“You're not supposed to swallow it…but it's fine to have it in your mouth.” Whether it's the debut from Metal Church or Dream Theater, or the swansong from Slayer or Pantera, TERRY DATE is undoubtedly one of the most prominent and prolific producers, engineers, and mixers of metal music to have blessed the ears of metal fans for more than 40 years. Get ready for “a little origami”, remember that cross walks exist “for health reasons”, and discover why it's better to not be “on the boat” during a thunderstorm if astraphobia is an issue. Check out our accidental album dive that was riddled with “Dysfunction” and discover just how many outstanding albums got left out of our discussion thanks to the “different tastes” of some of us. Behold the hilarity of “Dealer's Choice”, realize that “Episode 300 will be ‘The One' (it's gonna be a mindblower)” and JOIN US as we go BEHIND THE BOARD with our METAL PRODUCERS SPOTLIGHT on TERRY DATE.

Men regimen sätter in militär mot demonstranterna.
We begin 2025 by going back 23 years to discuss our favourite songs of 2002, including emo classics, motivational hardcore, sparkly piano pop, terrifyingly positive psychedelic religious cults, and THE GREATEST GUITAR RIFF OF ALL TIME.We've each chosen our 10 favourite songs of the year and sent them over to Colin's wife Helen, who put the playlists together and distributed them so we were each given a playlist of the 20 songs from the other two hosts, along with our own 10. We then ranked the playlists in order of preference and sent them back to Helen, who totalled up the points and worked out the order. She also joined us on the episode to read out the countdown, which we found out as we recorded so all reactions are genuine. Now, admittedly, in parts we're a little bit brutal to some of the songs in the list as we're three separate people with differing music tastes, but please remember that to be in this episode at all the songs have to have been in one of our top 10's of that year.Bands featured in this episode include (In alphabetical order, no spoilers here!) - Christina Aguilera ft Redman, Aqualung, Bright Eyes, Vanessa Carlton, Cousteau, The Delgados, The DIllinger Escape Plan Ft Mike Patton, Down, Frou Frou, Hatebreed, Idlewild, Isis, Jay-Z Ft Big Boi, Killer Mike, & Twista, July Skies, Ben Kweller, Avril Lavigne, Malcolm Middleton, Miss Black America, Nada Surf, Nine Inch Nails, Opeth, The Polyphonic Spree, Porcupine Tree, Sonic Youth, theSTART, Sigur Ros, Taking Back Sunday, Tech N9ne, Wilco, and James Yorkston & The AthletesFind all songs in alphabetical order here - https://open.spotify.com/playlist/13AsY6By1DI8knbl7TpMFx?si=cd88b8d2738249feFind our We Dig Music Pollwinners Party playlist (featuring all of the winning songs up until now) here - https://open.spotify.com/playlist/45zfDHo8zm6VqrvoEQSt3z?si=Ivt0oMj6SmitimvumYfFrQIf you want to listen to megalength playlists of all the songs we've individually picked since we started doing best of the year episodes (which need updating but I plan on doing them over the next month or so), you can listen to Colin's here – https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5x3Vy5Jry2IxG9JNOtabRT?si=HhcVKRCtRhWCK1KucyrDdgIan's here - https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2H0hnxe6WX50QNQdlfRH5T?si=XmEjnRqISNqDwi30p1uLqAand Tracey's here - https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2p3K0n8dKhjHb2nKBSYnKi?si=7a-cyDvSSuugdV1m5md9NwThe playlist of 20 songs from the other two hosts was scored as usual, our favourite song got 20 points, counting down incrementally to our least favourite which got 1 point. The scoring of our own list of 10 is now slightly more complicated in order to give a truer level of points to our own favourites. So rather than them only being able to score as many points as our 10th favourite in the other list, the points in our own list were distributed as follows -1st place - 20 points2nd place - 18 points3rd place – 16 points4th place – 14 points5th place – 12 points6th place – 9 points7th place – 7 points8th place – 5 points9th place – 3 points10th place -1 pointHosts - Ian Clarke, Colin Jackson-Brown & Tracey BGuest starring Helen Jackson-Brown.Playlist compiling/distributing – Helen Jackson-BrownRecorded/Edited/Mixed/Original Music by Colin Jackson-Brown for We Dig PodcastsThanks to Peter Latimer for help with the scoring system.Part of the We Dig Podcasts network along with Free With This Months Issue & Pick A Disc.Bluesky - https://bsky.app/profile/wedigmusic.bsky.socialInstagram - https://www.instagram.com/wedigmusicpcast/Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/wedigpusicpcast/Find our other episodes & podcasts at www.wedigpodcasts.com
The trifecta of yahoos finally got around to talking about the latest album from Swedish prog giants Opeth. To get right to the point, The Last Will And Testament is a monster album worthy of everyone's time. If you already know Opeth, then you know. If you don't know the band and you're into killer musicianship, top shelf songwriting and concept albums, then you should definitely take The Last Will And Testament out for a test drive. With some amazing guests (Ian Anderson, Joey Tempest and Dave Stewart) super dynamic and theatric progressive music, there is something for everyone on this record. (And the Opeth crew brought back some of their signature heavy for this album too, so the guys are loving that too…)Be sure to swing by www.shittalkreviews.com for all the reviews, interviews and knitting tutorials!#opeth #metal #deathmetal #progressivemetal #metalhead #mikaelakerfeldt #progmetal #heavymetal #music #rock #blackwaterpark #progressiverock #blackmetal #progrock #vinyl #gojira #prog #vinylcollection #metalmusic #guitar #dreamtheater #progressivedeathmetal #metallica #doommetal #opethfans #opethband #katatonia #vinylcommunity #stevenwilson #melodicdeathmetal #shittalkreviews #albumreview #podcast

It's time to say goodbye to 2024 with our Bunkerpoon International holiday celebration, where we will be waxing nostalgic on this year's episodes and simultaneously ripping holes in the “space time continuum” whilst checking out some highlights and indulging in our own “Pepperidge Farm moments” of metal infused lunacy. Remember to “expect the worst & hope for the best” whenever consuming a “vegetable shake” and understand that being called a “handsome woman” is flattering, “doppelgangers” are eerily unsettling, and our “Spotify Wrapped” referenced one episode that was “508% more” impressive than average. Get ready to break out the “chunkless gravy”, embrace the “Dick Flex” theme of the episode, wish everyone a Merry Christmas (and Happy Boxing Day) and JOIN US for our 2024 YEAR END WRAP-UP, including a few goodies and surprises from INSIDE SANTA'S SACK. What are the 3 most haunting metal albums of all time? An obvious question for All Hallow's Eve...But Ben, Markisan, and Jeff present very different choices that are not at all obvious. What transpires is a fun and deep discussion of the visceral emotional connections that feed our metal hearts (reference to Accept intended!). We begin by talking about recent shows we've seen. Ben gushes about seeing Opeth live for the the first time! Markisan is knocked out by Amorphis! Jeff is blown away by Boris on their Amplifier Worship Anniversary Tour! And then we present our top 3 choices and honorable mentions. It's so much fun to share our deep passion for this incredible and emotional music! Metal is life, life is metal. So sit back and crack open a New Trail Double Zombie Double Pumpkin Ale!

Send us a textMartin Mendez, an influential bassist in the world of progressive metal, is best known for his work with the Swedish band Opeth and his solo project, White Stones. Born on April 6, 1978, in Montevideo, Uruguay, Mendez has carved out a distinct niche for himself in the metal scene through his innovative playing style and deep understanding of musical dynamics.Mendez joined Opeth in 1997, just before the recording of their third album, "My Arms, Your Hearse." His addition to the band marked a significant turning point, contributing to the evolution of Opeth's sound. Known for his technical proficiency and melodic sensibility, Mendez's bass lines often serve as the backbone of Opeth's complex compositions. His ability to blend seamlessly with the intricate guitar work of Mikael Åkerfeldt and the rest of the band has been crucial in defining the band's unique sound, which blends elements of death metal, progressive rock, and folk music.Throughout his tenure with Opeth, Mendez has been part of many critically acclaimed albums, including "Blackwater Park" (2001), "Ghost Reveries" (2005), and "Watershed" (2008). His contributions have not only been limited to his performance but also his creative input, helping to shape the band's musical direction. http://www.betterhelp.com/TheBarnThis episode is sponsored by www.betterhelp.com/TheBarn and brought to you as always by The Barn Media Group. Dave Bautista released a pro-Kamala endorsement video this week and Undertaker & Kane released a pro Trump endorsement. We analyze both and wonder which wrestler would endorse a third-party candidate. We discuss the Jewish holiday of Sukkot. Rob talks about going to see Opeth. We go a little long because we found a great review from our longtime friend Mark. Watch the episode on Youtube for free. "I haven't listened to Sepultura since Roots." "I never bothered to check out any Tiamat after A Deeper Kind of Slumber." "What does Opeth sound like these days anyway?" These are comments we've been saying to ourselves and each other for a while, and we decided to remedy it. We check out newer material from bands we used to love that we just never kept up with. We listen to some clips and discuss. Of course there are some great listener emails this time around and we dive headlong into a FMK as well. -------------------- Hosts: Jason Walton and Nick Wusz.
