Milner Media Partners began all the way back in 1983. Tim Milner and his brother Tommy were attending a Sox game together in Chicago. Before going to the game, they stopped at a bar nearby the stadium. The bar was playing 99.9 FM. The two brothers had been trying to buy their own radio station for awhile and really loved what they heard on 99.9 FM. They went to the payphone at the bar and called the station to ask who the owner was. Tim and Tommy found out the station was in fact for sale and eventually purchased it for a million dollars with the aid of their parents, Gene and Jackie. When the Milners took control of the station, the call letters were changed to WBUS The Bus. It was a rock formatted station at the time. Unfortunately, in 1985, Tommy Milner died in a tragic car accident. After Tommy's death, the format changed to Top 40 and had tremendous success. The station had a very large regional signal that reached not only Kankakee but into Chicago and parts of Indiana. Around 1994, the Milner family decided to sell 99.9 FM. The market was hot and the price was right. In March of 1995, Milner purchased 95.1 FM and that's when WVLI The Valley was born. Tim had what he thought was a brilliant idea for a format: Greatest Hits, Greatest Artists. An oldies station essentially but, with a twist. Many thought that this format would not go over well. However, Tim proved them wrong. Here we are 27 years later and The Valley has become a staple for many in Kankakee County. It's the number one most listened to radio station in our area. Not only that, Milner Media is also the home of two other successful radio stations, River Country 101.7 FM and WFAV 95.1 FM. River Country is also broadcast on 103.7 FM and locally in the Bourbonnais area on 96.1 FM. On a more personal note, I'd like to thank Tim Milner and the entire Milner Media family for everything they have done to support me and Kankakee Podcast. Without the Milner family, I don't think Kankakee Podcast would have happened. They didn't create the podcast directly or anything like that. They did however give me my first job in radio back in 2014 and drilled into my brain just how important it is to make a positive impact on your local community. When I first started working at Milner Media, I didn't think being involved with the community was as important as they made it out to be. However, overtime I began to learn the importance of community. Tim Milner, his family, and my co-workers at Milner Media taught me that. So when I say Kankakee Podcast probably wouldn't have happened without Milner Media, that's what I mean. I have a career and a future that I love thanks to the Milner Media family. I hope they know how grateful I am for that. Learn more about Milner Media's radio stations below: https://wvli927.com/ https://wivr1017.com/ https://wfav951.com/ Much Love, Jake LaMore P.S. Peter Fitch compares the work we do on our souls as we battle forward in life to the renovations we might do in a home that needs to be fixed-up. He thinks that we ought to see our "interior home improvements" with more generosity and patience, and encourages us all to hang in there and keep growing. Today we used videos instead of live music. The songs before the talk are from our on-line Christmas Eve service and feature Madi Smith and Keara Hannan for the first and David Moore for the second. After the talk, there is a song by Peter with help from Rick Coates and then a new song by Cassidy Steeves and Tim Milner. On video and podcast, the talk starts at the 14:30 mark. The post Renovations appeared first on St. Croix Church.

On this week’s episode of The Church Leadership Podcast, Mark and Andy had the privilege to talk with Tim Milner....
Anand Jon Alexander was a rising star in the fashion industry in 2007 when he was arrested and ultimately convicted of one count of rape and many counts of lesser sexual offenses. Although there were no injuries on anyone and he had no history of violence, he was sentenced to 59 years to life in prison. He has spent over 13 years in prison and barely survived a racial hate crime stabbing in 2019. He is suing the State of California for an undisclosed amount. Joining Everyday Injustice is attorney Tim Milner, who has been working on the Commutation case. Attorney Tim Milner explained that he has been a lawyer for 40 years and usually tends to shy away from scandalous sex cases, but this was an exceptional case. “This man is innocent,” he said. “He also had one of the worst trials that I’ve seen.” He noted that he has done at least 80 trials and “this guy did not get a fair shake." Also joining is Amy Povah, from the CAN-DO foundation. Amy Povah herself served nine years in prison before President Bill Clinton commuted her sentence—a 24-year sentence for conspiracy charges in a high profile MDMA (Ecstasy) case dating back to 1989. She now serves as an advocate for mostly federal clemency cases. She was involved in the three most recent commutations by President Trump. “What concerns me about Anand,” she said, is that “clemency is about mercy. So many people receive clemency who are not innocent… The sentence he received is so disproportionate to a normal case with the same allegations. He was convicted on very thin evidence.” One of the incarcerated people on Anand Jon's yard also joins the show to discuss conditions at Donavan under the specter of COVID-19.

I recently realised, to my horror, that pension fund and retirement annuity providers are winning at consumer education. With my first job came an onslaught of pension fund providers vying to communicate with my broke ass. I didn't know how to budget, how to manage my debt, how to navigate myself out of a brown paper bag, but did I know who to call about retirement. Unfortunately, in the process of educating consumers to sell retirement annuities, providers fail to connect retirement savings with other aspects of financial life. The tax implications can be especially worrisome. Understanding taxes in relation to retirement savings is an important piece of the asset allocation puzzle in a broader portfolio. This week we received two excellent questions about retirement savings and taxes. Organisations like Gradidge-Mahura Investments are devoted to helping people figure out how to navigate this tricky terrain as part of a larger wealth management strategy. We asked co-founder Craig Gradidge to answer two questions. Firstly, what is the most tax efficient way to treat your retirement savings when you change jobs? Secondly, what does it mean to get a 27.5% tax rebate on retirement savings? Craig drops knowledge bombs all over this episode. Thanks to Petrus Booysens and Tim Milner for your excellent questions. Remember, The Fat Wallet Show is about learning. If you have a question about money or investments, no matter how simple, send it to us at ask@justonelap.com. Finally, at the beginning of the episode I allow myself a little indulgence by talking about one of my favourite Johannesburg hangouts, The Orbit. You can find out more about that here. Kris
