    In this episode, Maithreyi and Deven, the Co-Founders of ethical shopping platform People Heart Planet, sit down with Dr. Susan Maiava to discuss what she learned about international development while working in Samoa, her definition of ethical trade and what needs to shift in our culture and policies to move toward a more fair trade economic system.Dr. Susan Maiava is an accomplished academic and practitioner in the field of international development. Early in her career, she worked with New Zealand's largest volunteer agency (Volunteer Service Abroad) in Samoa. She went on to become a Foundation Lecturer at the National University of Samoa and later taught at the University of the South Pacific. She organised and hosted the Fairfield Conferences at Auckland University of Technology in 2017 and 2019 with a focus on "social justice through ethical trade." She served two terms on the International Board of the Leprosy Mission and now serves on the Board of Hagar NZ, which works with survivors of modern slavery.
