What craft tools make a low-budget, contained, period drama riveting? Explore how narrative POV, interweaving relationships, hooky dialogue, and even the screenplay format itself make the script for BLUE MOON - that runs largely in real time about an obscure songwriter in the 1940s - one that attracts world class talent and Academy Award nominations. While Stu is still on show and we are between the 2026 Oscar nominations and the actual ceremony, our patreons selected BLUE MOON for this one-shot and boy are Mel and Chas glad they did. They dive into many lessons learned in previous episodes, like our character-driven episode… or analysis of French scenes in Adolescence… or the story-telling power that comes from the audience knowing the ending from biopics. Breathe Pictures Photography Podcast: Documentaries and Interviews
Sometimes the most profound photographs aren't made in an instant, they're cultivated over days, even weeks. In this special two-part episode, I walk with photographer Giles Penfound in Penwood in Berkshire, as he slows down to make a single large-format image of a giant tree, a portrait created in honour of a photographer known to us both. Working with a 5x4 plate camera, Giles has transformed his practice from the fast-paced world of documentary work to something more deliberate, contemplative, and rooted in presence. Across two weeks, we explore what it means to truly slow down: waiting for light, sitting with a 'subject', and navigating the mental space that opens up when you're no longer chasing the next frame. We discuss mental health, the quality of light, and choosing a different pace of life in a world that demands speed. This is photography as meditation, as ritual, as a way of being fully present with the world. Read more about our photographic adventures on our photography travel website, The Journey Beyond. Links to all guests and features will be on the show page, my sincere thanks to our Extra Milers, without whom we wouldn't be walking each week and Arthelper.ai, giving photographers smart tools to plan, promote, and manage your creative projects more easily. WHY: A Sketchbook of Life is available here.

Palms sweaty? Knees weak? Arms heavy? Good. That means you care. Zam's borrowing a page from Eminem's “Lose Yourself” to underscore a hard truth about the fireground: Sometimes you only get one shot. There is no rewind on a mayday, no reset button on a rescue and no do-over on a critical command decision. Zam draws parallels between elite athletes training for their Olympic moment and firefighters preparing for the call that will test everything they know. Sharing stories from the sports world and his own experience on the job, Zam urges you to remember this simple fact: Every call deserves your full attention. Every drill should be treated like the one that could define your career. Email bettereveryshift@firerescue1.com to share your feedback.

It's time for our annual Valentine's Day Date Night reveal. In this Moving Panels One Shot, Laramy brings Bethany along as he walks through the process of choosing this year's Valentine's movie — from questionable AI suggestions and past date-night picks to romantic choices that absolutely did not make sense. Along the way, they talk about what actually makes a good Valentine's movie, how classic literature unexpectedly enters the conversation, and why not every comic book adaptation is meant for a romantic evening.Bethany doesn't know the movie going in, and neither do you.Join us for the debate, the banter, and the build-up to the surprise that will define this year's Moving Panels Valentine's Day Date Night episode.

Confidence isn't something you're born with — it's something you build. In this episode of Right About Now, Ryan Alford sits down with Mara Dorn, a leader who has helped build billion-dollar sales organizations and mentor hundreds of young professionals. Mara shares the lessons she learned early: you only get one shot, first impressions matter, and how you show up physically affects how you perform mentally. Drawing from decades of experience, she explains why discipline, posture, energy, and personal standards still matter — even in a world driven by convenience, shortcuts, and AI. This isn't about appearances for appearance's sake. It's about understanding how confidence, credibility, and work ethic are deeply connected to results. In this episode, we cover: Why first impressions are psychological, not superficial How posture and presence affect performance The difference between confidence and ego Why discipline outperforms talent The generational shift in work ethic How to build real confidence without pretending to be perfect Why authenticity still requires standards Mara also opens up about anxiety, imperfection, and how embracing flaws — instead of hiding them — can become a competitive advantage. Fear is one of the most powerful forces in superhero storytelling. In this Moving Panels: One Shot, Laramy Wells is joined by Tim Williams and James Brooks to explore how fear shapes heroes, villains, and the worlds they inhabit. From Batman turning fear into a symbol, to Daredevil enduring it night after night in Hell's Kitchen, to mutants, monsters, and myths built on what people fear most, this conversation digs into why superheroes don't succeed without fear — they succeed because of it.If you've ever wondered whether heroes overcome fear, weaponize it, or simply learn to live with it, this One Shot is for you.
