Oh, my… Light your candles… Burn your incense… Spin your Evanescence or Enya CDs… Break out your Turkey Baster and Johnson's Baby Body Lotion with Vanilla and Oat Extract… because here in Episode 170 of Jay of the Dead's New Horror Movies, it is time for all of us to enjoy "A Very Special Evening Together With Mister Watson." That's right! Back in August 2025, Air-Buddies Mister Watson and Jay of the Dead took a couple of misspent hours and brought you tons of Horror talk as they trade Horror-related "Concept Discussions" back and forth, concluding with a Feature Review of Together (2025). For those who haven't heard our sister Horror show, Horror Movie Weekly, this particular episode of NHM will give a great sense of it. During this show, you will learn the reason why Jay of the Dead and Mister Watson both prefer the Theatrical Cuts of most movies, and you will even hear Watson conjure a Ron Martin quote. Hope he didn't feel dirty afterward… The guys also talk about the day-late-and-a-dollar-short addenda for the M3GAN movies, the overdone trope of "Little Miss Mood-itude," and a few other Horror-related topics. Happy Halloween 2025! In this electrifying Halloween Special, Jay of the Dead and Mackula welcome esteemed guest, Dr. Rick Moody, retired film professor and first-time podcaster, for a very controversial and unconventional "count-up" of their Revised Top 10 All-Time Best Horror Movies! Dr. Moody is one of Jay of the Dead's mentors, and he was also the film professor of three Horror Avengers: Jay, Mackula and Dr. Walking Dead Kyle Bishop! Doc Moody was formerly more into disturbing Horror movies but has since mellowed in recent years. Even so, he remains a big fan and connoisseur of Found Footage and lesser-known Horror content found on YouTube! But back to this show… As Doc Moody would say, Episode 168 "delivers the goods" with not one but three Top 10 lists, and trust us, you've never heard all-time favorite Horror lists like these before! Y'all are probably gonna have kittens! Along the way, the hosts pay tribute to the late Diane Keaton, discuss Shelley Duvall as Mackula's "cinema mom," and reflect on the eerie setting of this episode, as it was recorded during an atmospheric and formidable, Utah thunderstorm. As each movie pick is revealed, the conversation meanders off into relevant and random tangents about some of Horror's dark corners, such as "Experiential Horror." During this show, we also reveal which Horror Avenger longs to moonlight as a "ghost therapist." Listeners will even hear about Mackula's past ambitions as an actor; his live, on-air freak-out over fingernail tapping at his window; and an impromptu cameo from Dr. Moody's cat, "Mimi." With humor, insight, and devil-may-care-giving-zero-effs attitudes, these three Horror fans celebrate some notable contenders of the Horror genre (as well as some shocking selections outside of it). As Dr. Moody reminds us, "A really good Horror movie is something you'd never wanna see." Note: This episode was recorded during an appreciable thunderstorm in Utah County, on October 11, 2025, the day actress Diane Keaton died. Our resident firebrand, Ron Martin, presents Part 4 of 4 of his solocast series titled The Great Halloween Experiment, in which he investigates whether watching random horror films throughout October heightens his Halloween enjoyment. To explore this, he watches and reviews 31 horror movies — none of which he's seen before — selected from his personal Blu-ray collection, new theatrical releases, and VOD selections. While cultivating a proper "Halloween atmosphere," Ron delivers 31 Mini Horror Movie Reviews of these films, many of them new releases, combining his Infamous Horror Myth-Busting analysis with the question at the heart of the project: Does immersing oneself in random Horror movies truly enrich one's Halloween spirit? If Marvel and DC are the big 2 and Superman and Spidey represent them then Image Comics is certainly number 3 and representing them would most certainly be Todd McFarlanes' 1992 creation SPAWN. The story of government assassin Al Simmons and his deal with the devil that made him into Hellspawn caught the eye of HBO Animation in the late 90s. Tonight we take a look at season 1 so turn out your lights!!
Jay of the Dead'sNew Horror Movies presents… the 55th Edition of the world's greatest Zombie Movie Podcast — Dead Man Still Walking, starring Dr. Walking Dead Kyle Bishop! In this fascinating and unexpectedly subversive episode, Dr. Bishop welcomes special guest Jay of the Dead to explore the surprising horror history of “The Purple Smurfs” (yes, those Smurfs!) and their uncanny place in zombie canon. This is a must-listen for fans of zombie cinema. Likely inspired somewhat by Richard Matheson's novel, “I Am Legend” (1954) — yet before George Romero's shambling ghouls — there existed a little-known, infected-zombie narrative within the Belgian comic, Les Schtroumpfs Noirs (“The Black Smurfs”) from 1959, later wisely adapted for American audiences in 1963 as “The Purple Smurfs.” What seems like a simple children's story reveals shocking thematic roots in infection, rage, and apocalypse, complete with an urgent race to find a cure. Dr. Bishop herein declares, “Yes, the Purple Smurfs are zombies.” Also during Episode 166 here, Jay and Kyle dive deep into both the original comic source material and the adapted, 1981 TV episode — part of a Halloween special featuring “The Haunted Smurf” as well as “The Purple Smurfs” — unpacking how the latter's infection narrative even precedes films like “The Crazies” (1973), “Rabid” (1977), and “28 Days Later” (2002). They discuss the sociocultural implications, from 1980s “Satanic Panic” anxieties to the comic's troubling racial undertones in its early form. Jay playfully speculates whether the story serves as a bizarre, STD cautionary tale — and even debuts his first-ever Horror trailer for The Purple Smurfs (1981) TV episode! As for Dr. Bishop's favorite color? You just might find the answer buried somewhere in this delightfully twisted episode of Dead Man Still Walking. Gnap! Gnap! With all the movies that Ron Martin dislikes, would you to interested to learn about a movie that Ron calls “one of the worst films he's ever seen in his life,” earning a well-deserved place of shame among his Bottom 10 Horror Movies list? Well, you're in luck. This episode is Part 3 of Ron Martin's four-part, October solocast, The Great Halloween Experiment! You see, dear listener, throughout this Halloween month, Ron has single-handedly produced for all of us four special solo episodes, one per week, leading up to the week of Halloween! The premise behind Ron's Great Halloween Experiment is this: Does watching random Horror films during the Halloween season enhance a Horror fan's overall enjoyment and Halloween spirit? To explore this question, Ron has committed to watching 31 Horror films — not necessarily Halloween-themed ones, but a completely random assortment of movies from across the genre. Ron does his due diligence by creating “a Halloween atmosphere” in which to enjoy these films. Another rule he has set for himself is these reviews have to be of Horror films that Ron has never seen before. His picks might come from his personal Blu-ray and DVD collection, new theater releases, or streaming on VOD. And on October 30, be sure you don't miss Jay of the Dead's special surprise Halloween episode where he, Mackula, and their film professor, Dr. Moody, reveal their UPDATED lists of their Top 10 All-Time Best Horror Movies! This week on the Toy Power Podcast; we are still sending 'Get Well' Cards to Trent, as he unfortunately misses this ep. But that won't slow us down; as Scot has a fantastic rundown on the Greatest Star Wars Movie - that never was! Yes - the infamous 'Shadows Of The Empire!' Famously worked into 'cannon' between the Original Films of: Empire Strikes Back & Return Of The Jedi. This wasn't just a Story or a Comicbook series - this was a Multimedia Project that also spanned into a Soundtrack, Video Games and of course a self-titled line of Toys! Was, or is this, the biggest Movie that never was?! Then keeping in the same similar theme of Movies; we transform into another round of The Team! With this round focusing on the Autobots that where released in 1986 (The Movie Year). This was a lot of fun! It's the spookiest month of the year, and everyone's favorite Horror Avenger, Ron Martin, is back with Part 2 of his four-part, October solocast, The Great Halloween Experiment! Throughout October 2025, Ron is releasing four special solo episodes, one each week, leading up to Halloween! The premise behind The Great Halloween Experiment is simple but fascinating: Does watching random Horror films during the Halloween season enhance a Horror fan's overall enjoyment and Halloween spirit? To find out, Ron has committed to watching 31 Horror films — not necessarily Halloween-themed ones, but a completely random assortment of movies from across the genre. The Contrary Horror Avenger is determined to find out if that magical, macabre October feeling can still come alive through any Horror movies. In this Part 2 of 4, Ron delivers eight Horror movie mini reviews, complete with his ratings and recommendations. Oh, and stick with us this month because on October 30, watch for Jay of the Dead's special surprise Halloween episode where he, Mackula, and their film professor, Dr. Moody, reveal their UPDATED lists of their Top 10 All-Time Best Horror Movies! Enjoy! Be sure to subscribe to Jay of the Dead's new Horror movie podcast on: Apple PodcastsSpotifyDeezer You are welcome to email our show at HauntingYourHeadphones@gmail.com. Zach Poulter was raised amidst the sagebrush and potato fields of rural Idaho. His childhood was spent exploring the nearby Snake River, volcanic buttes, sagebrush desert, and the many abandoned homes and vehicles lodged in unexpected places by a catastrophic flood. He now lives the glamorous lifestyle of a middle school band teacher, and also freelances as a saxophonist and composer. When not teaching and making music, he writes all varieties of speculative fiction, with a special affinity for dark, suspenseful fantasy and hopeful horror. Zach lives in Utah with his marvelous wife, four clever children, and not-quite-enough saxophones. Brenda Posey was only three years old when she witnessed aliens invading from the sky over her own front yard. Even though the spaceships turned out to be spotlights on clouds, nothing could dampen her excitement over the question: “What if?” Growing up in Huntsville, Alabama, listening to the earth-rumbling sounds of rocket engines being tested, she dreamed up additional “what ifs.” A few of those questions inspired her to write science fiction short stories in high school and college. “What if” then led her to pursue degrees in both biology and computer science. After working as a researcher and programmer, she left the corporate world to raise two awesome kids with her also-awesome husband. Reading her husband's extensive, slightly dusty library of classic science fiction novels opened a whole new world of “what ifs” for her. She returned to writing, drawing on her background in the sciences to craft her own versions of reality. When not plotting novels and short stories, Brenda can be found rehabbing a mid-century house, forging hot steel into almost-recognizable objects, advocating for Oxford commas, and singing in choir. She continues to watch the skies at night because… well… What if aliens actually show up? Following the 1982 release of his internationally acclaimed bestselling science fiction novel, Battlefield Earth, written in celebration of 50 years as a professional writer, L. Ron Hubbard created the Writers of the Future (writersofthefuture.com) in 1983 to provide a means for aspiring writers of speculative fiction to get that much-needed break. Due to the success of the Writers of the Future Contest, the companion Illustrators of the Future Contest was inaugurated five years later.

Strap in for part two of Nathan's coverage of Dark Horse Comics' 2003 Ultraman Tiga manga, because “The TsuBro” goes on a pair of “Rantmasters”! This comic started off strong but quickly derailed into Todd McFarlane-fueled madness. There's an alien villain from the TV series who's radically re-imagined as a bad clone of Clown/Violator from Spawn. And he's suddenly replaced in the final issue by a new villain, Kyrieloid, who looks like he did in the show, but he's otherwise nothing like him. But nothing—nothing—can prepare you for the out-of-pocket fourth wall break. Even Deadpool is confused. Time to dive into some esoteric Ultra insanity! New discussion episodes are coming! This episode is late! That's because, as you will hear in the recording, my internet was just going down and up the whole evening when we started recording. The episode is slightly jankier than usual, but I think it's tolerable. On Peacemaker we find out about Earth X's Auggie, a bunch of cops die, the two Vigilantes delight, Judomaster steals every scene he's in and things on the Nazi Earth come to a real head. We also discuss whether or not James Gunn blew it with this season's pacing and an obsession with doing reveals instead of storytelling. Before that: Dappion unmasked! Why was Spawn so popular? Would we ever go back and cover the 2019 Watchmen HBO show? And what are the secret projects James Gunn says are in the works for the DCU? If you don't care about all that skip to 51:16.Next week: the season, and probably series, finale. Thanks for listening!

Send us a textThe final part of our podcast season of, 'Dodgy 90s Superhero Movies' is here, and this week, we take a look back at the most dodgy and the most 90s of the bunch, 1997's, Spawn. A movie that many (including us) have (had?) very fond memories of. Does it hold up though? Just how bad does the CG look in 2025? More importantly, can a movie have both pretty good visual effects and, well, perhaps the worst example of VFX in mainstream movie history? Oh, the answer is yes by the way. Still, with a genuinely compelling performance from John Leguizamo and a villainess turn from Martin Sheen, it has to be worth a watch, right?.....Right?Listen in via the link in the bio.

Have you ever participated in one of those popular, “31 Days of Horror Movies to Halloween” challenges? Sure you have! It's almost a rite of passage for Horror fans — especially those who are online content creators. Well, here in Episode 162 of Jay of the Dead's New Horror Movies, Horror Avenger Ron Martin produces, what is essentially, a four-part series of his infamous Horror Myth-busting segment! During these episodes, Ron endeavors to explore this question: Does watching any random Horror movies during the Halloween season enhance and enrich Ron Martin's Halloween experience? To answer this question for himself, Ron has recorded four solocast episodes where he brings us a total of 31 mini Horror movie reviews (many of which are “new Horror movies”) where he discusses and rates all the random Horror movies he's watched. Therefore, while Ron is getting an answer to his question, we get the benefit of 31 Horror movie reviews by The Cassandra of Horror Podcasting, Ron Martin! Join us! Time for the penultimate episode review of ALIEN: EARTH – Episode 007: Emergence! So, here in Episode 161 of Jay of the Dead's New Horror Movies, Jay of the Dead is joined by Mister Watson, Dr. Walking Dead, GregaMortis, Mackula and special guest Kombat Karl “The Mad Irishman” from Movie Podcast Weekly. To make sure y'all get what you paid for, this review begins with some (not exhaustive, but some) scene-level breakdowns of Episode 7, but the discussion quickly splinters into multiple heated theories. For instance, Kirsch's ambiguous behavior takes center stage, as Jay of the Dead voices his disappointment with Kirsh's disloyal turn from Kavalier to a rogue Agent of Science At All Costs. Kombat Karl applauds the fresh portrayal of the Xenomorph as an intelligent, potentially controllable creature. But inevitably, this raises the debate question: Does taming the terror take the teeth out of the franchise? Well, does it? Not rhetorical. Then your spiffy spacemen dig into the ethics and narrative direction of the show, especially pertaining to the synthetic children and their unpredictable development. The guys revisit the theory that the real threat may not be the Xenomorphs at all, but the children themselves, revealing the kids as the true “monsters” of the series: cold, calculating, and emotionally unmoored. GregaMortis and Mister Watson weigh in on Marcy's increasingly violent use of her Wendy powers, wondering aloud whether she's being framed as a tragic anti-hero or something far more nefarious. So join us for our spoiler-filled descent into Alien Earth Episode 7 — a place where Xenomorphs evolve, children outthink their creators, and nothing stays safe for long, especially Watson and Karl's alcoholic beverages. Note: This episode was recorded on September 16, 2025 — the day Robert Redford died. This week on the Toy Power Podcast; we once again a team of Three! (This is becoming a pattern!) Trent is regrettably absent; but the show must go on! In the theme of Three; we have a Show & Tell Segment that we have each brought in a unique character; and we each compare said character with their Vintage Version; Vs a more modern interpretation.... Plus along with an almost latest-release version of them. A Three-Way Comparison! This was a fun segment to chat to; with some interesting points from the different eras. Then we do a bit of a time stamp on the ep; with our local Adelaide Comic & Toy Fair show only a week away; we discuss what we are potentially hunting for & such. (This will be fun to see if we actually find anything on our Wish-Lists or not!) Then the final segment is rounding out the Patreon Questions!
