Jean-Nicolas Reyt—a negotiation professor at McGill University—teaches his students a simple and practical way to negotiate: Ask and you'll receive. If you don't ask, you won't get what you want. But why do so many students struggle to ask? Why do they decide they're satisfied with a subpar deal? Jean-Nicolas dissects the phenomenon of compliance in this throwback episode of Negotiations Ninja.
On this Thursday bonus episode we are going to play the interview from episode 305 back in February 2021 with writer/director Anna Biller about the making of her feature The Love Witch, which we felt was a pretty good match for Emily since they both had long periods in between projects, although the circumstances are a little different. In this throwback episode of The Power Producers Podcast, David Carothers and co-host Kyle Houck discuss how important it is to solve problems instead of selling a product because as prospects share information, the higher the chances are of being able to close a sale. Episode Highlights: David mentions that he's beginning to believe that many agents do not understand how to identify and solve problems their prospects have. (3:37) David explains how to increase your ability to close a sale by identifying the problems that you could solve for prospects instead of simply selling an insurance product. (9:27) David mentions that it is important to have an outline to avoid any complications and misunderstandings. (11:56) David explains that if you're not getting the support you need from your agency, then you should go work for a different agency. (16:11) Kyle talks about how agents can lead their prospects down the path of discovery by dictating the line of questioning. (21:34) Kyle explains that explaining too much about the technical side of things to the prospect can make them feel overwhelmed. (24:07) David shares one of the mass marketing videos that he finds to be very effective. (25:06) David and Kyle explain how important it is to always follow up with your prospects, as it is very rare to have a sale on the initial pitch. (28:00) Tweetable Quotes: "If you're not getting that kind of support, go work for a different agency. You know, I mean, I hate to say that, but that's number one." - David Carothers "I think people have a hard time identifying how to figure out the problems. And the thing is, part of the issue is, the only solution has been to sell them insurance right?" - David Carothers "So many times we talk about it, we beat it to death about how people are worried about selling a product instead of solving a problem." - David Carothers Resources Mentioned: David Carothers Kyle Houck Florida Risk Partners The Extra 2 Minutes

When Nancy Newman didn't show up for work on March 15, 1987, her coworker became worried and called Nancy's sister, Cheryl Chapman and asked if she could check on Nancy. Cheryl and her husband immediately drove over to Nancy's apartment that she shared with her husband and 2 young daughters. When they arrived and no one answered the door, they used the spare key to enter. How is teaching art different than teaching creativity? How do you teach creativity in the context of art? In this throwback episode of Fueling Creativity in Education podcast, Dr. Cyndi Burnett and Dr. Matthew Worwood revisit their discussion with Tamara Doleman, head of the Visual Art department at Ashbury College in Canada. Tamara is passionate about exploring the intersection between art, creativity, wellbeing, and the growth and healing potential it can provide our communities and schools. Listen in to learn about Tamara's deliberate approach to teaching creativity in the art classroom and the difference between teaching art and teaching creativity. She details the many benefits of teaching for creativity in schools, especially now during the pandemic, along with how to facilitate a long-term program for creativity in your classroom. “Creativity is the celebration of pluralism and diversity. I think that our world, in essence, really needs to come to terms with the fact that all of us are different and we all have something to contribute to the world. And so, when we're teaching for creativity, we're really teaching an individual how to be comfortable with who they are and start to think about what they want to bring into the world… to make it a better, more enjoyable, beautiful place” - Tamara Doleman Tamara's Tips for Teachers and Parents: Read up on creativity, but also read up on what skills and characteristics different artists have. Were they risk-takers, detail-oriented, etc? Don't focus on and criticize the outcome of a creative experience. Focus on the creative process and how each student differs from one another. Acknowledging how you talk to yourself during your creative process is an opportunity for learning in a creative space. Encourage your kids to work through frustration, getting stuck, and their inner critic. Engagement and connection will increase once you focus on creativity in the classroom. Set up expectations and awareness around behaviors and how our actions impact others. Foster a space where kids feel comfortable being playful and coming up with crazy ideas. State income taxes receive little attention from the general public when compared with federal income taxes but they can make a big difference in how much you do or do not pay. How much you pay depends on where you live, work, own a home, and how much you earn per year. So, in this episode, I will be sharing some real-life issues and situations that my clients have faced when it comes to state income taxes and what mistakes to avoid in the future. https://bit.ly/411CtkX

(12:36) Charles explains that he wants people to realize that there is no reason to stay small. (14:31) Charles shares that the best business lesson he learned was the power of thinking bigger. You have to take a step back and do that every once in a while because you just don't realize what you're doing in the middle of it.” - Charles Specht “There's no reason why you have to stay small. It doesn't matter, whatever the case is if your agency isn't used to those types of accounts, it doesn't matter, write them, prospect them, you'll figure it out.” - Charles Specht Resources Mentioned: Reach out to Charles Specht Permission Network Insurance Agency, Inc.

Listen, I know the world is a hard place. And while the Internet, in some ways, is just a reflection of the world, I see way too many of us being mean as hell online. I'm not talking about trolls and white supremacists. I'm talking about us. Even in my own comment sections I see way too much hatefulness, and what I would call "casual bigotry" coming from otherwise good people. Hey everyone, today we're revisiting an episode of The Breakdown that originally aired on July 14, 2022, but the question that we explored on that day is just as relevant now as it was then. Why do we accept a system where we fully fund mass incarceration but fail to fully fund education and healthcare? Budgets are moral documents that reflect our values and priorities as a society. On today's throwback episode, we're re-visiting one of our favorite episodes from Tiffany Hawkins & Allan Boomer from The Momentum Advisors. Have you ever thought about where your investment dollars are really going? Chances are, they're not being invested in the communities that matter most to you. In fact, they could be supporting institutions that go against your values, such as immigration, prison complexes, racism, and excess gun usage. In this eye-opening episode, we're asking the tough question: "Is Your Money Racist?" and providing you with the tools to take control of your investments and ensure they align with your values.
