In the first episode of Metal Maven Podcast, the lovely and talented Marcela Bovio, joins me to discuss how collaboration played a powerful role in creating her new solo album, Through Your Eyes.

SharQ Talk #24 is live opgenomen in de Tattoo & Piercing studio van Cheyo Winter te Mortsel (België). Ditmaal zal ik met twee van de vier heren van de Belgische metalband Off the Cross, Jens de Vos en Steven van Crombruggen. Steven is de vocalist en Jens de gitarist van de band. Off the Cross bestaat pas enkele jaren maar hebben in deze periode al behoorlijk wat vinkjes kunnen zetten op hun wensenlijstje. De twee beschrijven in geuren en kleuren wat het inhoud om in een band te zitten, van schrijfproces tot het tourleven. Op 2 november verschijnt er de opvolger van Divided Kingdom uit 2016, een EP die de titel draagt ERA. De EP staat vol details, samenwerkingen (o.a Marcela Bovio en Tijs Vanneste) en brengt de jonge band tot ongekende hoogte. De pre-orders zijn al van start gegaan voor het witte vinyl dus grijp nu nog je kans deze gelimiteerde oplage te pakken te krijgen. Daarnaast duik ik met Jens ook nog even dieper in zijn bedrijf Panda Productions, het video productie bedrijf waarmee hij al enkele jaren hoge ogen gooit in de metalscene en daarbuiten. Een hele reeks toffe aftermovies en live registraties heeft hij inmiddels op zijn naam mogen bijschrijven. Off the Cross zal op vrijdag 16 november hun EP live ten gehore brengen in de Trix te Antwerpen, kaarten voor de show zijn te hier te koop. "It creates a very varied sound," agreed Marcela Bovio, one of a handful of vocalists that makes up Mayan's sound. "We have five vocalists in total but we all have very different sounds so the palate is very, very wide. I think it also makes the live experience more interesting because we are jumping on and off stage like a little tag team (laughs). One will be busy and giving it their all and then they get off and the next one comes along so it also creates a very dynamic and explosive performance. The whole experience is just so much fun!"In the full interview Marcela discusses Mayan's upcoming album 'Dhyana', the concept behind it, the addition of The City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra on the album and the different things the band has to adjust to when writing and performing with an orchestra, more on the dynamics of having so many vocalists, her role in the band when she joined in 2014 and how that has grown since then, how the band has changed musically over the years and more.
