Según la Organización de las Naciones Unidas para la Alimentación y el Agro, más conocida como FAO, la producción agrícola tiene que crecer un 70% para el ano 2050 para acompañar el crecimiento de la población mundial. Sin embargo, nos vemos enfrentados a desafíos con el cambio climático, erosión de suelos y perdida de nutrientes.Cuando escuchamos hablar de la fertilidad del suelo, uno generalmente piensa en la fertilidad química, que componentes de Fosforo, Potasio o Calcio tiene el suelo, o la fertilidad física, que tan poroso es, o que capacidad de retener agua tiene, pero poco se habla de la fertilidad biológica, de que microorganismos viven en el suelo.Y resulta que tener un suelo vivo es fundamental porque hay todo un sistema que se retroalimenta positivamente. Una cadena trófica equilibrada no solamente es buena para el medio ambiente, sino que también es beneficioso para las plantas. Está demostrado que con un buen sistema trófico las plantas pueden recibir hasta el 85% de los alimentos que necesita de forma natural, sin fertilizantes, y también puede resistir pestes y hasta ser más resistentes a los cambios climáticos, todo esto sin el uso de agroquímicos. Un equilibrio biológico entonces baja los costos para el productor y aumenta el rinde de sus cultivos. Hay prácticas como la siembra directa o mantener el suelo cubierto que ya se están implementando en Uruguay y que ayudan a mantener las propiedades del suelo. ¿Pero qué puede hacer un productor regenerar su suelo y obtener los beneficios que un suelo biodiverso y equilibrado brinda? Aquí es donde viene SOSEI. SOSEI es una empresa que brinda soluciones biotecnológicas a medida para promover la agricultura y la ganadería regenerativa. En otras palabras, SOSEI hace un seguimiento de la fertilidad biológica del suelo, midiendo bioindicadores, para así poder evaluar su estado inicial. Luego, ayudan a sus clientes a diseñar un plan de regeneración a medida, y medir la evolución de la biología del suelo.
