Send us a textKatie and Bridget wave their arms at a baseball game as they re-watch the Disney classic: Angels in the Outfield! Come along as we meet Roger, a foster child living in a temporary home with his BFF J.P, who's also a foster child and it's SAD, GUYS. When his deadbeat dad tells him that they'll only ever be a family again if the California Angels baseball team wins the pennant, Roger prays to God for some help - and he/she listens! For some reason, that prayer gets listened to! Don't! Ask! Questions! Roger and J.P. watch as the Angels begin to win in miraculous ways and they convince the coach that it's angels, which honestly he just radically believes and it's great. This movie brings on all the tears as it asks the deep questions, such as: Why are people so willing to believe in God but not other miraculous things? Why didn't anyone punch Roger's deadbeat dad in the face multiple times throughout this movie? WILL J.P. EVER BE GIVEN THERAPY BECAUSE HE'S CRYING WAY TOO MUCH FOR MY LIKING!? All this and more in this emotionally charged Disney film! Released in 1994, it stars Danny Glover, Brenda Fricker, Tony Danza, Christopher Lloyd, Ben Johnson, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Milton Davis Jr., Adrien Brody, Matthew McConaughey, and Dermot Mulroney.

We're on our break, so enjoy this release of an episode from 2022, originally released exclusively on our Patreon! This is the true story behind the 2012 Richard Linklater movie, Bernie, starring Jack Black, Shirley McClaine, and Matthew McConaughey. It's about an assistant funeral director, Bernie Tiede, who everyone in town loves, and who befriends a rich, elderly widow named Marjorie Nugent, who nobody likes. Marjorie becomes more and more controlling and more demanding, and Bernie goes to extreme lengths to get out from under her grasp. It's described as a black comedy, of course with Jack Black at the helm, but after hearing more of the details of the case, it left people wondering: was the real Bernie Tiede the doting saint he was portrayed to be, or a conniving con man? On Episode #127 of Fear and Loathing in Cinema, a podcast that functions as both group therapy and cinematic exorcism, our scaly trio of hosts turned their collective, dragon-singed gaze toward Reign of Fire; the 2002 post-apocalyptic lizard-thon that imagined a world where dragons reemerged from the London Underground and decided that humanity had simply had enough time. This month's theme? Man Month. A celebration of films from that hallowed, oily era when masculinity was measured by shirtlessness, gravitas, and one's ability to shout at mythical creatures while swinging an axe. Enter: Christian Bale, Matthew McConaughey, and Gerard Butler; three men so hyperbolically manly in this film that you could bottle their sweat and sell it as artisanal barbecue sauce. Eligible projects with budgets over $1.5 million can receive 25 % of qualified in-state spending, plus additional uplifts for rural shoots, veteran hires, workforce development, and faith-based or family-friendly content. The program requires 60 % of shooting to occur in Texas and gradually raises the in-state crew threshold to 50 % by 2031. Funded through insurance and franchise taxes, the law also gives the Texas Film Commission authority to reject projects that portray the state negatively. From first crushes and heartbreaks, to family dynamics and identity formation, Podcrushed brings equal parts levity and gravity to every conversation, with guests like Ariana Grande, Matthew McConaughey, Jenna Ortega…and, as you’ve no doubt guessed from the title of this episode, Eddie Redmayne, the Oscar-winning actor whose Podcrushed episode we’re dropping into your feed today. Oscar-winning actor Eddie Redmayne takes a break from gracing the stage (and the soundstage) to bring his characteristic charm and kindness to the pod. He recalls early memories from growing up as the artsy one in a family full of athletes, and talks about his early days as a young theater actor in London, in awe of the bright lights and buzzy energy. On this episode we celebrate and discuss Richard Linklater's cult classic coming of age film, Dazed And Confused (1993). Plot: Austin Texas 1976, the movie highlights the rites of passage on the last day of school for the new, incoming freshmen at Robert E. Lee High School. Freshman boys are physically punished, while the girls largely face the brunt of verbal abuse and humiliation. Two main figures emerge. Incoming freshman Mitch Kramer (Wiley Wiggins) comes to a new realization in his role as a major target of senior hazing. And, amongst the seniors is Randall 'Pink' Floyd (Jason London), the school's star quarterback, who moves with grace amongst groups of greasers, nerds, stoners, and athletes alike. Dazed and Confused is a 1993 American coming-of-age comedy film written and directed by Richard Linklater. The film follows a variety of teenagers on the last day of school in Austin, Texas, in 1976. The film has no single protagonist or central conflict; rather, it follows interconnected plot threads among different social groups and characters, such as rising ninth graders undergoing hazing rituals, a football star's refusal to sign a clean living pledge for his coach, and various characters hanging out at a pool hall. The film features a large ensemble cast of actors who would later become stars, including Jason London, Ben Affleck, Milla Jovovich, Cole Hauser, Parker Posey, Adam Goldberg, Matthew McConaughey, Nicky Katt, Joey Lauren Adams, Rory Cochrane and Anthony Rapp. Fandom Podcast Network Contact Information - - Fandom Podcast Network YouTube Channel:  https://www.youtube.com/c/FandomPodcastNetwork - Master feed for all FPNet Audio Podcasts: http://fpnet.podbean.com/ - Couch Potato Theater Audio Podcast Master Feed: https://fpnet.podbean.com/category/couch-potato-theater - Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Fandompodcastnetwork - Email: fandompodcastnetwork@gmail.com - Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/fandompodcastnetwork/ - X: @fanpodnetwork / https://twitter.com/fanpodnetwork -Bluesky: @fanpodnetwork / https://bsky.app/profile/fanpodnetwork.bsky.social Host & Guest Contact Info: - Kevin Reitzel on X, Instagram, Threads, Discord & Letterboxd: @spartan_phoenix / Bluesky: @spartanphoenix - Erin Reitzel Gill on Instagram: @eringill666 - Kyle Wagner on X: @AKyleW / Instagram & Threads: @Akylefandom / @akyleW on Discord / @Ksport16: Letterboxd / Bluesky: @akylew #CouchPotatoTheater #CPT #FandomPodcastNetwork #FPNet #FPN #DazedAndConfused #DazedAndConfused1993 #DazedAndConfusedMovie #RichardLinklater #JasonLondon #BenAffleck #MatthewMcConaughey #MillaJovovich #WileyWiggins #ColeHauser #ParkerPosey #AdamGoldberg #JoeyLaurenAdams #RoryCochrane  #AnthonyRapp #NickyKatt #MarissaRibisi #1993Movies #KevinReitzel #ErinReitzel #KyleWagner

Welcome to Season 7! As we are now a quarter of the way through the 21st century, like Bill Murray in Tootsie, Paul and Corey are asking, “What happened?” This season we are looking at the trends, genres, styles, and more that make up cinema of the past 25 years. Paul really wanted to change it up this time. From the era of Matthew McConaughey leaning on the poster rom-coms, it's How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days (2003). From director Donald Petrie and an assortment of other nepo babies, this film definitely...exists.  Paul chose it with the understanding that HtLaGi10D had come into its own as a sort of reappraised cult classic. Whoever told him that was wrong. Like a New York Knickerbockers' basketball game - all PACCTS picks can't be winners. A lot to discuss.

Order my newest book Make Money Easy! https://lewishowes.com/moneyyouCheck out the full episode: greatness.lnk.to/1784"Don't half-ass it." - Matthew McConaughey's FatherPicture this: a 20-year-old college kid sitting on a top bunk bed late at night, using a headlamp to secretly write in his journal after everyone else had gone out to party. That kid was Matthew McConaughey, and what he wrote down that night would seem absolutely insane to anyone else - "win an Oscar for best acting" - except he wasn't even an actor yet. He was just a film school student who was too afraid to even admit out loud that he wanted to perform, yet somehow had the audacity to dream of Hollywood's highest honor in the privacy of his own thoughts.Years later, after actually winning that Oscar, McConaughey discovered that old journal entry and experienced one of those spine-tingling moments that makes you question everything you think you know about dreams and destiny. His reaction says it all: "Are you kidding? Get outta here!" But here's what's really profound - he never looked at those goals again after writing them down, yet somehow "knew what they were" all along. This conversation reveals the mysterious power of turning invisible dreams into physical contracts with yourself, and how his father's simple but devastating advice - "Don't half-ass it" - became the driving force behind everything that followed.Sign up for the Greatness newsletter: http://www.greatness.com/newsletter

Matthew McConaughey shares the moment his relationship with Camila gave him courage to turn down millions in romantic comedies, leading to his Oscar-winning transformation, while confessing he wrote down 10 life goals at age 21 - including winning an Oscar before he was even acting. Kobe Bryant opens up about learning fundamentals after scoring zero points an entire summer at age 11, then using psychological warfare to elevate teammates and dominate opponents. Terry Crews delivers the most vulnerable story, describing his 30-year journey from an abused child in Flint to beating up his father at age 30, only to discover revenge solved nothing. Each man discovered that true strength comes not from individual dominance, but from the courage to serve something greater than themselves - whether through committed relationships, team excellence, or breaking generational cycles.Matthew's book GreenlightsMatthew's kids book Just BecauseKobe Bryant Dear BasketballTerry's book Manhood: How to Be a Better Man-or Just Live with OneTerry's audiobook Tough: My Journey to True PowerTerry's kids book Terry's CrewIn this episode you will learn:How writing down your goals creates an invisible contract with your subconscious that works for decadesWhy the fundamentals beat natural talent when you commit to daily practice over yearsHow committed relationships give you more courage and creativity in your career, not lessThe psychology behind using work ethic as a weapon to mentally break down competitionWhy revenge fantasies destroy your soul even when you get the payback you wantedFor more information go to https://www.lewishowes.com/1784For more Greatness text PODCAST to +1 (614) 350-3960More SOG episodes we think you'll love:Matthew McConaughey – greatness.lnk.to/1422SCKobe Bryant  – greatness.lnk.to/691SCTerry Crews – greatness.lnk.to/1258SC Get more from Lewis!
