Tara & Christine defend ska punk in this episode from two different sides of the rudegirl camp. We discuss our introduction to ska, the first time we ever saw a ska band live, & what it was like growing up ska after the 90s. You'll hear us talking a bit about the 2000s ska scene & some of the challenges for the community. We then go into some shout-outs for current bands & new music being released by some old favorites. Our theme song “Ruder Than You” was provided by The Scotch Bonnets (http://www.thescotchbonnets.com) & our featured music for this episode was provided by Bim Skala Bim (http://www.bimska.com/). --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/checkeredcast/message

In this episode of Good Nerd Bad Nerd I talk with director Taylor Morden about his latest project "Pick it Up - Ska in the 90's". Ska is a genre of music that nearly everyone has heard but almost no one can define. Taylor talks with us about the genre, his connection to it, and why this music is so great.

This week on the show Kyle and Matthew are joined by Cecilia Gardner and her boyfriend Steven Hanus for a whirlwind adventure around the globe. Besides being an amazing photographer/musician/human Cecilia has traveled here and abroad and vlogged the highlights of her journey. The group talk about some of their favorite places to travel. There's a pretty fun tangent about sky diving. Also, things get heated when discussing theme parks with the best roller coasters. This episode is sheer delight and hopefully we give you the itch to pack a bag and head out for parts unknown. The first ReadJunk Podcast episode of 2019 is with filmmaker Taylor Morden, who is releasing two documentaries, Pick it Up: Ska in the 90s and The Last Blockbuster. Both movies sounds awesome and I can't wait to see them! I talk to Taylor over Skype about both documentaries and filming process, licensing songs, is the movie mainly focusing on West Coast bands or East Coast bands as well, reason why some ska bands made it into the mainstream and others didn't, Taylor briefly talks about touring in Japan, then we talk about Blockbuster, video stores in general and some techniques people used to get VHS/DVDs from the video store. It's a good talk so have a listen!
