There is an article on the website of Times Higher Education (THE) 'Maths teaching seeks the formula for good graduates', which is about the report of the HE Mathematics Curriculum Summit and on the day of the funding call deadline Peter Rowlett recorded some thoughts about this.
Noel-Ann Bradshaw describes her project building on the initial success of the University of Greenwich Maths Cafe, offering maths support and mathematical thinking through puzzles and games.
On 12th January 2011 the Mathematical Sciences HE Curriculum Innovation Project convened a Mathematics HE Summit. This brought together representatives of 25 university mathematics departments, the IMA, RSS, OR Society, the Council for the Mathematical Sciences, The National HE STEM Programme, sigma and the MSOR Network to discuss some serious, high level questions about Mathematics HE. The night before the Summit, I recorded these thoughts.
Trevor Hawkes decribes his project 'The Internet Librarian and Curator for Mathematics Videos', a small-scale, proof-of-concept pilot project, taking the first steps to create an online portal giving searchable access to a selection of recommended mathematics video tutorials.
Alun Owen describes the project 'A Pilot for a Shared On-line Statistics Advisory Service'. Alun led a collaborative bid with the Birmingham City University, De Montfort University and the University of Sunderland to offer a Statistics Advisory Service targeted at final year and postgraduate students via an online learning space using Elluminate.
Episode 3. I give an update on three opportunities in November: workshops "Using IT when teaching mathematics classes" and "Embedding Graduate Skills in Your Mathematical Sciences Programme", and a funding call.
Episode 2. Edmund Chadwick describes his project 'Assessing student teams developing mathematical models applied to business and industrial mathematics', which is bringing speakers from industry to give seminars in a module with a focus on business-like team-focussed activities.
Episode 1. James Hind describes his project 'Supporting progression in mathematics education', which looks to supply two undergraduate students with a final year project each around mathematics education, while also building an outreach relationship with a local school.
