In 2013, Gregg Renfrew founded Beautycounter—the beauty brand that pioneered what we know today as the clean beauty movement. The brand gained a well-respected reputation for its commitment to using safe ingredients in its products and for refusing to include any formulas that contained questionable or harmful chemicals. Diarrha N'Diaye is the founder and CEO of Ami Colé—the beloved beauty brand known for its dedication to celebrating melanin-rich skin. N'Diaye first stepped into the beauty industry by working in social media marketing. She became a go-to expert in digital content management, lending her expertise to brands across fashion, beauty, and editorial sectors. She then transitioned into product development when she was recruited to work at Glossier during its heyday. By the time N'Diaye conceived the idea for her own brand, which would focus on darker skin, she knew exactly what it took to create a product and market it effectively. Her years of experience in every step of that process prepared her to launch Ami Colé in 2019. After growing a loyal community and winning over 80 awards for her products, she made the difficult decision to shut down her brand earlier this year. Her announcement prompted an outpouring of grief from the people who saw themselves in Ami Colé. But now, N'Diaye's more than ready for whatever her new chapter holds after building a hugely successful company from scratch. Jennifer Anderson is the founder of Kids Eat in Color, a platform dedicated to providing families with the resources they need to feed their children nutritious foods and build healthy eating habits. Anderson's passion for nutrition started during her time working in the nonprofit space, leading after-school snack programs. Her experience inspired her to go back to school and study the science of nutrition. After earning her master's degree in public health and becoming a registered dietician, she went on to lend her expertise to various nutritional education programs, including the USDA's SNAP-Ed program, an initiative aimed at providing nutritional resources to low-income families nationwide. But even with all of her experience working as an expert in the field, Anderson struggled to feed her children. She started documenting the meals she'd make for her kids on Instagram, sharing her strategies for how to get them to eat different food groups with other parents who might be struggling to feed their picky eaters. Sarah Harrelson is the founder and editor in chief of Cultured Magazine. She initially thought about going into politics, but things changed when she discovered her love for publishing as an intern at Elle. Katlin Smith is the founder and CEO of Simple Mills, a food company that makes a wide array of delicious gluten-free, grain-free, paleo-friendly, and non-GMO foods. Before starting her own company from scratch, Smith was a strategy and operations consultant. Alyson Stoner is the founder and CEO of Movement Genius, a mental health platform designed to support child performers.
