Welcome to Bone Throwers Theater! We are a RPG actual play podcast. We play both long-term campaigns and one-shot sessions. Our current main campaign is called Elements of War. It uses the OpenD6 Adventure System from West End Games. It is set in a world built using the game, Microscope. The chara…
In this episode we fast forward about a week as preparations are made to leave the Animal Preserve... also, some tempers need to cool. We'll see if that actually happens, as a shoe that has been waiting to drop since midway through season 2, finally falls and will definitely change things going forward. System: OpenD6 Adventure, from West End Games CAST: Jordan — The Game Master Aaron — Sam Feluge Ellie — Archi Jeff — Jerr Lan Jeremy — Julian Illix Johnny — Chine North Music in the background from Fesliyan Studios, Purple Planet Music, and other sources
In true SG-1 fashion, the action climaxes with a showdown at the gate while the group tries to escape. However, the effort seems to be more difficult than expected as one group member seems to be working against them. Comically, the dice rolls are extremely fitting for the type of characters that were doing battle. Sometime the dice write a good story! Enjoy! While the group searches for Julian, who is doing his best to remain hidden, a much sought after truth comes to light. Finally, a bit of positive news. But with that, some negative memories do resurface. It appears that there are members of that group that are more connected than originally thought. System: OpenD6 Adventure, from West End Games CAST: Jordan — The Game Master Aaron — Sam Feluge Ellie — Archi Jeff — Jerr Lan Jeremy — Julian Illix Johnny — Chine North Music in the background from Fesliyan Studios
Intel on the System Lord that ransacked the research camp has come in from a Tok'ra spy within the ranks. The team heads off-world to get an update and a possible extraction if things don't go according to plan. But when does a SG off-world mission ever go according to plan? System: Stargate SG-1 Roleplaying Game, by Wyvern Gaming CAST: Aaron - Kundar Iosif - Drupi Pecs Jeff - Gavin Stroud Jeremy - A'kel Johnny - Namel Jadon - The Gatemaster Music in the background from Scott Buckley
In this episode, the group react to the betrayal that has been exposed and a heated debate ensues. Was the betrayal necessary to thwart a much more sinister betrayal as one character proposes? Or do their fates become much more entangled in a web of lies that will take much longer to sort out? System: OpenD6 Adventure, from West End Games CAST: Jordan — The Game Master Aaron — Sam Feluge Ellie — Archi Jeff — Jerr Lan Jeremy — Julian Illix Johnny — Chine North Music in the background from Fesliyan Studios
We had a lot of fun with this episode, despite the mission and our rolls not going according to plan. An eerily deserted base camp, a disabled DHD, an unexpected acid rain storm, and in true BTT fashion, a plethora of word-play jokes are what the group has to overcome on the first leg of their mission. System: Stargate SG-1 Roleplaying Game, by Wyvern Gaming CAST: Aaron - Kundar Iosif - Drupi Pecs Jeff - Gavin Stroud Jeremy - A'kel Johnny - Namel Jadon - The Gatemaster Music in the background from Scott Buckley
As we are getting close to the end of Season 3, we comment on how far the story has come so far, and how quickly things could change in the season finale. We also talk about some of the mechanics for advancing characters in the OpenD6 system, all in preparation for some of the secrets and "bombs" we expect to drop in the Season 3 finale session and rolling into Season 4 of Elements of War. System: OpenD6 Adventure, from West End Games Character Advancement: Ellie (Archi) Best Roleplay: Jeremy (Julian) Who Brought the best Snack: Ellie (Still Warm Chocolate Chip Cookies) CAST: Jordan — The Game Master Aaron — Sam Feluge Ellie — Archi Jeff — Jerr Lan Jeremy — Julian Illix Johnny — Chime North Music in the background from Fesliyan Studios
In this episode we attempted to tackle the mechanics of a "Convince Encounter". Our horrible roles didn't allow things to go as smoothly as intended, although they made it highly entertaining as the group escapes a diplomatic crisis. Then, this group of newbies also have to escape a crisis in the Gate Room, and end off-world without a full mission briefing. What could go wrong? Most of the team finally reassembles, and it looks as if they have a new unexpected mission. But as they, still somewhat reluctantly, prepare to set out, some dark secrets are finally brought into the light. It' seems the reunion may be short-lived. System: OpenD6 Adventure, from West End Games CAST: Jordan — The Game Master Aaron — Sam Feluge Ellie — Archi Jeff — Jerr Lan Jeremy — Julian Illix Johnny — Chine North Music in the background from Fesliyan Studios
As much as we have talked about and drawn inspiration from the universe of Stargate, we just had to run a session of this game as soon as we could get our hands on it. We have a couple special guests on this play through, and in this episode we introduce the characters and take a look at how combat works in preparation for the inaugural mission of a new SG team form the Phoenix Site. System: Stargate SG-1 Roleplaying Game, by Wyvern Gaming CAST: Aaron - Kundar Iosif - Drupi Pecs Jeff - Gavin Stroud Jeremy - A'kel Johnny - Namel Jadon - The Gatemaster Music in the background from Scott Buckley and Fesliyan Studios
Multiple party members are held captive... or hostage... or prisoner. There is still some debate on the exact nature of the conflict with the animal preserve. Regardless of the correct word usage, things are not going at all according to plan. So they all are taking matters into their own hands. System: OpenD6 Adventure, from West End Games CAST: Jordan — The Game Master Aaron — Sam Feluge Ellie — Archi Jeff — Jerr Lan Jeremy — Julian Illix Johnny — Chine North Music in the background from Fesliyan Studios and other sources
A new game style for us warrants some commentary, so that is exactly what we tackle in this episode. We discuss the pace of the game and some things we did not include in the basic format of the game. All in all, we enjoyed this play through and think some compelling stories were created, which sparked some conversation on the dynamics of our roleplaying group and how the session reminded us of previous campaigns and one-shots. System: A Penny For My Thoughts, by Evil Hat Productions CAST: Ellie Jeff Jeremy Johnny Jordan Patryc Music in the background from Fesliyan Studios
As the group prepares a quick exit from the preserve (at least temporarily), one character attempts to tie up some "loose ends", while others enter unexpected negotiations about who should possess the canister. But even that is derailed as someone hears a mysterious cry for help. System: OpenD6 Adventure, from West End Games CAST: Jordan — The Game Master Aaron — Sam Feluge Ellie — Archi Jeff — Jerr Lan Jeremy — Julian Illix Johnny — Chine North Music in the background from Fesliyan Studios, Kevin MacLeod, and other sources
We complete the second round of negative memories for the rest of our patients in this episode. Death plays a major role in the stories of these characters. Some narrowly escape it, some inadvertently invite it in to their life, and for some we learn that it is a welcomed old friend. But no matter the role, all these stories have become tragedy. System: A Penny For My Thoughts, by Evil Hat Productions CAST: Ellie Jeff Jeremy Johnny Jordan Patryc Music in the background from Fesliyan Studios, and Daniel Birch
Two steps forward, one step back. Some party members are healed, some ready to come back "online", some restore a small level of trust, while an unlikely pair butt heads. And this setback sets off alarms all over the animal preserve. Oh boy! System: OpenD6 Adventure, from West End Games CAST: Jordan — The Game Master Aaron — Sam Feluge Ellie — Archi Jeff — Jerr Lan Jeremy — Julian Illix Johnny — Chine North Music in the background from Fesliyan Studios
We begin the second round of questions for three of our patients in this episode. As if the first round wasn't negative enough, the goal for this round is to intentionally create a negative memory. Don't worry, this is our forte, so we had no trouble putting a dark and mysterious spin on these characters. And in true BTT fashion, everything is not what it seems. System: A Penny For My Thoughts, by Evil Hat Productions CAST: Ellie Jeff Jeremy Johnny Jordan Patryc Music in the background from Fesliyan Studios, Daniel Birch, and Switchfoot
In this commentary episode, we discuss the dichotomy in the events that have taken place at the animal preserve so far. While there has been some major headway made toward reaching the goals the the preserve had promised, the group continues to discover new ways to add inter-personal drama and tension. System: OpenD6 Adventure, from West End Games Character Advancement: Jeff (Jerr) Best Roleplay: Ellie (Archi) Who Brought the best Snack: Jeff (Eclair Dessert Casserole) CAST: Jordan — The Game Master Aaron — Sam Feluge Ellie — Archi Jeff — Jerr Lan Jeremy — Julian Illix Johnny — Chime North Music in the background from Fesliyan Studios
We get to hear from the remaining patients as they share their first memories in this episode. Although the group still struggles to discern what a "positive" memory is, they are at least entertaining... some much more than others. System: A Penny For My Thoughts, by Evil Hat Productions CAST: Ellie Jeff Jeremy Johnny Jordan Patryc Music in the background from Fesliyan Studios, Audionautix.com, and Daniel Birch
Eureka! It appears a cure has been found. However, the tension is higher than ever as it sparks some aggressive negotiations whether or not some are worth saving. Also, as the group works to combine their powers, there are some unforeseen side effects. System: OpenD6 Adventure, from West End Games CAST: Jordan — The Game Master Aaron — Sam Feluge Ellie — Archi Jeff — Jerr Lan Jeremy — Julian Illix Johnny — Chine North Music in the background from Fesliyan Studios
In this next installment of the group therapy session, we take a look at a couple more characters and explore their somewhat positive memories. This time around we see how the patients do not always remember the events clearly, but what might seem like absurdity in the details, might actually be how things panned out. System: A Penny For My Thoughts, by Evil Hat Productions CAST: Ellie Jeff Jeremy Johnny Jordan Patryc Music in the background from Fesliyan Studios, Inner Lotus Music, and Daniel Birch
Although those characters that were sick or injured appear to be on the mend, the decent into dissension continues, as shots are fired both literally and figuratively. One character even is pointing his gun at anyone and everyone this entire episode. System: OpenD6 Adventure, from West End Games CAST: Jordan — The Game Master Aaron — Sam Feluge Ellie — Archi Jeff — Jerr Lan Jeremy — Julian Illix Johnny — Chine North Music in the background from Fesliyan Studios, Daniel Birch, and Matti Paalanen
We embark on a new mentally challenging journey with this run of A Penny Foy My Thoughts, from Evil Hat Productions. We're definitely going to stretch and strengthen our storytelling muscles on this one. In this episode, we read through the details and rule for play, while we lay out the first memory of one of the patients; already laced with mystery, intrigue, and tragedy. System: A Penny For My Thoughts, by Evil Hat Productions CAST: Ellie Jeff Jeremy Johnny Jordan Patryc Music in the background from Fesliyan Studios
Well, the animal preserve certainly hasn't been a dull place. What the characters saw as a respite, Jordan and other players had something much deeper in mind. The group appears to be coming apart at the seams, but in this commentary episode we discuss the methods behind the madness, and postulate how it all might be building toward something greater. System: OpenD6 Adventure, from West End Games Character Advancement: Jeff (Jerr) Best Roleplay: Ellie (Archi) Who Brought the best Snack: Jeremy (Cinnamon Chip Cheesecake Cookies) CAST: Jordan — The Game Master Aaron — Sam Feluge Ellie — Archi Jeff — Jerr Lan Jeremy — Julian Illix Johnny — Chime North Music in the background from Fesliyan Studios
Three main campaigns and about 2 dozen one-shots adds up to a lot of episodes, and some great stories. In this bonus commentary episode, we talk about a lot of our favorite characters, scenes and other memorable moments we've had on the show. We talk about some of the behind the scene things when it comes to collaborative storytelling, and even a bit of production. We also share a few outtakes and highlight several outstanding contributions from past cast members; Carlin, Stephanie, and Mike. It's definitely been a fun ride, and there is still much more to come. CAST: Jordan Aaron Ellie Jeff Jeremy Johnny Music in the background from Fesliyan Studios
Things are looking really grim as the virus continues to replicate and present in ways that are unexpected. The team does what it can to stave off the attacks, but in the end, it's going to take some intervention from above to get a brief reprieve from the chaos. System: OpenD6 Adventure, from West End Games CAST: Jordan — The Game Master Aaron — Sam Feluge Ellie — Archi Jeff — Jerr Lan Jeremy — Julian Illix Johnny — Chine North Music in the background from Fesliyan Studios
Leading up to the final, high flying battle in this one-shot, the cast get's a bit carried away with their use of alliteration and puns. But it all paves the way for some entertaining role playing moments as we pull out all the stops and use all our bag of trick to defeat a giant pumpkin... and it was ridiculously fun! Enjoy! System: Kids On Brooms, by Hunters Entertainment CAST: Aaron -- Aderick Lendra Jeff -- Argon Marks Jeremy -- Raphael Tanner Johnny -- Quin Bishop Jordan -- The Head Master Music in the background from Fesliyan Studios
With this episode, Elements of War becomes our longest running campaign, and we still have so much more story to go. This week, one particular problem spirals quickly out of control, mainly because no one is even aware that the problem exists... and it has put one of our most beloved NPCs in grave danger from the most unlikely of threats. System: OpenD6 Adventure, from West End Games CAST: Jordan — The Game Master Aaron — Sam Feluge Ellie — Archi Jeff — Jerr Lan Jeremy — Julian Illix Johnny — Chine North Music in the background from Fesliyan Studios and other sources
When the characters realize that they are dealing with magic that is way beyond them, some much simpler options are explored. But of course they don't come without some entertaining complications. If the title is any indication, the characters have no idea of the chaos that is about to ensue. This play session also caught most of the cast completely by surprise as well. Alarms sound in the Animal Preserve, and some characters are on the run from the Androids, while others are on the run from each other. But despite the perceived danger, this episode is still only the calm before the storm. Hang on tight, this is going to be a wild ride. System: OpenD6 Adventure, from West End Games CAST: Jordan — The Game Master Aaron — Sam Feluge Ellie — Archi Jeff — Jerr Lan Jeremy — Julian Illix Johnny — Chine North Music in the background from Fesliyan Studios
As we begin play, the group is reluctantly teamed up to retrieve an item unique to the Bronx Magical Academy's upcoming Halloween Ball, only to find it has been stolen. As their list of suspects grow, we lean that they have a propensity to rush headlong into danger... well, at least one of them. System: Kids On Brooms, by Hunters Entertainment CAST: Aaron -- Aderick Lendra Jeff -- Argon Marks Jeremy -- Raphael Tanner Johnny -- Quin Bishop Jordan -- The Head Master Music in the background from Fesliyan Studios, Audionautix.com, and Kevin MacLeod
Things are grim as the group enters the animal preserve. The illnesses are more serious than they had realized, and distrust among the group reaches a new height. It seems that this "safe haven" might only be a catalyst for some volatile reactions. System: OpenD6 Adventure, from West End Games CAST: Jordan — The Game Master Aaron — Sam Feluge Ellie — Archi Jeff — Jerr Lan Jeremy — Julian Illix Johnny — Chine North Music in the background from Fesliyan Studios, Kevin MacLeod, and other sources
We try out the third game in a series by Jonathan Gilmour & Doug Levandowski, which is all about kids at a magical school. In this episode we tackle creation of the school and out characters. It doesn't take us long to use our love of world building to create some zany details that will surely make this story interesting. System: Kids On Brooms, by Hunters Entertainment CAST: Aaron -- Aderick Lendra Jeff -- Argon Marks Jeremy -- Raphael Tanner Johnny -- Quin Bishop Jordan -- The Head Master Music in the background from Fesliyan Studios
Our characters were definitely challenged in this session of play, but we were as players as well. In this commentary, we talk about how although we love the non-linear storytelling method, it was not without its complications. We also touch on the dichotomy of the group coming together but at the same time being on the cusp of something that could tear it apart. System: OpenD6 Adventure, from West End Games Character Advancement: Jeff (Jerr) Best Roleplay: Ellie (Archi) Who Brought the best Snack: Aaron (Kimchi Fried Rice) CAST: Jordan — The Game Master Aaron — Sam Feluge Ellie — Archi Jeff — Jerr Lan Jeremy — Julian Illix Johnny — Chime North Music in the background from Fesliyan Studios
Here is the conclusion of this one-shot series. The group escapes certain death and eventually reconvenes to track down Scorpus. But they can't do it on their own and get the help of a most interesting NPC that steals the show. We also give a brief commentary on the system and how it stacks up to other systems we have played. System: RISUS, by Cumberland Games & Diversions CAST: Jeff -- Bram Tea Jeremy -- Sorren Wade Johnny -- Blondie Jordan -- The Game Master Music in the background from Fesliyan Studios
Barely, escaping the threats of the mountain, the characters complete the last leg of their journey on foot, making it to the Animal Preserve. But the trek is still not without some serious complications. As multiple subversive agendas start to come to light it is still unclear how devastating the ramifications will be. System: OpenD6 Adventure, from West End Games CAST: Jordan — The Game Master Aaron — Sam Feluge Ellie — Archi Jeff — Jerr Lan Jeremy — Julian Illix Johnny — Chine North Music in the background from Fesliyan Studios, and Audionautix.com
In this episode we get to see how conflict works in this system; and there is a lot of it, both external and internal. In true 11th century fashion, our heroes battle knights and dragons, but with the futuristic twist of time travel. And when personal character goals complicate the mission, the door is wide open for more "high-flying", "by the seat of your pants" conflict. Enjoy. We continue to unravel the mystery on the mountain, making some discoveries about or characters in the process. Some feel powerless, some show brand new powers, but most everyone shows paranoia and panic as things literally start to crumble all around them. System: OpenD6 Adventure, from West End Games CAST: Jordan — The Game Master Aaron — Sam Feluge Ellie — Archi Jeff — Jerr Lan Jeremy — Julian Illix Johnny — Chine North Music in the background from Fesliyan Studios, and Kevin MacLeod
We embark on a new One-Shot Adventure, one that Jordan has wanted to play for a while. Get ready for story about aliens, space travel and time travel. Our characters are tasked with tracking down an alien who has been causing problems in ancient earth. Simple enough right? Not for Bone Throwers Theater. System: RISUS, by Cumberland Games & Diversions CAST: Jeff -- Bram Tea Jeremy -- Sorren Wade Johnny -- Blondie Jordan -- The Game Master Music in the background from Fesliyan Studios
As the ship goes down the group is separated. In attempts to save those that are lost, we see two of our character showcase their skills as they were trained for this very type of situation. But the danger is far from over as an approaching storm creates a precarious mountain top situation, and a mysterious figure abducts a character moments before being rescued. System: OpenD6 Adventure, from West End Games CAST: Jordan — The Game Master Aaron — Sam Feluge Ellie — Archi Jeff — Jerr Lan Jeremy — Julian Illix Johnny — Chine North Music in the background from Fesliyan Studios, Audionautix.com, and Kevin MacLeod
Here's a quick commentary episode on our play of Ten Candles. As usual, we dive into what we liked about the mechanics, character creation, and the overall atmosphere that the game creates. We also make some comparisons to other games we have played and weigh in on whether we'll want to comeback to this as another one- shot in the future. System: Ten Candles, by Stephen Dewey CAST: Chris -- Senator Brightburn Jeff -- Vance Doolan Jeremy -- Evan Gilmore Johnny -- Senator Blame Jordan -- The Game Master Music in the background from Fesliyan Studios
We're finishing up our character focused episodes to start off season 3 with a look at to what the journey was like for Sam. Here we see more evidence that the trip wasn't a bonding experience for most of the characters. There are definite seeds of tension that will play heavily in future episodes. However, in the final scene, if appears that when the chips are down, they're all still in this together... mostly. System: OpenD6 Adventure, from West End Games CAST: Jordan — The Game Master Aaron — Sam Feluge Ellie — Archi Jeff — Jerr Lan Jeremy — Julian Illix Johnny — Chine North Music in the background from Fesliyan Studios and Kevin MacLeod
Things really spiral out of control quickly in this episode. Despite successfully gaining a "hope die", most of the characters still fell short of finding refuge in the bunker. The end came quickly for some, while others put up more of a fight. But one by one, the horror of "them" was too much to overcome. System: Ten Candles, by Stephen Dewey Chris -- Senator Brightburn Jeff -- Vance Doolan Jeremy -- Evan Gilmore Johnny -- Senator Blame Jordan -- The Game Master Music in the background from Fesliyan Studios, Audionautix.com, Kevin MacLeod, and other sources
There was certainly a lot to digest in this first session of season 3, as well as a lot of "firsts" for our characters 2/3 of the way through their journey to the Animal Preserve. We comment on a first for the players in a different mode of storytelling. We really enjoyed the mystery and intrigue that this latest non-linear format brought to the table, and we hope you did as well. There are sure to be more "firsts" for both players and characters in the rest of the season. System: OpenD6 Adventure, from West End Games Character Advancement: Johnny (Chime) Best Roleplay (Storytelling): Jeremy (Julian) Who Brought the best Snack: Aaron (Chocolate Peanut Butter Bars) CAST: Jordan — The Game Master Aaron — Sam Feluge Ellie — Archi Jeff — Jerr Lan Jeremy — Julian Illix Johnny — Chime North Music in the background from Fesliyan Studios
With one candle out, the story continues. In this episode, there are glimpses of "them" in the diminishing light. We focus on Archi in this episode, and we've got a flashback battle, along with multiple interpersonal confrontations. But despite how that sounds, it's not all "business and no play". Archi is so serious that the mood somehow magically overflows into moments of comedy. We had a lot of fun in this episode. Enjoy! Julian's got some pretty jagged puzzle pieces to put together on the journey, and the picture that is being revealed is quite jaded. Or is that just his interpretation? He makes the rounds, hoping to get everyone prepared for the change that is coming. In the final scene, we get a glimpse that there will be trouble as they cross the mountains.
