In this episode of "Cocoon Conversations" on the Career Flipper podcast, I, Jenny Dempsey, take you along on my career journey. This year, I've committed to opening up about my own career flip, just as I encourage my guests to do. So here we are, in May 2025, and I can hardly believe it's been four months since I started my current day job. It feels surreal to say that, especially considering I was laid off for two years before this.During this time, I've been balancing my full-time job with furniture restoration on the side, dedicating Sundays to it, and squeezing in podcasting and all the related tasks whenever I can. If that sounds overwhelming, it is! Life can be a juggling act, and I know I'm not alone in feeling this way. Scheduling time with friends often feels like a game of Tetris, as we all navigate our busy lives.I've always been the type of person who thrives on variety. I'm the one multitasking—doing laundry while putting away dishes, preparing to record a podcast, creating social media content for my furniture flipping page, and making sure my dog, Dwight, gets outside for a potty break. My brain has always thrived on this mix of activities, and I've been like this for as long as I can remember.Looking back, I've come to realize something significant. For a long time, I believed that work—capital W work—was my identity. I thought it was the only thing I was good at. I didn't believe in taking vacations; if I did, I'd bring my laptop along and continue working. I even had a panic attack in front of a customer service team I was managing because I was so consumed by my job. I poured everything into my work, only to learn the hard way that companies would replace me in an instant. When I was laid off and struggled to find a new job for two years, I was left questioning my identity. Who was I if I wasn't working?I dive into this and more in the episode! In Episode #228 of the XS Noize Music Podcast, host Mark Millar is joined by English singer-songwriter Will Varley to discuss his upcoming seventh album, Machines Will Never Learn To Make Mistakes Like Me, out 30th May 2025. Recorded in a ramshackle Kent swamp studio with longtime collaborator Tom Farrer, the album introduces a bold new sound, pairing lush, cinematic production with Varley's trademark storytelling. Inspired by the East Kent Coast and US Midwest, the songs explore broken relationships, life on the road, and mental resilience against global uncertainty. Featuring guest appearances from Billy Bragg, Eleni Drake, and Dan Smith of Bastille, the album captures the tension between everyday life and the looming sense of apocalypse — while still searching for light and hope. In this conversation, Will talks about the making of the album, his evolving creative process, and why storytelling still matters in uncertain times. Highlights include: Writing and recording in Kent and the US Midwest, Collaborating with Billy Bragg, Eleni Drake & Dan Smith, Touring life, mental health, reinvention, and A new sonic chapter for Varley. In this episode of the Better at Beach podcast, Mark Burik and Brandon Joiner discuss the importance of making mistakes the right way in beach volleyball. They emphasize the significance of focusing on the process rather than just results, celebrating recent successes in the sport, and the necessity of technique and feedback in improving performance. The conversation also touches on the discomfort that comes with growth and the value of trusting the learning process.

In my equine scent work session with Rum this week, I made a mistake that really highlighted the need for an errorless approach. He indicated on the wrong container, the blank without odour (in theory) and my instinct, was to offer no reinforcement, and redirect him to the search. Not really an errorless approach. In an errorless framework, we don't let the learner practise mistakes. Instead, we set up the training so they always have a clear path to success. In scent work, that means making the right choice easy and reinforcing it well, while using free food to reset if they make an unexpected response. When Rum got it ‘wrong,' the real error was mine, my container was potentially contaminated. I should have dropped food to reset and adjusted the setup to prevent it happening again. It's about guiding the learner rather than correcting them, so they're always working in a space where success is inevitable.trudi@equine.training if you have questionsPlease recommend the podcast, share it and like it.

Coercive control is about trying to take away someone's autonomy and agency. It's a form of domestic abuse that is often misunderstood and frequently dismissed. In this replay episode, I sit down with the incredible Laura Richards—renowned criminal behavioral analyst and expert on domestic violence—to break it all down. Laura and I discuss the misuse of terms like “narcissistic abuse” and “toxic relationships,” and why getting the terminology right is critical. When these words are misapplied, it can cause real harm, making it harder for victims to recognize what's happening to them and for others to take it seriously. We also talk about the broader societal factors that allow domestic violence to persist and why these patterns are so deeply embedded. We take a closer look at high-profile cases like Gabby Petito and Lauren Dunne Astley to illustrate how coercive control plays out in real life and the devastating consequences it can have. Laura also sheds light on how the media often memorializes male perpetrators while subtly placing blame on victims, a pattern that continues to fuel dangerous misconceptions. Beyond analyzing the problem, Laura shares the incredible work she's doing to have coercive control legally recognized as a form of domestic abuse. She explains why advocacy, education, and legal reform are essential to protecting victims and shifting the way society understands domestic violence. This is an eye-opening conversation, and one I hope will help others recognize coercive control for what it is. I was doing a basketball skills workout yesterday with some kids here in my town, and while in the middle of the workout, all of a sudden, this quote came out of my mouth. I said to the two parents (who are also coaches and also frequent listeners of this podcast!), "Hey, I think that's a quote I can use on my podcast!"Now, a day later, here it is. Dr. Roger McFillin welcomes back Clinical Psychologist Dr. Riz Ahmad to explore a fundamental question: "Does nature make mistakes?" Challenging conventional psychiatric approaches, they argue that what we label as mental illness is actually be the body's natural signals for change. The psychologists contrast traditional mental health treatment with 'functional mental health', which focuses on root causes and the interconnection between physical and mental well-being rather than subjective labels and drugs. Through practical examples, they advocate for a paradigm shift that considers the whole person - from lifestyle and nutrition to relationships and spiritual health - ultimately calling for a healthcare system that heals rather than simply suppresses symptoms.Chapters00:00The Health Crisis: A Fragmented Narrative03:18 The Interconnectedness of Mind and Body06:45 Challenging Conventional Mental Health Paradigms10:35 The Dopamine Dilemma: Pleasure and Pain15:50 Nature's Signals: Understanding Symptoms20:59 The Role of Nature in Health25:55 The Complexity of Mental Health Treatment30:20 Exploring Consciousness Beyond the Material35:52 The Power of Intention and Interconnectedness41:07 Reconnecting with Our True Nature45:46 The Impact of Light on Mental Health48:44 Integrating Psychology and Functional Medicine52:26 The Flaws in Allopathic Medicine56:17 Redefining Mental Health and Optimal Well-Being01:00:11 Contrasting Standard and Functional Approaches to Teen Mental Health01:12:25 Understanding Trauma and Its Effects01:21:45 The Interconnectedness of Mind, Body, and Emotion RADICALLY GENUINE PODCASTDr. Roger McFillin / Radically Genuine WebsiteYouTube @RadicallyGenuineDr. Roger McFillin (@DrMcFillin) / XSubstack | Radically Genuine | Dr. Roger McFillinInstagram @radicallygenuineContact Radically GenuineConscious Clinician CollectivePLEASE SUPPORT OUR PARTNERS15% Off Pure Spectrum CBD (Code: RadicallyGenuine)10% off Lovetuner click here—-----------FREE DOWNLOAD! We started this Blog talk about ten years ago. We went through 4 years of Donld Trump, and you might as well say four years of Joe Biden too. Only to get back to where we started. We are still asking the same questions. We did after Hillary Clinton lost the election. Where do we go from here? Are you just going to wait until election time and then criticize the other party for what they did not accomplish? As our party has done in the past. Put all the money behind a hand selected candidate and say. “If you don't vote for this person. You are casting a vote for the opposition.” Where?" And how has that worked in the past? We have yet to discuss the main issue of the past elections, but keep using the same approach to solve it. The republicans always seem to have the next move in place. So, as the media continues to repeat the narative. "We are playing cheekers, and they are playing chess.” We have a lot of Kings and Queens in our party, but we fail to realize, unless a Pawn makes a move. The game will never start. We have lost so many people on Blog Talk USA over the years. In the past. We have discuss many of the same issues on Blog Talk USA in the past. I have gone back and listened to our older shows. The only thing that has changed is the names. The results have spoken for themselves We need to acknowledge the people who are no longer with us. They gave us a reason to continue our fight. Me and Glass remember listening to Donny Walker (D-Walk), Sherman Simple (Big Simp) and Branden Johnson (The Gap Tooth Guru) expressing their thoughts on the same thing. In the future we will do a special show dedicated to the ones who are no longer here.

"Trump will Overplay his Hand - How to be Ready When He Does" I first read this essay from Journalist Asli Aydintasbas on Substack. Here is the link: https://robertreich.substack.com/p/trump-will-overplay-his-hand-be-ready. It was first published by Politico, "Trump Will Overplay His Hand. Here's How to Be Ready." Here is that link: https://www.politico.com/news/magazine/2024/12/01/anti-trumpists-guide-next-four-years-00191724 The author, was a political reporter in Turkey. Here is how she describes this experience: "I lived through the slow and steady march of state capture as a journalist working in Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's Turkey. Over a decade as a high-profile journalist, I covered Turkey's descent into illiberalism, having to engage in the daily push and pull with the government. I know how self-censorship starts in small ways but then creeps into operations on a daily basis. I am familiar with the rhythms of the battle to reshape the media, state institutions and the judiciary." Aydintasbas offers six tips on how to survive Trump's quest to become a Dictator, and how to be ready when he fails.

Others not so much. In this episode we discuss: how the brain lights up when a mistake is made, paying extra attention why being very wrong about a fact once ensures you will always remember it thereafter the difference between a fixed mindset and a growth mindset– and how mistakes encourage the latter Carol Dweck and what she calls the power of "not yet" how we can make our homes "mistake-friendly environments" Here are links to writing on the topic that we discuss in this episode: Claudia Wallis for Mind/Shift: Why Mistakes Matter in Creating A Path For Learning Dr. Janet Metcalfe, Columbia University: “Learning from Errors,” Carol S.
