This week, we're discussing the controversial CANCEL CULTURE in regards to celebrity perpetrators of sexual assault and the psychology behind predators- can they change and be safely reintegrated back into society? We talk about actors such as James Franco, Kevin Spacey, and Armie Hammer- what they were accused of, how they responded to such claims, and if we think they should be allowed to return to their careers (and if so, under what conditions). Do these people, or any sexual predators, deserve a second chance? Can they be redeemed through rehabilitation? What does it mean if we, as a society, consider their humanity despite the things they've done? Does it take away from the pain of their victims, or can it help break the cycle of abuse? As usual, we ask more questions than we answer but we hope this episode makes you think. We also talk about how many female celebrities have been cancelled for much less, if celebrities deserve to have their lives publicly discussed and analyzed, and the age-old question- are these people sorry for what they did, or simply sorry they got caught?Thank you so much for listening, and please give us a rating/ review if you have the time; it really helps. Also give us a follow on our IG, @girltalkinhellpodcast, where we post updates and silly little things Madison makes. Welcome back to the wh*rehouse! Today we're talking about victim blaming- what it is, how it affects you, and how to address it in your own life. We get real talking about how to work around the system we live in while still being safe, and about the risk of getting too defensive against the possibility of victim blaming and how that can hurt you. Most of all, we just want you to be safe while still knowing nothing is your fault! Jenny also tries defending men for the first time in her life and immediately regrets it. Just goes to show you should never try new things. We also talk about red flags- how to notice small ways that people, especially in the dating world, will show you that they might have a tendency to victim blame. Madison shares some things she's seen on the apps that should probably make you run in the opposite direction. Pleeeeease be sure to rate and review, as we are a fresh baby podcast and it helps so much! Also, share with your friends! Girl Talk really is in hell this week, ladies. As promised, we're talking about Roe v. Wade being overturned, the casual loss of our bodily autonomy, our fears for POC, the queer community, and the future of this country; all of that good stuff. We talk about how we handled our own emotions following the decision, why it's okay to think about you right now, and what you can do for others with uteruses and for your own mental health. Jenny shares the story of Joe Biden checking her out, and Madison talks about her crime with an adult diaper and equates it to the French Revolution. Finally, we talk about politics, and it was so emotionally draining we both took long naps after we finished recording. This episode is not a rant, nor is it a lecture. It is not an incredibly emotional conversation despite how devastated and angry we both are about this decision (fuck you scotus). We've both had time to process and we cope through making light of situations that are incredibly heavy. Hopefully listening in can allow you to do the same and consider your feelings and happiness as much as you carry the weight of the world and this horrifying decision on your shoulders. You are not alone. And you are allowed to feel joy and laugh right now. It won't take away from how important fighting this is.Resources, updates, and more can be found on our Instagram, @girltalkinhellpodcast. This week we're taking a trip through the Art Institute of Chicago, looking at pieces that depict women being victimized, sexualized, or assaulted in some way, from the Renaissance to modern day. We analyze the works through our unique perspectives as a writer and a visual artist and as women who have experienced assault, recognizing our triggers but always bringing the laughs. Plus, Madison makes a confession.Following along with visuals is highly recommended, and below are the pieces we discuss in order. They are also posted on our Instagram, @girltalkinhellpodcast. BTW, please follow us there for updates and don't forget to rate and review the show wherever you're listening, and tell your friends!P.S. This episode was recorded back in spring, long before the Roe v. Wade decision came to our awareness. We are deeply angered and devastated by this news and do plan on discussing it at a later date when we've had more time to process. We stand with all people with uteruses who are going to be impacted by this horrifying decision. This week we're talking about Jenny's favorite pastime- revenge, primarily on perpetrators of sexual assault, but a little bit on exes, too. We get into the ethics of revenge, tell stories of revenge in mythology and modern day, and delve into our own ideas of the perfect revenge (plus things we've actually acted on). We also open up about what it would mean for us to balance the scales with those who hurt us, and how to determine what's worth doing. Plus, we ask the million-dollar question- is living well really the best revenge? Before that, we talk about what it's like to work at a sports bar and the very creative way Madison swerved a guy that hit on her. Jenny tells the story of her night in Chicago's famous Viagra Triangle as a committed lady with great boobs.Obviously, trigger warnings are assumed in all our episodes, but this one might need an extra one. If dark humor is your favorite coping mechanism, though, this is for you.Don't forget to rate and review and turn on notifications so you never miss an episode! This week we're talking about what literally everyone is talking about- the Depp v. Heard Trial trial, and mainly, the world's reaction. We discuss how the internet has viciously attacked Amber Heard in a way no man accused of abuse has ever experienced, how Johnny Depp's leaked violent texts haven't been talked about, and what we think this case means for both male and female victims of abuse. Follow us on Instagram @girltalkinhellpodcast for weekly updates and don't forget to subscribe and rate this episode if you enjoy. @jennyhawkins_@2damnfunky
Ring ring, we're back bitches! Today we are talking about the inevitable that follows sexual assault... talking about it! Jenny and Madison discuss who they told, when, and why (most importantly, you do what is best for you). Madison talks about telling her friends in high school and their struggle to empathize with her then, and Jenny talks about what sharing her experiences with her boyfriend has done for the health of her relationship. First, though, we catch up on Jenny's cat's weight loss journey and analyze her lack of a tail, because that is equally important. Follow us on insta @girltalkinhellpodcast for updates and thanks for tuning in!
Welcome back! Today Madison and Jenny are discussing coping mechanisms- from binge drinking to taking a nice hot bath to the effed humor you'll hear today. Jenny also impulsively shares a crazy story that you won't want to miss. They ask questions like, what qualifies as a positive versus negative coping mechanism? Is there any such thing as "unhealthy" coping mechanisms when you're really struggling to simply survive? But first, they debate whether or not Jenny is a Disney adult and Madison shares her corgi's potential career paths (there are so many options). Sexual assault has affected all of us- whether we know it or not. In the first episode of Girl Talk in Hell, Jenny and Madison introduce themselves and share their stories of their first experiences with assault, where they're at now, and where to go from here. Jenny gets into her post-trauma anger (imagine a blonde girl in cowboy boots screaming at a bouncer) and Madison shares her opinion on comparison and her experience with imposter syndrome. With open, judgment-free conversation and laughter (this episode is the tip of the iceberg for the dark humor on this show), they work on coming to terms with their pain and finding new ways to feel happy and safe in their worlds- hopefully helping you to feel happier and safer in yours.
