Today special guest scholar and musician Yuri Campbell returns to review the key lessons we learned from Nate's discussions with Ed Ward about his book “The History of Rock & Roll, Volume 2: 1964-1977 The Beatles, The Stones and the Rise of Classic Rock” and the Let It Roll series covering it. We talk about Ward's cultural scholarship and what lessons we can learn from his method of studying music history. Rafe got a great Christmas gift: the book "The Stones of the Abbey", by Fernand Pouillon. He's reviewing it for you this week on the Buf.This historical fiction account tells the story of a master building an abbey in Provence in France in the late 1100s. Through dated journal entries, he tells the story of the beginning of the construction of the Abbey of Le Thoronet in southeastern France.Lessons about concerning masonry and framing and quarrying and smithing and all sorts of things associated with building in the middle ages but most of all, this book is a philosophy text, examining Man's role as a creator in his manifestation as Imago Dei.*****As always, you can reach the Buf at bufnagle@bufnagle.com*****As you know, this is an independent podcast so your hosts also carry all the expenses of running this podcast. As such, some of you have asked how you can help out. Well, here's the answer: support us on Buy Me a Coffee:https://buymeacoffee.com/bufnagleOn this page, you can do a really nice thing like send us a couple dollars to help cover the cost of recording and hosting and microphones and research and all that. Any little bit really helps! Thank you in advance!!!

In this episode, I sit down with drummer Paul Stewart for a conversation that starts with how music can connect people across oceans and turns into a deep dive on taste, touch, craft, and the long arc of a career. Paul and I talk about how I first discovered his band The Feeling years ago from a CD a friend handed me after a gig, and how that one listen turned into a long-term appreciation for the songs, the playing, and the production. Paul shares why so many musicians connected with that sound, and how their work pulled from both the 70s world of Supertramp, 10CC, Elton John, and Fleetwood Mac, and the deeper 60s roots that fed that era, like The Beatles, The Stones, The Kinks, and The Zombies. We get into drum sound, why that thuddy, dead 70s tone fits their music so well, and how those choices shaped the identity of the recordings.Paul walks me through his origin story, from being hooked on drum sound as a kid, to getting his first kit at 12, to saying yes to every playing opportunity he could find. He tells an incredible story about a middle school teacher who stayed late after school so Paul could get extra time in the drum room, and we zoom out on how mentors, parents, and supportive educators change the course of a life. From there, we talk about preparation, professionalism, and the responsibility you carry in an ensemble, including how the anxiety of being underprepared can be its own lesson in why doing the work matters. Paul also shares a regret he has about not keeping his reading chops sharper, and why playing along with records became his true north as a drummer. We dig into influences from both sides of Paul's musical world, from rock and early Chili Peppers and Rage Against the Machine, to the cassette tapes an uncle sent that opened the door to jazz, funk, fusion, and players like Vinnie Colaiuta, Dave Weckl, and the Tower of Power world. Paul explains how the UK acid jazz scene became a significant pull, and how an acid jazz band at music college eventually evolved into The Feeling. We also talk about what it's like working with major artists outside the band, including how touring logistics can lead to local musicians being hired, and how surreal it can be to play iconic songs with legendary voices while still remembering they're just musicians on stage doing the same job.A meaningful part of our conversation is about performance anxiety, stage fright, and the emotional extremes musicians ride before, during, and after gigs. We talk honestly about confidence, coping, and what it means to choose a healthier path, and we acknowledge that even global superstars can struggle with fear right before walking on stage. Paul and I also reflect on the approaching anniversary of The Feeling's first album, how those songs were originally recorded as a weekend friends project without any expectation of success, and how playing them now carries twenty years of growth, finesse, and perspective while still honoring the original parts that make the songs work. We close with what Paul has been up to recently, including work with Anastacia, Paul Young, The Voice UK, and the broader creative world around the band, and why music remains a powerful source of joy, balance, and hope for people everywhere.Music from the Episode:Never Be Lonely (The Feeling)Everyday and All of the Night (The Feeling)Sun Won't Shine (The Feeling)I Want You Now (The Feeling)Thank you for listening. This message invites us to pause at the end of the year and honestly reflect on what we are living for. In a culture obsessed with what's next, we often forget that the journey matters just as much as the destination. Why? because what we remember shapes what we repeat. Drawing from Joshua 4, we see that God called His people to stack stones as a memorial of His faithfulness, not just to mark a miracle, but to pass it on to the next generation. In the end, the question isn't if something will remain, but what. As the year closes, we're challenged to live with the end in mind, to remember where God has brought us from, and to build a life that leaves behind a story that continues to impact long after we're gone.

@Christadelphians Video: Description: The 12 foundations of the city walls are made of 12 stones that reflect pure light. All light we see is reflected, but isotropic materials don't affect polarised light, whereas anisotropic materials do. All the stones mentioned in Revelation 21 for the foundations are anisotropic which means when pure polarised light shines through them they are colourful. God looks on the heart with pure light, so the glory of God is reflected in us as living stones as the foundation to build the saints who are the temple of the living God.# SummaryThe video explores the significance of the 12 specific jewels chosen by God for the foundations of the city walls in Revelation 21, emphasizing their unique properties and spiritual symbolism.# Highlights-

TPCCafe Radio Presents Classic Westerns, Have Gun Will Travel: Assignment In Stones Crossing
We hope you are having a very Merry Christmas! Jim and Greg are spending the day with their families, but we're happy to present an encore presentation of a recent special edition of the 3 Martini Lunch!Join Jim and Greg as they dive into stories that didn't quite make the cut for full martinis in recent weeks but still deserve attention. Jim examines the persistent challenges of inflation and America's skyrocketing debt, while Greg highlights a major Trump victory at the United Nations and new signs that one expected 2028 Democrat contender may be bowing out before the race begins. Then they get a little but more on the lighter side for their final martinis.First, Jim notes that while inflation is much more under control than during the Biden administration, it's still stubbornly at or around three percent year-over-year most months and it's still making many Americans sweat. Greg focuses on the Trump administration leading the charge to stop a United Nations carbon emissions tax on shipping. Greg cheers the latest win in blocking the left's green agenda and higher prices for the goods on those ships. Jim adds another critical point that's key in any discussion of the United Nations.Next, Jim shudders as the national debt officially soars beyond the $38 trillion mark and he's especially horrified at how fast the debt is growing. Meanwhile, Greg points out recent comments from Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer suggesting she may not run for president in 2028. That would be good news given Whitmer's terrible record as governor. Finally, Jim explains how the NFL's desire to reach younger fans could soon lead to a significant drop in viewership. Greg wonders if there is any integrity left in competition after another cheating scandal rocks a world championship.New episodes every weekday.

In this episode we had an awesome time talking with Tom "War Yoga" Billinge. A martial artist, author, and Stonelifter (among many other things), Tom has travelled the world seeking to obtain knowledge from historically rooted physical practices. He has a deep understanding of ancient Greece's culture of strength and competition, and has even rediscovered and placed his hands on a piece of Greece's Stonelifting past that is nearly 3,000 years old!!! Tom has also witnessed firsthand (and partaken in) the varied Stonelifting practices of South Asia, and more specifically Pakistan, where the feats of strength performed are so impressive many find them difficult to believe! It was an absolute pleasure talking with Tom who has a wealth of Knowledge and a knack for sharing it in a very very enthusiastic and entertaining way!!!

The Moravian denomination is one of the oldest Protestant denominations in Christianity. Its roots date back to the mid-1400s and was one of the first movements to break free from Roman Catholicism. Many of the followers became exiles and traveled to America, where they settled in states like Georgia, Pennsylvania and North Carolina. They established their own cemeteries, dubbing them as God's Acre. Intro and Outro music "Stones and Bones" was written and produced by History Goes Bump and any use is strictly prohibited. Advent E2 — In the second week of Advent, we're reflecting on peace. The word most often translated as “peace” in the Hebrew Bible is shalom, but its meaning goes far beyond the absence of conflict. Shalom is about wholeness, completeness, and everything being as it should be. It describes uncut stones at an altar, honest weights in the marketplace, integrity of the heart, flourishing relationships, and life lived in harmony with God's purposes. In this episode, Jon and Tim trace the deep biblical meaning of peace and show how Advent points to the arrival of Jesus, the Prince of Peace, who reconciles divided people and makes them one.FULL SHOW NOTESFor chapter-by-chapter notes including summaries, referenced Scriptures, biblical words, and reflection questions, check out the full show notes for this episode.CHAPTERSShalom in Stones, Weights, and Hearts—and Also Fulfillment (00:00–15:15)Shalom as Well-Being and the Prince of Shalom (15:15–29:21)Jesus, Our Peace (29:21–35:38)Reflections on Peace With Allison (35:38-39:42)OFFICIAL EPISODE TRANSCRIPTView this episode's official transcript.REFERENCED RESOURCESShalom / Peace: Though not referenced directly in the episode, this 2017 video explores the same biblical word, shalom.Check out Tim's extensive collection of recommended books here.SHOW MUSIC“Silver N Gold” by Lofi Sunday & Yoni Charis“Snow Fall” by Lofi Sunday & TBabz “Snowflakes” by AvesBibleProject theme song by TENTS SHOW CREDITSProduction of today's episode is by Lindsey Ponder, producer, and Cooper Peltz, managing producer.
