“I was ridin' shotgun with my hair undone,” and the rest is history. This week, we do a full line-by-line deep dive into a classic, “Our Song” (Taylor Swift, 2006). Join us as we discuss the self-referential recursion (she wrote a song about their song, and that song is their song) and the sounds and silences Taylor chose to define a teenage romance. This is Taylor before anyone believed in her, holding the pen, writing herself into her debut album. For more on "Our Song" in the context of Taylor's full debut album, become a paid subscriber at aptaylorswift.substack.com/subscribe — we go deep on the album in our After School series.
Kelsi and Trey dive deep into Curry Barker's Obsession, one of the most exciting original horror films we've seen in years. We break down why the movie feels like evil 500 Days of Summer meets Hereditary, how it turns modern dating anxieties, male entitlement, and the fantasy of “the one” into a supernatural nightmare, and why Inde Navarrette's performance is the emotional and horrifying center of the film. We also discuss the movie as a Gen Z relationship horror classic, a darkly funny cautionary tale, and ultimately a tragedy about agency and possession. This week on Extra Credit: The Intern Files, Managing Intern Amy takes Filmlosophers host Eddie on a spiritual, cinematic, and slightly unhinged journey into the world of Mother Mary, the latest A24 release from director David Lowery. As the crew unpacks the film's layered themes, the conversation turns surprisingly theological. From questions of faith and identity to celebrity worship and personal belief systems, the interns explore how Mother Mary blurs the line between symbolism and sincerity. Is the film a meditation on devotion? A critique of modern sainthood? Or something far stranger hiding beneath the glitter and stage lights? Meanwhile, Eddie is fighting for his life as the interns continue recording in what can only be described as an increasingly cursed recording setup. Between existential debates and absolute production chaos, this may be the most spiritually enlightening episode of Extra Credit yet. Or at the very least, the loudest.

Drawing on 20 years of experience working behind the scenes with thousands of gyms, he notes most owners have tried referrals, reactivation, promotions, offers, and ads, but fail to execute consistently. He compares marketing to client training: results compound when actions are repeated and refined through practice. He outlines key monthly "boxes" to check—paid traffic, referrals, reactivation, organic awareness, reviews, social posting, strong follow-up, and long-term lead nurturing—so leads can convert later and create a steady flywheel of client growth. He offers to help build a monthly marketing plan via email at pat@patrigsby.com. 00:00 Why Marketing Feels Random 00:32 Most Gyms Do Tactics Sporadically 02:22 Consistency Beats Occasional Effort 03:20 Monthly Marketing Boxes to Check 04:18 Compounding Leads and Flywheel 05:09 Build the Monthly Plan

He outlines common gaps like poor follow-up, weak conversion processes, and low retention, arguing that adding more leads to a broken system only increases cost per client and wastes opportunity. Using a pipeline framework (leads → consult/trial/assessment → new members → retention), he illustrates with numbers how improving follow-up, conversion rate, and retention can multiply revenue from the same 40 monthly leads without generating any additional leads. He invites gym owners to email him to diagnose their pipeline and identify missed opportunities to double or triple lead value. 00:00 Leads Aren't the Issue 00:32 Broken Systems Waste Leads 01:13 Pipeline View of Growth 01:54 Example With Weak Follow Up 03:02 Same Leads Better Results 03:57 Wrap Up and Next Steps
