Meet Our Guests: H. E. Serkong Tsenshap Rinpoche H. E. Serkong Tsenshap Rinpoche was born in the Spiti valley, in India, in 1984. At the age of two, Tsenshap Serkong Rinpoche II (1984 – present) pointed to the photo of the recently deceased Assistant Tutor of the 14th Dalai Lama and said, “That's me!” When he was about three years old he was recognized by His Holiness the Dalai Lama as the incarnation of Kyabje Tsenshap Serkong Tugse Rinpoche (1914-1983), who was one of the seven master debate partners to His Holiness the Dalai Lama. Rinpoche began his Buddhist studies and training at Ganden Jangtse Monastery in South India. After deciding to continue his work for the Dharma as a lay person, he completed his education at the Institute of Buddhist Dialectics in Dharamsala. On the advice of the Dalai Lama, Rinpoche completed three years of intensive study of English in Canada. Rinpoche teaches at Dharma Centers around the world, combining his experience of the study and practice of Buddhism with his acquaintance with the Western world. His fascinating teachings are full of wisdom, grace, and humor. Rinpoche feels privileged to continue the responsibilities of Tsenshap Serkong Tugse Rinpoche to teach and benefit people as much as he can. Atisha Mathur, Ph.D. Dr. Atisha Mathur was born and brought up in New Delhi, India. He pursued his undergraduate studies in Language and Literature of South Asia, with a focus on Tibetan studies, at the esteemed Orientale in Naples, Italy. His scholarly pursuits led him to the Central University of Tibetan Studies in Sarnath, India, where he was first immersed in the traditional approach to Buddhist studies. Atisha then completed a rigorous 10-year study program at the Institute of Buddhist Dialectics in Dharamsala which emphasizes logic, debate, and the major Indian and Tibetan treatises. In 2024, he earned his doctoral degree in Buddhist Studies at L’Orientale in Naples, Italy. Since 2019, Atisha has generously shared his expertise in logic and debate with groups of students from all over the world. Bio and photo courtesy of https://www.serkonginstitute.org/teachers Fabrizio Pallotti Fabrizio Pallotti (Champa Pelgye) has been studying and practicing Buddhism since 1979. Fully ordained by His Holiness the Dalai Lama in 1982, he lived in India from 1987 to 1993, where he learned Tibetan under the guidance of great first-generation masters such as Lama Zopa Rinpoche, Kirti Tsenshab Rinpoche, Ribur Rinpoche, Denma Locho Rinpoche and His Holiness the Dalai Lama. For eight years, he lived permanently with Kyabje Ribur Rinpoche, one of the great lamas of Tibet, serving as his translator and secretary. At the request of Lama Zopa Rinpoche, he then served at the Lama Tsong Khapa Institute as a Tibetan-to-English translator for the Master’s Program. For many years he has been the official Italian translator of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. He is the founder and president of the Manjushri Lotsawa Association and the Sarva Yoga Citta Academy—Yoga of the Mind. What does it mean to find home in a wounded world? In this deeply moving episode of Now and Then ...Again, host Wendy VanderWal Martin welcomes Dr. Carlos Thompson, professor of Christian Ministry and Disability at Western Theological Seminary and steward of the Friendship House Fellows Program. Fresh from his keynote address at the Henri Nouwen Society's international conference, Longing for Home: The Prophetic Witness of Henri Nouwen in a Wounded World, Carlos reflects on the enduring wisdom of Henri Nouwen and the surprising places where God meets us. Drawing from Nouwen's vision of the “wounded healer,” Carlos explores why our deepest longings cannot be fulfilled through achievement, expertise, or self-sufficiency. Instead, home is something we receive—not create. Through stories of community, disability, friendship, and faith, he offers a powerful invitation to embrace vulnerability, honor our human neediness, and become fellow travelers with one another. This conversation challenges the myth of independence and reveals how belonging is discovered in relationship—with God and with others. Thoughtful, honest, and hope-filled, it is a rich exploration of what it means to slow down, “waste time” with Jesus, and discover that the very needs we try to hide may be the doorway to divine belonging. My spotlight is on Green Living Because of A LOT of Talk this Year About Global Warming & the Eco-System.Enertia Homes recieved an Energy Efficiency Award from the US Department of Energy. Enertia® Homes use an ingenious design, and the science of materials, to heat and cool buildings without fuel or electricity. Fitted with Photovoltaic panels, and a metal seamed roof, homes can be self-reliant for heating, cooling, electricity, water and food. This is a modern Building System, an integrated group of innovations and a construction technique so basic, yet amazing and effective, it has been called a Modern Marvel- A Time Magazine Invention of the Year & Zayed Future Energy Prize, "Innovative Structure of the Century Award", AWPI Century's Best Award. These are not conventional “stick-frame” single-generation houses. The walls are solid wood, and the design life is hundreds of years. Comfort is by design and from a unique structural material, not from a mechanical/ electric compressor or furnace. The roof can generate electricity and capture water. The sun space harvests energy, and in it you can harvest food. Math doesn't have to be intimidating, especially when it's the kind that helps fund companies and move science forward. In this episode, host Elaine Hamm, PhD, is joined by Isaiah Reeves, PhD, Biomedical Analyst at Solas BioVentures, for a practical and approachable deep dive into venture math. Drawing on his background as a scientist turned investor, Isaiah breaks down the core financial concepts every biotech founder should understand: from valuations and dilution to IRR, cap tables, and deal terms. The conversation offers real-world guidance for navigating fundraising, choosing the right partners, and avoiding common pitfalls that can derail long-term value creation. In this episode, you'll learn: How venture capitalists think about valuations, dilution, and returns, and why fully diluted post-money matters. Key metrics like IRR and DPI, and how they influence investment decisions and fund performance. Common deal terms and cap table “red flags” founders should watch out for as they raise capital. Tune in to learn how understanding venture math can help founders make smarter funding decisions, protect long-term value, and build biotech companies positioned for sustainable growth and impact. Are bio-identical hormones safe — and are they right for you? In this Tea & Truth episode, we're having an honest, grounded conversation about bio-identical hormones, hormone therapy, menopause symptoms, and the questions women in midlife deserve to ask before making decisions about their bodies. We'll talk about what "bio-identical" really means, why it doesn't automatically mean safer or risk-free, the difference between FDA-approved and custom-compounded hormone therapy, and why your personal history, symptoms, timing, and risk factors all matter. You'll also hear a little of my own story — including why bio-identical hormones didn't work well for me years ago, and why I still believe every woman deserves an informed, individualized conversation with a qualified provider. Plus, I created a free companion guide for this episode: Hormone Therapy Questions to Ask Your Provider: A Midlife Woman's Conversation Guide, to help you organize your symptoms, clarify your questions, and walk into your appointment feeling more prepared — not pressured. Bio-identical hormones can sound like the perfect "natural" answer to midlife symptoms — especially when you're exhausted, not sleeping, dealing with hot flashes, feeling foggy, anxious, dry, achy, moody, or simply not like yourself. But the truth is, the conversation is more nuanced than that. In this episode of Tea & Truth: Honest Talk for Women in Midlife, we're unpacking what bio-identical hormones really are, what women need to understand about safety, and why "natural" doesn't automatically mean risk-free. This is not an episode about telling every woman to use hormone therapy. And it's not an episode about telling every woman to avoid it. Instead, this is a grounded, empowering conversation to help you better understand your options, ask better questions, and advocate for yourself with more confidence. Current menopause guidance recognizes hormone therapy as an effective treatment for bothersome hot flashes and night sweats, and notes that for many healthy symptomatic women under age 60 or within 10 years of menopause, the benefit-risk ratio may be favorable when treatment is individualized. At the same time, professional organizations urge caution around custom-compounded bio-identical hormone therapy, especially when FDA-approved options are available, because claims of superior safety or effectiveness are not well supported. In this episode, I'm also sharing my personal experience with trying bio-identical hormones years ago — and why they didn't work well for me at that time. But I also share why that experience doesn't mean hormone therapy is wrong for every woman, especially since the conversation around dosing, timing, delivery methods, and individualized care has changed significantly. Because here's the truth: Your body deserves more than fear. Your body deserves more than marketing. Your body deserves thoughtful, informed, personalized care. In this episode, we talk about: ✨ What bio-identical hormones actually are ✨ Why bio-identical does not automatically mean compounded ✨ The difference between FDA-approved and custom-compounded hormone therapy ✨ Why "natural" does not always mean risk-free ✨ Why timing, dose, route, and personal history matter ✨ Why some women may need extra caution with hormone therapy ✨ Questions to ask your healthcare provider before deciding ✨ Why holistic foundations still matter whether you use hormones or not ✨ How to advocate for yourself without fear, pressure, or confusion Listen in to learn:

Good morning, my friends. Let's take a breath together… In through the nose… and out through the mouth. Today, I want to talk about something we all wrestle with quietly, privately, sometimes without even realizing it. That invisible little bubble we build around ourselves called "the comfort zone", and listen… comfort zones aren't bad. They're familiar. Predictable. Safe. They're the routines we know, the habits we've mastered, the identities we've worn for years. But here's the truth we don't always want to admit: Comfort zones feel safe… until they start feeling small. Why stepping out feels so hard Your brain is wired for efficiency, not growth. It loves patterns. It loves certainty. It loves knowing exactly what's going to happen next. So when you try to step outside that bubble even for something good your brain throws up alarms.“Hey… this is new.” “This is uncomfortable.” “Let's go back to what we know.”And that's not weakness. That's not laziness. That's not a character flaw. That's biology. But here's the beautiful part: You can train your brain to handle discomfort. You can build courage the same way you build muscle through repetition, through exposure, through movement.Movement as the training ground for courage This is why I love fitness. Not because of the aesthetics. Not because of the numbers. But because movement is one of the safest, most accessible ways to practice stepping out of your comfort zone.Think about it, when you push for one more rep… Your brain learns, “I can do hard things.” When you try a new class or a new exercise… Your brain learns, “I can be a beginner.” When you go for a walk even when you don't feel like it… Your brain learns, “I can act without motivation.” When your heart rate rises and you stay with it… Your brain learns, “Discomfort isn't danger.” Every time you move, you're not just training your body, you're training your mindset. Movement becomes a daily rehearsal for bravery. There was a time not too long ago when I avoided something simply because it felt unfamiliar. Not because I couldn't do it. Not because it was impossible. Just because it was new and because I didn't want to be "seen" because I felt so self-conscious teaching a group movement class (body dysmorphia sucks let me tell you)And the moment I finally stepped into it, I realized something powerful: The fear wasn't about the task. It was about the identity shift. Trying something new forces you to say, “I'm willing to be someone I haven't been yet.” and that's uncomfortable. But it's also where growth lives! then I began getting all the positive feedback and the classes were an instant hit which was everything to me to know people felt welcomed and had found value in the way I taught the class...Grounding Moment Time! Let's pause here. Wherever you are, sitting, standing, driving, walking, just take a moment to feel your feet on the ground. Feel your breath. Feel your body. Feel yourself arriving in this moment. Now ask yourself gently, without judgment: Where have I been playing small? Where have I been choosing comfort over growth? Where have I been waiting for the “right moment” to try something new? And now… offer yourself compassion. Because you're human and humans grow slowly, steadily, bravely, one step at a time.Your Monday Morning Brew Challenge Today, I want you to do one small thing that nudges you out of your comfort zone. Not a leap. Not a reinvention. Just a nudge.Maybe it's a 5‑minute walk before a tough meeting. Maybe it's trying a new exercise. Maybe it's saying yes to something that scares you a little. Maybe it's saying no to something that drains you.Whatever it is, let movement be your warm‑up. Let your body remind your brain: “I can do hard things. I can handle discomfort. I can grow.”You don't have to break out of your comfort zone in one dramatic moment. You don't have to flip your life upside down. You don't have to become fearless. You just have to step. One small, intentional step and every step teaches your brain that you're capable of more than you think. So here's to courage. Here's to growth. Here's to the tiny, powerful choices that shape who we become. Have a strong, grounded Monday, my friends. Let's keep moving forward together. like my Dad says "nunca des un paso atras, ni para impulso" which means "never take 1 step back, not even for a boost forward"... Thank you for taking time out of your day to spend it with me and I really do hope you enjoyed today's Monday morning brew series. If today's message helped you, share it with someone who might need it. Stay present, stay consistent, and keep building the identity you want to live in. Remember that You're capable, you're resilient, and you're not alone in this journey. Be a kind human, let us continue to help, let us continue to lift each-other up whenever possible... and remember that when it seems really dark when things are really tough... look for the helpers and always strive to be the change you want to see in the world... As always, take care of yourself, take care of your body, take care of your mind... California recorded its second-lowest Sierra Nevada snowpack on record this spring. That's not just a bad ski season, it's a water supply crisis. Snowpack is where California's water comes from. And when it doesn't materialize, agriculture, hydropower, and fire suppression all feel the strain. Dacia Leon, CEO and co-founder of Supercool Earth, is building a company around a deceptively simple idea: use biology to make it rain and snow where it's needed most, on demand. Her company's core technology involves engineering microbes to produce high quantities of this pure protein cheaply, which is then used in snowmaking machines and for cloud seeding. Supercool Earth is targeting high-margin markets first, starting with a snow-making additive for ski resorts. It's a cheaper, greener, and scalable alternative to existing products like Snomax largely because it's made of pure, biodegradable protein (no bacterial cells), has no smell, and is stable at room temperature. The company is intentionally using natural proteins instead of non-degrading silver iodide used in traditional cloud seeding to streamline the regulatory process through EPA TSCA, which is faster than dealing with GMO regulations. In this episode, Lara Pierpoint talks with Dacia about the science and commercial strategy behind Supercool Earth, the lessons she's carrying from Bio 1.0 failures, the public perception challenges around geoengineering, and what she'd do if $100 million landed in the company's bank account tomorrow. “The person who has always been my uncle, and whenever he comes to the house, I'm running to him. He buys me sweets, this is like my uncle. And then one day they said, oh, this your husband. I'm like, what? At that point I hated myself, I hated my mum because I wanted an adult to fight for me but she just did not have it to fight because she was so scared of my dad.” BBC journalist Megha Mohan speaks to Sierra Leone's first lady, Fatima Bio, about escaping child marriage at the age of 13, rebuilding her life as a refugee in London, and her rise to become one of the country's most outspoken public figures. Since becoming first lady, Bio has transformed the role in Sierra Leone, campaigning publicly on issues including child marriage, sexual violence and period poverty. To supporters, she is a refreshing voice in politics, who speaks up for women and girls, while others say she has overstepped her remit and that she is too vocal and too involved in the running of her husband's party. On today's episode, investigative journalists Mandy Matney and Liz Farrell have to share a little warning first: What you're about to hear today is NOT for kids' ears. Which is sad to say because it's about law enforcement officers and what they do at the workplace. In October 2020, an Horry County Police Officer, applying to work for Highway Patrol, was given a polygraph test as part of a pre-employment screening at South Carolina Department of Public Safety. The results of the test turned out to be so shocking that officials there reached out to the Horry County Police Department to let them know that they had a problem — problems that included sexual misconduct of officers, masturbation at work, drunk driving, sexting photos of genitals while in uniform and even potential child abuse. According to several sources close to the situation, this polygraph is what led to the outing of what is referred to among current and former officers as the Green Sea 14 — a group of officers, plus firefighters, who were having sex on duty and at police facilities. As Mandy and Liz continue to dig into what Green Sea 14 means, who was involved, how far up in ranks the officers went and why it seemed to be swept under the rug by leadership, today they share what they found in the investigation file of one officer and what they think it says about the department as a whole, as well as those with the power to fix the problems. Let's Dive in…
