Daily Boost Podcast Show Notes What Successful People Actually Do (Copy Them) August 11, 2025 | Episode 5156 Host: Scott Smith Episode Description Ready for some old-school wisdom? I'm taking you deep into my world of "observational motivation" - basically, I study successful people and figure out what makes them tick. From yacht owners to persistence masters, I've been watching winners my whole life. Today I'm sharing the real rules successful people follow, and trust me, some of these might surprise you. It's not just about working harder - it's about showing up right, never assuming, and yeah, learning how to serve others without giving everything away. Featured Story I share my favorite yacht story from Hilton Head, where I walked right up to a rich guy everyone was laughing at and asked him straight up: "How'd you get that beautiful yacht?" Next thing I know, I'm aboard drinking margaritas and swabbing the deck with him. That's observational motivation in action - while others judge from a distance, I get curious and model what works. Sometimes the best lessons come from just asking the right questions. Important Points The person with the strongest why will always win because they'll go to the mat and put up with more than anyone else. Showing up matters, but showing up on time matters even more - successful people treat punctuality like a competitive sport. When you serve others genuinely, everything you want in your life gets better, but serving doesn't mean giving discounts or working for free. Memorable Quotes "Success leaves clues. The funny thing is, unsuccess leaves clues too - you can see what you messed up." "The person with the strongest why is going to win because they'll stand the fight and put up with the most." "When you serve, when you get out there and serve people, everything you want in your life is going to get better." Scott's Three-Step Approach Start with your "what" before finding your "why" - you can't have a strong purpose until you know exactly what you want to achieve. Document your journey actively, not just passively - create an operating manual for your success instead of just journaling about it. Accept complete responsibility for yourself and your outcomes, even when it's easier to blame circumstances or other people. Connect With Me Search for The Daily Boost on Apple Podcasts and Spotify. Send us a textOn this week's Classic Rewind episode, we're revisiting one of our most powerful conversations from the archive - because the message is just as relevant (and needed) today as it was when it first aired. My guest is Jessica Procini, founder of Escape from Emotional Eating. Jessica is on a mission to help high-achieving women break free from the cycle of emotional eating - not by focusing on what's on their plate, but by uncovering and healing the emotional and psychological roots driving the behavior. In this candid and deeply insightful interview, Jessica shares her own journey with emotional eating - despite being a fitness instructor and nutrition school grad - and how traditional advice like “just eat healthier” or “try more willpower” completely missed the mark. We explore:What emotional eating actually is (it's not what you think)Why high performers are especially vulnerable to itThe four hidden “roots” of emotional eatingHow stress, self-loathing, and even celebration can trigger itWhy healing emotional eating goes far beyond therapy or meal plansA powerful tool to help you eat for energy - not emotion If you've ever found yourself turning to food for comfort, stress relief, or simply to take the edge off a busy day, this episode is a must-listen.

FAN MAIL--We would love YOUR feedback--Send us a Text MessageHave you ever stayed silent when something didn't seem right, just to avoid rocking the boat? Our latest Mojo Minute explores this universal tendency through a captivating story about a high school physics class, a covered telescope, and thirty-nine students who claimed to see planets that couldn't possibly be visible. This short but powerful episode unpacks a lesson from John Maxwell's "How Successful People Think" that perfectly illustrates how social conformity can blind us to obvious truths. When a physics teacher set up a telescope for students to observe planets, student after student pretended to see celestial bodies despite the lens cap remaining on the telescope! Only the second-to-last student had the courage to speak up about seeing nothing but darkness. This simple act of honesty revealed what now seems obvious - nobody could have seen anything at all.The courage to question, to seek clarity, and to speak up when something doesn't add up isn't about being difficult or contrarian. It's about approaching life with genuine curiosity and a sincere desire to understand. We explore how asking questions with the right tone and attitude can transform our relationships, deepen our understanding, and ultimately lead to a more flourishing life. When we break free from the pressure to go along with popular consensus and instead pursue authentic understanding, we often discover truths that have been hiding in plain sight.Key Points from the Episode:We explore how courage in questioning conventional wisdom leads to a flourishing life through a powerful story about a telescope demonstration gone wrong.• Professor Benno Mueller Hill's high school physics class telescope story where 39 students pretended to see planets despite the lens cap being on• How we often "go along to get along" instead of speaking up when something doesn't seem right• The importance of asking clarifying questions with genuine curiosity rather than to win arguments• Why questions asked with the right tone and sincere attitude can lead to better understanding• Commitment to asking good questions as a path to creating a flourishing lifeOther resources: Want to leave a review? In this transformative episode of Soul-Led CEO: Purpose Powered Success, Amen Kaur explores how people pleasing—a trauma response rooted in your nervous system—may be the very thing holding you back from the life and success you desire.Discover why mindset work alone often falls short and how your vagus nerve, the biological guardian of your safety, may be pulling the emergency brake whenever success feels threatening to your social bonds. Amen unpacks the subtle dynamics of indirect aggression, generational trauma, and the insatiable need for validation, offering practical tools to help you release what's not yours and reclaim your power. The most successful people aren't necessarily more talented—they've simply mastered the ability to feel safe even when disliked. This episode is your permission slip to stop betraying yourself for approval, transmute fear into embodied power, and step into a new paradigm of purpose-driven, heart-centered leadership. You are not broken. You are awakening. FAN MAIL--We would love YOUR feedback--Send us a Text MessageWhat makes successful people think differently? In this powerful episode of Theory to Action, we explore the strategic thinking methods of John Maxwell from his book "How Successful People Think" that can transform how you approach challenges in your life.Maxwell teaches us that strategic thinking takes what seems overwhelming and breaks it down into manageable pieces. "Anything becomes simpler when it has a plan," he writes, echoing the wisdom of Navy SEALs Jocko Willink and Leif Babin who emphasize keeping things simple for maximum effectiveness. When we break complexity into clarity, we create actionable pathways forward instead of remaining paralyzed by overwhelm. The second key to successful thinking lies in developing systems—which Maxwell defines brilliantly as "good strategies repeated." His personal filing system of 1,200 categorized quotes, stories, and articles serves as a perfect example of how organization creates freedom. Rather than starting from scratch each time he prepares a speech, Maxwell's system allows him to quickly access relevant material. This parallels our own robust searchable database at Team Mojo Academy, where over 500 episodes of wisdom await your exploration. These two principles—breaking down complexity and creating repeatable systems—form the foundation of strategic thinking that leads to a flourishing life. Like virtues and positive habits, good strategies repeated consistently yield compounding results over time. What complex challenge could you break down today? What system might help you repeat your best strategies? The path to thinking like successful people is clear: simplify the complex, systematize the effective, and watch your life transform.Key Points from the Episode:• John Maxwell's filing system with 1,200 files demonstrates effective organization for speaking and writing• Complex issues become manageable when broken down through strategic thinking• Simple plans are the most effective plans, as taught by Navy SEALs Jocko Willink and Leif Babin• Successful people create and use systems to repeat good strategies• Good strategies repeated function similarly to good virtues and habits practiced consistently• The Team Mojo Academy website features a robust search function across 500+ episodesBe sure to check out our show page at teammojoacademy.com, where we have everything we discussed in this podcast, as well as other great resources.Other resources: Want to leave a review? Extremely Successful People MUST Have Personality Disorders

In this thought-provoking episode, Keith Kalfas explores the challenging relationship between empathy and achieving extreme success. He argues that highly successful individuals often have to develop skills akin to a 'personality disorder' to manage their emotions and compartmentalize stressful situations. Through various analogies and insights, the episode delves into the necessity of conscious competence, emotional regulation, and high-level compartmentalization. Keith shares personal experiences, discusses influential figures like Dan Kennedy, and emphasizes the importance of developing oneself to meet a higher calling and achieve long-term success.   "Success isn't just about reaching the top—it's about mastering the delicate balance between empathy and the traits that may seem discordant with it. In the pursuit of greatness, we must learn to compartmentalize, adapt, and evolve, understanding that what appears as disorder may, in fact, be the order required for extraordinary achievement." - Keith Topics Covered: Introduction: Are You an Empath? The Necessity of Developing a Personality Disorder Compartmentalizing Emotions for Success Handling Stress and Maintaining Professionalism The Role of Empathy in Leadership The Importance of Emotional Maturity The Power of the Empathetic Witness Higher Levels of Consciousness The Butterfly Effect of Peace and Love Spiritual Insights and Personal Revelations Final Thoughts and Encouragement Key Takeaways The Complex Reality of Extreme Success: The journey to achieving success is undoubtedly fraught with hurdles that test one's mental fortitude. Successful people encounter stressful situations daily, similar to being in a batting cage with baseballs hurling at them from all angles. Yet, they demonstrate a profound ability to switch gears and remain composed, much like donning various hats seamlessly.   The Art of Compartmentalization: The ability to context switch is not just a survival mechanism—it's an art form that many successful people practice. They can leave a heated discussion or family dispute and shift immediately into a productive business mindset. This skill may appear almost sociopathic, but it is, in essence, a testament to their emotional intelligence and maturity.   Leadership Through Empathy and Understanding: If you're somebody with high empathy, crafting this balance can feel unethical or even inauthentic. Yet, to thrive in today's competitive world, understanding how to control your emotional outputs is crucial. Even though our ancestors relied on tribal support to process their emotional experiences, today's society demands a different strategy—one where emotions are acknowledged but not allowed to disrupt business.   The Role of Perspective and Gratitude: At the core of this practice is a profound sense of gratitude and the recognition that we are all standing on the shoulders of those who came before us. The opportunities we have today are built on the back of countless sacrifices and innovations of our forebears. This awareness can be a powerful motivator, inspiring us to rise above our emotional turbulence and seize the opportunities available to us.     Connect with Keith Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/keithkalfas/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/thelandscapingemployeetrap Website: https://www.keithkalfas.com/resources Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/@keith-kalfas   Resources and Websites:
