The Yassification of Darren Criss; Or, The Darren Crissification of Yass

Play Episode Listen Later Dec 30, 2022 45:10

Many love him, some hate him, most people don't know who he is--this episode is about actor and singer Darren Criss! There has been controversy in the past few years about whether or not Darren is a queerbaiter, especially because he has repeatedly taken acting roles for gay characters. Darren is yet another victim in a long line of celebrities, both minor and major, who have been subject to the horseshoe theory-esque rhetoric of queerbaiting accusations, where straight men who deviate from traditional gender norms but Aren't Gay are automatically queerbaiting. We explore this in depth, starting with their own origin stories of why the fuck they care about this guy. They touch on everything from whether things that aren't gay can actually be gay, if being an Aquarius makes a man more likely to be accused of queerbaiting, and how rare it is that Darren Criss actually is half Asian, unlike the cast of iCarly and multiple other famous men who are either Jewish or simply white. This episode is truly a wild ride and for that we are both sorry and also very much not! You're welcome freaks!! Is Harry gay?? Is he QUEERBAITING??????????? Amazingly for you all, we (mostly Hadar) know a disgusting amount about Harry Styles the man the myth the legend, and we also both read the book and saw the movie. We did our fucking Homework for this shit. We're coming in hot with our takes on everything from Harry's birth chart to the symbolism of the ocean. Completely unknowingly, I recorded several episodes all about periods. Which, looking back, isn't very shocking at all considering I have PCOS which is an endocrine disorder that heavily affects the menstrual cycle. So now we have a mini-series! This week I had Tiffany Williams, a functional nutritional therapy practitioner (FNTP), talk about periods, the keto diet (YES AGAIN LMAO), and big words like gluconeogenesis. You can follow her on Instagram at @tiffanywilliamsfntp or check out her website at sageflowholistic.com. As always, you can reach me at @dykechef on Instagram or on my website at hadarkaly.com. I know people don't wanna hear it but ... the ketogenic diet is literally just an eating disorder. Most diets are also just eating disorders, but that's a topic for another episode. There's lots of ground to cover so let's buckle up. Trigger warning for discussion of eating disorder behaviors. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/recoveryjargon/support

Aaaaaaand we're back! Here's 30+ minutes of me explaining why I ~rebranded~ the podcast after a [redacted] amount of time stressing about what the hell to do with it. PLUS I learned that royalty free music exists and now I have a cute little intro and outro so you don't just have to listen to me breathe heavily into the microphone. Yes, someday I will remember to not hold it directly in front of my mouth and hopefully the sound quality will improve at that point.
