In part two of our Arizona Bear Hunt recap, Matthew and Cody break down the final few days of their adventure. Over the course of five days, they treed ten bears and had an incredible experience exploring the rugged landscapes of southern Arizona. Do we hunt bears as part of a well-managed predator control plan? Absolutely — responsible predator management is essential for maintaining a balanced and healthy ecosystem. Do we hunt bears for food? Yes, that too. Bear meat is delicious and versatile — from roasts and ground meat to backstraps and even bear grease — nothing goes to waste. Just as important, pursuing bears is an exciting and rewarding challenge for any outdoorsman. If you're interested in learning more, do your research, connect with local wildlife managers, and reach out to groups like the American Bear Foundation or Howl for Wildlife. A Spooky Howl-o-ween Tail: Marie Tierney and Deadly Animals I had the pleasure of chatting with the delightful award-winning author Marie Tierney about her book, Deadly Animals—a great read for this time of the year. Deadly Animals was the International Thriller Writers debut book of the year and won the McDermid debut award for crime fiction. Marie and I had a fun conversation about the inspiration behind her main character, Ava, who while out late at night discovers the body of a classmate. After an anonymous call to the police, Ava manages to stay involved in the investigation through the wonderful Detective Delahaye. Deadly Animals is a gripping thriller, coming of age and spooky read all wrapped up into one. Halloween was just around the corner, and neighbourhoods allover the US were readying their homes for the festive celebrations. Families were carving pumpkins, making costumes, baking delicious treats and decorating their homes inside and out. But there was one house in particular, whichreceived much attention for its Halloween display. In fact, the display caused an outcry.Disclaimer - Tyler Allen at the Minds of Madness Podcast - https://mindsofmadnesspodcast.com/Send voice mail - https://anchor.fm/applefortheteacherpod/messageEmail - applefortheteacherpodcast@gmail.comTwitter - https://twitter.com/AppleforTeacherInstagram - https://www.instagram.com/apple_for_the_teacher_podcast/Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/applefortheteacherpodcastSources - https://www.mlive.com/news/grand-rapids/2021/09/juvenile-lifer-who-killed-mom-sisters-says-he-wont-commit-any-crimes-if-released.html https://www.mlive.com/news/grand-rapids/2021/10/chilling-halloween-display-disappears-from-home-where-teen-killed-his-mom-sisters.html https://www.mlive.com/news/grand-rapids/2021/10/house-where-teen-violently-murdered-his-mom-and-sisters-features-chilling-halloween-display.htmlhttps://www.woodtv.com/news/grand-rapids/murderer-jon-sieslings-sentence-reduced-to-years-after-court-ruling/https://www.wzzm13.com/article/news/local/walker-family-killings-jon-siesling/69-e5feee3f-91c3-4177-b81e-be3ed9884793 https://allthatsinteresting.com/jon-siesling-house?fbclid=IwY2xjawM4YP9leHRuA2FlbQIxMABicmlkETE4blZSRXRaclUxYkZsRU8yAR5wFb9nJVvh_nnLKSqxGpWQmq67wLFlH-mJ2_3IjGT88DYvM1EcE1h2X02-Cg_aem_7f72jfq-X5C1wXgjX33hIwhttps://statecourtreport.org/our-work/analysis-opinion/michigans-high-court-charting-course-against-punitive-excess

Send us a textWhat if convenience food didn't feel like a compromise? We sit down with Howl at the Spoon founder Melanie Jenkinson, a former creative director who traded pitch decks for real ingredients, to unpack how healthy convenient options can change the way we eat. From backcountry meals to office lunches, Melanie shows why right-sized portions beat the clutter and waste of old-school bottles—and why a sauce that expires in weeks is a good thing. The conversation traces a winding path: Oregon hikes, a creative career stacked with pitches, the reality of gender gaps in leadership and funding, and a COVID-era pause that became an unexpected R&D gift. Melanie shares what 500+ markets and 150,000 samples taught her about flavor, packaging, and the language customers actually hear. We dig into the brand's clean-label stance, why “sauce graveyards” are a solvable problem, and how fruit dust turned into a café-friendly, kid-approved upgrade for yogurt, oats, lattes, and ice cream. We also talk systems and scale: moving beyond tents, building B2B partnerships with coffee shops and butchers, leaning into user-generated content, and using structured mentorship from Bend Outdoor Worx to set goals that stick. Through it all, Melanie's mission stays clear—reduce food waste, make real food easy, and design modern formats that fit real life. If you've ever wondered why that bottle in your fridge still looks the same after two years, this episode will change how you stock your kitchen.Enjoy the episode? That's when his junior detective friends, Redge, Jonathan and Wabbitson step in to crack the case. For our second County Episode of Series 7, we're off to North Wales to talk about the history and folklore of Denbighshire! In terms of the county's history, there's a lot - and it's absolutely fascinating. From the centuries when it was a domain controlled by the Marcher Lords to the recent severing of Wrexham away from Denbighshire to rebel princes including Owain Glendwyr, it's a meaty one, and a landscape filled with rugged coasts, sweeping valleys, forested uplands, and a bonkers array of castles and scheduled monuments. After that, aided by some excerpts from our full Local Legends interview with Chris Baglin, we dig into the county's folklore, from ghostly centurions to horse-stealing sprites, King Arthur in drag to a pretty strange variation on The Sleeping King story, there's tonnes to chat about, and we aren't in a rush to move on!This leads into the main event: Martin's story "A Howl of Wind in the Castle of Crows" - a take on the legendary yet ill-fated love of Hywel ab Einion and Myfanwy Fychan, including a pretty grisly conclusion...After that, we had some microphone issues, but nonetheless discuss the story's symbolism, share some news of ancient Chilean mummies and Viking vulva statues, while also talking about Haunting Season 2025, which will begin on Thursday! We really hope you enjoy the episode and will speak to you again on Wednesday for our 'October Update' all before our Three Ravens Guide to Halloween comes out on Thursday, followed by the full interview with Chris on Saturday! The Three Ravens is a Myth and Folklore podcast hosted by award-winning writers Martin Vaux and Eleanor Conlon.Released on Mondays, each weekly episode focuses on a historic county, exploring the heritage, folklore and traditions of the area, from ghosts and mermaids to mythical monsters, half-forgotten heroes, bloody legends, and much, much more. Then, and most importantly, the pair take turns to tell a new version of an ancient story from that county - all before discussing what that tale might mean, where it might have come from, and the truths it reveals about England's hidden past...Bonus Episodes are released on Thursdays plus Local Legends episodes on Saturdays - interviews with acclaimed authors, folklorists, podcasters and historians with unique perspectives on that week's county. With a range of exclusive content on Patreon too, including audio ghost tours, the Three Ravens Newsletter, and monthly Three Ravens Film Club episodes about folk horror films from across the decades, why not join us around the campfire and listen in?Learn more at www.threeravenspodcast.com, join our Patreon at www.patreon.com/threeravenspodcast, and find links to our social media channels here: https://linktr.ee/threeravenspodcastProud members of the Dark Cast Network.CLICK HERE TO COMPLETE THE THREE RAVENS ACAST SURVEY - PLEASE DO! This week, as Trump works to dismantle government-funded scientific research, Michael Oreskes reveals how top researchers are now putting their work—and sometimes their retirements—on hold in order to fight for truth in science. Then, these are indeed strange days, and you may be struggling to find words of comfort. Gerard deGroot has a thought: read Allen Ginsberg's masterpiece, “Howl.” Published 70 years ago, this shocking poem was a powerful rebuke to conformists in 1950s America. And finally, Joan Juliet Buck has a look at a new book about how a British woman named Jane became the French bag named Birkin.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
“Howl, fir tree, for the cedar is fallen.” — Zechariah 11:2 When in the forest there is heard the crash of a falling oak, it is a sign that the woodman is abroad, and every tree in the whole company may tremble lest to-morrow the sharp edge of the axe should find it out. We […]
