Jsme země recidivistů? Česká republika patří k zemím s nejvyšším počtem vězňů v EU – a zároveň k těm s největší mírou recidivy. KapitolyI. In a Better Place? The mystifying words we use to describe death — and how they can fail the grieving.Lorna Vyse missed a moment — a child in grief, and she didn't see it. She chided herself for not being clued in, and that regret stayed with her. Add to that a chance encounter and a promise to a dying woman, and Lorna's second life purpose was born. Now an author, grief trainer and speaker, Lorna is on a mission to help us stop sugar-coating death. From “passed” to “gone to sleep” to “in a better place,” the euphemisms we use to avoid talking about death don't help — especially not for children. This is a conversation about missed chances, keeping your word, and the healing power of speaking plainly when it matters most. He has authored several books including: Are You Going to a Better Place?, Daniel's Gap Paul's Mystery, Tribulation to Triumph: The Olivet Discourse, Globalism: The Great World Consumption and Artificial Intelligence: Transhumanism & the De-Evolution of Democracy. Newsmax reported yesterday that President Trump abruptly left the G7 meeting in Canada last week due to Iran telling the U.S. that it was going to activate its terrorist proxies on U.S. soil. Then on Saturday evening the U.S. military, in stealth fashion, flew B-2 bombers in order to strike 3 Iranian nuclear facilities. President Trump followed up by communicating that Iran should surrender unconditionally. In response, Iran not only fired upon Israel but also upon U.S. interests in Qatar. Afterward, a cease-fire was announced, only to have Israel and Iran fire upon each other again. Back on the homefront, there was a vote in Congress to take up articles of impeachment against President Trump. A strong bipartisan effort to table these articles was held this morning. 128 Democrats joined Republicans to kill the effort. So, as our title asks, is the cease-fire on or off? Are the Iranian sleeper cells we've been hearing about a real threat? Will Iran close off the Strait of Hormuz? Was Iran able to successfully have at least some of the enriched uranium removed prior to the U.S. bunker-buster bomb attack?

You have already succeeded if you're out there representing truth or justice or compassion or fairness or love. You already have your victory because you are changing the world; you are changing the status quo; you are changing the chemistry of things. And changes will spread from you, will be easier to happen again in others because of you because, believe it or not you with your activism are the center of the world.”  CTA: Maybe like me you are coming to realize that activist work is not a job, but a calling to work together. Welcome to Episode 274 of Lucretius Today. This is a podcast dedicated to the poet Lucretius, who wrote "On The Nature of Things," the most complete presentation of Epicurean philosophy left to us from the ancient world. Each week we walk you through the Epicurean texts, and we discuss how Epicurean philosophy can apply to you today. If you find the Epicurean worldview attractive, we invite you to join us in the study of Epicurus at EpicureanFriends.com, where we discuss this and all of our podcast episodes. This week we continue our series covering Cicero's "Tusculun Disputations" from an Epicurean viewpoint. This series addresses five of the greatest questions in philosophy, with Cicero speaking for the majority and Epicurus the main opponent: 1. Is Death An Evil? (Cicero says no and Epicurus says no, but for very different reasons)2. Is Pain An Evil? (Cicero says no, Epicurus says yes)3. Does the Wise Man Experience Grief and Fear? (Cicero says no, Epicurus says yes)4. Does the Wise Man Experience Joy and Desire? (Cicero says no, Epicurus says yes)5. Is Virtue Sufficient For A Happy Life? (Cicero says yes, Epicurus says no) As we found in Cicero's "On Ends" and "On The Nature of the Gods," Cicero treated Epicurean Philosophy as a major contender in the battle between the philosophies, and in discussing this conflict and explaining Epicurus' answers to these questions, we will deepen our understanding of Epicurus and how he compares to the other major schools. These week we continue our discussion in the section "Is Death An Evil," and we will pick up in Section XVII. Conversations with Musicians, with Leah Roseman

Kala Ramnath is a world-renowned Indian violinist who performs in both the Hindustani classical tradition, and in collaborations that incorporate many styles with Ray Manzarek of The Doors, Bela Fleck and Edgar Meyer, Hilary Hahn, Kronos Quartet with Reena Esmail and veena player Jayanthi Kumaresh, and  leading orchestras such as my own National Arts Centre, to name but a few. You'll hear about her childhood, and how she became a disciple of the legendary vocalist Pandit Jasraj, leading her to revolutionize her approach to Hindustani violin technique. As a teacher she has put together an incredible resource with an extensive video library that she's created of Indian music, Indianclassicalmusic.com  When I recorded this interview with Kala, she had just the day before returned from the celebration of life for the legendary tabla master Zakir Hussain, who died this past December, and was one of the most important musicians in both Indian music and in bringing a global audience to Indian music. He had moved to San Francisco in the 1960s and was involved in too many projects to begin to list; in 2024 he was the first musician from India to receive 3 Grammys at one ceremony, including his collaboration with Bela Fleck and Edgar Meyer. Zakir Hussain was an incredibly important mentor of Kala, and you'll hear in her words about what his guidance and collaborations meant to her. Kala talked to me about some of her many cross-genre collaborations, including her fantastic albums with tabla master Bikram Ghosh  and her inventive trio with George Brooks and Gwyneth Wentink and you'll hear some of that music as well (albums linked below).  Like all my episodes, you can watch this on my YouTube channel or listen to the podcast on all the podcast platforms, and I've also linked the transcript : YouTube and TranscriptKala Ramnath Website Indianclassicalmusic.com Raag Ahir Bhairav  Paperboats album Elements trio albumOther episodes I've linked directly to this one, which I think may interest you: Karnatic violinist Suhadra VijaykumarSitar and tabla player Mohamed Assani Bansuri player Milind DateSarod player Avi KishnaIt's a joy to bring these inspiring episodes to you every week, and I do all the many jobs of research, production and publicity.  Please buy me a coffee? I could have featured one of those quotes. But I feel it's time to get real because during these dark days it's important to remind ourselves why we show up in the classroom, or the library, or at our desks. Each time we put pen to paper or walk into a classroom or give a school presentation, we're striving to make the world a better place. Our hope is that our words and ideas bring joy, wonder, and acceptance to each reader that happens upon our books or each student that steps into our classrooms. Some days the job feels overwhelming, and we may feel defeated before we step foot inside the door or sit down at the desk, but Amanda shows us how to embrace perseverance to help others. And as Amanda says during this episode, if she can do it, so can we. He has authored several books including: Are You Going to a Better Place and Artificial Intelligence: Transhumanism. As you'll discover on this broadcast, the development and proliferation of Artificial Intelligence (AI) is moving at breakneck speed. Now President Trump has announced the Stargate Initiative while China has released the AI app called DeepSeek. DeepSeek has been downloaded by millions despite concerns that information it collects is going back to China. President Trump's Stargate Initiative is said to be the largest AI infrastructure project in history costing 500 billion dollars. Larry Ellison, co-founder and executive chairman of Oracle, has indicated that the 20 massive data banks that will be part of the project will deal with some positive outcomes including curing cancer and other diseases. What's of concern is all of the data that will be put into the system. Dr. Schmidt noted that Ellison wants to get everyone's medical or financial information and let computers do what doctors and economists used to do. Is this setting the stage for the infrastructure that the Antichrist will use during the tribulation period? Should we be concerned that while there will be some positive outcomes from this that President Trump may not completely understand where all this is headed? The first nine cantos then give us the ways in which to overcome the various attachments that we have: Vīta rāga bhaya Krodha, the attachment to material energy finished by the time you finish nine cantos. No thank you. No más. I'm not interested anymore. I got a better place to go. And then that idea that the fear that one has of a personal relationship with God is gone, and it awakens in one's heart this idea. It's like, oh yeah, I want a person. I already have a personal relationship, but I want to pursue it. That's the impetus of the devotee to jump up in the morning and say, here we go again. Kṛṣṇa, I'm here. And then Krodha, this frustration, results from not having an object of meditation. And therefore, you go on YouTube and everyone's got a different opinion right on everything: cooking, health, philosophy, law, politics. There's 5 million different opinions, and if you just listen to them all, then you just go around bewildered. You have to come to this point: siddhānta baliyā citte nā kara alasa ihā ha-ite kṛṣṇe lāge sudṛḍha mānasa (Cc Ādi 2.117). You have to hear Bhāgavatam and hear how it comes from the point of view of advaya jñāna tattva. But then, bringing your attention to, okay, there's one place, and it's 'ārādhyo bhagavān.' There's a way that, if you just focus your attention on Kṛṣṇa, then you get everything. And there's something amazing in it for you. And that's the impetus of bhakti, is the eternal nature of the soul to love Kṛṣṇa.
