From fatphobia to racism to ageism and ableism, Kennedy challenges the norms around love, desirability, and who gets to be the “main character.” This one's for anyone who's ever felt left out of the story — and is ready to take the pen back. Bestselling romance author Kennedy Ryan (Before I Let Go, Reel) sits down with Shan to talk about what happens when women stop shrinking themselves to be chosen. From rewriting the stories we've inherited about sex, love, and partnership — to questioning why women with standards get labeled as “too much” Kennedy opens up about what radical self-worth actually looks like, and why romance should always center women's pleasure. This episode is a love letter to anyone who's ever been made to feel like they're asking for too much. Kennedy shares her love story of being married to Sam for over 20 years while raising their autistic son. This episode is sponsored by Lovers by Shan. Reel Faith What happens when life takes a turn you never expected? In this powerful message, Pastor Steve Garcia opens our Reel Faith summer series with the critically acclaimed film Sound of Metal—a raw story about identity, loss, and the painful beauty of surrender. As Ruben, a heavy-metal drummer, loses his hearing, he's forced to confront the truth that sometimes the life we planned isn't the life God intends. Pastor Steve pairs Ruben's journey with the biblical story of Saul, showing how God uses detours not to destroy us—but to redefine us.

Weight Story – Benton, ArkansasHaley Sipes, a 30-year-old from Benton, Kentucky, has inspired 90,000 Instagram followers as @movewithhaley, sharing her incredible journey of losing 100 pounds with WeightWatchers while championing body positivity. Growing up in Benton's close-knit community, Haley weighed 250 pounds in 2021, battling low self-esteem and health issues from years of emotional eating. A turning point came during a family barbecue at Hurricane Lake, where she felt out of breath and disconnected, sparking her commitment to health—not to conform to societal standards, but to embrace her body's potential.Haley joined WeightWatchers, drawn to its science-backed, points-based system that allowed her to enjoy Southern favorites like lighter chicken-fried steak or collard greens while staying in a calorie deficit. She tracked Points via the WeightWatchers app, sharing recipes for dishes like shrimp po'boys and berry smoothies in vibrant Reels, resonating with her Arkansas followers. Her “move with Haley” philosophy blended daily 12,000-step walks along Benton's Saline River trails with at-home strength workouts and yoga, posted as beginner-friendly routines. Unlike restrictive diets, WeightWatchers' flexibility helped her avoid guilt, aligning with body positivity principles from influencers like Megan Crabbe. What sets @movewithhaley apart is her focus on self-love. Her posts, captioned with gems like “My body is my home, and I'm learning to love it,” share raw moments—stretch marks, loose skin, and emotional days—celebrating progress over perfection. These echo the authenticity of Jessica Battle, who lost 115 pounds and embraced her journey's “downs”. Haley's body-positive message, inspired by accounts like @join_jessica_xo, earned thousands of comments like, “You make me feel seen!” By mid-2024, she reached 150 pounds, feeling strong and vibrant. In June 2025, Haley married her partner, Ethan, at a rustic Benton venue, Carter Farms, with mason jar decor and a sunset backdrop, reflecting Arkansas's cozy wedding vibe. Her journey to 100 pounds down wasn't about fitting into a dress but feeling confident in her skin, glowing in a flowy gown. She shared her wedding prep in a viral Reel (500,000 views), highlighting WeightWatchers' mindfulness tools to manage stress and her workouts with Ethan, inspired by Haley Smith's gym dates with her husband. Followers raved, “Your strength is everything!”Haley's @movewithhaley now hosts “Benton Body Love Challenges,” blending WeightWatchers' community spirit with walks and self-care tips, encouraging followers to embrace their bodies at every stage. How do you build a globally scaled seafood company rooted in ancient Japanese techniques, humane animal treatment, and radical transparency – all before the age of 26? Meet Saif Khawaja, the founder and CEO of Seremoni, a startup that's reinventing the seafood industry from the ground up. Launched in 2024, Seremoni is a vertically integrated company setting a new benchmark for quality and ethics in seafood by merging time-honored Japanese craft with cutting-edge technology. To bring his vision to life, Saif assembled a dream team: engineers from SpaceX, veterans from premium seafood brands, and small-scale fishermen from across the globe. His mission? To build a new kind of supply chain – one powered by empathy, precision engineering, and economic equity – and to make Michelin-quality seafood accessible to everyone. In this episode, Saif shares how a Wharton thesis and a philosophical reckoning ignited a radical idea. He walks us through the early days of grit and experimentation, the challenges of leading teams twice his age, and why he believes world-changing companies are often born from deep moral conviction, not spreadsheets. Show notes: 0:25: Saif Khawaja, Founder & CEO, Seremoni – Saif opens up about how reading Peter Singer's essay “If Fish Could Scream” profoundly impacted him and inspired the development of Seremoni and how his hands-on experience as a commercial fisherman exposed him to artisanal methods and the biology of how stress affects flavor and decomposition in fish. He talks about how the company's tools and robotics scale ikejime techniques in the U.S., pursuing vertical integration to ensure quality and pay fishermen more fairly, and how he convinced investors, chefs and retailers to buy into his vision. Saif also discusses his management of a growing team of over 30 people, and how he is building a values-driven movement that is guided by a strong moral compass. In today's episode we are looking at the work of two directors named Anderson, although they're not related to one another. We begin with Paul Thomas Anderson's MAGNOLIA, from 1999. This is a film that has the complexity of a Robert Altman film, in that we have many parallel stories in a few different spaces, and they do manage to bump into one another from time to time. PT Anderson sets us up for this in the opening scenes of the film, and it's a heckuva ride from one end to the other. Stay tuned for Part 2, when we look at a film by Wes Anderson.
In Part Two of our episode, which isn't quite as packed as Part 1 (largely because it's a shorter, more straightforward story), we look at Wes Anderson's THE ROYAL TENENBAUMS, starring Gene Hackman, Anjelica Huston and a half-dozen or so other people as their adult children and in-laws. At the start of the film, the family isn't hanging together very well, until a little bit of deceit brings them closer. Then it separates them again. Then...well, just tune in. COMING ATTRACTIONS: In Episode 87 we're keeping our focus on directors (heh), with two films that are semi-autobiographical in nature. We'll begin with MEAN STREETS (1973), directed by Martin Scorsese, and finish with DINER (1982), directed by Barry Levenson.
