A new Pub Podcast where Matt and Owen chat about some of our favourite spots for a pint. Pull up a stool and a pint and help us crawl our way through any and all pubs we come across in our travels!
Oho, look what the ghosts dragged in! Pardon our little hiatus the last while - we were busy changing a few kegs and polishing off the bar ahead of pubs reopening proper! In this very special episode we are pleased to be in the company of Mr Jimmy Kavanagh and Robbie Doyle Esq. as we navigate all that Smithfield has to offer! We set records on the Dance-Dance Revolution machine in Token, followed by a few tasty pints and blues in Frank Ryan's just around the corner. So, what's the real story behind Tetris? Should you interrupt a couple on their supposed first date? And what do you do when you're on a night out in New York with only your Age Card handy for ID? Grab your bag of arcade tokens and hit play to hear it all!
Next stop: Westmoreland. An chéad stad eile: Westmoreland. Finally, a pub that Owen and Matt have never been to before - and in such good company! This week we dive into one of the dive-iest spots in Dublin, nestled conspicuously between a wider-than-longer bridge and a wax museum, Pillar Bar. What wonders behold us? Tune in to hear the lads and the effervescent Ping chat Blue Lagoons, why Matt hates the idea of teaching kids, the joys of the Hong Kong metro, and come to the bottom of deciphering Alan Cumming's nationality.
The Costa del Smithfield! If Narnia had a bar, this would be it. Located just off the dirty Streets of Dublin City Centre, The Hacienda is one of Dublin's best kept, yet best known secrets. A Spanish villa in the middle of D7, who would have thunk it? This week, we take the dive into the deep end and enjoy a few pints of Guinn with the illustrious Grace Morgan, where we unravel what makes this spot so popular, chat broken bones, why not to do sports, and whether it's weird to sleep on one, two, or no pillows.
And On The Third Day... It's finally our double digits and we got our thinking caps on - if we had the chance to visit a pub that is no longer with us, where would we go? It didn't take us long to settle on wanting to spend one last night in a fan favourite of ours, The Long Stone. Tune in to relive a night in one of D2's most loved bars with the gracious company of the Chat Shit! gals, Lisa Nally and Allie Whelan. We talk about our favourite rooms and memories in the Long Stone, tips for starting a podcast, and your ideal 3-stop pub crawl.
2 Cocktails 2 Many! Deciding to take a break from pints, this week we stumbled into Fade Street Social with Jen Aust for a cheeky cocktail with, famed for its rooftop smoking area, 2-for-1 Tuesdays, and terrifying staircase up to it. Grab your nearest shaker tin and some ice as we shake up a few fun tales about the Edinburgh Fringe, missing your friends, and how to best deal with meeting your old school-teachers on a night out!
Tip for life: don't work at the Disney store. This week we've found ourselves in the heart of Phibsborough at one of the most sublime spots Dublin has to offer - The Back Page. One of Rían Hamill's favourite pubs to soak up some G&Ts, water polo, and sweet pizza, dive into The Back Page with us and get out of the rain for a quick pint. Ever played Settlers of Catan, or wondered which pub you think has the best smoking area? We talk about it all this week!
Let's All Go To The Music Hall! After a few technical difficulties last week learning how to use the Magic Door properly, we're back! Join us this week as we trek our way to Matt's hometown for a few beverages in one of Belfast's most well-loved spots, The Empire Music Hall - with Joe Toner in tow no less! Lot's to talk about this week - did you know there are pre and post-lockdown Guinness cans, or ever wondered why some pubs stick money up on the walls? Pour yourself a pint and find out in this week's episode!
Are you missing the pub? We are too. So we thought to ourselves "we may as well just go to one so". So that's what we did - we just went to a pub. While we were very excited to go, we DID remember that we still have the last Dublin City Brewing Co. can left to try out, so we thought to ourselves to pull a scaldy one and try it...in a...pub. Yes, really - we've all been there. You really couldn't make it up. So pull yourself a pint, pull up a stool to the table, and let us take you back to the pub that you miss so much. Thanks and credit to I Miss My Bar by Lagom + Tandem for giving us the idea and making this possible!
Join Matt and Owen this week as we talk about one of our most beloved pinting spots, hidden in plain sight in Dublin city centre - The Lord Edward. What makes is so special? How long has it been there? And who even WAS Lord Edward? We also discuss the question: would you rather only visit one pub for the rest of your life, or never be able to visit the same pub twice? A question for the ages that we attempt to answer in the best way possible - through the power of The Magic Door. Walk through and see where it takes you - you might even bump into us!
You've made it to Episode 4! Keep her lit, you're doing great! Join Owen and Matt this week for your usual fill of all things usually and often pub related. This week we discuss the well known but less trodden International Bar, and one of the last places we had a drink in during the before times - O'Neill's of Pearse Street. Matt and Owen also try out something different this time around - our first beer tasting! Listen in to hear our review of Dublin City Brewing Company's Renegade Red Ale, a welcome change of pace to the end of Dry January! Shout-out this week as well to Dublin Bricks and O'Donoghue's this week on 119.5 Seconds... tune in to find out more info!
Episode Three, that's us now! This week Matt discusses one of his favourite, if not one of the smaller sized pubs of Dublin, with a fun tale to tell on how The Confession Box got its name. Want to know the best way to pour a can of Guinness over lockdown? We've got you covered - Owen reveals all about his short but educational employment in the Guinness Storehouse and the famous Gravity Bar, and all the hot tips and tricks he picked up along the way!
Episode 2: Electric Boogaloo! This week we look at two pubs two hours apart from one another, but nevertheless delightful spots. Fancy a roaring fire and trad session in The Dirty Onion? Ever asked yourself how far you'd go for a pint and hike it up to The Blue Light? Join us both as we talk about our new 119.5 second news segment, and take you on the next stop of the pub crawl!
We made it, mom! Have you been missing the pub and the pals as much as we have? Well say no more, tune into the Just For One podcast and tune out the despair as we talk through some of our favourite haunts! Ever wondered how old The Shakespeare Pub is, or did you know that The Stag's Head used to have a sister bar? Listen in to find out.
