We're all different — from our skin color, to the way we experience the world, to the way we think, to the country we're born in, to our sexual orientation, to our abilities or the lack of abilities, and the list goes on. Instead of turning away from these differences or trying to fit in, how about we celebrate and talk about them. I've decided it was time to talk about why My Big Story matters, especially in season 2 — why it matters to me (this is Christopher Swan talking!) and really, why that matters to you. This isn't some recap or flashback episode. Like all of the episodes in season 2, this is an adventure. I asked my sister, Katie Swan to join me on a day-long, local adventure, as we talk about my story, the show, and unpack this season. I heard from a lot of you, that you wanted to hear more about me and my story. So we're doing that, and you get to hear a twist on me, my sister's perspective of it all. Also, my sister is awesome. She's a leading advocate in the mental health industry in Sonoma County, CA, and she has a great story. During our conversations, you'll get a peek into it. Join Katie and I as we head out for some sibling bonding time, a surprise mini-photoshoot, a lot of conversations, and how season 2 is helping create a world where we all belong. Today on the Podcast, The Messy Middle We've all been there. At that intersection of Not Yet and No Longer — where everything feels a bit off, a bit clunky, and you're fighting to make things "fit." When you know your strengths, you've got a bazillion BIG ideas, no shortage of passion or causes — but you just don't know how to make it all come together — what then? Know You're in the Creative Cocoon ... For some? It can be one of the most stressful, disorienting, and lonely places to be. Not knowing who they are, what they want, why they started, where they're going or how they'll get there — they just want the experience OVER. For others? These chrysalis moments (as we talk about in coaching) can actually feel nurturing, honoring, restorative and life-giving. But, for most? It's both. The KEY is to Remember ... What's on the other side: TRANSFORMATION. • Experiences that feel more liberating, more surprising, and more exciting than anything you've done in a lonnnnng, long time. • Finding enough grace with yourself (and patience with the unknown) to embrace "what is" AND explore "what could be." • Trusting everything memorable is just outside your comfort zone. So don't shrink; stretch. Enter my Conversation with fellow Podcaster, Christopher Swan ... Based out of Sonoma, Christopher's on an adventure and discovery all his own. Since creating the My Big Story podcast, in 2016, he's been interviewing a diverse mix of people, uncovering unique stories, and now literally hopping planes, trains, and automobiles to share voices that aren’t being heard. But what I appreciate most about Christopher’s show? Our shared value for inclusivity and an all-embracing interest in people from various walks of life. His transparency and behind-the-scenes reveals make this a must listen for anyone struggling to figure out their next bold move. In this Episode We Talk About: • How to navigate not knowing what's next • Why it's easy to start a podcast but hard to be good • Where listening, staying in the moment, and surprise meet • The #1 thing your audience picks up on • When it's not a Fear of Failure it might be this fear • The problem with striving for happiness • One thing all his podcast guests have in common • When he knew he had to take a step back • What he's done to make his bigger vision his new reality • How to redefine "Me Time" and "Balance" • The link between faith, self-trust, pride and momentum Get Ready to Hear All The Behind-The-Scenes Stories & Insights. DECEMBER UPDATE: The podcast is moving to seasons, and season 2 arrives in January 2018. It'll have an even better production quality and I'm expanding in how I share these stories. And it's going to be awesome! ------------------ I’m excited to share a quick update about My Big Story with Christopher Swan. I’ve been working on changes for the show for a while. If you been following along with me, you know I did a mini-refresh in April. That included a name change, shifting my focus a little. And those were the prefect changes then. Because they helped me see how I was getting closer to the big idea, of what I had always envisioned for the show. Also, there’s been things I wanted to do, to include in the show, to help tell the stories better and to bring things to life in a new way. I think that’s just a natural evolution. I’ve been on this podcast journey for a while and learned a lot, and have seen and heard things I’ve loved, and wanted to incorporate into my show. So here’s what’s going on. I’ve added some awesome editorial and production support to create the amazing show I see in my mind, as a show I can share with all of you. Before you have that oh crap moment, and think, “wait, I already like this show, and now you’re changing it. Nice.” Don’t worry, the essence of the show is still the same. I’ll just be sharing the stories in a fresh way, that’s a lot more me. To make these kind of changes, there’s a lot of work to do behind-the-scenes. So I’m taking a break for a few weeks and will be back in mid-August. I know. Sad. But it’s only a few weeks, and I’ll be back before you know it. Until then, make sure you’re subscribed to get the new episodes as they’re released. Join Me on My Adventure! ChristopherSwan.info AwesomeFinds.info (My awesome newsletter with free stuff!) Welcome to year two of the show. After a fun year of exploring and growing, I’ve learned so much from my guests and by producing the show. I’ve also continued to explore the areas where I show up, and the things I want to share with the world. All of this has helped me to focus my ideas more, which includes this show. I’m excited to share that starting with year two, I’ve changed the name of the show. Living Your Journey with Christopher Swan is now My Big Story with Christopher Swan. I realized that ‘story’ was the key ingredient in so many things that I do and share. Also, guests are really sharing their big stories when they are on the show. As much as I enjoyed the journey, story gives us a little room to stretch for special conversations, and in the end, connects better to what I’m already sharing. The show isn’t really changing. It still has the same focus with guests that are living a life they love that we can learn from. What you will see that is different, is our name, our look, and our music. So yeah, the packaging is different, but the meaningful content is the same, with maybe some extras in the future. About this Episode Sean Sarantos is a well-known fitness instructor and model that recently launched the new business, Dapper Dogs, to help him reach the goal of opening a dog rescue sanctuary. Dapper Dogs is becoming the new hub for dog lovers, currently offering originally designed apparel and merchandise, and will even grow with additional information, resources, and even entertainment. Sean and I talk about his passion for helping dogs, how his business supports his sanctuary dream, the realities of starting a new business, and his fitness work and past experiences. We also talk about the night he was stabbed by an unprovoked stranger and how it shaped his future. Sean is happy to share anything he can to help anyone listening. Language Alert: There's a lot of colorful adult language in this episode; which isn’t typical for my show. So if you have children around, it’s time to put your headphones on. The show is a year old! This episode marks one year for My Big Story (formerly known as Living Your Journey). That is one year of guests, one year of unique, big stories, one year of a ton of advice, one year of celebrating people; our differences and the power of ideas. I’m thankful to all of you because without you, I’d be talking to myself. I’m excited for year two, and starting next week, I’ll be sharing a few changes to the show, that will better connect the show to everything else I'm doing — to tell a better story. About this Episode Valerie Weisler is the founder of The Validation Project, originally created to help children being bullied in school, to now an international organization that unites teenagers in 105 countries to solve social justice issues. This sounds amazing, and it really is, but there is another ingredient that makes this story even more interesting. Val started The Validation Project when she was fourteen years old, when she was being bullied in school herself. Now at nineteen, she is busier than ever. She’s leading and expanding her organization. She’s also an ambassador for the U.S. Department of State, and she’s still in college. Val shares her story, from her early teen years, standing up against bullying, to how that transformed into a new path in life. I’ve been wanting to talk to Val for a while now, and to be honest, I was happily surprised by how this nineteen year old is following her passions — because at nineteen, I was nowhere near this focused. Also, I really love how Val’s work and ideas are personal. They stem from situations she’s experienced, and she wants to make sure her generation has a voice in solving them. Join Christopher for this bonus story from My Big Story with Christopher Swan as he shares this additional conversation outside of the official interview with past guest Tina Zettel. Tina is the owner of Willow Tree Bakery and a cake decorator known throughout the Sonoma Wine Country. In this brief episode, she shares stories about two cakes that turned into big cake wrecks. These funny anecdotes easily show that even successful people stumble at times—and Tina explains what to learn from the mistakes. Alex Babajanyan is an artist. But art alone wasn't the right fit. He opened an art academy—to teach his students art and how to see the world in a new way. His journey to founder was far from ordinary, including a project for the band U2, an illustration project at Disney, running a design company, and even working with Sean Penn on a documentary film. Alex now runs his academy in Los Angeles, CA and teaches art at a local elementary school. In the first episode of My Big Story (previously titled Living Your Journey), Christopher and Alex discuss his career journey diving into details and the things that helped him discover his larger passion.
