Recent years have seen calls for major changes in human rights due diligence and reporting gathering momentum. This tidal wave of governments making legislation that holds businesses legally accountable isn’t stopping any time soon. In addition, NGOs, investors and consumers are demanding more than just the bare minimum when it comes to business and human rights practices. However, with a whole suite of expectations and standards bombarding corporates, the basic question of “what do stakeholders actually want?” is getting lost. This disconnect could be disastrous for business, not only legally, but reputationally. What do investors, consumers, NGOs and government want from business? How have expectations of these groups changed and how are they set to differ as we head into a new decade? What are the incentives for business to go beyond mere compliance? Discussing these questions are: Julie Vallat, vice president, human rights, L'Oréal Adam Schafer, director, supply chain traceability, Intel Mary Francis, senior manager, worker rights strategy, VF Corporation Hosted by Ian Welsh, Innovation Forum Join Innovation Forum in London in March and New York in May to debate the future of ethical trade and human rights.

In this last roundtable for the year, we look at some great track and trace success stories and explore some blockchain early successes that are already appearing in our community. Increasingly, pharmaceutical companies are putting blockchain to the test in order to track and trace the drugs they manufacture and ship. In fact, according to USA's Healthcare Weekly, blockchain is “getting massive attention” in health care, with 40% of industry executives reporting that it is in their top five priorities. We'll table how one company is working to achieve pharmaceutical supply chain precision utilising a blockchain startup solution for tracking and managing of prescription medication through the supply chain while preventing misuse. Other countries are seeing some success. Ugandan government is tracing counterfeit drugs within the country. The blockchain-based platform enables the recording of prescription medication, thus identifying counterfeit drugs and preventing their distribution in the pharmaceutical supply chain. United Arab Emirates' Ministry of Health and Prevention also launched a blockchain system for recording and sharing health care data. Where is Australia making progress on this front? When: 7.30-9.30am Thursday 14 November Where: Michael Page: Level 19, 600 Bourke St, Melbourne Cost: Free for ASCI Members and their guests | $50 for non members RSVP: events@asci.org.au Following on from the series of Sustainable & Ethical Procurement Round tables held around the country for ASCI members in June 2019, this two hour briefing drills down deeply into one of the common challenges which was identified across the supply chain community. Sustainability and ethical trade are increasingly business critical topics for any board room and are now directly impacting consumer buying behaviour. Today consumers are encouraging brands to be more vocal about sharing information and being transparent. Implementing sustainability and ethical trade best practice requires collaboration across the supply chain and implementation of technology. To begin, let's first look at what we can improve. There are an extraordinary amount of packaging inefficiencies that exist throughout the supply chain. And yet, consistency in packaging can result in meeting sustainable and ethical standards and enable cost saving optimisation of pallets, containers and warehouse space. To meet your ethical standards you need to build a trusted supplier and factory network. Ethical Trade allows retailers to record factory audit results and manage the resolution of corrective action plans (CAP's). Companies need a single database to record all the audit information, factory profiles, certification, audit reports, next audit dates, risk rating all in one place, preferably shared with their suppliers and factories. Have we ticked all the boxes? By end of this session, James Hargraves from Adjuno will ensure you have ticked all the boxes to understand how to implement efficient, ethical and sustainable solutions. This is a must-attend event to help you understand how technology can optimise, improve and drive greater compliance with packaging, sustainability and ethical trade throughout the supply chain.
