The BarcaBreakdown discuss the 30 man short list for the Ballon D'oR, as Lionel Messi looks clear to pick up his 7th golden ball this winter. Unfortunately, only 1 FC Barcelona player appeared on the list, which was the Golden Boy of the Euros, Pedri! We discuss the likely top 3 for the award, along with the lack of FC Barcelona players and those who we believe should be on the list like Frenkie De Jong and Memphis Depay. The BarcaBreakdown discuss what is stopping Lionel Messi from winning the 2021 Ballon D'Or. Answer: NOTHING! After being the top scorer, assister, best player, and CHAMPION of the 2021 Copa America, Lionel Messi looks clear to take home his 7th Ballon D'or to the Camp Nou and FC Barcelona/Argentina fans. As ESPNFC covered earlier this summer, nothing will stop Messi due to his outrageous 2021 and finally breaking the curse and winning an international title for Argentina. We discuss the possible reasons Messi may not win. For one, Robert Lewandowski should rightfully have on the 2020 award. We worry he may get some votes as compensation for the fact that France Football not awarding the Ballon d'Or in 2020. We also think voter fatigue might set in, so that some may not want to keep giving Messi the same award year after year. Jorginho also has a case, as he was the winner of the Champions League with Chelsea, and the Euros with Italy. N'golo Kante also won with Chelsea and was a favorite, but France's poor performance at the Euros leave his hopes in major doubt. Karim Benzema has also made a name for himself for the Ballon D'oR this year with his wonderful play for Real Madrid and France Overall, we think Messi should walk away easy with the award. Captain, Copa America Champion, Copa Del Rey Champion, and undoubtedly the best player of 2021 (and of all time). Please like, comment and subscribe to our channel! On today's episode, Jason kicks things off by breaking a little personal news - the Saturday morning FOX Sports Radio show is coming to an end. With this podcast in full swing and his role expanding at FOXSports.com, it just wouldn't have been fair to the fans to continue putting together a show that was clearly lower on the list of priorities. Next, Jason takes a quick verbal victory lap following Conor McGregor's first round loss to Dustin Poirier on Saturday night. We tried to tell you: Conor is WASHED. Even before his leg broke it was clear that he was headed towards another loss. Later, Jason does a deep dive on the epic climax to the Summer of Soccer that he's been pumping up for weeks. Messi powered Argentina to the Copa America championship and thus cemented his status as one the greatest to ever do it, but the bigger story was the England choke in their Euro 2020 championship loss to Italy. What were they thinking throwing their young guns out there so late in the game? They never really got a chance to settle into the action so it's no surprise that nerves got the better of them in penalty kicks. Finally, Jason does a deep dive into the Milwaukee Bucks' blowout victory over the Phoenix Suns in Game 3 of the NBA Finals. We tried to tell you last week that the Bucks were a lock to win this one. Giannis Antetokounmpo has been beasting on the inside all series, and with the home crowd giving Khris Middleton and Jrue Holiday the boost they needed, Milwaukee is suddenly back in this series. Thankfully for the Suns, with both teams getting a few days off before Game 4, Chris Paul and Devin Booker should be able to play extended minutes (and keep the weak Suns bench players stuck on the pine) in hopes of regaining control of the series. Italy are European champions. Jimbo, Carl Anka, James Horncastle, Raphael Honigstein, David Preece and Daniel Storey review a wonderful night for the Azzurri but a heart-breaking night for England who lose on penalties at Wembley. Gareth Southgate's side take a very early lead but are pegged back and worn down by their opponent. Like the 2018 World Cup semi-final but worse. It's an inspirational group of players but in hindsight, did England throw this Euros away? And did they play that much football in the tournament? As for Italy, we salute a team that every other team made changes to their system for. And of course, they had the amazing Chiellini. The star of this Italy team and finally a European champion.
