Social media has made it easy for us to not only express ourselves and connect with each other, it's also helped businesses and brands reach success by going viral. Hi TikTok! But what happens when our mental health suffers, or we can't keep up with algorithm changes, or we just plain hate the platforms we're on? We'd rather poke our eyeballs out than make another Reel pointing to bubbles, yet we get on and draft a video week after week. How can we get off this hamster wheel, or better yet, find alternative solutions to these problems? In this episode, Chelsea talks to Johanna Renoth, a serial entrepreneur and business advisor, who invites entrepreneurs to reflect on their relationship with social media and encourages them to make choices for not only the betterment of their health but for their business. On this week's episode, Chelsea sits down with Johanna to discuss: How Johanna's brands Bye Social Media and Log Off Live More developed. The challenges and downsides of fame and celebrity culture. Why is virality so exciting? The impact of social media on our mental health and well-being. What kind of media are you consuming on a daily basis? How to use social media to help your business without burning yourself out. Instant gratification on social media and how distraction affects business owners. The importance of having a marketing strategy . “You're paying for social media with your mental health, with your ability to focus, with your sanity, with the quality of your sleep, with also the hours and energy you invest that you could probably invest…in other sectors of your business. And I'm not here to tell anyone who's listening to this go off socials entirely, but just reflect: to what extent do I really need to be on there?” - Johanna Renoth CONNECT WITH JOHANNA: byesocialmedia.com logofflivemore.com johannarenoth.com Johanna's Podcast CONNECT WITH CHELSEA: Website: www.chelseariffe.com Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/chelseariffe/ 1:1 Coaching Open for 2 more spots until 2023 - apply right here **NEW** Leave a voice note to the pod! From a musical standpoint, there's always a time you can point to and see--in retrospect--that things were about to change in a big way. In this episode we look at a pair of films that take place right before a couple of upheavals in the music industry. And interestingly enough, they take place only a couple of years apart. In this part of the episode, we're looking at Honeydripper, the 2007 film written and directed by John Sayles, and starring Danny Glover as a southern bar owner with a nebulous past who's trying to save his business. He keeps taking advice from a mysterious figure in the town, and finds himself at the cusp of the Next Big Trend, musically. Then stick around for part 2, when we take a look at the period of time immediately before Bob Dylan broke on to the folk scene. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/wordsandmovies/support
In this half of the episode we take a look at Inside Llewyn Davis, written and directed by the Coen Brothers. In this case we have a (probably circular) story that takes place shortly before Bob Dylan first gained notoriety in the Greenwich Village area. Llewyn (Oscar Isaac) was once half of a folk duo, but now he's striking out on his own, for reasons which become clear as the film progresses. It's a dark comedy with a lot of interesting coincidences, as Coen Brothers films are wont to be. But check it out; you won't be disappointed. COMING ATTRACTIONS: Episode 46 is the second of our three "Lost Episodes"; that is, they're episodes that we recorded that somehow disappeared from the hard drive. This one focuses on a pair of musical films, both from 1986, in which David Bowie plays a villainous role: first up is Absolute Beginners, directed by Julien Temple. Then in Part 2 we take you into the Labyrinth, directed by Jim Henson. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/wordsandmovies/support
This week on Catfish Weekly Austin Brown owner of the popular YouTube channel, Chasing Moby Dick will be the our guest. Here is a little information about Austin. I am 27 years old and was born and raised in the Oklahoma City area. I work as a Trainer in an oil and gas equipment manufacturing company. I am happily married to my wife Lauren. Growing up I loved to play and watch sports and play guitar. I didn't really grow up fishing. I fished a handful of times with my Dad growing up but I can barely recall those times. I really started to fish about 9 years ago when I was 18 years old. Some friends invited me to fish this little reservoir in the country. We were catching huge Bullheads. Back then I thought a catfish was just a catfish. I didn't know there were different species. We fished that little no name lake hard that summer. At some point I learned there were different types of catfish. The next summer a friend taught me and some others how to use punch bait to catch Channel Catfish in creeks. From there, I was hooked. I learned that in these same creeks there were big catfish. I knew they were there but had trouble giving up the punch bait because with punch bait I always knew I'd get bites. I finally tried some cut bait and the first fish I hooked was a Channel Catfish bigger than any fish I'd ever caught on punch bait. It weighed probably 4 pounds. I fished hard again that year. Sometime in that period my friends dad took me on a trip to the Arkansas River navigation channel. We didn't catch a lot, but in that trip the explorer in me was truly born. After that I began to venture out all over the state, often driving nearly 3 hours just to fish. Sometime in there I noticed that I caught more catfish at night and that it's a lot to drive 3 hours just to fish for the day. So I started camping and catfishing. I learned a long time ago that most of the best fish live in very specific areas. I own different kinds of boats so I can get to nearly all of them. In 2020 I started filming for my Youtube channel, Chasing Moby Dick. I filmed for an entire year before I put one video out so I would always have a stockpile of videos so I could reliably release them every single week. Fishing is what I love to do and I will do what it takes to catch them whether it be camping on a deep hole in 10 degree weather with snow on the ground or dragging a canoe thru the muck in 100 degree heat. I love the fish, the wildlife in water and on land, and the adventure. Join Chad, Josh and Lyle as they visit with Austin and get your questions ready if you have them.
