Pyrferno has been into electronic music since 2009, but decided to pick up DJing on SecondLife a mere 3 years ago. Since then, Pyr has played across cons like Megaplex, Indyfurcon, Midwest Furfest, and more recently Texas Furry Fiesta. In 2017, Pyrferno was hired on to manage and coordinate FRC's biweekly podcast, and constructed a newsletter for the telegram group Electronic Music Furs, with articles inciting information about music happenings in the furry fandom. Pyr's sets are mostly loaded with trance, undeniable energy, and a reflective love for the community. I was presenting as a lecturer for the NABCEP solar convention in a suburb of Dallas Texas. While taking a stroll outside away from the crowds to call my wife, I found myself in the presence of a six-foot Wolf. For a split second I though there was a mascot convention. Then it hit me, there is a Furry in my presence. The next feeling was of extreme calm. Think back to when you were a kid and if Chucky Cheese said "Hi".  I lost my cool, and said to my wife, "There is a Furry here".  My wife said I must take a picture, which I did. That was the short version of my Furry first encounter. After graciously taking a picture with me, this 6 foot plus Wolf hugged me with the warmest embrace I had encountered in years. WOW! Life is AWESOME! Let's Take a step back My initial impression of the furry culture was delivered to me by the HBO television show "Entourage". The Image was not PG 13.  As with All mass media and television fiction,  99% of media must be taken with a serious grain of salt and liberty. Once immersed in the Furry Fandom world a sense of calm, wonder and total acceptance hit me like an outer body experience. Due to my obligations with the show and packing my show material I was forced to stay and extra day. Thank the Heavens! If I seem excited, it's because it's true. I was like a child again. Knowing I would be able to experience at least a cursory experience with the growing number of Furries and People with tails in the hotels I had to inquire about an interview. My good fortune shined. I inquired to the epicenter of the festivities where I was told the media person for the Texas Furry Fiesta, Patrick, would gladly supply me with an interview. How lucky was I? As I met Patrick, he graciously provided a media pass(WHAT!) and granted me and interview. I had to sign some papers and release forms, which is to be expected. [caption id="attachment_1291" align="aligncenter" width="225"] Furry Fandom Couple[/caption] The rule and the Interview Patrick granted me a great interview and treated me so graciously. During our Chit chat, I discovered Patrick and I are from the same city in Michigan. Beat that Kevin Beacon! I was escorted to a really nice conference room where I conducted the Interview with Patrick. There are many misconceptions related to the Furry culture. I was respectful in the knowing, I was Furry Ignorant.  Conducting the interview Patrick gave great insights about the history and global popularity of Furry Fandom. SCI-FI Subculture The history of the Furry phenom birthed from the SCI-FI conventions in the 1980's.  The Furry Fandom culture is about acceptance. I was truly surprised to find such a presence in the heart of Texas. Texas can be very conservative in thought.  The experience was very eye-opening. After our interview, I was promptly given the rules of engagement and told where I could have access. New level of Nice - Question & Answer [caption id="attachment_1289" align="alignleft" width="221"] Texas Furry Fiesta[/caption]   Surrounded by Furries as I trekked through the conventions outer halls, I was able to question and interact with many of the participants. I learned this is a lifestyle. Typical Furies tend to be shy individuals who prefer the company of non-judgemental humans. I found one young woman who detailed her activities as a Furry suit designer. They are Super Human. To wear a full Furry persona requires a great deal of hydration, as many of the suits reach temperatures exceeding 130 degrees. Many participants were these items for hours. It is not uncommon for an event of this nature for the ambulance to show up from heat related issues.  Because of sweat, a great deal when wearing a costume is common the need for bathroom breaks are low and difficult.  Indeed many of the outfits are heavy and cumbersome to move about.  Most Furry Fandom participants are direct from the gaming surprise. No surprise. You will be amazed at the loving nature of these individuals. The most certain outcome will be a transporting back to you innocent child-like self. As your eyes widen and a smile washes over your heart, your interpretation of the world may change for the better.
