In this inspiring weekend episode of the Raising Godly Girls Podcast, host Patti Garibay, American Heritage Girls Founder & Executive Director Emeritus, sits down with Kim and Katie Miller of Sight & Sound Theatres, a mother-daughter duo living out a vibrant legacy of multigenerational ministry. From backstage beginnings to center stage moments, their story is a testimony to the power of faithful families saying “yes” to God—again and again. Kim, daughter of Sight & Sound's founders and now Ministry Coordinator, shares how that vision took shape in the early years and what it's meant to pass the torch to the next generation. Katie, her daughter and Director of Brand Development, offers her own reflections on growing up surrounded by purpose and how she personally embraced her role in the ministry legacy. Together, they unpack the beauty and complexity of serving as a family—what it means to disciple intentionally, live faithfully in both public and private moments, and nurture a daughter's identity in Christ while inviting her into the bigger story God is writing. Kamber shares research insights and her personal journey that sparked her focus on closing workforce gaps and fostering cross-generational collaboration. To bridge differences, Kamber emphasizes clear communication, setting expectations, and empathy. Kamber recommends building trust and supporting internal growth pathways to engage and retain younger talent. KEY TAKEAWAYS [01:42] Kamber shares her early dream of becoming a broadcast journalist before shifting paths. [03:32] Kamber's first job in corporate insurance proves to be a poor fit and she doesn't stay long. [04:24] Many of Kamber's friends also leave their jobs after 18 months or less—why? [05:41] Common narratives of starting work after college and climbing the corporate ladder. [06:33] Lack of clear expectations and poor communication emerge as key reasons for early exits. [07:16] Despite good salary and benefits, Kamber leaves because of poor mental, physical and emotional health. [08:03] Taking a pay cut at a nonprofit which offers flexibility, Kamber develops her business on the side. [09:30] Companies often focus heavily on recruitment while neglecting retention and development. [13:48] Check which generational research to trust. [14:39] The issues of skills gaps as skills not being transferred sufficiently from experienced workers. [15:14] A feature of modern work is Gen Zs' interest in side hustles and the Creator Economy. [17:31] The current lack of trust in the establishment and younger employees' desire for fulfilling work. [18:24] Job satisfaction and career growth outweigh stability and recruiters become more aggressive. [19:36] How can organizations cultivate opportunities to entice younger employees to stay? [40:03] Generation Z's ideas of professional dress vary widely, so clarity is essential. [41:10] Kamber suggests sharing dress codes during hiring to avoid judgments and misunderstandings. [44:10] IMMEDIATE ACTION TIP: “To improve how you lead a multi-generational team, build trust, set clear expectations, and ask your team their top communication style.” RESOURCES Kamber Parker Bowden on LinkedIn Generational Performance Solutions website QUOTES “So many companies put so much effort into the recruiting and not as much on the growth, the development, the retention, the activation of talent.” “We rarely talk to any young professionals that either don't have a side hustle or don't have that interest.” “Trust is broken or never even begun. When there is a lack of clear expectations, when there is a misunderstanding, that typically leads to some type of disconnect. How you bridge that is truly through understanding how people communicate.” “If somebody is not fulfilled, even if they're getting paid what they want to get paid, but they're not fulfilled in other ways and there aren't growth opportunities, they will leave.” “We have to be what I like to call ‘generationally curious' and I think that's a true leadership skillset.” “And I always ask [leaders] ‘what happens if you don't?' Things are not changing, they've already changed. And so are you going to be ahead of the curve? Are you going to be ahead of your peers or are you going to kind of sit back and see what happens and then risk being farther behind in 10 years? And usually that snaps them into attention.”

Multigenerational staff means that some younger staff may still live at home, not be used to doing laundry, or that their summer at camp may be their first job. At the same time, the older staff probably have car payments, or a mortgage or is used to going to bed at an earlier time than 18-year-olds. Additionally, there is a physical layer to an older generation staff where they may not be able to crawl on the ground, or have other limitations. In Ruby's experience, she asked herself during any game “can rock paper scissors resolve this” and in most cases, the answer is yes and most people at any age can play rock paper scissors, so it is a great alternative to something like crawling under someone's legs in freeze tag. As we wrap our season, we hope all you leaders are ready for what summer brings us. We all know camp will be different this summer, but camp is still at heart, summer camp leaders. What happens when the preventative surgery you chose to avoid cancer reveals you already have it? In this episode of "Every Soul Has a Story," Dara Levan welcomes author Gila Pfeffer, whose memoir "Nearly Departed" chronicles her journey through losing both parents to cancer at a young age and her own battle with breast cancer. With refreshing candor and signature wit, Gila shares how her Orthodox Jewish identity shaped her experiences and how becoming a mother to four children galvanized her commitment to preventative healthcare - ultimately saving her life when a preventative mastectomy revealed aggressive cancer. Weaving together themes of resilience, authentic storytelling, and finding humor in life's darkest moments, Gila reflects on the profound significance of reaching age 50 - making her the first woman in four generations of her family to achieve this milestone. Her powerful metaphor of a broken mug still worth saving resonates deeply as she discusses her advocacy work and how sharing her story has inspired countless women to prioritize breast health. Like the cracked vessel on her book cover - weathered yet still holding precious contents - Gila's narrative embodies the beauty of imperfect survival. Gila Pfeffer is a Jewish American humor writer whose memoir "Nearly Departed" chronicles her journey through loss, cancer, and survival with unflinching candor and unexpected hilarity. A fifteen-year breast cancer previvor and survivor, Gila's "Feel It on the First" campaign has directly led to earlier diagnoses for countless women through its tongue-in-cheek reminders about breast health. In this episode of Transform Your Workplace, host Brandon Laws sits down with Nikki Innocent, a leadership coach and DEI consultant, to explore the human side of workplace culture. Nikki shares a pivotal moment from her corporate career that ultimately led her to question workplace norms and advocate for more transparent, human-centered leadership. From addressing workplace toxicity to embracing multigenerational collaboration, Nikki challenges leaders to rethink how they create spaces where employees feel seen, valued, and heard. Listen in and discover how to break outdated workplace molds and foster a culture where authenticity and collaboration thrive. TAKEAWAYS When employees leave without acknowledgment, it creates confusion, mistrust, and a lack of psychological safety in the workplace. Toxic workplaces are often the result of outdated systems, not just individual bad leaders. Viewing workplace dynamics as heroes vs. villains oversimplifies human behavior and limits opportunities for growth and collaboration. Encouraging open conversations about challenges and discomfort leads to stronger teams and a healthier work environment. Modern leadership is shifting toward transparency, inclusion, and belonging—values that professionals across all generations seek. Acknowledging difficulties and emotions at work isn't a weakness; it's a sign of strength that fosters problem-solving and resilience. Since learning happens in every aspect of life, not just through formal education, workplaces should embrace continuous growth and adaptation. Multigenerational workplaces thrive when collaboration is prioritized over competition, creating space for diverse perspectives and innovation. A QUICK GLIMPSE INTO OUR PODCAST
