In today's episode Nicky P and Lizzie sit down with Nicky's good friend and bandmate Brian Pritchard and talk about becoming an entrepreneur. Brian gives us the story on how he moved from wage slave to entrepreneur while telling us about the newest project hes fallen into. Brian quite literally turned his life's passion of film tourism into a job with an up and coming app. Lizzie and I are always in aww when anyone can make this transition but are even more amazed when a parent can make it. In today's episode Nicky P and Lizzie discuss what Nicky is thinking of as The Great Testosterone Debacle. While media seems to be ramping up the sexuality, the younger generations seem less interested. Is the pervasive and rapid decline of testosterone the culprit? We're just a weird midwest husband and wife, how the hell should we know? Still, we googled stuff and think you should be aware any of your hormone levels being low an really damage your immune system and I heard we're in the midst of a pandemic. In today's episode Nicky P and Eric review Immolation, episode six of season three of the expanse. Most of the episode is Nicky P geeking out about how in love with a single scene he is. He dares say it’s likely the greatest scene in a sci-fi film ever. If you’ve watched the show it’s unlikely you don’t immediately know which scene is being discussed, which makes Nicky skeptical of Eric having actually watched the episode. Either way Prax, Amos & Dr Strickland create a moment that solidifies who each character is at their core. To really hear what’s up though you have to listen, or watch for yourself. Wikipedia Synopsis Believing Holden's group to be Martian Marines, Mao and Strickland prepare to use the children as hostages. The boy hybrid attacks Bobbie. A missile hits and infects the Agatha King. Holden captures Mao. Amos kills Strickland. An infected Cotyar destroys the Agatha King to stop the protomolecule. Naomi tells Johnson about the hybrid missiles, and he destroys them. On Earth, Anna exposes Errinwright who admits his treason. Esteban orders Errinwright's arrest. Mao is brought to Avasarala as a prisoner, Bobbie recovers with Alex, Prax spends time with Mei, and Holden reunites with Naomi. A large protomolecule structure takes off from the surface of Venus. In today's episode Nicky P and Lizzie spend a few minutes addressing their absence.
In today's episode Nicky P and Lizzie ask each other the question we are all asking. Are you over 2020? It often feels like we want to ask 2020 that same question. Has it had its fill torment? Is it gonna move on in January? I suppose the answer isn't terribly relevant because no matter what it throws at us we owe it to Erma to take it head on and reach the next little island of accomplishment for her. As we talk through our goals for 2021 and review our performance in 2020 we see piles of progress (more like filled in holes) we have to take stock of what was good decisions paying off or luck. As we've been harping on understanding what we can take credit for in our lives will serve us better than self esteem ever could. Personally I think peace is all about keeping your outer and inner perceptions congruous or at least explainable. In today's episode Nicky P and Lizzie are gonna ruffle some feathers with their review of Elf. The Will Farrell comedy is revered as a modern holiday classic but does it deserve the acclaim? Does crying immediately make the movie good? Is Zooey Deschanel a natural brunette? Who is better looking, her or her sister? We explore these questions and more in today's episode. Beverages For Round The Fireplace Nicky P has decided refreshing was what he needed for today's beverage and the Cape May Cranberry Mule fits the bill with a recipe from townandcountrymag.com featuring: vodka, muddled fresh cranberries, ginger beer, lime & ice. Lizzie has found a delicious liquid version of her favorite holiday candy. The Turkish Delight Cocktail made from a delicious.com recipe features: rose petal infused gin, creme de cacao, lemon juice, vanilla syrup, and egg white. It's a little too much rose petals and baking ingredients for me but its perfect for Lizzie. Christmas Sweater Fever Nicky P has put laziness ahead of creativity today and has shown up in an advent sweater. You've never heard of an advent sweater? It's the only article of clothing that its appropriate to wear for 25 days in a row. Use your imagination and try not to imagine the smell. For today's fashion choice Lizzie has swapped one nerd franchise for another and put aside the modern sins made by certain actors in an effort to rep one of her all time favorite shows. Her "Make It Snow" sweater featuring Captain Picard brings her all kinds of warm feelings and certainly no judgmental feelings about how dirty the Picard show did fans. In today's episode Nicky P and Lizzie are here to review the uber-British animated comedy Arthur Christmas. The animated romp follows a Claus family trying to navigate the changing of the guard from the old Santa to the new Santa with an ensemble cast featuring some serious heavyweights. Does this list of A class character actors pull it's weight? Is the movie everything it's cracked up to be? Have a listen and find out what we think anyway. Beverages For Round The Fireplace Nicky P is yet again enjoying a wintery version of an iced favorite with a Salted Caramel White Russian with a recipe borrowed from inspiredbycharm.com featuring: Salted Caramel Kaluha, Salted Caramel Vodka, Half & Half & Caramel sauce to garnish. Lizzie on the other hand has opted to drink like my grandmother with a simple yet aromatic Bourbon Cocktail from biscuitsandburlap.com featuring: bourbon, honey, sage and orange for garnish. In today's episode Nicky P and Lizzie find themselves at odds once again over the review of Netflix's Klaus. Nick was an absolute tearful mess and Lizzie was in a rage over political propaganda stuffed into the movie. Even Jason Schwartzman wasn't enough to get her into this movie featuring the most militarized mail service you have ever seen, The movie centers around a town buried in the snow with a major Hatfields & McCoys thing going on and a dickhead with an impossible mission. Nicky P is too flustered to even type this properly so just go and enjoy this fantastic tale of terrible people becoming good. Beverages For Round The Fireplace Nicky P is enjoying a White Christmas Margarita today care of a recipe found over at delish.com featuring unsweetened coconut milk, silver tequila, triple sec, lime juice & ice. Its a little island flavor for this very northern film. Lizzie has shown up today with a Peppermint White Russian gleaned from theforkedspoon.com's recipe featuring Kahlúa, Peppermint Schnapps and, Vodka and pairs quite well with her outfit today. Christmas Sweater Fever Nicky P is looking sharp in his horror greats ugly sweater featuring Jason Voorhees, Freddie Kreuger, Chucky and Michael Myers and who doesn't need a lil slasher in their holiday. In today's episode Nicky P and Lizzie are here to review Christmas Snow, a rare and beloved holiday favorite from Lizzie's youth. While the movie triggers her nostalgia drip left and right, Nicky P is having a much different time. For him, the movie is a chaotic mess were no one's motivations make any sense, the characters are all pretty crappy people and it might as well have been a one man show. Even Mona from Who's the boss and a baby Mellissa Joan Hart can't save this thing. Still that under an hour run-time is pretty sweet all things considered. Better us than you I guess. Beverages For Round The Fireplace Nicky P has discovered perhaps his new favorite beverage in today's episode. He is practically twitching as he enjoys his Cranberry Mimosa's that he was inspired to by Delish.com. A simple affair with cranberry juice and champagne, why had this not occured to him sooner. Lizzie on the other hand has found a far different flavor to enjoy with her Chata Hot Chocolate care of thecookinchicks.com. And it's just one ingredient more complicated than Nicky P's with Cocoa, milk and Rumchata. So if fruity isnt your thing, maybe cocoa is. Christmas Sweater Fever Nicky P has decided today to run wild with Lizzies recurring nerd theme and has upped the ante himself in a chainmail vest with fur liner. Quite comfortable next to the fire or swinging a magic Battle Axe Of Dwarven Rage with a plus 5 modifier...sorry nerd life. Lizzie has decided to bring back even more of her LOTR gear today with a fantastic ugly sweater telling the story of taking the ring to Mordor. I especially like the panel on Mount Doom. In today's episode Nicky P and Lizzie discuss being assertive in the workplace. Nicky P regales us with some anecdotes about his work life that will hopefully empower our listeners who don't work for themselves to think of their day job in a new light. Some hard honesty will go a long way in our quests to elevate our lives and families lots. In today's episode Nicky P and The Rebel With A Cause review Triple Point, episode five of season three of The Expanse. Today's episode was a real wild and wooly one. Souther attempts a mutiny against Admiral Nguyen and loses but ends up sparking a UNN internal battle as ships defect against the admiral. The Martians watch as their enemy attacks itself and decides the Errinwright video is the real deal. Naomi goes and sets herself against the Roci crew admitting she gave Fred Johnson a protomolecule sample. And if that wasn't enough Mao proves he's only part human by ordering Mei be infected for testing. In the end will she be saved or is it too late? Wikipedia Synopsis The Martian marines pass the Errinwright recording along to the captain of the Martian Hammurabi. Avasarala admits Earth needs a protomolecule sample but wants to unite humanity and needs Holden's help to end the war. Naomi admits she gave the protomolecule sample to The Belt. At the lab on Io, the boy tells Mao that the work on Venus is almost complete. Mao orders the next subject, Mei, to be infected. Admiral Nguyen orders Mao to turn over control of the protomolecule monsters to him. Souther and his crew attempt mutiny, announcing to both Earth and Mars that they want to stand down, but Nguyen kills Souther and those loyal to him. The UNN ships begin firing on one another. In today's episode Nicky P and Lizzie review A Goof Troop Christmas, otherwise known as Have Yourself A Goofy Little Christmas. The special was a joyous romp back into our childhoods for both Lizzie and Nicky P. Why did this show not run forever? Was it the odd feelings young boys were developing toward half dog ladies inspired by Peg? Wait, was that just Nicky? That math checks out, a weird horny adult was probably a weird horny youth. Lizzie on the other hand was enamored with the silly name changes like Aspirin instead of Aspen. All in all the special has a thrilling sled chase an evil "Dr Claw" bear and arson on a massive scale, what more could you want. Togetherness? Well there's that too. Beverages For Round The Fireplace Nicky P is indulging in Cinnamon Camdy Apple Shots with a recipe found on webstaurantstore.com featuring: sour apple schnappes, cinnamon whiskey and a little red food coloring to help get those fun layers. Lizzie is making a valiant attempt at a sugar coma with a homemade Buckeye Eggnog from inkatrinaskitchen.com. No alcohol necessary if you've ever seen what sugar does to her, this will put her somewhere out by Mars. Christmas Sweater Fever Nicky P decided to try and get lizzie nostalgic and has brought back one of the argyle sweater vests that were such a staple of his wardrobe when they first met. The kilt was for comedies sake in case nostalgia failed. Where did it land? Find out! In today's episode Nicky P and Lizzie review To Grandmother's House We Go, an Olsen twins Christmas vehicle from our childhood. It's amazing what we managed to edit out of this 1992 film in our memories. The most notable omission is definitely how bad the film truly is. A close second is just how bitchy the Olsen twins were as children. The only saving grace for the movie was how hard they tried to squeeze in all those catchphrases we remember fondly. It almost helps you get over the hilarious casual racism of the 90's like where they throw fried chicken bones into the black sax players case while he busks and somehow "there's still some meat on there" makes it OK. It's our gift to you that we sat through this so you don't have to. Merry Christmas. Beverages For Round The Fireplace Nicky P is indulging in a Boozy Grinch Punch with a recipe copped from delish.com featuring: Lemon Lime Kool-Aid, ice, lemon-lime soda, pineapple juice, vodka, ginger ale, with lime wedges and red sanding sugar for rimming. Nicks ecto-cooler concept is ;ikely superior but harder to find the ingredients for. Lizzie is drinking a Rosemary Gin Gimlet from Biscuits & Booze featuring: Gin, lime Juice, Pomegranate Arils, Simple Syrup and rosemary sprigs. Basically, it's a G&T with extra herbal flavor. Christmas Sweater Fever Nicky P was feeling like drawing some laughs after last weeks episode with a scantily clad Lizzie so he wore a hula skirt for his sweater this week. Lizzie had an inkling he might try this (because marriage, that's why) so she decidded to show up wrapped in the pine garland we put on the bannister. In today's episode Nicky P and Lizzie review For Whom The Sleighbell Tolls, episode eight from season six of American Dad. The show is one of Nicky's favorites and despite the rampant violence even managed to get a few chuckles out of Lizzie. I'm always amazed when shows centered around ensemble casts of terrible people still manage to put out episodes with genuine heart. This is one of those episodes. In the fields of maimed elven soldiers and piles of gored reindeer, the Smith family leans into family and survives Santa's waves of attacks. For this year anyway. In today's episode Nicky P and Eric review Reload, episode four of season three of the expanse. In the episode the crew of the Roci faces a mutiny in response for a good deed, We see Prax continue on down his slow road into Amosville. Erriwright comes closer to his come-upance and Mao waffles yet again on the shutdown of the research project on Io. Season three just continues to build on the character, Amos and frankly stacks so much of the comic relief on him. "Did I miss it?" Another killer episode in the books is what that sounds like. Wikipedia Synopsis Drummer retrieves the Nauvoo. Esteban gives Anna's speech but it is revised by Errinwright to further justify destroying Mars before dealing with Venus. Anna is disgusted and prepares to leave. The crew is very low on fuel and prepares to take some from a defeated Martian ship, but find three surviving Martian Marines. Avasarala convinces Holden to send the recording of Errinwright's treason to Anna so she can get through to Esteban; shocking her just as she is about to depart. The three Martians are disgusted they are on a stolen Martian war ship, preparing to capture it by beating Alex and taking him and Naomi hostage. Bobbie is able to talk them down. Holden has the Martian's ship repaired so they can rejoin their fleet, giving them a copy of the Errinwright recording to pass onto their captain, whom Avasarala wants to pass it to the Agatha King. In today's episode Nicky P and Eric review Assured Destruction, episode three of season three of The Expanse. It is abundantly clear, three episodes in, that season three refuses to pull off the gas. There is almost a nonsensical amount of material in this single episode. Errinwright convinces Esteban to start a pre-emptive war with Mars and end it to unite humanity against whatever unknown threat is growing in the storms of Venus. This alone could be an entire episode but nay nay. Instead we get Cotyar on the Agatha King as prisoner at the same time UNN Admiral Nguyen has arrived to strut around and swing his dick in his former superiors face. Captain Souther isn’t buying everything he is told and manages to extract some information from Cotyar before Nguyen and his men take complete control of the ship. Head spinning yet? We haven’t even got to IO where Mao is ready to pull the plug on the Protomolecule project before Dr Strickland convinced him there’s reason to continue. Oh and Alex gets a message from his family and some closure while Naomi and Avasarala affirm they’re never gonna get along. Whew. I think that’s everything. Some shows entire seasons don’t cover this much ground. Wikipedia Synopsis Errinwright pushes a preemptive strike against Mars' long-range capabilities. Anna tells Esteban to take as few lives as possible so he refuses. Errinwright tells Esteban he must end this war to unite humanity against whatever comes from Venus, so Esteban has Earth launch an attack. A malfunction allows one Martian missile to kill two million people in South America, which Errinwright reveals to Anna. Cotyar and Theo's signal reaches the UNN ship Agatha King. Cotyar kills Theo to maintain the story of Avasarala's death. UNN Admiral Nguyen believes Avasarala to be alive and a traitor, and prepares to charge Cotyar with treason. Captain Souther of the Agatha King believes Cotyar's story about Errinwright, but Nguyen takes command and orders the ship to Io. Mao begins to bond with Mei. He demands the project be shut down when an infected child begins dying. Avasarala recovers and tells the crew of Mao and Bobbie's role on Ganymede. Holden still doesn't want to get involved with the war. Alex gets a message from his family that they don't need him anymore. Avasarala is disgusted Naomi gave the protomolecule to Fred Johnson. In today's episode Nicky P and Lizzie review Phineas & Ferb's Christmas vacation, episode twenty one of season two We love this series. It is super-positive and the characters believe they can do anything if they work at it. You've got to wonder, though: What do the kids that can build anything, do for Christmas? A musical of course; in which everybody gets their Christmas Wish. It’s a fun watch. Beverages For Round The Fireplace Nicky P has brought a seasonal favorite to this season's final Year-Round Tree installment. All year long he waits for a McDonalds Eggnog milkshake. This particular shake was saved in the fridge for just this occasion. Lizzie has invented a little thing she calls the Elfinator which consists of whiskey, espresso, cocoa and Kahlua. Ask her for the ratios I guess. Christmas Sweater Fever Nicky P has chosen a sweater with bobbles (knitted bumps) that spell out "Christmas," "Hanukkah," "Kwanzaa," and "Yule" for today's session. Is it as inventive as other outfits? No, but sometimes comfort wins. Lizzie is wearing an adorable sweater with three stuffed cats peeking out of stockings on the front. In today's episode Nicky P and Eric discuss Fight Or Flight, episode One of season Three of the expanse with guest Lizzie of the Peace Freqs Podcast. The episode opens with the crew of the Roci cleaning the remains of protomolecule off the ship. The space age technology they use, I wish I had, but it isn’t perfect and the camera leaves a hint of an open thread left to gestate. With the ship cleaned repairs are undertaken and a new name, the Pinus Contorta, is assumed to wait out the escalation of tensions between Earth and Mars as inconspicuously as possible. Tensions however give way to war as Errinwright uses the pretense of Mars blaming Earth for the assassination of defense minister Korshunov. You might remember him as the guy Errinwright poisoned. Some people just love treachery. Did you forget about Venus? Neither did anyone on the show. It’s just hovering in the background as an unknown. Nobody could possibly use that to pump up fear and help push the war drums could they? Back on the Roci, Naomi is having a rough go of it. The crew feels betrayed at her both saving a sample of the protomolecule and giving it to Fred Johnson behind their backs. She tries to convince them that Tycho Station is their best option to save themselves but is met with cold dismissal as her political capital is fully depleted for the first time in the show. Holden, however, has woken from his Captain Ahab phase and is beginning to carry the weight of the guilt he has for using Prax to hunt the protomolecule. He vows that from now on finding Mei is top priority and suggests that they head toward a faint protomolecule signal on IO. Meanwhile at Tycho Station Fred Johnson is already working to turn his newfound bargaining position into a play for the United Belt he so desires. He tries to bring in Anderson Dawes and the scientist he pilfered from Johnson earlier to work together against their common enemies. Johnson also begins work on the retrieval of the Nauvoo, which he intends on turning into the the flagship of a belter navy. In one more great act of Treachery Errinwright uses the info Avasarala had on him to frame her for what happened on Eros. He passes her off as the one working with Mao, with her own intel as her undoing. In an effort to further bury the evidence he fires missiles at Mao’s ship where she was trying to bring him in from the cold to kill her. Mao’s people make it off the ship leaving Bobbie, Avasarala, Cotyar and some personel to die on the yacht. Bobbie manages to convince one of these employees, Theo, to help them get Errinwright‘s admission of guilt off the ship’s system before it’s blown to bits. Fight or Flight begins the season that gets the show cancelled from SyFy. It’s also the season that solidifies a core audience that with a twitter campaign convinced Jeff Bezos to pick up the property for Amazon Prime Video. We are all glad for that. In today's episode Nicky P and Eric discuss episode 13 of season 2 of the expanse. In the episode Holden gets his legs crushed attempting to fight the stowaway protomolecule monster. Pinned to a wall Holden watches as the monster begins tearing its way to the reactor core of the Roci. The team begins plans to eject the monster and accept Holden's death as collateral damage but Prax sweeps in with a superior idea at the last minute. Meanwhile Cotyar Bobbie and Avasarala are in a shootout with Mao's men and the Arborghast begins a descent to see whats going on down on venus. There is little good news here but the show ends showing us a still living Dr Strickland and Mei. Somehow we have more open threads than we started with...oh yeah Naomi gave Fred Johnson the protomolecule...so there's that...
