexy Red Single Review 52:53 - Mozzy - Intrusive Thoughts 1:04:00 - Millyz Drops Blanco 7 Album 1:17:45 - Wiz Khalifa Kush & OJ 2 Drops 1:24:10 - Freestyling vs Writing 1:26:11 - Music's Longevity Factors 1:30:48 - Kanye West - Cousins Review 1:39:44 - Kanye's Controversial Tweets 1:48:23 - R.
