Is God closer than we think? Join us as we rediscover heaven and explore the profound reality of God's presence in our lives. This episode dives into the meaning of "heaven" in scripture, challenging traditional views and unpacking the closeness of God in the very air we breathe. The hosts thoughtfully discuss the intersections of Christianity, faith, and politics, addressing cultural challenges and the role of the church in society. With themes like cruciformity and justice, they unpack how the teachings of Jesus invite us into a life of humility, curiosity, and critical engagement with faith. Throughout the conversation, we examine how misconceptions about heaven and God's proximity have shaped faith practices and cultural narratives, often distorting the gospel message. Drawing on examples from scripture and modern-day challenges, we seek to understand how faith can transcend ideological boundaries and bring hope to our communities. Feel free to email in questions, engage the conversation on Facebook and Instagram, or share your thoughts as we pursue dialogue and learning together. We encourage and would love discussion as we explore faith, cultural issues, and theology with honesty and openness. God has given everyone a general revelation of himself by displaying the beauty and power of creation. Though some reject this truth, it is obvious in the heart and mind of man that there is a God.Main Points:1. As we look around at our world, we see the clues God has left. When you stand at the Grand Canyon, you can't help but be overwhelmed at the mighty power of God to create such magnificence. When you see the vast Pacific Ocean, the power of Niagara Falls, the grandeur of the Rocky Mountains, you know there must be a creator.2. I believe King Solomon was right when he said in Ecclesiastes, “God has put eternity on our hearts.” The longing we feel, the cravings we experience, and the unfulfilled desires all leads us to the one who can meet every need and satisfy our every desire. His name is Jesus. He is the Son of God, our Savior, and our Lord.3. Seasons come and seasons go, but nothing in this life is completely satisfying. Solomon said, “it's all vanity.” But through it all, we have a glimpse of something more. We recognize this world is not our home. Creation points to a God who is in control and one who has given us a Savior.Today's Scripture Verses:Romans 1:20 - “For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.”Ecclesiastes 3:11 states God has “set eternity in the human heart.”Psalm 19:1 - “The Heavens declare the glory of God.”Quick Links:Donate to support this podcastLeave a review on Apple PodcastsGet a copy of The 5 Minute Discipleship JournalConnect on SocialJoin The 5 Minute Discipleship Facebook Group
Welcome to Day 2760 of Wisdom-Trek. Thank you for joining me. This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to Wisdom. Day 2760 – Wisdom Nuggets – Psalm 103:7-18 – Daily Wisdom Wisdom-Trek Podcast Script - Day 2760 Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps! I am Guthrie Chamberlain, and we are on Day 2760 of our Trek. The Purpose of Wisdom-Trek is to create a legacy of wisdom, to seek out discernment and insights, and to boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. The Title for today's Wisdom-Trek is: The Geometry of Grace – As High as the Heavens, As Far as the East. Today, we continue our ascent up the magnificent peak of Psalm One Hundred Three. We are exploring the heart of the psalm, verses seven through eighteen, in the New Living Translation. In our previous trek, we heard King David preaching a sermon to his own soul. He commanded himself to "Bless the Lord" and not to forget His benefits. We listed those benefits: He forgives all sins, heals all diseases, redeems us from the Pit, and crowns us with love and tender mercies. It was a celebration of what God does. But today, David goes deeper. He moves from God's acts to God's nature. He asks the question: Why does God do these things? What is it about His character that makes Him forgive a sinner like me? In this section, David gives us the definitive theology of the heart of God. He takes us back to the mountain of Sinai to hear God's own description of Himself. He uses the vastness of the cosmos to measure God's love. And then, he looks at us—frail, dusty, fleeting humanity—and explains why God's response to our weakness is not judgment, but fatherly compassion. So, let us stand in awe as we measure the dimensions of grace. The First Segment is: The Magna Carta of Mercy: God's Self-Revelation. Psalm One Hundred Three: verses seven through eight. He revealed his character to Moses and his deeds to the people of Israel. The Lord is compassionate and merciful, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love. David begins by grounding his praise in history. He isn't guessing what God is like; he is remembering what God said. "He revealed his character to Moses and his deeds to the people of Israel." Specifically, David is quoting Exodus Thirty-four, verse six. This moment occurred right after the Golden Calf incident—Israel's great act of spiritual adultery. Moses asked to see God's glory, and God passed by and proclaimed His name. This declaration in verse eight—"The Lord is compassionate and merciful, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love"—is the most quoted verse in the entire Old Testament. It is the Jewish Creed of Grace. Let's break down these four pillars of God's heart: Compassionate (Rachum): Related to the word for "womb." It describes a mother's visceral feeling for her helpless infant. Merciful (Chanun): Meaning gracious, generous, giving favor that is undeserved. Slow to Get Angry (Erek Apayim): Literally, "Long of Nose." In Hebrew idiom, anger was associated with a hot nose or snorting. To be "long of nose" means it takes a long time for God's nose to get hot. He has a very long...

MAL Description: It was 3002, and the human civilization had crumbled and rebuilt itself again and again over the thousand years, despite the destruction and challenge brought by the harsh nature. In this era of constant war against nature and havoc, construction teams were the star of the economy system, the conquering force as well as a weapon themselves, because heavy robots were used in construction works to speed up efficiency. Jumbor was the leader of a famous construction team of a little country with a cute princess. One day, as their group was about to start the reconstruction work of a tunnel which was destroyed by an earthquake, a much more powerful construction team arrived and claimed the land in no time, killing Jumbor who tried to protect his teammates against the cruel opponents... Jumbor woke up in 3007, finding himself revived in his own clone body (memory transplanted) which has a physical age of 5 years old, and in addition to that, his body was partly mechanized. His robot arms are linked up to and directly controlled by his brain's signals. He was told that the country had gone and the princess and the king disappeared, and he discovered that his mechanized body is very powerful. He was also told he was 'last of the series. When did Christianity begin? Most people would probably say that Christianity began with the birth of Jesus Christ. But in Chapter 10 of Romans, the apostle Paul sets forth an astonishing truth: that the gospel had been known for hundreds of years before Christ. In this laid-back yet insightful episode of Pitch Putt & Puff, we sit down with Christian Heavens, author of Tour Line, to talk about his personal journey through the game of golf - from grinding out rounds and chasing competition to finding the deeper stories that eventually fueled his passion for writing. Christian opens up about the experiences, relationships, and lessons on the course that shaped both him and his book. We dive into what it takes to balance creativity with competition, how golf journeys evolve over time, and why the stories behind the scorecard are sometimes more powerful than the numbers on it. This conversation is all about the love of the game, the road to authorship, and discovering purpose through the grind - with plenty of laughs and classic Pitch Putt & Puff vibes along the way.

In this message, Pastor Chris Donald teaches how radical love positions believers to live under an open heaven, where God's kingdom becomes visible on earth. Using Acts 3: 3-10 as a foundation, Pastor Chris shows how Peter and John model the flow of heaven through awareness, willingness, and fearlessness. We discover how Jesus lived naturally in the supernatural healing the sick, casting out demons, hearing the Father's voice, and walking in authority and how His radical love on the cross opened the heavens for us to experience the same. This message highlights the sharp contrast between God's kingdom and the world, revealing how love moves us from fear into bold obedience. Pastor Chris calls listeners to give freely what God has given, step out of fear, and become carriers of heaven to the world. Through Scripture, testimony, and practical steps, we are invited into a lifestyle where radical love opens the heavens. The vision of Mercy Culture is to take people from corporate encounters with God to daily personal encounters with God. At Mercy Culture, one of our unique characteristics is that we are a presence driven church. We are not built around any person or ministry. We are built around the presence of God. Today, science has uncovered many wonders about the cosmos and about life within it, but science has also "reduced" most everything in the universe to virtually nothing. In our attempt to understand the universe and ourselves down to a quantified, subatomic constituency we have not only emptied the universe, but also virtually emptied ourselves. C.S. Lewis well understood that scientific quantification of the physical universe and scientific empiricism in general, cannot be the foundational paradigm for how we understand the cosmos and our place within it. Lewis was not criticizing science per se, however. Rather, he was highly critical of the belief that the scientific quantification of reality was the only way to understand reality. In such a universe, the essential facets of what make us human, morality, virtue, truth, beauty, and goodness all become mere emotive sentiments. This week on the Profile we continue our conversation with C.S. Lewis scholar Dr. Michael Ward about Lewis's prescient work The Abolition of Man and how it remains relevant for us today. From michaelward.netMichael Ward is an English literary critic and theologian. He works at the University of Oxford where he is an associate member of the Faculty of Theology and Religion. He is the author of the award-winning and best-selling Planet Narnia: The Seven Heavens in the Imagination of C.S. Lewis (Oxford University Press) and of After Humanity: A Guide to C.S. Lewis's The Abolition of Man (Word on Fire Academic); he is the co-editor of The Cambridge Companion to C.S. Lewis (Cambridge University Press). Though based at Oxford in his native England, Dr Ward is also employed as Professor of Apologetics at Houston Christian University, Texas, teaching one course per semester as part of the online MA program in Christian Apologetics.Free Four-Page Articles From Watchman FellowshipCharles Darwin Carl Sagan's CosmosNaturalism Deconstruction FREE: We are also offering a subscription to our 4-page bimonthly Profiles here: www.watchman.org/Free.PROFILE NOTEBOOK: Order the complete collection of Watchman Fellowship Profiles (over 600 pages -- from Astrology to Zen Buddhism) in either printed or PDF formats here: www.watchman.org/notebook. Read Online“That the dead will rise even Moses made known in the passage about the bush, when he called ‘Lord' the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob; and he is not God of the dead, but of the living, for to him all are alive.” Luke 20:37–38Jesus gives this response to some of the Sadducees who question Him about the resurrection of the dead. The Sadducees did not believe in the resurrection of the body, whereas the Pharisees did. Thus, the Sadducees asked Jesus about the resurrection of the body using an almost unheard of example. They refer to the levirate law found in Deuteronomy 25:5ff which states that if a married man dies before having children, the brother of that man must marry his wife and provide descendants for his brother. Thus, the Sadducees present the scenario where seven brothers die, each one subsequently taking the same wife. The question they posed was, “Now at the resurrection whose wife will that woman be? For all seven had been married to her.” Jesus answers by explaining that marriage is for this life, not the life to come at the resurrection. Therefore, none of the brothers will be married to her when they rise. Some spouses have a hard time with this teaching, in that they love their spouse and desire to remain married in Heaven and at the time of the final resurrection. For those who feel this way, rest assured that the bonds of love we form on earth will remain and even be strengthened in Heaven. And when the end of the world comes and all of our bodies rise and are reunited with our souls, those bonds of love will remain stronger than ever. However, marriage, in the earthly sense, will be no more. It will be replaced by the pure love of the new life to come. This teaching gives us reason to ponder further the beautiful teaching of our Lord about His return in glory and, as we say in the Creed, “the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come.” We profess this belief every Sunday at Mass. But for many, it can be hard to understand. So what do we actually believe? Simply put, we believe that when we die, our body is “laid to rest,” but our soul enters a moment of particular judgment. Those who remain in mortal sin are eternally separated from God. But those who die in a state of grace will eternally live with God. Most people who die will most likely die with some lasting venial sins on their soul. Thus, Purgatory is the grace of final purification that the person's soul encounters upon death. Purgatory is simply the purifying love of God which has the effect of eliminating every last sin and imperfection, and every attachment to sin, so that the purified soul can see God face-to-face in Heaven. But it doesn't stop there. We also believe that at some definitive time in world history, Jesus will return to earth and transform it. This is His Final Judgment. At that time, every body will rise, and we will live eternally as we were intended to live: body and soul united as one. Those souls who are in mortal sin will also be reunited with their bodies, but their body and soul will live separated from God forever. Thankfully, those who are in a state of grace and have endured their final purification will be resurrected and share in the new Heavens and new Earth forever, body and soul as God intended. Reflect, today, upon this glorious teaching of our Lord that you profess faith in every time you pray the Creed. Keeping your eyes on Heaven and, especially, on the final and glorious resurrected state in which you will live in the new Heaven and Earth must become your daily practice. The more we live with this holy expectation, the more we will live here and now as a time of preparation for this final existence. Build treasure now in anticipation of this glorious day and believe that it is the eternity to which you are called. My resurrected Lord, You now reign in Heaven, body and soul, in anticipation of the final and glorious resurrection of all the dead. May I always keep my eyes on this final goal of human life and do all that I can to prepare for this eternity of glory and love. Jesus, I trust in You.Image: James Tissot, Public domain, via Wikimedia CommonsSource of content: catholic-daily-reflections.comCopyright © 2025 My Catholic Life! Inc. All rights reserved. This is message 23 in The Names of God Series Psalm 136:1-26; Jonah 1:9 The world is filled with many voices and many beliefs, but there is only one true and living God, the God of the heavens who created all things and rules over every power seen and unseen. He is not one option among many and He is not limited by culture or circumstance. He is the sovereign Creator whose mercy endures forever and whose authority reaches from the highest heaven to the depths of the sea. Even in a world of spiritual confusion, His works, His power, and HIs presence reveal that He alone is God and He alone is worthy of our trust and worship. When we see all God has created, simply by speaking a word, we recognize his existence, his majesty, and his power. I believe there is a natural curiosity in our hearts that cannot be completely satisfied by anything else but a belief in the existence of God.Main Points:1. Listen again to those powerful words: “The heavens proclaim the glory of God.” David looked to the heavens – not the spiritual heaven where God is enthroned, but the heavens of the blue sky and the night sky – and he clearly saw the glory of God declared.2. I think you have I have experienced what David saw and felt. When you see the serenity of a sunrise or the beauty of a sunset, when we see a sky filled with millions of stars, when we see the radiance of the sun and moon, and when we think of the multitude of galaxies God has created, it all reveals the glory of God.3. The word glory here means that which gives the honor to God - his wisdom, power, skill, faithfulness, benevolence, as seen in the starry worlds above us, and even the silent, movements by day and by night. The idea is, that these convey to the mind a true impression of the greatness and majesty of God. Everyone with physical eyesight can see the glory of God.Today's Scripture Verses:Psalm 19:1-2 - “The heavens proclaim the glory of God. The skies display his craftsmanship. Day after day they continue to speak; night after night they make him known.”Psalm 8:1,3-4 - “O Lord, our Lord, your majestic name fills the earth! Your glory is higher than the heavens. When I look at the night sky and see the work of your fingers—the moon and the stars you set in place—what are mere mortals that you should think about them, human beings that you should care for them?”Romans 1:20 - “For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God.” Quick Links:Donate to support this podcastLeave a review on Apple PodcastsGet a copy of The 5 Minute Discipleship JournalConnect on SocialJoin The 5 Minute Discipleship Facebook Group
Today we're putting The Tonearm's needle on bassist and composer Linda May Han Oh.Linda's a Grammy winner who's recorded with Pat Metheny, Kenny Barron, and Joe Lovano. She was even the model for the bassist character in Pixar's 'Soul.' But it's her own work that brings us together. Her latest album, Strange Heaven, explores why we choose familiar hells over strange heavens—why we stick with what we know even when change might save us. It's a question that cuts through everything from personal relationships to political choices.Linda approaches her albums like journals, each one capturing where she is as an artist and a person. Since becoming a mother, she says her music has become more direct, more distilled—less about ego and more about emotional truth. She's here to discuss creative honesty, her work promoting women composers in jazz through the New Standards project, and why making music with emotional directness matters more than ever.(The musical excerpts heard in the interview are from Linda May Han Oh's album Strange Heaven)–Dig DeeperVisit Linda May Han Oh at lindamayhanoh.com and follow her on Instagram, Facebook, and BandcampPurchase Linda May Han Oh's Strange Heavens from Biophilia Recordings, Bandcamp, or Qobuz and listen on your streaming platform of choiceLinda May Han Oh: Tiny Desk ConcertDig into this episode's complete show notes at podcast.thetonearm.com–• Did you enjoy this episode? 8:03 - How can I help my wife come to faith? / 16:43 - Is it ok to pray the Psalms? / 37:42 - Genesis 11, why is Heavens plural, and who were the pharisees following Jesus around? / 44:25 - Why do some people say Jesus died on a tree? / 47:26 - Comment on marriage and evangelism, and how much young people want answers for the future. / 53:39 - Prayer request after the loss of my wife.
Pastor Kelly Soiles reminds us that prayer isn't a magic formula but communion with God; as we bring our requests with thanksgiving, His peace guards our hearts and minds. She encourages simple, honest prayers that meet us in anxiety and lead us to steady trust.
