Gisteren publiceerde De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB) zijn bevindingen over de financiële stabiliteit, en werd duidelijk dat de bank 10 procent gaat bezuinigen op de eigen bedrijfsvoering. Volgens macro-econoom Edin Mujagic is dat een duidelijk teken dat er een nieuwe leider aan het hoofd staat. Waarom is het zo duidelijk dat DNB een nieuwe leider heeft? Dat zie je onder andere aan hoe hij zich de afgelopen tijd heeft uitgelaten over de eurobonds, de gezamenlijke schulden op Europees niveau. Daar is de nieuwe president van DNB, Olaf Sleijpen, behoorlijk kritisch over. Hij zegt: ga daar niet zomaar in mee als Den Haag, want het risico is dat je zo stimuleert om nog meer schulden aan te nemen. Terwijl hij vindt dat de schulden in Europa juist omlaag moeten. Dit zijn dingen waarvan ik denk: hulde, dit geluid hebben we nodig. En waar ik persoonlijk op wacht, is het voorjaar van volgend jaar, wanneer het jaarverslag van DNB verschijnt. Daarin staat een voorwoord van de president, het eerste voorwoord van Sleijpen. Waar ik de afgelopen jaren steeds naar heb gekeken, is: komt het woord geldhoeveelheid, of de groei daarvan, erin voor? De afgelopen jaren was dat vaak nul keer. Ik hoop dat dat volgend jaar anders is.
