Tom Eblen discusses it with Cassie Chambers Armstrong, author of an Atlantic critique of the film, as well as a new book detailing her perspective on growing up in Appalachian Kentucky. The Mountain Minor is a film that explores how eastern Kentuckians who migrated to the Cincinnati area brought their unique music with them. Lee Hay welcomes to the studio some of the people involved in the production: writer/director Dale Farmer and local musicians Ma Crow and Mike Oberst from the band, The Tillers. The film will air on KET public television on Friday, July 24 at 9 p.m.

The movie, "The Mountain Minor," is coming to the Esquire Theatre on Thursday, October 17th and Sunday, October 20th at 7pm each evening. There's a q&a session after each showing and an after party at Sitwell's on Thursday evening with live music, too. The director, Dale Farmer , and two of the actor/musicians Ma Crow and Mike Oberst from the Tillers came into the studio this morning to talk about this film. The film was shot in North Carolina for the most part with some scenes in Eaton, Oxford and the Southgate House Revival in Newport. Dale cast real musicians for acting roles in this story about an Appalachian family who came to Cincinnati for jobs and brought their music with them. The plot's based on Dale's grandparents' story which is also the story for many of us in the area. The film's made the film festival route and has garnered awards, but Thursday night is the premiere of "The Mountain Minor" movie which resonates with those who have seen it to the point of bringing

THE HOWLIN' BROTHERS are a three-piece string band that brings heart and passion into every performance. Their upbeat shows are heavy with original and traditional music, featuring the sounds of slide banjo, harmonica and old-time fiddle. Their latest album “HOWL� produced by Brendan Benson (The Raconteurs) and released on Benson�s label Readymade Records. Ma Crow and The Lady Slippers is an all-female band from Cincinnati, Ohio, and a 2013 Cincinnati Entertainment Award nominee featuring Bluegrass, Americana, and Old-time Mountain music. Ma Crow is a legendary acoustic artist in the Cincinnati area, a CAMMY (a Cincinnati Grammy) award winner, and a multi-nominee for the Cincinnati Entertainment Awards. The band just released their first CD Wayward Daughter.
