You've mastered the art of timeline shifting. You understand how to navigate between realities, how to align with different versions of yourself, and how to recognize when you've successfully moved into a new timeline. Yet here you are, feeling the friction of an invisible constraint that seems to govern how quickly your manifestations can actually appear in your physical experience. You might find yourself thinking, "I know I've shifted into the timeline where this relationship exists, so why is it taking months to meet this person?" or "I can feel myself in the reality where my business is thriving, but the clients and opportunities are trickling in so slowly." This frustration is real, and it's not a sign that your shifting abilities are lacking. You've simply bumped up against the unconscious speed limits that most practitioners never even The truth is that conventional manifestation teachings have conditioned us to accept artificial timing constraints as natural laws. We've been taught that good things come to those who wait, that overnight success is suspicious, that real change takes time. These aren't universal principles of manifestation - they're learned limitations that act like speed governors on the engine of conscious creation. Think about your smartphone for a moment. The device in your pocket has more computing power than entire buildings full of computers had just decades ago, yet most people only use a fraction of its capabilities because they don't know how to access the advanced features. Your consciousness operates similarly - it has the capacity for manifestation speeds that would seem miraculous to conventional thinking, but these capabilities remain dormant because you haven't been taught how to activate them. In this episode we're going to explore the specific mechanisms that govern manifestation velocity, identify the unconscious beliefs and patterns that create artificial delays, and then activate your natural capacity for shifting at God speed.

The word “ordinary,” if it is used at all, usually seems to be used in the pejorative, implying something negative. I bring this up because in our Godspeed series this word seems to resurface often. We referred to “Three miles an hour” as the speed at which God works, and it would seem to be a little below average. “Ordinary means of grace”—isn't that a little pedestrian? And now, “Ordinary people”. It might seem to some that we are trying to set the bar exceedingly low. Who wants anything that is ordinary! Not when we can go viral, not when we all seem to be infected with “main character syndrome,” where the majority of our social media posts portray us or our family in only our most glorious moments. It is almost like we are scared of the ordinary, the mundane, and the humdrum moments of life, as if they are something to be shunned or hurried through to get to the really good stuff. We find ourselves resenting the ordinary stuff like raising kids, cooking meals, or going to our ordinary jobs. Heaven knows, our nosy neighbors are such an interruption because they need help with this or that or need us to watch their child for a bit. We are anxious to get past the mundane stuff to get on to the really exciting stuff, the novel stuff, the stuff we see influencers and our friends posting about, or what we see glamorized on TV. Yet, what if this view of life is perhaps the bleakest myth to ever capture the imagination of the human mind? What if the ordinary stuff is really where God meets us? What if the most hallowed space we inhabit is in the mundane and commonplace? What if the stuff we rush through mindlessly is the very place that both veils and reveals the holy and sacred to us? I tell you, I would want some of that because, try as I might, most of my life is ordinary. We need look no further than Jesus who, in his resurrected body with serious upgrades, has every chance to throw off the mundane, dazzle us with novelty, and tantalize us with the spectacular; and yet, he meets his witless, cowering disciples in a familiar room and calms their fears. In doing so, he reinforces the notion that the eternal kingdom he is inaugurating is going to move forward with ordinary people doing ordinary things, things not reserved for the gifted but that really turn on the necessities of life. They are the kind of things we often rush through to get to “real life,” whatever that is. We will talk about it on Sunday. I hope you will join us!

Many of you know I am taking this summer as a sabbatical, in large part to make significant progress on my doctoral dissertation. Maybe you even know that the focus of my work is on C.S. Lewis. What you might be wondering is how all this ties directly to my ministry with St. Patrick. Well, to put it simply, what I love about Lewis is what I love about St. Patrick. If you've never dug deeper into Lewis' thought and writing than his children's stories and popular theology, you might be surprised to learn that he was primarily a literary scholar, focusing on Medieval and Renaissance literature. The thing that fascinated him (and me!) about this era of time is the way people still believed that every jot and tittle of creation was a part of a well-ordered and beautiful picture of God's love for humanity – a cathedral of the grace in which we live, move, and have our being. He was concerned about what kind of discipleship would be required today to invite “modern” people out of the cold, dark, and chaotic infinitude of the myths they're believing, and welcome them into the marvelous light and warmth of God's true story. Unsurprisingly, the answer for Lewis, and for St. Patrick, has largely been that the better story features at its center a kind of symbolic participation. As we continue on the scenic route along our “Godspeed series,” we stop today to consider the profound fact that the post-resurrection appearances of Christ feature a disproportionate number of episodes involving Jesus sharing meals with disciples. In a world where we often think of meals as logistical interruptions in our workflow, Jesus redirects our attention to the central priority of the table in his own kingdom. It is unsettlingly revealing that the disciples on the road to Emmaus got a 3-hour Bible study from the Word of God Himself and didn't manage to recognize Him until they stopped for dinner. I can't wait to unpack that with you all!

You can find Nickolas Butler at https://nickolasbutler.com/ or on IG @wiscobutler Amy discovered Nickolas Butler earlier this year when she attended the author event for his newest novel A Forty Year Kiss at Carmichael's Bookstore. Nick has six novels and a collection of short stories under his belt, but A Forty Year Kiss may be his first love story. His mind was set to wondering after he overheard a passionate conversation in his favorite local bar between two older people, a conversation that made him blush just a little. He began playing with the idea of what this couple's back story was. Nick's book asks readers to consider the difference between first love and love between mature adults, how life's baggage affects personal relationships, and whether people can really change. Nick also talks to us about his rural Wisconsin roots, why he read Babysitter Club books in his childhood, and the debate on whether he should wear a cape. For our book recommendation section of this episode, we decided to find some of our favorite books we've read as a result of being in a book club together for two decades. For the most part, our book club chooses novels, but there is one memoir in the lot, as well as contemporary fiction, historical fiction, sci-fi, and a classic. A version of this essay was published by rediff.com at https://www.rediff.com/movies/column/what-made-shaji-n-karun-a-master-film-maker/20250429.htmJust last week, I read in the local Trivandrum papers about Shaji N Karun receiving an award in the name of J C Daniel, an early pioneer in Malayalam films. That's when I realized that the master film-maker had named his house ‘Piravi' in memory of his extraordinary directorial debut in 1988. It brought back a flood of memories of that film, whose title means ‘birth', but whose theme was death and loss. Now comes the news of his own death, aged 73, from cancer. Om shanti, Godspeed, Shaji, as you join the Great White Whirligig in the Sky!I met the director twice: once, about fifty years ago, when we both were volunteers for a local science fair, and he was a student at the Film and Television Institute in Pune; and then in 1988 or 1989, when he spoke at the San Francisco International Film Festival, where ‘Piravi' was featured. The film had won the Cannes Camera d'Or-Mention d'Honneur, among many other prizes, including at Locarno, Edinburgh and so on: possibly more than any other Indian film. What impressed me about his talk was his humility and reticence: even though he was an acclaimed cinematographer and ‘Piravi' was received very well, he was quiet, even shy. He explained his use of the blue tints in the film: it is the color of apasmaram, he said, using the Malayalam/Sanskrit word for madness, which the father of the ‘disappeared' youth in the film falls into.Even though he made several other films, and he was the cinematographer who shot most of the works of legendary Malayalam film-maker G Aravindan, it is ‘Piravi' that marked the zenith of his career. I can say without hesitation that it is stunningly powerful; as an art-film fan, I have seen hundreds of superb, even outstanding films, but this one, alone, spoke to me. I wept seeing it, tears streaming down my cheeks. No other film has ever affected me so much. For a Malayalam speaker and one who had seen the Emergency, it was a viscerally powerful experience, especially because it was based on the real-life story of Rajan, a ‘disappeared' engineering student. As I wrote some years ago in https://www.rediff.com/news/column/emergency-why-rajans-story-resonates-with-me/20150625.htm I could easily have been another Rajan, another number.Rajan's character is never seen in the film, except as a child; his father, played by octogenarian Premji, fills the screen with his presence, his anguish, at the loss of his only son born late in his life. And in real life, the father, Professor Eachara Warrier, who was one of my heroes, https://www.rediff.com/news/2006/apr/24rajeev.htm spent the rest of his life demanding justice from the uncaring State. The film's minimalist dialogue and focus on human despair, grief, and the struggle against systemic injustice resonate universally, transcending cultural boundaries. Its subtle yet poignant exploration of loss makes it relatable to global audiences.Apart from the universal message of grief, there is also the story of the father-son relationship. I was strongly affected by passages from the film where you realize how much the predatory State took from the father, as per the Hindu tradition. I remembered my father 10,000 miles away in India, who too had no son to help him.The film begins with an invocation from the Kaushitaki Upanishad; a dying man bequeaths his life to his son. The son accepts each of his gifts."My speech in you I would place". "Your speech in me I take.""My sight in you I would place." "Your sight in me I take.""My mind in you I would place." "Your mind in me I take.""My deeds in you I would place." "Your deeds in me I take.""My vital breath in you I would place". "Your vital breath in me I take.""May glory, luster and fame delight in you." "Heaven and desires may you obtain."And from the Brihadaranyaka Upanishad, "Whatever wrong has been done by him, his son frees him from it all... By his son, a father stands firm in this world."Personally for me, I think the film was a catalyst in my decision to return to India, specifically back to Kerala. Another Indian friend (I think he was a Telugu) who saw it with me in San Francisco said, “I'm so tempted to chuck it all and go live in a Kerala village”.Apart from the overwhelming sense of loss, the film is remarkable from two points of view: visual storytelling and innovative techniques. The muted lighting, traditional architecture, and atmospheric elements like rain mirror the characters' emotional turmoil. The film's stillness and sparse dialogue amplifies the actors' expressive performances, particularly their eyes, conveying deep emotion. The monsoon rain is a palpable presence with the sense of anticipation as we wait for its arrival, as the father waits for his son every day at the bus-stop till the last bus; heart-breakingly, we in the audience know he will never return. And then later, when the father falls in the rain, the ferryman's dilemma: if he helps him up, his boat will drift away. The ferryman's compassion prevails and he rushes to help. The film's use of weather, sound (e.g., the bubbling of water evoking anxiety), the simple everyday beauty of Kerala village life, and deliberate pacing created a meditative yet intense atmosphere. The use of color to invoke emotion (as in traditional ragas) is another technical innovation. With ‘Piravi', Shaji N Karun joined the select group of great masters of film: film as witness, sakshi, film as literature. Malayalam once upon a time used to produce such films. Today it is only mindless violence, politics, and grotesque humor: the films have no soul, although they are technically quite good. With Shaji's passing, and earlier with his mentor Aravindan's untimely death, an era is coming to an end.976 words, Apr 29, 2025 This is a public episode. As we enter a new series this week, we're going to consider what it means to slow down a bit, to Godspeed. In our zeal for the Kingdom, we often run ahead of the gentle pace of Jesus, or else, we resign to sit the bench and pout. But life with Jesus is a lot like taking a walk with a child. It's taking the scenic route, with a lot of maddening side quests to consider the lilies. When I was first beginning in full time ministry, I found myself partnered with a very charismatic and thoughtful pastor who was in charge of our young adults' ministry. He was thirty, so I of course supposed that he was in the very prime of his wisdom: he was experienced and educated but still knew all the cool music. Youthful naiveté aside, it truly was a great gift for me to have access to him and I took advantage of every opportunity to annoy him with all the robust curiosity and angst of my 24-year-old self. If you think I'm an idealist now, you should have met that kid. I was constantly feeling frustrated by the immense gap between the vision I was convinced the Bible had for gospel-centered church life and the realities of parish ministry in the suburban south. Probably the greatest gift Robbyn gave me was to insist on a distinction that I still live by today. He told me I had to figure out how to lower my expectations while maintaining and even increasing my longings. This, he knew, would do three things: lowering expectations would keep me from discouragement; increased longing would keep me hopeful for the future, and the internal tension of that widening gap would keep me on my knees. - jsP.S. This Sunday, Aida from Take Heart will be with us. She will give a brief update during the worship service but will also be sharing about their ministry to persecuted Christians during the Sunday School hour in the Youth Room. Everyone is invited!

Even though we didn't plan this episode to link up so well with the last one (see Ep 88: Liminal Running (Part I): Breaking Frames), it just does. A continued bending of the tariffs impact on Atreyu & Michael's livelihood with one of Steve's major philosophical positions, soul-style. We really catch a groove here & are interested in your feedback, if you've got any. Thanks for listening, we truly appreciate our listeners. Godspeed, y'all, godspeed.

In today's episode, Justin welcomes back a familiar voice for a conversation that calls us to slow down, refocus, and walk in step with Jesus. Adam joins him to explore what it means to facilitate clarity—not just for ourselves, but for those we lead and serve. Adam shares how his journey led him to step off the high-speed highway of constant movement and instead move at Godspeed—a pace that aligns with the rhythm of Jesus. Adam shares how he learned to slow down—not to stop moving, but to move with God. But moving at God's pace doesn't mean avoiding challenges. It means being willing to step into the darkness, knowing that's where breakthrough happens. His program teaches others how to take action, work through resistance, and lock arms with God in the process. This episode is a reminder that while methods may change, principles don't. Obedience isn't passive—it's practical. When we're willing to pivot, to pour back into Jesus, and to trust where He leads, we step into a flow that's established by Him. Clarity doesn't come from standing still—it comes from moving with God. Connect with Adam: https://www.adamkasix.com/ This podcast is brought to you by The CL Thomas Fellowship non-profit.
