Sean and Amanda start the show by reacting to two huge news headlines from this week, with Denis Villeneuve set to direct the next James Bond film and Aaron Sorkin set to write and direct a sequel to ‘The Social Network' (1:38). Then, they get behind the steering wheel to discuss Joseph Kosinski's highly anticipated action blockbuster ‘F1,' starring Brad Pitt. They talk about how the electrifying filmmaking displayed throughout the racing scenes makes the film worth the price of admission, acknowledge some of its noticeable flaws, and hypothesize whether or not it will perform well at the box office (23:00). Later, Sean is joined by Kosinski, who discusses why this was the most difficult shooting environment he's ever experienced, how he feels about the major studios' relationship to the theatrical experience at large, and much more (1:12:26). Our Creative Archetypes Series continues this week with Enneagram 2's “The Helper.” Merideth chats with author Holly Oxhandler. Holly is the Associate Dean for Research and Faculty Development and an Associate Professor at Baylor University's Diana R. Garland School of Social Work. Holly studies religion/spirituality, health, and mental health, and as a studio art minor in college, she embeds creativity into every aspect of her life and work. Merideth and Holly explore how to be a helper without burning out and seeing creativity as an act of self-care and connection. Other 2 voices in the episode: piano teacher and podcaster Christina Whitlock and author/spiritual growth coach Stephanie Miller. Invitation: Put your oxygen mask on first. Write 3 pages of longhand stream of consciousness first thing upon waking. After you finish writing, step outside of yourself, re-read your pages and look for clues about what it is you need. What is one thing you could give to yourself today that you need? Be your own helper, mother, giver, or friend. Having taken care of yourself, look at those around you and ask the same question. What needs do I see? How can I serve them personally— with a phone call or a bouquet of fresh flowers— or creatively—with a handmade card or homecooked meal? Use your creativity to find connection and collaboration, to comfort yourself and others. Start Your Transformation Now This is a powerful episode when you finally get the gravity of the title – You speak your life into existence. Everything you have or don't have in your life, you have either spoken it into your life or out of your life. Fully consider that. You may have heard the old phrase, “You live and die by your word?” Well, you also create and manifest or repel by your word. Words are power. Words program your subconscious mind. Words affect behavior. Words have vibration and frequency. In this episode I talk about: [1:15] How you speak your life into existence[4:51] Why your world is the way that it is[7:39] How you create with your words[9:03] The power of self-talk[12:57] Words and stories that keep you trapped[21:02] Healing your body with words[24:53] And, the frequency and vibration of word As I said, this is a powerful episode and when you become 100% responsible for your words, your life will begin to transform in miraculous ways. As Kahlil Gibran said, “Your words are drippings of the mind.” And, you already know what's in your mind is what you will create in your life. Listen, apply, and enjoy! Today, Ricki talks to her lifelong friend John Waters, whose iconic film “Hairspray” has become a theater favorite. It’s also where Ricki, playing Tracy Turnblad, made her movie debut. After working on several films together, the two have become lifelong friends. They dish on their crazy memories of working on set, John’s appearance on The Ricki Lake Show, and what it’s like to have your work labeled as “trashy.” Please note, Raised By Ricki contains mature themes and may not be appropriate for all listeners. Start Your Transformation Now As I was thinking about this week's episode and what I wanted to share I had an epiphany: I have tons of things to share with you sitting right on my desk. For decades I have taken notes when talking to my brother-in-law, the shaman. Over the years I've gone through the notes and taken an inventory of myself and my own growth and often I add to the notes with my own assessment of self-growth. As I was thinking about this week's episode I had a stack of notes on my desk that are simply personal notes to myself and I thought, “Why don't I share this with people?” The podcast is never contrived or orchestrated in any way others than to serve you and perhaps give you food for thought, and when I had this idea earlier I decided to just share with you some of the bullets from my personal notes. The thoughts I share this week have been life-changing for me and I think you'll also find value. I could give the bullet points I talk about here in this write-up but that ruins all the fun of new discovery, so, listen to this week's episode and I'm curious so to whether or not you like the impromptu format of this episode. The general theme this week is random thoughts regarding spiritual responsibility for our lives and our personal evolution. Listen, apply, and enjoy! If you're struggling with manifesting money, love, or success, it might be because you're spiritually blocked. In this powerful throwback conversation, David Ghiyam, co-founder of Mary Ruth Organics and leading Kabbalah teacher, reveals the ancient spiritual principles that govern abundance and why most people unknowingly sabotage their own manifestation. David breaks down: – Why your soul chooses specific challenges to accelerate your growth – The two biggest spiritual blocks preventing you from receiving abundance – How judgment creates karmic debt and keeps you stuck in painful cycles – Why competing desires sabotage your manifestation (and how to align them) – The spiritual flywheel: creating unstoppable momentum in 24 hours – How childhood trauma and family dynamics shape your vessel for receiving – The difference between punishment-based religion and true spiritual transformation This isn't your typical manifestation content. David shares profound insights from Kabbalah that explain why some people effortlessly attract success while others struggle despite doing "all the right things." He reveals how taking complete responsibility for your reality and transforming your spiritual baggage opens the floodgates to receiving everything you desire. Whether you're an entrepreneur, parent, or anyone seeking deeper fulfillment, this conversation will shift how you understand success, relationships, and your soul's purpose. #kabbalah #manifestation #spirituality David Ghiyam Instagram: @davidghiyam ==== Thank You To Our Sponsors! Unable to meet this week, the Pugcast decided to share an episode from the 2019 archives. Tune in for this blast from the past! Perhaps the most controversial character in all of Tolkien's writing is Tom Bombadil. People seem to either love him or hate him. But regardless how you feel about him, most people can't figure out why he's even in the Lord of the Rings. What's the point of the man in the blue jacket and the yellow boots? Certainly Peter Jackson thought he was expendable. He isn't even in the film version of the story. Was he inserted to make Tolkien's children happy? Was Tolkien providing a little filler to buy time because he was still working out the plot? Chris thinks that Tolkien was up to far more than people give him credit for when it comes to Bombadil. Chris actually thinks that you don't really understand Tolkien, or the Lord of the Rings, until you receive Bombadil into your heart. Listen in as Chris, Tom, and Glenn discuss the meaning of the mysterious Tom Bombadil!
