LAFC and Portland play to a 3-3 draw in a match that was just as frenetic and unpredictable as the entire week was for LAFC. Amid the backdrop of 'Dolo's announcement, LAFC responds on the road for a point.LAFC saw themselves down, 2-0, after just over 40'. Backs to the wall, LAFC stepped up for the first time in 2025, rallying to level the match twice to earn the point. Denis Bouanga was a man on fire, scoring the eventual leveler off a PK, having two called back for offside, and a couple of other great opportunities stifled by James Pantemis. Also on this episode, Olivier Giroud produces a BANGER of a goal to open his MLS account, Lafferty tags in and then back out, and Scarf is still not "slim fit." Welcome in for another edition of the Morning Espresso from the SDH Network, brought to you by Oglethorpe University, Atlanta's premier undergraduate learning experience and soccer powerhouse.FIFA President Gianni Infantino, along with City of Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens and AMBSE President Tim Zulawski, spoke to the media yesterday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium and visiting the West End MARTA Station Soccer project. They discussed the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup, FIFA's donation of $1M for youth projects to cities hosting Club World Cup games, Atlanta's chances of hosting the Women's World Cup final in 2031, and how FIFA will resolve the final spot in the Club World Cup after Club León were removed. Check out the reel on our Instagram or the short on our YouTube channel for highlights from the press conference.Barcelona and PSG have substantial leads going into their Champions League matches today, but both have to go on the road to finish it out. Unai Emery will be looking for personal revenge against Luis Enrique for La Remontada in which then his PSG was overrun by Luis Enrique's Barcelona in the second leg in 2017 after a 4-0 win in the first leg. Emery's Aston Villa has a better chance than Dortmund today, but it would be a huge shock. Arsenal will try to become the 44th team to advance after taking a margin of 3 or more goals into the second leg in Champions League history, versus 4 times that leader lost the tie in the second leg. The last time it happened, 2019 as Liverpool came back at Anfield against Barcelona. Barcelona are still trying to finish the construction project at the Spotify Camp Nou, now rushing to get the special VIP seats constructed that were "reportedly" sold to unnamed Middle Eastern businesses for €100m. They need these completed in order to receive a delivery receipt in order to then (for the second time after it was thrown out the first time) account for the sale on their books and increase their salary limit. They did this in January which allowed them to register Dani Olmo and Pau Victor on appeal, but then that accounting was thrown out by La Liga, but appeals have allowed Olmo and Victor to continue to be registered, and yeah my head is spinning too. The club is hoping to have the stadium ready to play in before Champions League matches next season, but I wouldn't book flights just yet.The coaching carousel in Brazil has claimed Pedro Caixinha at Santos and Jorge Samapoli, who got spun off the carousel in France at Rennes, might return for another stint at the club. Iraq is looking for a new manager as they try to qualify for their first World Cup since 1986 as they have fired Jesus Casas following poor results in the last round of qualifiers. Plenty more in the podcast below on Club World Cup, the US Open Cup, the USMNT, and more. Check it out!More Espresso on Thursday on the SDH Network, presented by Oglethorpe University.

Here on Episode 355, two streaks come to an end as, hopefully, one starts. It's a solo Scarf endeavor here on Defenders of the Banc, as he breaks down LAFC's 2-1 victory over the Earthquakes. A scoreless but entertaining first half gave way to fireworks in the second, with LAFC getting on the board just past the hour mark. The rebound from Denis Bouanga's shot found the foot of Sergi Palencia, who teed one up perfectly from the top of the box to score his first goal in 2,888 days! That's even before Defenders of the Banc started! Yikes!About 20 minutes later, Denis Bouanga would end a streak of his own, getting his first MLS regular season goal since last October, giving LAFC a 2-0 lead, and it's a good thing he did! Cristian Espinoza went ahead and did Cristian Espinoza things for SJ, scoring in stoppage to give SJ life, but LAFC saw out the final minutes without issue for the 2-1 win. Also on this episode, we compliment Olivier Giroud's effort, several times, while hoping that all goes well with Maxime Chanot. It's a relatively quick one, and definitely a fun one here on Episode 355. Enjoy!

We're covering a ton of ground on this episode of The Best Soccer Show. Jason starts by dropping news of the Gold Cup draw for this summer. The USMNT goes into the continental tournament needing to improve dramatically under Mauricio Pochettino after a poor Nations League. Dan Vaughn of Protagonist Soccer to talk about the draw, tell us about his 23 USMNT shirts (23????), and discuss split allegiances in his soccer household. Then Dan hangs around to discuss the big USL Championship TV ratings from the weekend. WHAT DOES IT MEAN???? More than 750k watched second division soccer on Sunday. BOOM TIMES BABY. Then Dan and Jason discuss the news that MLS owners tabled a vote on switching the league calendar to the fall-to-spring version used in most of Europe. Finally, Dan leaves and Jason heads into a review of the state of the American player in MLS and whether the league should do more to center Americans in its on-field product. How does Liga MX do it with Mexican players? That leads into a review of 28 MLS teams (Toronto and Montreal get left out) and their efforts to grow players that could ultimately held the USMNT. It's Episode 354, and it's a collapse of epic proportions, as LAFC goes to Miami, takes a 2-0 aggregate lead WITH the tiebreaker, only to squander it all away, losing 3-1 to Messi and Inter Miami and crashing out of the 2025 CCC. Ugh.Things looked great for the Black and Gold early, as captain Aaron Long reported for duty, scoring a chaotic 9' goal to give the boys an early lead, and the tiebreaker. That's about where the good news ends. Miami scores three unanswered, including two from Lionel Messi. Denis Bouanga missed or squandered a series of great chances, including one in second-half stoppage, and that proved to be the undoing for LAFC in the CCC. SEVEN, yes, seven big chances missed for LAFC. Miami wins the match, 3-1, and wins the aggregate, 3-2, to advance to the semis. Also on this match, Scarf is back from Costa Rica, Filly suffers no fools lightly when it comes to Dolo out, and Laff harkens back to his LAFC debut as part of This Date In LAFC History. Enjoy 354!
It's unfortunately an emphatic L pod as the Seattle Sounders went down to sunny San Diego, CA and got routed 3-0 by San Diego FC. We break it all down in our game review, hit our Agena Check, then mercifully move onto some league-wide coverage where we give our winners and losers from Matchday 7 in MLS.Later on we discuss the pipe dream of Kevin De Bruyne one day coming to Seattle (before we saw the news that Inter Miami actually have his discovery rights).SPONSORSHaxan Ferments - Specializing in unique, small-batch fermented hot sauces and vinegars, Haxan Ferments is handcrafted in Georgetown and made with the best local ingredients from across the Pacific Northwest. David Mosse and special guest Doug McIntyre break down the U.S. Women's National Team's first loss to Brazil since 2014. Emma Hayes rolled out the squad's youngest starting lineup in 26 years as she continues to prioritize progress and expanding the player pool over short-term success. Mauricio Pochettino on the other hand, has half the time to finalize World Cup rosters and far fewer wins with the national team. Is it Gold Cup title or bust for the USMNT and Pochettino? The USMNT coaching staff will continue their scouting tour and spend time with MLS players and teams ahead of the next window. To wrap the show, Mosse and Doug recap Messi's heroics in the CONCACAF Champions Cup, and Declan Rice's spectacular free kicks in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League.
