With no experience in business, no experience running a bar, and no experience brewing beer on a larger scale, Chris and his wife sold off what they could and got to work opening the New Smyrna Beach Brewing Company. After finishing a half marathon, avid runner Nick Zivolich wondered if he could produce an endurance race that would be just as big and professional as the corporate races without the exorbitant entry fees. His races would be accessible to all levels of athletes. At the time, this former high school track competitor wasn’t concerned with building a business so much as playing big with a hobby he’d had for years. So he followed his gut on how to best reach his audience, killing just about every rule in the book. It worked out pretty DAMN well and The Best Damn Race had runners scrambling for tickets on Day 1. The Hot Sardines (EP.01)

Elizabeth Bougerol and Evan Palazzo met when they both answered a Craigslist advertisement in 2007 for an open jam session and bonded over their love for such jazz greats as Fats Waller, Louis Armstrong, and Billie Holiday. In 2014, their self-titled debut album, The Hot Sardines, was named by iTunes as one of the best jazz albums of the year. Since then, the band has performed at renowned music festivals in Montreal and Newport. They have performed with an 80-piece orchestra at the Boston Pops, headlined on the Turner Classic Movie Cruise, and sold out more than 25 shows at the iconic Joe's Pub at the public theater in New York City. Their 2016 album, French Fries and Champagne, featured a duet with Tony Award-winning actor, Alan Cumming. Jazz may be their passion, but it's also their business. For Evan and Elizabeth, going to work almost always means leaving their families to board an airplane for an extended trip. Not only do they have to put on a great performance each and every time they go on stage, they're also responsible for employees, promotion, logistics, profit, and loss. In this conversation, we learn how the band jumps from playing small jazz gigs in New York to touring performing art centers around the world, and what you can learn from an airline pilot about being a good band leader. We pick up the conversation backstage at The Lyric Theater in Stuart, Florida. We’re just getting started with this podcast, so your support is super important. Introduction to Main Street Hustle (EP.00)

Most of what I see on the internet about small business is garbage. An Instagram account of inspiring quotes is not a business.  Maxing out your credit card to buy Facebook ads for your webinar series on how to get rich doing webinars is only going to get you in debt.   Let me tell you something, the only people making money on that get rich quick in real estate courses are the people selling you the course.  And if you think you can get rich that quickly, I’ve got a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you. My name is Glen Sanders, and I’m a small business owner, I come from a family of small business owners. My father owned an office supply company in New Jersey and sold real estate in Florida.  My mother owned toy stores in Miami and a business in Texas making custom printed dominos. The father figure in my life was an accountant, raced porches, owned restaurants, a boat dealership and a motel.  So it’s no wonder that I also became an entrepreneur. My business is fresh air flicks, and we specialize in big outdoor video projection for sporting events, outdoor movies, and marketing. It’s not a big business, but it's lean, its profitable, and it provides a lifestyle that allows me to split my time between Brooklyn new york and a beach in Florida. Main street hustle is a podcast that will introduce you to everyday people who become entrepreneurs because they saw a real opportunity and worked their ass off to make it a reality. These are entrepreneurs from around the world that know the path to success is not easy, and it's not quick, but it's totally worth it. They also define wealth as something more than just dollars in the bank.   We’re just getting started with this podcast, so your support is super important.
