All of this is being greenwash under the banner of a so-called nuclear renaissance by big tech corporations and some supporters, who claim that it is an answer to climate change. Dankzij een akkoord met Pro kan minister Sjoerdsma (D66) van Ontwikkelingssamenwerking met een meerderheid zijn begroting door de Eerste Kamer loodsen. Wat Pro niet wist was dat de VVD ook een deal met D66 sloot. We leven in een tijd waarin niet alleen oorlog, maar ook klimaatverandering, asielzoekers en mannen als bedreigend worden ervaren. Jongeren zouden zich zelfs aanzienlijk angstiger voelen dan tien jaar geleden. Psycholoog Merel Kindt vraagt ze daarbij zich af: „Is het een engere tijd of zijn mensen minder veerkrachtig?” In zekere zin praten we elkaar volgens Kindt ook angst aan, doordat we de hele tijd worden blootgesteld aan slecht nieuws: „Want goed nieuws is geen nieuws."Wel heeft één op de vijf jongvolwassenen daadwerkelijk irrationele angsten. Het Europese migratiepact is vanaf morgen van kracht. Daar wordt al maanden op voorbeschouwd, maar het zal nu voor het eerst duidelijk worden hoe dat uitpakt. "Je hebt het migratiepact en wij doen het nog strenger in Nederland, wat de erfenis is van minister Faber", valt presentator Nadia Moussaid op. This episode features a conversation with Prachi and Ram, organizers with Savera, a multiracial, interfaith, anti-caste coalition of Indian Americans and partners standing together in the fight against the rise of the transnational far right. After laying out Hindu supremacy as an ideology, we considered the different phases of consolidation of the Hindu right in the United States from its late 20th century orientation around homeland politics to its 21st century effort to forge a Hindu American identity, first through an alignment with U.S. civil rights organizations and then through a realignment with white supremacist forces. We delved more deeply into the role of caste within this formation, in particular the longstanding efforts of the Hindu right in both India and the U.S. to forge Hindu unity by opposing anticaste politics. This took us to a discussion of the Hindu right's embrace of the pro-Israel lobby's tactics, especially its weaponization of Hinduphobia as an echo of the weaponization of antisemitism, to battle criticisms of the Modi government in India, and the need to distinguish this from the real rise in both anti-Hindu and antisemitic sentiment. We ended with Savera's efforts to forge a broad-based antiracist, left majority as a counterweight to the multiracial far right. Article 370: article of the Indian Constitution that granted a special autonomous status to the state of Jammu and Kashmir. This status was abrogated by the Modi government in 2019. CAA/NRC: the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the National Register of Citizens (NRC) are policies introduced by the Modi government. The 2019 CAA fast-tracks the naturalization of populations identified as victims of persecution by Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Pakistan and explicitly excludes the eligibility of Muslims. The 2019 NRC aims to create an official record of legal citizens of India. Critics and human rights organizations argue that the policies together discriminate against Muslims. If a nationwide NRC is implemented, individuals who lack the required documentation to prove their citizenship could be excluded from the final registry. Because the CAA allows non-Muslims to claim citizenship if they fall through the cracks, Muslims left off the NRC list would face disproportionate risks of statelessness, detention, or deportation. This episode features a conversation with Prachi and Ram, organizers with Savera, a multiracial, interfaith, anti-caste coalition of Indian Americans and partners standing together in the fight against the rise of the transnational far right. After laying out Hindu supremacy as an ideology, we considered the different phases of consolidation of the Hindu right in the United States from its late 20th century orientation around homeland politics to its 21st century effort to forge a Hindu American identity, first through an alignment with U.S. civil rights organizations and then through a realignment with white supremacist forces. We delved more deeply into the role of caste within this formation, in particular the longstanding efforts of the Hindu right in both India and the U.S. to forge Hindu unity by opposing anticaste politics. This took us to a discussion of the Hindu right's embrace of the pro-Israel lobby's tactics, especially its weaponization of Hinduphobia as an echo of the weaponization of antisemitism, to battle criticisms of the Modi government in India, and the need to distinguish this from the real rise in both anti-Hindu and antisemitic sentiment. We ended with Savera's efforts to forge a broad-based antiracist, left majority as a counterweight to the multiracial far right. Article 370: article of the Indian Constitution that granted a special autonomous status to the state of Jammu and Kashmir. This status was abrogated by the Modi government in 2019. CAA/NRC: the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the National Register of Citizens (NRC) are policies introduced by the Modi government. The 2019 CAA fast-tracks the naturalization of populations identified as victims of persecution by Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Pakistan and explicitly excludes the eligibility of Muslims. The 2019 NRC aims to create an official record of legal citizens of India. Critics and human rights organizations argue that the policies together discriminate against Muslims. If a nationwide NRC is implemented, individuals who lack the required documentation to prove their citizenship could be excluded from the final registry. Because the CAA allows non-Muslims to claim citizenship if they fall through the cracks, Muslims left off the NRC list would face disproportionate risks of statelessness, detention, or deportation. Además, son consideradas "crisis olvidadas", denuncia el Consejo Noruego para los Refugiados (NRC) en su informe anual. Entrevistamos a Stine Paus, directora regional para América Latina de esta ONG. La lista de crisis de desplazamiento a nivel mundial está encabezada por dos países africanos: Sudán y la República Democrática del Congo. A continuación se ubican Colombia, Honduras y Ecuador. ¿Cuál es la situación específica en América Latina? "Estamos hablando de más de 10 millones de personas desplazadas en las Américas, una cifra elevada a nivel global que incluye refugiados y desplazados internos", dice Stine Paus, directora regional para América Latina del NRC a RFI. "Colombia presenta las cifras más altas de la región. En 2025, alrededor de 1.6 millones de personas se vieron afectadas por el conflicto en ese país. Con los datos que tenemos, se puede afirmar que al menos 300,000 personas han sido desplazadas en Ecuador en los últimos años. En Honduras, más de 400,000 personas han sido desplazadas en algún momento de sus vidas debido a la violencia. Estas cifras son, sin duda, muy alarmantes", agrega.  Según el Consejo Noruego para los Refugiados, el crimen organizado y los grupos armados explican gran parte de este fenómeno. Las poblaciones son víctimas de amenazas, reclutamiento forzado y violencia. Sin embargo, estas crisis de desplazamiento en Colombia, Honduras y Ecuador figuran entre "las más olvidadas" del mundo, denuncia el NRC. "Son crisis olvidadas en el sentido de que reciben muy poca atención mediática, así como escasa atención internacional, política y financiera. Se requiere apoyo internacional para atender las necesidades humanitarias resultantes del desplazamiento, y esta financiación es actualmente muy baja. El promedio de financiamiento para estos tres países es solo del 15% de lo que se necesita", subraya. A nivel global, la financiación para enfrentar crisis humanitarias está disminuyendo. Sin embargo, esta ONG advierte que la distribución de recursos no está necesariamente basada en las necesidades, sino en intereses políticos. Por ello, buscan visibilizar las crisis que requieren atención urgente, pero que no reciben suficiente cobertura. Stine Paus menciona el caso de Ecuador. "Los países europeos han dirigido una parte significativa del apoyo hacia las crisis más cercanas geográficamente. Esto, combinado con la reducción de fondos de los Estados Unidos, tiene como efecto que las crisis en América Latina sean menos atendidas. En la región, Ecuador es un caso importante. Este país no ha sido priorizado últimamente por los fondos humanitarios de Estados Unidos, a pesar de que las necesidades humanitarias están aumentando", concluye.

Voor aflevering 57 ging ik op bezoek bij schrijver en journalist Saul van Stapele. Zijn nieuwste boek 'Woorden als Wapens - Mythe, Macht en Gangsta Rap' ligt sinds vorige week in de boekwinkels!Het boek gaat over de opkomst en impact van gangsta rap gebaseerd op dertig jaar ontmoetingen met kopstukken uit het genre die hij interviewde voor uiteenlopende media als NRC, OOR en Nieuwe Revu. Saul vertelt over het hiphop-zaadje dat al vroeg werd geplant en de manier waarop hij als student journalistiek al snel 'die guy' was, die jonge journalist die over hiphopcultuur schreef. Aan het clichébeeld van de boze, negatieve rapper is hij zich in de loop der jaren meer en meer gaan storen. Rappers en gangsta rappers in het bijzonder, moeten zich nog steeds vaak, in tegenstelling tot andere creatieve makers, verantwoorden voor hun onderwerp- en taalkeuzes. Door hiphop en rap te benaderen vanuit een kader dat alleen het boze en negatieve benadrukt, wordt een waanzinnig rijke en brede culturele stroming onterecht platgeslagen. 52 jaar na de geboorte van het genre vindt de gevestigde orde het nog steeds lastig om op dezelfde wijze te schrijven over hiphop als over andere kunstuitingen. In het boek deelt hij zijn verbazing en irritatie hierover en ook in dit gesprek deelt hij voorbeelden van het meten met twee maten door critici. Die benadering heeft zijn weerslag op hoe het publiek (gangsta) rap en hiphop ziet maar ook op hoe zelfs de meest succesvolle rappers over hun eigen werk praten, bijna verontschuldigend soms, legt Saul uit. Dertig jaar focus op hiphop en het de maat nemen van hoe de status quo deze cultuurstroming behandelt. Saul vertelt over hoe het allemaal voor hem begon, op Haagse pleintjes, op straathoeken en op zijn jongenskamer waar hij hiphop-tapejes grijsdraaide. Over de invloed van Fab Five Freddy, de zoektocht naar informatie in de eerste jaren en trips naar New York in de tijd dat daar bij media en platenmaatschappijen nog budget voor was. Volgens Saul hebben artiesten heel lang de rol op zich genomen om zaken aan de kaak te stellen, over bijvoorbeeld de ware geschiedenis achter de War on Drugs in de VS, die mainstreammedia lieten liggen. Die media hebben altijd geloofd in het officiële verhaal van de overheid en zien nu pas, met Trump, dat dit helemaal niet vanzelfsprekend is. Hoe ging dat eigenlijk bij dat eerste bezoek van Snoop Dogg in Nederland? Wat was het doel van Saul's eerste boek 'Van Brooklyn naar Breukelen'? En hoe verleid je een rapper als Eminem tot een gesprek dat de schijtlolligheid overstijgt en gaat over verschillende raptechnieken? Ook daarover vertelt Saul uitgebreid. 'Hiphop is veel meer dan een jongetje van 16 met een omgekeerd petje op die "yo, yo, yo" roept'. Dat is een van de belangrijkste boodschappen uit het boek.
